Chicken Coop

One night standing in line at ShopRite I was buying their fried chicken for a quick dinner and complaining to the woman next to me about the quality, then she asked if I knew about this place. I live about 4 blocks away and had never been but last night I finally tried it. For a few months now I have been thinking about fried clams strips which I haven’t had in almost 40 years, last night I was transported back to my childhood. I ordered a 12 piece bucket, fried clams, popcorn shrimp, and a small box of fries, then the owner gave me a container of potato salad since it was my first time ordering. The chicken was fresh, the outside was amazingly crispy and the inside was juicy and perfectly cooked. The balance was impressive, in no way was the inside dried out and you could taste the chicken and not old oil like so many other places. The coating for the chicken can be a bit flat by today’s standards, because it isn’t covered in salt. CC has a quality product and covering it in salt/​sugar doesn’t improve it. My nephew in law enjoyed several pieces of chicken but he needed buffalo sauce. The fries are seasoned and better than any fast food place, the small box was shared by three of us and even the puppies had a few. My grand-​nephew loved the popcorn shrimp, all of them were perfectly cooked and even in color, the little guy also had a few pieces of chicken so he allowed me a few of his shrimp. I had the tartar sauce with my clam strips and I don’t know if the sauce started out in a jar but it had a real pizzazz, the extras in it are visible. The potato salad was not your standard deli potato salad but homemade like you get at a family picnic. All in all, my family will be back especially when the little guy wants popcorn shrimp with fries. If the owner sees this and is mad that I didn’t give him 5 stars, I want him to know that 5 stars is reserved for «dining» and if I could I would give him 4 ½ stars only losing a half star because it isn’t fine dining.
Forgot to mention, order ahead because there is NO chicken lying around under a heat lamp. The chicken is not cooked until you order it so it’s never dried out or soggy.

I love this place! I have nothing bad to say! I have tried many food over there such as: The Crispy Chicken Salad, many subs & wraps, and more! They were all my favorite and you can’t beat this place. Other people who think this place is horrible has terrible taste in food. Amazing service and the owner is very friendly and very nice. Definitely will be eating here and coming back for years to come! Try it, you’ll want to come back! I can’t even explain in words how terrific the Chicken Coop is! I was so hoping to like The Chicken Coops’ fried chicken. Sad to say, they did not meet my expectations.

I ordered a grilled chicken wrap with a side salad for lunch earlier in the day for $ 8.00. It wasn’t bad so I figured I’d try more from their menu. Later on that evening I called in an order for take out. The gentleman who took my order said it would be a half hour for pick-​up and I thought it was a reasonable amount of time to complete an order of this size. So I said, ok!
My order consisted of:
12 pieces of Fried Chicken that were crispy but did not pack much flavor and were a bit on the greasy side.
3 large sides. Baked beans that were just ok and taste like they are straight out of the can. Mashed potatoes with gravy. They were just ok. Four pieces of corn on the cob, which seemed like a whole ear of corn, that was cut into pieces. They were cold, mushy and had no flavor.
Total cost for this meal was $ 25.00. Yes it was very inexpensive and you get what you pay for, but it’s nothing I would have again.

Good fried food. Fish tastes fresh. The box of fries are HUGE, definitely enough for 5 people. The popcorn shrimp order has over 20 pieces. Big portions, decent prices, and although a lot of it is fried, the food never tastes like old oil, and never had a greasy feel to it.

I love this place. The food is fresh, delicious, and a great value. Delivery is always prompt. The fried chicken is crispy and flavorful. We especially love the potato salad, baked beans, and the wing-​zing wings. The garlic shrimp is awesome, too. These are the kinds of small establishments we need to support before they all go away.

They have the best take out chicken and filet fish in the area. The portions are big and always fresh. The owner is always friendly and the food is always hot and ready for pickup.

This place makes one of my favorite turkey and provolone subs its flipping huge and delish. I’ve gotten many random things here but the subs my fav… crispy chicken salads awesome too w holney mustard or ranch… unfortunately I no longer work across the street and I haven’t had it in a while… deliveries quick. if you pick it up sometimes there’s a foul oder outside I think the people in the above apartments are cat hoarders. And never order the ceasar dressing it made me gag whatever brand it was.

I’ve only tried one thing: the chicken BLT sub… and… IT WAS SO DELICIOUS! The owner was very friendly when I called in my order and it was ready when I went to pick it up 10 minutes later. Wonderful service.
