2016-06-25. Terrible experience!!! Good service Bad food. We made JJ’s our last stop before catching a red-eye home. There was 8 of us and two adults ordered hamburgers — medium and well done. We got to airport and the 2 who ate the burgers both had food poisoning. One adult had to go to the hospital. Both missed their flight with 4 teenagers having to make the trip home without their parents.

View is beautiful. Fries are great. Service on the other hand has major room for improvement. Served the wrong meal, food runner took it away and put it down on the table next to us(who it belonged to). Asked for separate tabs for four people and she was«really busy» as a person with food industry background it’s call touch a button on your POSAND Magic… The check can be split. Telling your table«it’s busy» doesn’t matter if there is 1 or 10 tables. FYI there was tons of staff, not one employee was«running like a chicken with their head cut off.»

We have eaten here before and it was ok. But tonight was another story. It was about the worst hamburger I’ve ever had. How can you mess up a hamburger? It was dry, dry, dry and absolutely tasteless. It had a slab of fake cheese too. The«salad» was a handful of huge lettuce pieces with a sprinkle of shredded carrot and a few slices of black olive. The dressing was blah. The waitress was nice enough, but didn’treturn our credit card and we had to go back to get it. $ 16.95 for this terrible food. I feel bad for getting ripped off.

I went to JJ’s for a nice meal with my wife. We ordered the steak and lobster. For 60 dollars a plate, I expect the food to be good. It was by far the worst tasting food I have ever eaten. The waitress was the sweetest though. I actually felt bad for her knowing people probably weren’t leaving decent tips due to the deplorable food. JJ’s seems like a better bar than restaurant. Needless to say I won’t be returning and felt bad for spending so much money on a horrible meal.

We can’t understand the poor reviews of JJs! Service was awesome, we were seated right away and had our drinks in front of us in just moments. Our waitress was sweet and attentive enough without being hovering. Good was also great, exactly what we wanted. We will gladly return!

This afternoon we had drinks and lunch at JJ’s Broiler. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. We had the chicken sandwich which was large enough to serve two. The fries were hot, well seasoned and delicious. The Mai Tais were excellent, perhaps the best in Kauai. Our server Kamaile was attentive, friendly and professional. We will definitely return for dinner and drinks.

Server was nice and sweet. Loved the strawberry shortcake drink and salad. Ranch dressing and croutons was homemade. Prime rib had too much garlic overpowering dish. I couldn’t enjoy the flavor of beef but mash potatoes was excellent. A lot of fat, too much for me. However portion was huge.

I have been to JJ’s a few times and have found it to be an average restaurant. The food is pretty good but it is pricey. They do not take American Express and for that reason I will never go back until they change their policy and accept American Express.

I use to enjoy the food at this restaurant… but after today’s order… I won’t be returning. Ordered a well done cheeseburger with bacon… which comes with a salad and fries. I got a very dry burger which was still pink, no fries, no bacon. Condiments were packets of mayo, ketchup and mustard. For a $ 19.00 tab… I would have expected much much more.

If you want quality, avoid the downstairs dining room. The fish for its«award-winning» fish and chips is bland and the malt vinegar doesn’t do much to enhance the taste. The burgers are dry and the wait help do not even bother to ask you how you want them done, whether it be rare, medium, well done, etc. If you want value, avoid the downstairs dining room. The food is overpriced and your money is better spent at the neighboring Duke’s Restaurant, where you get a full salad bar compared to a plate of iceberg lettuce at JJ’s, without a choice of any tropical dressings no less(we’re in Hawaii, for goodness sakes). Also, you pay a whopping $ 16 for only two crab cakes, which taste more like tuna cakes to me. On top of that, there are no free drink refills, so you should pace yourself when downing your iced tea or Coke. Probably the only things going for JJ’s downstairs dining room is the view of Kalapaki Bay, the big screen TVs for the sports enthusiasts, and the French fries.

This rating is for the best Lava flow we’ve ever had! Food is pretty good too and the view is killer! Very kind staff as well. I got the crab cakes which were pretty substantial and filling. Not bad for the price ;-)

My husband called this place«ocean front garbage,» and I have to agree. The view gets it two stars instead of 1. Our beer pitcher was dirty, and the food(we got the combo platter) was greasy and bland, and previously frozen. We also got the pulled pork sliders, and they were decent. Overall, skip this place.

I came here because I was staying at the banyan hotel and wanted somewhere in walking distance to get a drink. I got pulled in by the outdoor seating. Great view! Once inside, my sister and sat at the bar and got drinks from Jet. He greeted us right away and treates us like family.

