My family and I always come by this place while we’re visiting from out of town. They sell very creamy and delicious custard that’s simply too hard to pass up. They also sell a nice variety of Perry’s ice cream, but the custard is definitely where it’s at. Love it!

Yes, after my disappointing lunch I so wanted to hand out five stars to this custard stand on Lewiston’s main drag that harkened me back to my childhood. What a fantastic start!!! The young lady inside the window beamed her beautiful smile at me. Her counterpart shared how he blended two flavors to customers’ delight and he never stopped smiling! Service is such a key … Caring about customers with a smile so important! They have it figured out here! My first bite/lick into the black raspberry custard made my smile match those of my young servers! They know how to create creamy delicious flavors mmmmmm But you see four stars. How in the world could the heavenly drop a star. ICE — yes in my smooth delicious custard I found icy pieces that just shouldn’t be in great custard. Yes, if given the opportunity this would be 4 ½ stars but that’s not my option so it’s a four. But, if you are near Lewiston and hungry for sweet deliciousness plus great service … Head here! Get the custard!!! They also carry Perry’s ice cream but you can get that at your local grocery store. Mmmmm so good!

A chocolate and vanilla custard, large, was what I needed after driving with my top down from Buffalo on this sunny hot day. And it was creamy and cold and smooth and rich and luscious and tasty in that order. It was easy to order at the stand’s window from the friendly staffer. While I waited I watched another worker fill pints with freshly made chocolate custard. If it would not have been soup by the time I got home, I would have gone for one. The ice cream custard is that good. They have a lot of Perry’s choices if you are not into soft custard. And today they had 3 other flavors of soft serve. The tables were clean. There were people of all ages. Who doesn’t love ice cream. I am not saying I would drive here from Buffalo just for an ice cream fix. There are several good options in the City and the nearby suburbs. But if you find yourself in this vicinity, and you need to satisfy that sweet tooth, try this stand.

The custard is top notch, but their sizes/prices are ridiculous. $ 5 for a small that is way way too big doesn’t add up. There is no reason a child should have to eat a «small» that is as big as their head.

THEABSOLUTEBESTCUSTARD this side of heaven!!! Thanks to Joe H’s help, I reconnected with this ultimate custard stand in the heart of Lewiston and it is well worth the drive from Cheektowaga. I originally had their custard when they opened a separate stand behind the [now closed] New Whistle Pig on NFB but was told they were closing as well & I was very sad. Thankfully Joe H. directed me to the original location in Lewiston. Now come to find out they are open @ that location as well on NFB. So I will happily return there [little less distance] but the same ULTIMATECUSTARD as the original in Lewiston. This ice cream is very similar to gelato in that it has less air pumped into it… it’s very rich and denser than any other custards I’ve ever had and I’m old so I’ve had my share! ;) If you go to their very informative website they will explain why their custard is such a masterpiece… you can also check out flavors which change frequently. It is well worth the trip to either this original location or the NFB one to let your family taste what REALCUSTARD is from the old days rather than the new soft serve ice milk is of today. Plus the this Portage Rd. stand has a covered picnic bench area, and a pretty flower lined open area and it’s also across from the park. Can’t ask for more than that on a sunny day!

Fabulous hand made custard. The vanilla is sublime, and the chocolate made with Hershey’s chocolate. The black raspberry custard is not to be missed. When I was a kid it was always the flavor of the day on Sunday, but now it shows up all of the time. Except for Kopp’s in Milwaukee it is the best custard I have ever had. The staff is always super friendly.

Ridiculously overpriced! $ 8.50 for two ice creams; yikes! Their frozen custard is good, but not anything that is terribly memorable. I know I’m probably the minority on that, but the price of things aligned with the very average taste and texture, makes me give this a three star rating — not bad, not great — average.

This is a very unique place with amazing custard. This isn’t the typical ice milk custard this is the homemade made with love type of ice cream. They had a few different flavors of custard to choose from. They scoop their custard it doesn’t come out of a machine. I got the raspberry cheesecake. It was so smooth and creamy and really hit the spot on a hot day! There was so much flavor in the raspberry swirl mixed with the cheesecake flavor ice cream. It was mixed just right and there was so much flavor in one spoonful. I will be back again to try other flavors they have to offer. This may be my new ice cream spot! Well worth the drive to feed your taste buds!

