I really wanted to love this place, but aside from the ambience and the waiter everything else lacked! The food was flavorless and it unfortunately came out much too rare! I had the pork chip and my husband had the steak. Very disappointed to say the least!

Delicious farm to table restaurant. Kauai grass fed rib eye to die for. Great drinks, yummy spiced macadamia nuts and the $ 25.00 three course meal finished with ooey gooey chocolate dessert. Mention Unilocal for your complimentary donuts/beignets/malasades!

22 North is a good spot for a romantic dinner of locavorian cuisine. Almost everything comes from the nearby plantation – how can you beat that? The cocktails are unique and original. I had the T-bone and the boyfriend had the sirloin. Both were cooked perfectly and the sides were delicious. For dessert, the chocolate fondant was heavenly and the lemon pie crust thing that my boyfriend had was also very good, if a little hard to eat. If you make it out to this plantation, definitely stop by here for a meal. I docked a star for inattentive service. One waitress vs. many tables = long wait times.

After hard deliberation I decided to do our yearly Christmas dinner here my last night on Kauai with a party of 8. The seating wasn’t my favorite because it was all the way on the way on the back so it was really dark and cold and half the table had to sit on pillows because it was under bricks which caused us to slouch! The ambiance was really pretty with the trees, grass and garden to look at while we ate. out of the 8, 7 of us got the huge cut prime rib dinner which came with mashed potato’s and sauteed string beans for only $ 25! My girlfriend got the 3 course meal and she chose the shrimp soup Du jour, meat loaf and the ooey gooey cake. For our appetizers our waiter hooked us up with free olive poppers, bowl of spiced macadamia nuts and these bread balls… I really loved the mac nuts and I’m not even a nut eater! haha. I also shared a bowl of the shrimp Du jour soup which was in a creamy orange For drinks I had to get a glass of Riesling which our water even brought a sample for me to try just to make sure it was sweet enough for me. A few of my girlfriends got the different mojito drinks, lava flows, beer and a watermelon drink that was outrageously strong! Everything tasted yummy especially the prime rib because you seriously get more than what you pay for… so forget Duke’s skinny and expensive prime rib and come here instead! Our bill was actually really good considering there was 8 of us and of everything we ordered. I love the fact that they let us use 4 $ 5 off coupons with our bill. Our waiter not only was he really nice, friendly, helpful but he was really funny with his French accent and he didn’t mind taking photos of us girls… big *high five* to him! So you already we had to tip him way over 25%

I loved the ambiance. 22 Noth is nestled within a historic plantation so there is much to see befoe dining — explore the historic house(there are some vendors) and there is a rum tasting place there but it closes at 4 pm for some reason. Next to the luau as well. The outdoor seating makes for a great, garden setting though the mosquitos ate me alive. Cocktails are made with local, fresh ingredients and were fantastic, namely the Bloody Mary and the Lime in the Coconut(and they do shake it all up). The beet carpaccio salad was good but could use more goat cheese(can’t everything?) the seafood trio was disappointing. The Ahi was bland, I think I detected cilatnro somewhere in the salad it sat upon, the two head-on shrimp were way overcooked as was the fish filet with it. Blah, especially for $ 31. Dessert — Coffee Pot De Crème was good not great but the free« Unilocal» donuts were a highlight. Worth a visit when on Kauai.

One of the best restaurants on the island! And I got my munch on all over the damn place so I can definitely make the call. Too bad we ate here on our last night. They’re located on the very farm where they source most of their fresh, delicious produce and they utilize local meat and seafood which is awesome. It’s on the Kilohana Plantation – a pretty rad destination. Between the two of us, we got a little buckwild with our order. For appetizers, we ordered ahi ceviche(incredible), watermelon & fennel salad(the local chevre was badasstical), and shrimp & grits(jumbo Kauai prawns!!!). For entrees, the dude had the local beef(filet mignon cut) and I had the seafood trio(ahi, snapper & prawns). All of it was fucking delicious and cooked perfectly. I admire any restaurant that leaves the heads on its shrimp because I will devour it like a famished sea dragon. The cocktails were delicious – they served a lilikoi mojito that night that was out of fucking control. Look, I have nothing against old people(liar) and the dining room was jam packed with them, but overhearing my fellow diners was a major bum out. One guy was commenting that the taste of his beef was«different» and«not what he’s used to.» He wasn’t saying it in a positive way either. Uhhh… maybe it’s because you’re not eating some bullshit factory-farmed, hormone-pumped robo cow? Maybe that’s it? Another guy was making ridiculous demands, but the restaurant happily accommodated him. The service was very attentive, but a bit frazzled. FRAZZLED. Probably because they had to appease a few too many stuffy elderly eaters. We overheard the waitress mention to a table that the management is changing and they may go back to being«Gaylords» with a completely different menu. This is heartbreaking because more restaurants in Hawaii need to be focused on using local ingredients to their potential and doing it in a creative way. And because«Gaylords» is a fucking awful name for a restaurant/anything. I’m guessing that their«innovative» menu isn’t conducive to the demand of their customers, but hopefully I’m wrong. If you’re in Kauai, venture to 22 North and enjoy it… while you still can…

Really tasty meal, great service. It’s pricey( Unilocal puts it at $$$ but I’d change that to $$$$, personally). Beautiful setting. Our server, Robert, was fantastic. Loved him. Very patient with our large and somewhat difficult group.