The only thing keeping this place open is the fact that the Marriott is right next door. It is the epitome of a tourist restaurant; over priced and under quality but they don’t care you’ll probably never be back. I originally came because I wanted a loco moco, but upon arrival they told me they don’t serve it past 5pm. That’s odd because it shows it on Unilocal and their website. Also odd because they serve hamburgers on their menu all day. Steamed rice is a side option for dinner, and how hard is it to dry a few eggs and top it with gravy. We got the seafood chowder for a starter which was actually ok. It was certainly on the thick side but had decent flavor. No crackers came with the chowder though. My wife got the shrimp scampi which had so many mushrooms in it they must have ran out of them for gravy for their loco moco’s for dinner. The shrimp was over cooked and the entire dish was served on top of banana leaves.(never put something on a plate you can’t eat) I ordered the burger because I had my mind set on a burger. The beef had good flavor and was a high quality of beef but there was absolutely not seasoning on the patty. Also the fries that came with them tasting like they were fried in old fryer oil because they tasted burnt with out being over cooked. All in all go to dukes

Went there around 7:30pm on a Thursday night, it wasn’t that busy, but… They had awful service. I got the Cobb Salad. It was a giant beast of a salad.. . I got the papaya seed dressing. Well I thought I did it was a very dry salad. I would have asked for more dressing but she never came back to our table. For the price and service I’d say go on and skip this place.

My husband and I stopped by here one afternoon out of connivance after site seeing and shopping. We had an appetizer of calamari, wings, pork wontons, onion rings and baby octopus-ALL FRIED, served with three dipping sauces. All very good, while this was the first time having octopus, I think fried was the was to go for us. The second time we just wanted to go back. We had burgers and they were very tasty and juicy. The best thing about JJ Broilers is the location-the food was very good-but sitting out on the patio watching kids and families play and surf on the beach just right there, was great. We totally enjoyed the ocean view and meals were good also. It was very relaxing for us. Thank you Broilers. Im sorry some people didn’t enjoy their meals. Perhaps they just hit a rough day for the cooks or maybe we are not not as picky or not very good critics.

5 Reuben, 4 Fish Tacos and service, 2 Tuna Salad Sandwich. I had lunch here with my husband and father-in-law. THEGOOD: They had the Reuben and fish tacos, both with fries. I suspect the Reuben was better because dad was awfully quiet eating his sandwich! Hubs complimented the tacos but wished he ordered the Reuben. The food came out quickly and the plates were nice & hot. Portions were not too bad either. The waitress was very polite and EVERYONE who worked there exhibited the Aloha spirit! THEBAD: I ordered the tuna salad sandwich with fries. My plate was hot(which I didn’t mind) along with the delicious fries, but my tuna was warm and runny! The bread was toasted(which I love with tuna sandwiches), but the tuna made it soggy. It was a tuna«salad sandwich!» This is an easy fix… make it cold. Lastly, we ordered water & was never offered refills.

On our last day in Kauai we were just driving around wasting time till our flight was scheduled to leave. We ended up here because the burger place near it was PACKED and had zero seating. I am gonna admit I’m a brat and tell you I won’t wait 20+ min for a burger and then stand around to eat it. So, we ended up at JJ’s & I’m glad we did. We had a great view of the water on a particularly pretty day. There was a nice breeze, our waitress was quick, our food came out fast and everything tasted great. I’d ask how hard is it to mess up a burger, but I’ve been to other places that have accomplished that. The parking was super easy, the prices were not terrible, and I can’t say that I’ll ever come back here, but I think if you’re wondering if you should go, my answer would be ‘yes!’ Enjoy!

We sat on the patio for lunch and had a nice view of the bay. I asked about gluten free bread or bun for burgers but was told that this place has been here for a long time and the owners do not easily make changes especially for a fad or… she didn’t finish her sentence because she realized she said the wrong thing using the word fad. She did go on to mention that many people today already inquired about gluten free. They better get with the program then or lose potential customers. I ended up having the Cobb Salad and my husband had a burger and fries. The salad was huge and I could not finish it. For a steak house I was surprised that the bacon on the salad was the precook stuff just as it come from the bags delivered by the supplier, it was not heated to make it crispy and better quality, just cold, soft and blah. The chicken on the salad was cold also. I expected freshness from a steakhouse. The burger was good but was more like medium well then medium rare that my husband ordered. The cheese is American Cheese. Sorry that is not cheese… again you are a steakhouse and serve American cheese ??? That is a first for me. Hopefully they do steak better.
