Good local mom and pop deli spot I always like coming here when it’s hot out and I don’t feel like cooking the sandwiches are huge and full of meats and toppings! Me and my husband can share a whole sandwich The prices are cheap as well skip subway and check this place out if your in the area, my favorite sandwiches are the godfather and the Ann special, also pretty cool that they have a lot of throw back soda pops I love the cream sodas jones soda and Shirley temple ones there all good! I wish they had deli salads for those days you don’t want bread but no biggie they still have a good selection of sandwiches!

Grove Grinder has the Best Sandwiches in Lemon Grove. If your in the area, or close, this is a must visit sandwich experience … an it’s an experience. The building from the outside is unique looking, as the sandwich shop was established in 1972, however the magic is in the owner Sharon(and her team) who bought Grove Grinder 16 years ago. When you enter Sharon’s sandwich shop you feel the sense of history, community pride as there are all sorts of Lemon Grove related events decorating the walls from Lemon Grove Little League Champions to Boys Scouts, antique items from old Coke Bottles to stuffed animals & dolls … with plenty of tables draped in picnic clothes. The food is awesome! All the Sandwiches made to order and the ingredients always good. The portions are plentiful. I typically get a Half Sandwich with bowl of Soup of the Day. Simply stated, this is a true entrepreneur small business owner with a vision to provide a community sandwich shop experience. Also, I know zero about Root Beer, however Sharon stocks what seems like hundreds of brands & Flavors. Enjoy!

They do a very nice veggie sandwich. Their Eggplant Parm is also great! Far better solution than corporate sandwhich shops!

Been here many times and everything I have ordered has always been good. It’s got that homemade vibe to it, tons of bottles of root beer and the hottest ginger ale I’ve ever had. I highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a bomb sandwich!

Found this place on Unilocal after having gone grocery shopping on an empty stomach. I got the Ann special, my husband got The Godfather and a friend got the all meat combo. Unless you’re a competitive eater I’d suggest getting a half. These things are HUGE! So delicious. I’m looking forward to the other half already… maybe tomorrow though, I’m stuffed.

Man these are good subs! I usually go for the godfather and have enough left over for later. They have a good variety of choices and so many types of sodas. Yummy

Super cute place, probably best for to go orders. The sandwich menu is great and the cute bottled sodas are even better! It seems like you can’t find cheerwine ANYWHERE out of the south, I was so excited to see it here! Giving it 4 stars because of the mediocre bread and the blaring soap operas. Not the best setting. Overall, yummy food!

The best place to get a sandwich and root beer! Don’t judge it by the outside, it’s so quaint and cute inside! The Veggie sandwich is my favorite but many love the Godfather. Anything you get will be good here though. Excellent toppings, you can tell it is all fresh.

Looking for a place in Lemon Grove? Look no further, surprisingly there are many places to go around town. The Grove Grinder happens to be one of those places. This is my first time here so I ordered the most common sandwich I can think of… Philly Steak. The place is small but functional, I suggest ordering to go if there aren’t any seats. We decided to eat in and it’s a no frills establishment. Walk to the counter and place your order, pay and get your receipt, have a seat and you are set. Our ordered arrived and the 12″ sandwich was shared. The bread was soft and I made sure I ordered the fixings; mushrooms, onions, pickles(on the side), carrots. I was good. I should have ordered the bread toasted and it would have been even better. I would rate this as another gems in Lemon Grove.

My Dad loved this place was his favorite and it has become mine. Always get roast beef and pastrami. Service is always great, fresh ingredients. If your looking for a great sandwich this is the place. They have the best selection of old school sodas in town.

This place is great. Having managed a deli for 4 years, I can really appreciate that they cook all of their own meat for the sandwiches(no meat«loaves» like most places use from Jennie-O, Dietz & Watson, etc), and use a good quality cheese. Having managed a deli, I also cannot understand why 1 out of 3 times your order is made wrong, but the place is good enough that I keep coming back in spite of that. The ingredients make the sandwich, and everything they use is fantastic. The bread is so fresh that if you order a whole sandwich(12″, around 8 $, a hell of a deal) you have to power it down quick. Otherwise the second half of your sandwich is getting stale by the time you eat it, because the bread is made so fresh and with no preservatives. For anyone reading this thinking that’s a bad thing, you’re high. I usually stick with their cold sandwiches when I come here, their hot sandwiches have only been so-so. The Philly steak is decent, but should just be called a steak sandwich; the pieces of meat never get broken down enough to be Philly-sized and are instead served in large strips. The meatball wasn’t very good, the meatballs and sauce tasted like they came out of a TV dinner. The Italian sausage is pretty darn good though, and if I’m in the mood for a hot sandwich that’s what I get. All in all, the place is excellent. As much as I wish they were more consistent about getting your order right, it’s a pretty good indicator of how good the food is that they can make my sandwich wrong 1⁄3 times and I still come back and give them 4⁄5 stars. I’m hooked.

Tried a couple of things on the menu. I’ll probably try another if I’m in the area. It’s an antique sub shop that’s been around for as long as I can remember and easily well before the Unilocal and teh interwebs. Most recently I’ve ordered The Godfather and before that it was a steak and cheese sandwich. If you’re expecting a proper Philly cheesesteak, then go in with tempered expectations. It’s probably closer to plain carne asada instead of thinly sliced ribeye. The sandwich was served up as a molten hot mess and the sandwich roll nearly fell apart. It was just ok for me. The Godfather was a bucket list pick. It’s a hefty meal and a large is easily shareable. I had to wrap up the other half for later, which worked out well since everything marinated and mellowed out nicely after a few hours in the fridge. Not too too long though, before the bread got soggy. If you’re especially a fan of root beer, then you should check out their refrigerated selection of bottled soft drinks, which usually offers a wide variety of root beer, some with useful, funny, and cool bottle labels. It’ll take some time before you work through their full list of root beer bottles. I’m a fan and support this mom and pop shop for their historical and nostalgic value as a part of the Lemon Grove community.

It’s one of those«don’t judge a book by it’s cover». Looks questionable from the outside and in a random area but their sandwiches are really good. This place reminds me of an old 70’s diner

Just okay. I can really REALLY appreciate that they cook all their own turkey and chicken. However, I was so pleasant to the older woman working here. I thanked her after my order was taken and got no response whatsoever. When our to-go order was ready and she handed me the bag, I said, «thank you so much»(I was really looking forward to my sandwich after many recommendations) and she said NOTHING. Not even a crack of a smile. Just misery. And the sandwich was okay. Kind of dry to be honest, even with avocado and extra mayo. It was good, but nothing I would crave and want to go back for. The selection of cream soda looked pretty vast.

Good old fashioned mom n pop shop in lemon grove. I LOVE their HUGE selection of sodas, mostly good old fashioned root beer. They were out of birch beer on this trip :(The sammies take a few minutes to come out but the wait is well worth it! I felt like I was sitting in my grandma’s kitchen eating lunch, sipping on a micro brewed root beer. I ordered the Italian sausage with cheese and sauteed onions, peppers, and mushrooms. It came out hot and toasty. Just the way I like it! If u happen to be in the hood and your tummy is rumbling go check them out. You won’t be disappointed.