We actually ate at the same location earlier in the week, but it was the luau next door. The two are affiliated, but this restaurant is a MUCH different(read: Unilocal!) experience. This place has the ambiance of a restaurant in Napa, CA. There are lots of outside tables, a fire pit in the middle and there was live music(kind of jazz /soft-rock). Our server, Dennis, was very nice and accommodating, as was the hostess, Robyn. I had: 1) Manoa salad 2) Seafood trio(mahi mahi over veggies, seared tuna over noodles, prawns) 3) Donuts, which were free because I checked on Unilocal and earned the award(very cool)! They have a decent drink menu. I tried the 22 Breeze and a glass of Vigonier. This place is not too expensive relative to other places on Kauai. Seafood trio was most expensive entrée at $ 35. Some appetiZers(including my manoa salad) are half off after 8pm on Fridays. Skip the luau next door and eat MUCH better(and cheaper) here

My boyfriend and I came in for lunch, the dining area is alfresco so that you can enjoy the beautiful grounds of the estate. My man ordered the burger of the day, and I, being the picky eater asked for their fish and chips, but with chicken instead of fish. They accommodated my request, but I felt that my chicken was a little undercooked. My BF said he loved his burger, they have all these terrific sauces for everything… Not to mention the free, yes free, bag of donuts that you receive for checking in!

A great farm to table restaurant located near the mall in kauai. This was probably one of the best meals Ive had in Kauai. The restaurant is located on the farm itself, so you know its legit. Menu changes pretty consistently due to what is the freshest out there. You can even go on a train ride to look at the estate which includes the farm in the afternoons. As for the food, we ordered 3 appetizers which included the spiced macadamia nuts, the spicy meatballs served with arugula, and the olive poppers. The spiced macadamia nuts were addicting as mentioned before, the spicy meatballs were served slightly cold in what is probably one of the best tomato sauces Ive had. The meatballs were served next to a side of arugula which were extremely fresh. The olive poppers were pretty great as well, how is this the first time ive had something like this! As for the entrees, i got the prime rib sandwich which was served on homemade focaccia bread with some cured meats other then a mound of prime rib. The sandwich was pretty massive, but i wish the meats were warmer, at around room temp or slightly warmer, and i wish the bread was toasted. The wifey ordered the fish salad which was Mahi Mahi and it was very good, but slightly too salty. I am convinced farm to table is the way to go after eating at this place. The prices are very reasonable, and the serving size is more than adequate. Definitely a must try if you are in the area.

Holy shit were we surprised by this place! I could not believe how unbelievably fresh and perfectly complemented the flavors were. If you are putting together a ‘Must Visit’ list this should be on it.

Executive Summary: Wow I just found my favorite restaurant ever. $ 253-course dinner farm-to-table salad, catch of the day(Ono) with cilantro tomatilli sauce and a chocolate cake with pitcher of cream dessert. Service was outstanding; waiter explained everything and was prompt and helpful. Setting was divine with courtyard focal point and all open air seating. Farm with veggies that they pluck for your salad just yards away. Glimpse of sunset with firepit ambiance. Bottom Line: Absolutely stellar. My kind of place.

The grilled fish salad was OUTSTANDING! The fish was the perfect match to the butter lettuce, the dressing and everything in between. The Opah was wonderful with all the little flavor bites that surprised you as you enjoyed your meal. Super friendly staff that all seem to play a roll in keep the open air seating flowing well!

This place takes sustainability and farm to table to a whole new level. Recycled water glasses made from cut down wine bottles, random cardboard coasters, knowing that your meat is local, organic, grass-fed, bread is homemade… you can just taste the thoughfulness that went into the food and the ambiance. 22 North is a great place for many occasions — work dinner or date. The service was what you would expect at a fine dining restaurant despite the somewhat casual outdoor experience. I had the pork chop with kale and kabocha mash. Everything was perfectly seasoned and I am dying to figure out how to recreate that scrumptious mashed kabocha at home. Took advantage of the Unilocal check in offer of a bag of malasadas and SO glad I did! Quite possibly the best malasadas EVER! Very light, not overly sugared or too greasy they were somewhat mini sized and heavenly. Will definitely be back… now I have to try the brunch!

