The Pizza Maker

This place has closed and was apparently bought out, oh how I already miss this place. Their pizza was original and delicious, which is hard to find nowadays. Hope to see another one open up someday.

Great pizza, friendly service, always easy to be seated. More video games would be good for the kids.

I just ate there, and all I can say is WOW!!!
First, quality of food is impeccable. Sauce taste natural, amazing crust, and toppings galore.
Second, if you were to rate the service from 1 to 10… It gets a 9.283 (don’t worry, it’s a tried and true calculation). The staff handles themselves with the utmost professionalism and exudes sincere customer service.
Last but not least, econonmically priced drinks. Great venue for a nice, relaxing pizza dinner.
Just do it

First point, weird location. But I guess it’s cheap rent.
Second point, good pizza. Nice sauce and plenty of it, crispy crunchy crust and lots o toppings.
I imagine on a weekend night, it might be a kickin place to have a beer/​pizza party. Will surely be back soon.

Kind of a hidden location.
Went for lunch. Had the meatball sandwich, it was pretty darn good.
The owner and staff were very friendly.
I’d like to go back for the bbq or bufffalo pizza.

I’m going to preface this review by saying I have high standards when it comes to thin crust pizza. You better bring your «A» game if you want to impress me with some thin crust action. Pizza Maker brings more of a «C-​/​D+» game in terms of quality/​taste. It is somewhat similar to Pizza Shoppe with a crackery crust (which is decent), but it sorely lacks in the sauce/​cheese department. To put it bluntly, this pizza is easily forgettable.
In all fairness, Pizza Maker is more of a 2.5 star experience. I’m granting an extra half star because I like the whole hometown Lenexa pride vibe exuding from this place. If I ever coach a little league baseball team, I might consider treating the kiddos to some sub-​par pizza here.

I’ve had the opportunity to visit The Pizza Maker several times over the last few years, but it has been a while since I’ve been in so this review isn’t as fresh as it should be.
I have always found The Pizza Maker to be a fairly solid local pizza place. Their crust is thin, somewhat cracker-​like. Similar to Pizza Shoppe, but not similar enough that it should keep you from going if you don’t like Pizza Shoppe. In my recollection it is actually closer to Pizza Oven over off State Line. Anyway, the pizzas are good and the sauce garlicky. The service has been hit or miss in my experience, but it is a decent place to try if you feel as though you’ve exhausted your know pizza locales.

Let me set the tone for my opinion of pizza before I start this review. In Kansas City, I definitely prefer one place above all the others, and then there’s all the rest. At least that’s my opinion, which is what this place is all about, right?
(The Pizza Maker falls in one of all the others, by the way.)
I’ve been to The Pizza Maker twice. The first time, we just went with the standard pepperoni/​beef toppings that we get everywhere. It was just alright. I didn’t figure I would return for their pizza, but there were enough specialty pizzas that I figured we would someday make a return trip.
Sure enough, we did, and the BBQ pizza was very good. We also ordered some of their cheesy ravioli, which was not so great.
What’s great about this place is really the atmosphere. It’s got that old pizza pub feel, and the staff is always extremely friendly and nice. In that respect, this place might be tops.
My only gripe might be that there is no sign that says «Please Be Seated» at the front, so there is that unsure moment when you first walk in, but it’s no biggie unless that kind of thing makes you break down and cry.
I definitely suggest giving this place a try at least once.