High hopes… But the strawberry ice cream appears to be made from essence vs real fruit purée. Staff super nice regardless and the ice cream was well made(little to no crystals)

The one in Niagara Falls is terrible! They did not know how to use the register or the milkshake machine. Way over priced. Poor quality all the way around. Nice inside, seemed clean.

So I had always heard of Hibbard’s but I had never really had the chance to get up there since I live in the distant land of Elmwood Village. Butttt, that being said, this is definitely worth the drive and the $ 2 toll if you’re coming from Buffalo. I /love/soft serve and custard and this is easier some of the best I’d ever had. It’s not Lake Effect, what with interesting flavors, but these are the standards done perfectly. I had two scoops of the cookies and cream and a scoop of choclate(medium size) and my boyfriend has two scoops of the blackberry(which had some of the brightest blackberry flavors ever, not chemically or anything) and a scoop of chocolate. We didn’t get any to take home though and I would be interested to see how it would keep at home, but 10⁄10 would recommend.

Delicious custard in a quaint little stand. Their flavors change daily the employee told us. Oh and an important thing — the cones were fresh. The chocolate custard was amazing.

Some of the best ice cream and malts we have tasted! As my boyfriend puts it «they didn’t flinch when I asked for a large chocolate malt and a scoop of chocolate ice cream on it». Even though we were there last week while at Niagara Falls we still rave about the fresh ice cream. A must go to!

Oh yeah! Hibbards is back open! It’s all about the homemade custard here, unless you want that perry’s stuff! The custard is so tasty and creamy and the flavors change all the time! It’s just the way I’ve always remembered it growing up! Time may fly as the years go by and yes things change, but here the custard never has! I can’t wait to come back over and over and over again for more! Yum!

Easily the best frozen custard you will find in Western New York. My wife and I drove to Lewiston from downtown Buffalo(about a 30-min drive), and it was well worth it! We each got a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate peanut butter cup. Both flavors were phenomenal. The service was fast and very friendly. The scoops were a good portion, and definitely satisfying. Great day to enjoy our frozen treat at their umbrella-shaded picnic tables. I highly recommend taking a trip to Hibbard’s in beautiful Lewiston!

Good homemade custard. I’ve been going here for quite a while. The food is good, but can take a long time.

There is a song about this place. Old Mother Hibbard, sat on a lizard, eating her custard and whey. Along came a customs officer and took the custard off of her and frightened Miss Hibbard away. So upset was she, that she opened her own custard stand so she’d never be out of custard again. And a legend was born. In the summer, it seems like the entire town of Lewiston gravitates to Hibbard’s. That might be because it’s the only option in town, who knows. I tried it and I liked it. It wasn’t amazing, but neither was it bad. It was just your average, delicious, interesting, compelling, brilliant custard stand. Only without the interesting, compelling and brilliant. Is it just me or do people in Lewiston seem like they are in a hurry and very serious? Perhaps it’s because there is a bridge to Canada here and they are worried that immigrants are infiltrating their community. Or perhaps it is because there is a bridge nearby known as the Whirlpool, and they are worried they will get sucked into aforementioned Whirlpool. Anyway, if you’re up for a typical custard experience anywhere near the Niagara Gorge(named as such because it’s Gorge-ous), then Old Mother Hibbard’s is your place. I need to come back and try the home made fries and home made burgers sometime.

Very friendly staff. Ample parking in the front making it a short walk to the order window. Be prepared to dine outside under an umbrella. Great place to visit after a Artpark concert for a late night snack. I visited the drive-in or food half of the establishment. But know that there ice cream is delicious from previous visits. Must stop when in lewiston!

Their ice cream is EXCELLENT. When I’m out in this area from here on out, I will definitely make sure to save some room for their milkshakes. Absolutely some of the best ice cream I have every eaten — it is so fresh, creamy, and made with real ice cream from within their own company, no middle man like Perry’s(although they do offer it). Their other flavors made in house are excellent as well, their amaretto and other self made types are the main attraction.
