Gotta give it up for Sweet Lorraine’s. I think they do a lot of things right and might be hurt by being in a hotel. Although it might give them a measure of safety considering how many restaurants really are in the area. The bartender was kind enough to give me a taste of a special they were working on for a catering event– black beans, basmati rice, misc. spices and a small plate of bite sized corn bread muffins as a bread plate. I went with the tenderloin salad since I had a big lunch. In retrospect, should have done a small house salad and went to bed. Big salad! 5 – 6 oz of beef. One of the medallions was overcooked, but the other was perfect. My only complaint was that the bartender put the everything in the side because she doesn’t like a hot steak on a cold and dressed salad. I’m fine with it and wouldn’t have minded it assembled. Other than that, good food, decent service and a price point the person who approves my expense report won’t balk at.

TERRIBLE — WHATHAPPENEDTOTHEFOODQUALITY! Had a carry-out of 4 items today — they should be ashamed of themselves to serve what they did. Was going to bring out-of-town guests there on Christmas Eve but had a change of plans — so glad about that. It would have been VERYEMBARRASSING to bring them to this place and be served the sub-standard food we received today. In the carryout today: 1. The greek pizza would BREAK/FRACTURE YOURTEETH(LITERALLY) — Also the basil/spinach on it was dried up and not fresh — so even though we threw out the inedible crust, I didn’t eat the toppings either.(took video) 2. The Barcelona paella was supposed to be served in baked acorn squash with fresh spinach(according to menu) — there was ½ slice acorn squash with lots of rice and NO spinach.(took pic!) 3. Pecan chicken with mustard sauce — there was NOMUSTARDSAUCEINORONIT.(took pic) 4. Roasted veggie quesadilla — more veggies in middle, sparse on outside.(took pic) HIGHPRICES&SUB-STANDARDFOOD!!! Whomever cooked the meal should be ASHAMED of themselves!

Bridgette At the bar is SO attentive and helpful! Available to help with what game was on, what food to order, and when I needed a refill — so great!

As I just mentioned in another review, I’m forever in search of places that serve local food. I went here with my dad, husband and sister to celebrate father’s day. Their food did not disappoint. I ordered a steak, but also tried my husband’s burger with pulled pork and my dad’s fish and chips. The atmosphere was nice, too. This place is pretty close to our house, so I’d like to make it back again.

I love going here! It’s hardly ever busy, always relaxed, and reliably good. Yes, the service is sometimes on the slower side, but the food makes it worth the wait. In particular, the Maple Cured Salmon is phenomenal — better than many high-end seafood restaurants. For dessert, the caramel-covered Scottish Pudding is wonderful. Also, they almost always have at least one item on their frequently rotating specials menu that is worth trying(particularly their soups). The wait staff is always friendly — completing the homey ambiance nicely.

A hotel bar restaurant is often not that exciting, but this one is a step up. The staff is great, and the food is always good. I have had many a good meals here while staying at the Marriott. Keep up the good work folks.

Met up here with a friend from school in the lobby of the Livonia Marriott. I knew she chose this place because she is vegetarian as I checked Unilocal to see what they have on their menu. I was pleased to see that they are not all vegetarian. They actually had some great beef, chicken, and fish choices. I had the quesadillas with chicken. They were really good. They come with a scoop of sour cream, guacamole, and some salsa. The waitress was very prompt and kept our drinks full. The food arrived quickly. We could have been out within thirty minutes if needed, but got caught up like friends and stayed for an hour. Having stayed in hotels many times for business, this looks like a great location for a restaurant with these variety of food choices. Another place to make visit with my daughter or wife.

Although the service was a bit less than desirable, our waiter –Mike– was a pleasure, attentive and knowledgeable about the restaurant even though he is new here. The menu is very full with a range of dishes. It took us forever to make a decision! Maple Cured Salmon is good if you like a sweet version. The desserts are to die for!!! We tried all of them!!! Crowd favorite was the Blueberry Lemon Bread Pudding followed closely by the Irish Pudding Cake! Excellent way to celebrate a birthday!!!

DON’T GOFORMOTHER’S DAYORLIKELYANYSUNDAYHOLIDAY! My review from 6 months ago was very positive. Wish I could say the same thing again. We were very disappointed. Price was up to nearly $ 40., with very few additions to the menu. Trying to get to certain sections of the buffet were nearly impossible without waiting 20 minutes in line. Walking with a plate and not bumping or being bumped by others was also very difficult. Our family came in from 3 states for this weekend and were enjoying visiting with each other«après buffet», when we were told that they needed the table… basically throwing us out. Not good customer relations! I can’t blame them for trying to maximize their revenue, but I can blame them for a very poor customer experience!

