Wine samples were delicious and generously poured. Staff and owner were beyond welcoming, I don’t think my husband and I stopped laughing during our visit. There was only 1 other couple inside with us, so it was almost a private tasting! Will definitely be here again!

This was a wonderful treat a long Greenville Road, in the Livermore Valley. Two labels combined in one lovely tasting room. Big White House and John Evan off for a wonderful tasting today of two whites, a Viognier and Roussane and then into a Sangiovese and into bigger red’s. We had a husband and wife pair who hosted our visits and shared wonderful insight into the wines, the winemaker(who happened to be there today) and the artwork on each label which happens to be done all by the winemaker sister. A wonderful stop along Greenville Road with a $ 10 tasting fee which is applied towards one bottle purchase, a great selection of wines in yet another picturesque setting in the Livermore Valley.

First time in the Livermore vineyards and visited Big White House with a group of cousins, one who is a club member. They opened early for us and we dove into the reds. I never thought I would find a cab better than Hagafen or Turnbull. But I found John Evan! John happened to be there(on a Saturday) and he chatted with us for some time. His sister’s artwork adorns the walls and even shows up on his labels. We brought our bottles to their picnic tables along with our cheese, produce and cold cuts and invited the staff and anyone else who was hungry to partake! It was the highlight of the day. Wine, atmosphere and people make this my new favorite.

First time going here and sad to say walked in an was refused service. They said our group was too large. I have never been turned away from a winery. Yes we had a large group but we came in different cars not a bus. Sorry to say I will never return.

My husband and I recently moved to Livermore and although we have been to the area for wine tasting before, we had only ventured out to the big named wineries. But you can find those wines at Costco and Safeway! We were on the hunt for a small family owned winery that we could be proud to be wine club members at. We’ve never been wine club members before, but we want to support a local Livermore winery. I liked BWH as soon as I read the description on the Livermore Valley Wine website. The«informal» and«intimate» experience was what attracted me. We went to a couple of other wineries on Greenville, but some had a pretentious attitude coughcoughmcgrailcough ;-) But as soon as we arrived at BWH I liked the calm, friendly vibe of the place. Everyone was so nice! We could tell they treat everyone like family. We also liked that their tasting offered at least 10 different wines at a very affordable tasting price… and affordable bottle prices as well. Most of the bottles were $ 24, $ 26, $ 28 and only one was $ 45. We were AMAZED when every wine we tried was delicious. Usually when we go to a place we don’t like at least one of the wines. We even got to drink straight from the barrel! I’ve never done that before! Now of course some wines were not my favorites, but none of them were bad! Everyone just has a different preference. So far we have purchased the BWH Roussanne, JEC Petite Sirah and the BWH Peche Mignon Champagne! I also love that the sister does all the artwork for the bottles! Each bottle is so unqiue, which is so much more fun than a consistant logo. Her work is beautiful and is showcased in the tasting room. I also love that she paints a lot of redheads! My husband and I are both redheads. I didn’t realize until I looked at Unilocal and Instagram that the BWH building actually used to be brown! It does seem strange that a place named Big White House didn’t actually have a big white house! So I believe within the month before we came they had recently revamped the outside. It is now painted white with awnings on both of the sides. Now the name makes sense! It is a Big White House! The patio area offers much more shade now and has many very inviting tables, benches and chairs. It overlooks the 3 Steve’s Vineyard. It feels secluded, quiet and private. We are actually planning on doing some photos for our holiday cards here! Needless to say we became members here. Not just of BWH, but we became double members with John Evan’s Cellars too! Everything was so amazing. We are really looking forward to receiving our first case. I’m so glad they are dog-friendly too, we will have to bring our dog Bury with us one day! We can’t wait to attend release parties and bring our friends and family for free tastings! We’re happy to be part of the BWH family!

Big White House has amazing wines at reasonable prices. I highly recommend joining their wine club. You get free tastings and discounts on their wines, plus they treat you like family. Forget going to the other wineries, their tasting more than provide you with a nice buzz. Service is always friendly and welcoming.

My favorite winery in the Livermore area! I was very happy when a dear colleague and now friend(of course, after inviting me to visit wonderful places with her) asked me to join her and one of her friends for a wine tasting hopping Sunday. She had never been at the Big White House and since she read was more on the indie side and on the cheap($ 5 for like 10 tastings that is a great deal!) we went there. It was a very hot Sunday but was super pleasant to be either inside, listening to the stories the wine makers(family owned, small) had to tell or outside, joining some ‘picnicquers’. It is a very cozy place, very homey and even the labels in the bottles were creation of the owner sister in law. The art decorating the walls was from the same artist and absolutely colorful(many depiction of artists and models and also family portraits in a romantic yet comic way). Loved the attention to detail, the courtesy of the people working there and the whole experience. A must try! My favorite wine was the sweet Ma Chérie.

