This place is delicious… Would have given 5 stars but the the woman at the counter was rude as hell!!!

Very comfortable environment, with a very friendly and helpful staff. Although they do not have a wide variety of items on their menu, every single thing they do have is fantastic. The Italian Beefs are hands down the best in KC, Chicago dogs are delicious, and the pizza is some of my favorite in the city. I highly recommend trying The Pizza Man!

The food is OK, the service is poor! On the day I went, there were several sign near the cashier that they do not accept large bills. $ 50 and $ 100 were obvious, but they were also not accepting $ 20 bills. Seriously? I ordered a small pizza and salad combo with a «can» drink. I asked if they had any water in the cooler, and the response I got was«I don’t know. It’s my first day back in 7 months.» I pointed out to him that there was a whole case of water in the cooler behind him, and I was told that to upgrade from a can to a bottle of water was $.30. I offered my credit card to pay for the difference, but he refused. The dining area was extremely busy. We got the only open table. Do not go to this place for the ambience(or the service). The booth banquettes are totally sunken in. The walls are painted bright blue, and it looks as if they have been patched and repainted in spots with a totally different color blue. I had to wait 5+ minutes for my salad, since they ran out right before I ordered. It was given to me with no dressing, do I had to ask the(rude) cashier for a packet of dressing(direct from Restaurant Depot — Chef’s Quality brand). Once our pizzas arrived, they were hot any very tasty. It had a nice thin crust that was perfectly crunchy and just the right amount of sauce and cheese on it. I ordered mushrooms on mine, and while they were fresh mushrooms, there wasn’t a whole lot on there. However, there were no red pepper shakers or parmesan cheese shakers on any of the tables or on the condiment area. So I had to go back to the(unpleasant) cashier and request yet another condiment. Apparently, there is only 1 red pepper shaker for a dining room with nearly 20 tables. So, all in all — the food is OK. Most is pre-prepared or packaged items they buy directly from Restaurant Depot(giardiniera, salad dressings, italian beef, etc). All of the refrigerators(both in the kitchen and for self service) are residential-use refrigerators that are being used for commercial use. But if you don’t mind bad service and borderline dirty dining room, the food is quite good.

I’ve been coming here for years, and I’ve yet to write a review. First off, straight up, this is the best Italian beef sandwich I’ve had outside of Chicago. The pizza is a great thin crust, and all of the dogs are on point. For a first timer I recommend getting a slice of pizza and the Italian beef sandwich, and bring along someone to roll you out the door.

Four more dogs last night – and NO regrets about anything I’ve previously written. Now, note that my reviews are for carry out experiences only. We live close by and since this restaurant has no beer/wine etc. we complete our meal experience in our kitchen. During weekends I’ve seen two people working there. It’s a very small restaurant. Otherwise it’s the chef alone… clearly not bad according to the food he delivers!

Worst service ever. After ordering and waiting 35 minutes for a sandwich and everyone around me got their food that came in well after me, I asked where my food was. The owner in the back actually yelled at me and said«what do you want».

Many years ago I ate at the Pizza Man before it moved to this location. I sort of forgot about it until tonight. The same quality of food moved right along with the location. Thank goodness. I tried the steak sandwich with the cheese and peppers and it was outstanding. Spicy but not insanely. Bread toasted just right. The peppers added the right amount of heat to an already delicious sandwich. The jus was a bonus flavor. With the construction blocking Pflumm this place is not getting a lot of traffic. I hope those in the area will remember this great little place and stop in for great food while supporting a locally-owned business. You’ll be glad you did.

I drive right past Minsky’s pizza for the best thin crust pizza in south Kansas city, Pizza Man. The atmosphere is seriously lacking, but the pizza is so good, I just get it to go. If you think Stonewall/Grinder’s pizza is good, go next door and treat yourself to Pizza Man. You won’t regret it.

The only place in KC I have found for authentic Chicago food. The Italian beef is my go to even if they make it like they are from the North side of Chicago, I prefer the South side way with no cheese, sport peppers instead of giardiniera, and roasted red peppers. Their Chicago dogs are perfect and their other brats and dogs are great too. Most importantly, they use the right brands of bread and meat that I just can;t find out here in KC… do they get them shipped from Chicago? I miss being able to buy Vienna Beef hot dogs in the grocery store. I have not tried the pizza. The place has the usual Chicago memorabilia stuff on the walls; Michael Jordan, Cubs, Blackhawks, etc.