Along with bold illustrations, Virginia Woolf’s famous quote greets diners at Sweet Lorraine’s Café: One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. For hotel guests(the restaurant is located within Marriott’s), tucking into a good meal may well be a prelude to a good night’s sleep. For other guests, the creative and varied menu definitely made dining well a priority. Sweet corn muffin and dense focaccia, served with a chilled tomato basil sauce, were a welcomed start to the meal. Small corn kernels were a sweet touch in the bite-sized muffin, complementing the savory, herbed focaccia. I enjoyed the mild brie with crunchy pear quesadilla appetizer. Delicately-flavored, it was unexpectedly well paired with a bold, sweet and spicy red pepper sauce, as well as, sour cream, guacamole, and corn salsa. It definitely stood up to the meatier entrée that followed. Three generous-sized and tender beef medallions, cooked medium instead of the requested medium rare, sat on top of grilled French bread. They were liberally covered in melted cheese and a beefy-onion sauce. Flavorful! The broccoli and super sweet, chunky carrots offered a nice balance to the meal. Because of the huge portion sizes, there was more than enough food for dinner the next evening. And it left no room for dessert. A bit of a shame since the dessert tray definitely looked promising. The server was friendly and helpful. During the summer months, I would imagine that it would be relaxing to enjoy a meal within the charming walled patio that I spotted on the way out — just not now, covered as it was in inches of snow and ice.

Who knew that in the lobby of the Livonia Marriott I would find a restaurant like Sweet Lorraine’s? I went for breakfast as the hotel had given me a voucher since the concierge lounge was closed on the Saturday that I was there. I wasn’t sure what the voucher was for but the server told me I could have everything on the buffet including a custom made omelette. Well, okay, said I and I went up to the omelette station. The chef was missing…so Walter, the manager, started in on my omelette. He was a good sport taking my ribbing on the fact that he was a master of all trades, seating me and now cooking my breakfast. And even when Thomas, the real chef, showed up, Walter finished cooking me the perfect omelette and slipped it onto my plate with a smile. And just because they are so nice here, Thomas made some kind of a strawberry waffle for me that was definitely«calorie worthy» even if I could only take a couple of bites of it! Nothing like some friendly people who seemingly love what they do to start your day off right! Loved the food and the service. Who knows? I might even go back for breakfast on a morning when I am not staying in the hotel!

My wife and I tried this place last night. We had a coupon for $ 12 off of dinner for two and decided to try it out. I’ll begin by saying our waitress, Francis, was very good. She was attentive, pleasant, and nice. We both ordered $ 6 draft beers. We then ordered the Five Spice Calamari as a starter for $ 10. This tasted good. It was served with three sauces that had good flavor. We then each ordered our dinners. My wife ordered their Wedge Salad($ 3.95 w/entrée), and their southwest cheeseburger with jalapeños($ 10) w/sweet potato fries($ 2 up charge). I ordered their Avocado-Crab Cake sandwich($ 12) with regular fries($ 1 up charge). The meals were very good. We also each ordered two more $ 6 draft beers. It then came time to pay. Our bill totaled $ 69.64 and we presented the coupon for $ 12 off… This is where the dinner went bad. Our waitress advised us(apologetically) that she couldn’t give us the $ 12 off, as we hadn’t ordered«entrees». What? The coupon stated«$ 12 off with purchase of two dinner entrees and two beverages». We had just ordered $ 70 worth of food/drinks, but they would not honor their coupon? Keep in mind that there is not a section on their menu titled«Entrée», and that if we had apparently ordered two of their Mac & Cheese dishes off the«Main Course» portion of their menu for $ 14, we would have technically qualified for the $ 12 off coupon. I could absolutely see not honoring their coupon if we had ordered two $ 6 chicken strips meals off a kids menu, but when we had two full dinners, a salad, an appetizer, and a total of $ 24 in drinks? Despite the good food and pleasant service, we will not be returning.

I have been here a couple times and again just this past Monday. It was another reminder why to go to the Southfield location instead. This Sweet Lorraines just does not compare. The service was ok. Order came out wrong, took longer than expected to be attended to with the minimal amout of people in the restaurant and even the bread was very cold. Husband had the chicken ceasar wrap and said the was nothing chicken ceasar about it. Won’t go again. The Southfield location wins on service, food and ambiance.

On my first visit here I was with a large group(12) on a Sunday evening. We were pretty much just looking for a light bite to eat as it was later in the evening. Maybe that’s what set the tone with our waitress, the fact that there was a lot of soups and side salads ordered. I am not sure why, but I almost felt like we should be apologizing for taking up her time with a large table who just wanted a light post-theater bite. Having said that, would I go back again? Yes, totally. My appetizer was great and the side salad was very fresh. I liked the décor and the fact that it was somewhat classy and still laid back.

I’ve wanted to check this place out since I was dating my ex husband who used to live in plymouth; however we never did. To me it seemed like a breakfast restaurant, but I ended up getting a living social deal for dinner, so I finally decided to check it out. I wanted to love it, and tried to at first. I went on a Monday evening, and although there was only one other table of people there, and they seemed to be well staffed, the service was subpar at best. I ordered the steak medallion salad. I was initially concerned that all of the flavors in the salad would not marry well together, but I have found sometimes I can be surprised, so I tried it anyway. My initial thoughts turned out to be correct. The salad just had too much going on. The prices were also very high for what you get. My daughter had me bring her home a side of fries, and they were good but not $ 4 french fries. Other than that everything about the place was blah. Perhaps it’s better for breakfast.