Had the beef sandwich with sweet potato chips The beef was perfect and was very generous. The chips where the best I have ever had, and the seasoning on them paired so well with them.

finally got to try 22 north for lunch today. it was on my top 20 to dine at while vacationing home for a month. i think i might have enjoyed dinner more if i had the opportunity to return. dad got the daily burger — chef’s daily whimsical preparation of ground local meat(could be beef, lamb, or veal)– it was kauai beef today! we both really love kauai beef. it had this bacon jam that was interesting, but tasted good. i got the fish & chips — local catch was mahi mahi, MBC bikini blonde beer batter, hand-cut fries, jalapeño-malt aioli(the aioli was so ono!). i think the red sauce that accompanied my plate was a home-made ketchup. there was a peculiar spice that i singled out that i didn’t care for, but i couldn’t tell you the name of it. so i had to ask for regular ketchup, haha. their keiki items are pretty expensive. it cost $ 9 for a keiki fettucini alfredo. i think the noodles were home-made, too, but the sauce tasted like something i could have whipped up in a couple minutes at home. the nice thing was that it came with a juice and a scoop of icecream at the end. and thanks to Unilocal,i got a free bag o’ doughnuts(they were portuguese doughnuts(in hawaii we call them malasadas)) which was probably the tastiest thing i had!

OK, I have mixed feelings on this place… Food: Amazing! Prices: Typical for Kauai. (1 app; 1 salad; 2 dinners; 2 desserts; 2 drinks = $ 140 including tip) Quantity: Skimpy. Ordered Fried Green Tomatoes & received only #3 paper-thin, 50-cent-sized slices! I’m not sure if we ordered the last ones available but 3 bites for 2 people for $ 15 is ridiculous! I would have much rather them say«Sorry, we are out» than to be that skimpy. The other portions were much better though. Dessert: OMGTHEBESTEVER!!! Drinks: «lime n’ coconut» cocktail with basil. Died & gone to heaven! I WILL eat here again, only next time I will order the«3 course dinner special» which has slightly smaller portions, but was only $ 25. My 2 friends ordered the same quantity of food & drink as we did but they escaped for only $ 80 including the tip!!! HUGEDIFFERENCE!

We have enjoyed both lunch and dinner several times at 22° North. Our most recent visit was late March. Since we have lived on Kauai for many years, of course we also ate at this location when it was Gaylords. We really appreciate the 22 Degrees North dining concept. Their«Farm to Table» motto is a reality here, with many of the ingredients grown on farms very near the restaurant. Fresh goat cheese, free range eggs and meat from Kauai sources make the menu really interesting. There is a chalk board at the entrance listing the currently available local vegetables and fruits being served.(There is a similar drink-related board in the bar) The restaurant is set in a nice, quiet, historic building with tables facing three sides of a central outdoor garden. Management has made a commitment to recycling throughout the restaurant: water glasses are crafted from wine bottle bottoms, coasters are recycled cardboard, candle holders are made from recycled glass, and the table tops are made from zinc printing plates. The food is prepared with care and includes several seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes. Some of our favorites were those that used local ahi, a pork ragu, and fresh salads. I’ve added a couple of food photos from our visits. The menu is constantly changing to reflect what fresh ingredients may be available on any particular day, so it’s hard to recommend a specific dish. We suggest that when you arrive, you ask the friendly staff what their favorites may be. We have always had good service here. The bag of free doughnuts that you get for checking in on Unilocal are like the warm beignets you get in New Orleans. Yummy.

Not sure what all of the bad reviews are about, this was a memorable Christmas dinner. We all got the ‘not so traditional Christmas dinner,’ and each course was prepared to perfection. The coconut bisque was amazing, we thought how is it possible to top that? The entrée was cooked and prepared to a T. From start to finnish the flavors complimented each other in a traditional American fashion with a hint of Hawaiian influence. All around, it was a perfect meal, in a perfect atmosphere with perfect service. I don’t know how anyone could write a bad review about this place. In sum, it was perfect!

Really cool vibe in a really cool spot. It used to be Gaylord’s, which I hear was an old school prime rib joint. So if you’re expecting that then this might not be your restaurant. But it still has the cool spot with the outdoor courtyard setting with tables surrounding the outside of the plantation house. Service is really friendly and I love the outdoor ambience. It’s a farm-to-table kind of concept and they have the story of what foods come from where. Some of the food even comes from their own property! We started with the bag of little bread rolls/muffins that were SO good. They said the first was on the house and the second we had to pay for. I don’t really know how much it was but it was worth it whatever it was. They also brought regular bread later that was just ok. The fried green tomatoes were quite good and my meatloaf was quite tasty. The arugula pasta was pretty good but I’d say it was ok. It’s a little pricey for the restaurant and I’m between a 3 and 4 star experience but rounded down since in the end it was pricey. We did get the free bag of doughnuts(for mentioning we saw them on Unilocal!) but they were RAW and still LIQUID. So that’s another reason I rounded down. Yes I know we didn’t have to eat them but it was RAW and just made me wonder that this kitchen may still have some snags to work out the good and the bad. It was too late for me too that I took a big bite of a doughnut and was like hmm, is there supposed to be doughnut filling inside? And after inhaling most of it realized, ‘OHCRAPIT’S NOTCOOKED!’. Luckily we didn’t get sick. But that said, I do think it is worth visiting, if not for the cool ambience. I’d consider visiting again but I’d have to really weigh how pricey it is and the fact that we had some ups and downs(e.g., raw doughnuts).