WOW, Another Great Meal from The Pizza Man! Cant’ decide if the pizza is better than the Italian Steak… Love em both! Don’t let the construction keep you away! This is the Best Pizza in town!

If you need that Chicago Dog fix… No where else do I go but to Pizza Man! Get Italian Beef sandwiches and his thin pizza is the best in town…(Former Chicagoan)

Yeesh. I tried this restaurant because I had a coupon. First red flag: it was a Friday night and the place closed at 7. Second red flag: we called at 6:10 and the phone was busy indefinitely. So we decided to walk in since it was on the way home and clearly enough time to order. At 6:20 we arrived and probably the most miserable employee greeted us, it was actually laughable how she obviously did not want us there. There were signs posted that also showed they wanted to leave at 7:00 p.m. And not a second later. «No dine in customers after 6:30», so inviting. She stated this again, and also stated that our take out order is going to take 25 min, okay fine, we would have called in earlier but you clearly took the phone off the hook. Okay maybe she had a bad day, I’d almost excuse her if she was a 16 year old girl wanting to get to her Friday night activities, but this was a grown woman. Not a great start Mr. Pizza Man… We get our order home, the Italian Beef Sandwich is actually pretty good. We also tried the Deluxe pizza, it was not great. And also confused why this place is called The Pizza Man, they pretty much only rave about their hotdogs and sandwiches. We may try this place again to get one of those sandwiches and make sure we allow ample time, since we wouldn’t want to frustrate the face of your business. I make a part of my opinion based around customer service for many establishments. And this one failed miserably.

.Italian.Beef.Ever! They serve up a Chicago style Italian beef sandwich that will make you swoon! Everything about this sandwich. beef, jus, peppers, bread. it’s all perfect. We have got the pizza once but we are pizza snobs so it wasn’t for us. Nothing wrong with it, cracker crust and good toppings. I’ve been told the Chicago dog is really great too but I can’t tear myself away from the sandwich. It’s in a very small strip mall away from the road so it is easy to miss. Also they close at like 7:30 during week and I think 6p on weekends. Grinders is now right next door to strip mall if that helps with directions to this place.

Service is a little short here. Cashier did not listen to our check instructions and just rung us up and swiped the card for all instead of splitting as instructed. Obviously inattentive. The big deal here is the hot Italian beef. It’s like Chicago. The right bread. The right jus. The right beef. The right Giardiniera. It’s so good. The only thing missing is the ability to have them dunk the whole sandwich in the jus and counter to eat at while you are dripping into your plate.

They have the best italian beef sandwiches as well as hot dogs and pizza. It’s kid friendly. The folks that run the joint are friendly and they go above and beyond. And if you’re a Chicago sports fan you’ll surely get a kick out of the décor. This is one of the best hidden gems in the city.

This place is solid. I like that you can get pizza by the slice. There aren’t that many places in town where you can do that. The Italian beef sandwich is also really really good. I’m not a Chicago sports fan but if you are you’ll appreciate all the sports pictures and memorabilia on the walls. Make no mistake, this certainly isn’t a high end place to go on a date with your wife. If you’re looking for a greasy lunch that takes great and is pretty affordable then this is it.

Solid every time. Their location troubles me. I wonder if this place goes unnoticed largely because it sits kind of tucked away, hidden from site? All the more reason to do what I can to get the word out, because this place is worth it. If you like your pizza with cracker-thin crust, this place is for you. Ordered a few pizzas here and I’ve yet to be disappointed. I doubt you’ll be disappointed either.

It’s hard when you move to a new state and have to leave your favorite pizza place behind. Pizza Man pizza is as close as I’ve been able to get to my old Ohio favorite. Two thumbs up!

I called ahead and ordered some Italian beef sandwiches for carry out. I was told that my order would be ready in about 15 minutes. I arrived 20 minutes after placing my order and didn’t have any issues picking it up and going in my merry way. The food was still pretty hot, fresh, and the sandwiches were huge! The beef was tender and flavorful too :) I’m looking forward to trying their pizza!

Stopped at PM for a late lunch with Jamie, and scored a couple o chicago dogs and a ‘za. Quality of both were still excellent(although the dog was not piping hot, served rather at a tepid temp), with each dish perfectly balanced and composed with quality ingredients. I love Pizza Man! The ambiance here is family borderline grating, with loud pinball machine noises as the only soundtrack. Not a date place, or a joint to make a good first impression. Solid food in a spartan Chicago sports-centric space is what you get here.