Rolled up on this place and it’s nothing to look at. You’d expect maybe a big white house, but no. The building is ugly, the parking lot isnt surrounded by trees or fountains or anything to really admire. Inside they had like a sheet covering up a section of the room, which was tacky. The staff was friendly, which is why this place isn’t one star along with the large amount of wines. They also have some cool art, only charge $ 5, and are generous with the pours. But the wines are not good. Most of our group didn’t finish their tastings. Because the wine was unappealing, theyd fill up less than half our glasses for the next pour because the rest of our group was milking them. And they’d never come back with the same bottle. So some of our group missed mutiple wines completely. This place needs improvements.

Love Big White House! The owners and staff were really friend. The peach sparkling wine was amazing — bought a few bottles of that! The petite sirah is just as good as Concannon’s, if not better. We did a barrel tasting of the petite sirah and I bought half a case. So so good! Highly suggest coming to this little gem of a winery. You won’t be dissappointed.

Looooooove this place! If you’re tasting in Livermore, this place is a must! 10 tastings for $ 5 and they pour heavily! How could you not love this place? The winery is super casual, so if you want something fancy/Napa-ish, you may want to go elsewhere. OR do what we do, we usually come here and then visit the fancier wineries after. The staff is super friendly. The tasting room is pretty cute and if you go on a warm day you can picnic on their tables outside. Loooove ittttt!

FOURTHSTOP at the livermore valley harvest wine celebration: samples: bwh sangiovese — smooth red wine, not too tart duchetta(sp?) — a deeper red, a bit more tart, but with a slight sweet aftertaste bwh peche mignon — my favourite of the 3, cool, crisp, sparkling lots of fresh peach flavour(probably white peach) and the perfect ending to this trio of samples perks: +live music outside, compliments of a 5-man banjo band +outdoor patio seating, all of which was underneath an awning/tent to keep cool +food tent in the front, selling bbq ribs other: additional wine tasting inside the tasting room

Friendly staff at today’s Livermore Harvest Wine celebration. Nice location and band playing outside. Not much available unless you upgraded, but what we had was good. We will be back to try it again.

Ironically neither big nor white, it’s actually pretty small and very welcoming with a great selection of Wines. This was stop number 8 or 9 on our tour(yes, I lost count after about 6!) and had a great time with my girlfriend. The fee is $ 5 for tasting of roughly 8 Wines if I recall correctly. A lot of those Wines were straight from the barrel and I really enjoyed that in the middle of the room they had a table set up where you can play a game of ”Guess the Wine” based on a list of it’s properties. My senses must be heightened after a few drinks because I somehow manged to guess all of them right despite my slightly worse for wear state. All the staff were really friendly too and able to answer all of the questions thrown at them from the large amount of people that were there that day and they’re Dog friendly here too.

Just the two of us kinda day, so why not take off to our favorite winery in Livermore. John Evans if the most unpretentious winery your loafer will ever step in. The staff is beyond helpful, and they always have at least two«future» wines you can do barrel tasting, nd even order before they are bottled. Everybody at John Evans including himself will actually take the time to answer all your questions, and even have some shit chat with you over some sips. The Pêche Mignon Champagne is a show stopper when combined with Liquid Amber, literally we have taken multiple trips for this. When visiting yesterday we where told they where now out of Liquid Amber, but John Evans reassured us we could find something else to splash in our Champagne. He opened up a bottle that was not even on the tasting menu for us, The Late Harvest Syrah. Well when combined with the Peche Mignon, yes love it was amazing. Even though we had already met pleasure they recommended another combination. The next combination also exceeded what we wanted. We definitely left happy campers, and packed with our new goodie combos. John Evans is a great treat when your doing a little date in the country.

Another beautiful Spring day in the Livermore Valley so what better way to spend it than wine tasting? We love driving out to the end of the road and visiting ‘The Big White House’! LOL… its really isn’t big, white, or even a house so please don’t think you’re lost. We love the BWH and John Evans Cellars. The tasting room is very comfortable and not stuffy. Original oil paintings hang from the walls. The paintings are used for the labels that go on the bottles. The artist is the daughter and sister of the two ‘Johns’. Seems like talent runs throughout the family. Tasting fees are only five bucks which is applied to any wine purchase you make. For five bucks you usually get to try at least three straight from the barrel and usuall by John Evan himself. We had a great time talking with John and hearing his story about his first ‘secret’ crush at fifteen. He said he didn’t want his friends at LHS to know or they might have sipped all of his product. Fifteen year olds interested in sipping fine wine? Who knew. Our favorites on this visit were the barrel tastings and the Peche Mignon with Afternoon Delight. Yes the sparkling peach is really that good! You can also buy a bauble or two as they sell antique estate jewelry collected by John the Elder.
