Crab cakes were horrible, my entire plate was frozen seafood, baked potato was cold and hard, and my son’s fries were not edible. The only plus was my sons crab legs, they were good and it was clean. However, I will not return. This reminded me of a place off of Restaurant Impossible before Robert Irvine fixes it. Find some fresh seafood…

Frozen crab cakes, shrimp, fries. Canned oysters. No flavor, utterly disappointing. I have no idea how anyone goes back to this place. Living this close to an ocean, there’s no excuse for frozen or canned anything.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Steven’s last week. My wife and I split a fried seafood platter with flounder and oysters and it was excellent, even with it not being oyster season. My kids both enjoyed their kids meal though I don’t remember what they ate. The hush puppies that were brought out before the meal were excellent also. This is a small restaurant, off the beaten path. But our party of 15 was seated very quickly and had good service. Well worth the extra 5 – 10 minute drive that it might take you to get here. Prices were fair — certainly not higher but also not lower than other restaurants in the area. I am deducting one star from my review because as others have mentioned while you can pay for your meal with a debit or credit card you can not leave a tip with one. Why? That is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. As someone who works in retail and is very well versed with many different credit card processors, I can only assume that the owners wanted to not have to pay credit card fees on the tips that the wait staff would get. This, in my opinion, is completely unacceptable and I would be very upset if I were a server here. Other than that everything is great and I am looking forward to coming back next time I am in town.

This review is only based on store policy, the food was actually pretty good, generous portions and reasonably priced but my beef is that they’ll let you pay for your meal using your debit card, but not allow you to leave a tip for your server. What a huge inconvenience! But worse, I feel bad for the server because this is simply a case of management/ownership passing on the costs to their staff. Three of us had a bill that came up to about 51 bucks, none of us had cash. So, instead of stiffing the server, we made a special effort to go find an ATM, get cash, come back and tip. Not to mention we’re out of towners and don’t know our way around that well. Plus, of course there’s an ATM fee. You shouldn’t make it this difficult and costly for your customers to treat your staff fairly!

Have early bird specials from 4 – 6 pm. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. We got a lot of food for a decent price.

We usually eat here two or three times over the two week we are in NMB each year. It is always good. The scallops and shrimp are very good. Price is comparable to other places but quality is much better. Wait staff is very friendly and attentive. Skip the touristy seafood places on the strip and go here for a great dinner, very filling too.

I’ve been coming to Steven’s since I was a child, so it’s hard, in some ways, to throw them a 3-star review… but it’s deserved. The big thing that I noticed upon visiting recently was the price. It seems ridiculously high for the itty bitty portion sizes that you get. While what you get is pretty tasty, I’m not sure I would pay $ 17 a plate for it. Also, make sure to bring cash for a tip — no place on the credit card slip to leave one!

We went here based on Unilocal reviews and to avoid the long summer lines that seem to be everywhere. We were welcomed and seated immediately and our drink orders were taken and quickly delivered, very good unsweetened ice tea. The food here is Calabash style seafood or broiled seafood. I had the regular sized fried platter which came with flounder, shrimp, oysters, deviled crab and scallops. Throw in hush puppies, slaw and a baked potato and it was a feast! My wife enjoyed a crab cake with broiled scallops all of which she enjoyed very much. It is a little off the beaten path and I an not giving up the location. This was a really nice place so give it a try the next time you are in town.

Go to Calabash, NC instead! This was NOT fresh local seafood. I honestly believe the scallops were leftover from the previous night and refried and re-served — way too dense and chewy, a sure sign of refrigeration. The shrimp tasted as though they were of the Asian pond-raised variety, tasteless. And the flounder appeared to come out of a Capt. Gordon box found in the frozen food section at your local grocery. Drive to Calabash and enjoy the real thing. I highly recommend Ella’s Restaurant.

I thought this place was great for basic seafood and value. Much better than the majority of seafood places in Myrtle. Don’t go for atmosphere but if you want great no-nonsense fried seafood I highly recommend

Steven’s Oyster Roast is, perhaps, the best Calabash-style seafood restaurant on the Grand Strand; it is certainly the best in North Myrtle Beach(and, quite frankly, better than any restaurant in Calabash, NC itself). Originally a locals’ place, Steven’s is becoming more popular with tourists due to positive word-of-mouth. I have eaten here many times, and have always been pleased with my meal. The Calabash-style seafood is nicely prepared, and as minimally greasy as Calabash seafood can be. I prefer the broiled selections, with the broiled flounder and popcorn shrimp combo($ 15.95) being my favorite. Likewise, the hushpuppies have a perfect texture and flavor(I even order extras to take home). The appetizer onion rings($ 3.95) are excellent, as well. On the downside, the baked potatoes and French fries are mediocre. The restaurant building itself is unadorned, and patrons are sometimes served on paper plates. Give Steven’s Oyster Roast a try, and you will go back again and again!