One of the worst meals I’ve ever had. had heard of this and the Southfield location and was excited to try it. The restaurant is located inside the Marriott, and that should say a lot. It’s a hotel restaurant and generally hotel restaurants are not very good. This was no exception. My husband and I sat at the bar and quickly ordered a few drinks, beer for my husband, a cosmo for me. The cosmo was very good. I ordered the Zorba the Great Greek pizza. I think Zorba would be dissaspointed his name was associated with this bland, tough, salty piece of yuck. The thin crust could hardly be cut with a knife and was covered in a tomato pesto that would have been good if there were more on it. It was covered in a very generous amount of feta cheese, which I generally like, but I ended up scraping most of if off the three pieces I forced down. In addition, it had a sprinkling of kalmata olives on top. The olives were great, but only added to the overly salty dish. My husband ended up ordering the pot roast. His dish was also extremely tough. Like he mentioned, you can generally cut pot roast with a fork, but not at this place. He said that the mashed potatoes that came with the meal were good. The green beans were undercooked. Im hoping the Southfield location is better than this. I won’t be coming back.

We went for Sunday brunch and everything we had was delicious. The omelette from the omelette station was outstanding, thanks to a choice of just about anything you’d want to include. We then hit the entrée station where the choices included breakfast items such as eggs Benedict, quiche, bacon etc. or dinner entrees such as salmon, BBQ chicken, roasted vegetables and the like. I had the salmon, which was wonderful with the Asian glaze on it. My brunch companion commented that he loved the salmon too and thought the roasted vegetables were delicious. I was impressed by the antipasto-salad bar that had a lot of great choices. Including some nice Italian lunch meats such as Capaciolla, salami and prosciutto. Also available is a carving station with prime rib and ham, but we didn’t partake. We stopped at the dessert bar for a few strawberries with some delicious chocolate sauce and a teeny piece of very good Tiramisu. All of the fruit we tried was extraordinarily good for mid-winter, which is an indication of the care they put intro their food. Ok, so all of this cost $ 22.95 per person, but I don’t begrudge them that. Quality food comes at a price and I definitely feel they delivered. I highly recommend this brunch spot!

Eeek… Unless you drag me there, I will not go. But if you insist, I’ll go without the kicking and screaming. Being inside a hotel should have been my first clue that this was going to be a mediocre restaurant. But I wanted to give them a chance because I had people tell me it was good. And some restaurants can be surprisingly good. The bread they brought out was excellent. Delicious. However the ravioli I ordered looked very… well… it was as if the chef was out sick and a middle school kid had come in and decorated the plate with what they think looked nice. The ravioli was spread out well on the plate, the sauce also nicely placed on the ravioli, towards the center. But the good ends there. An orchid was placed in the middle. What a waste of an orchid! And then along the edge of the plate a spinach leaf and mushroom was laid out in a pattern. The picture was interesting but having watched enough of top chef among other cooking shows, I was semi appalled. My friend had an interesting sandwich, with apples in it. While the sandwich itself tasted okay, or so she said, the lettuce still had dirt on it! That was enough to turn me off. Fortunately we told the server, who brought over the manager, who took it off our bill. If you really want to change my mind about this place, send me a message and you can buy me lunch. I’ll even let you order their best dish. Maybe the second experience will be better. With that said, given the opportunity, I’ll happily try the branch in Southfield.

We went here after a friend had recommended it. At first we had trouble finding it because we did not realize it was in the Marriott and the sign for it is small. The ambiance is nice, especially given that its a hotel restaurant. We ordered the avocado crab cakes, which were okay, but we weren’t sure where the avocado part came in. We also ordered lunch entrees. My sandwich, an Eastern BLT with Granny Smith apples, was creative, and the sweet/tart aspect of the apples contrasted the BLT well. The sandwich came with homemade potato chips, which were alright. Unfortunately, after eating one half of the sandwich, I noticed part of the lettuce sticking out was covered in dirt! YUCK. I notified the waitress, who got her manager, who offered to comp the sandwich and bring something new. I was not interested in trying anything new after that! Eek!

I love the yummy food and the kind, caring waitresses and waiters! The Mgr. «Dave» is very nice also! The good is theeee best ever! Highly recommend !! We went with some friends for dinner and had a wonderful meal & a great time together! I do need to say that normally this restaurant is waay too expensive for our family budget. We don’t normally eat here but because we had a coupon, we decided to go with our friends who also had a coupon. The coupons were for one free entre’e up o $ 20.00! Otherwise we would not be choosing this restaurant because we can get good food, close to home, good service and all for ½ of the price of his restaurant! So, I must say that the waitstaff is really nice, the manager walks around and seems to care what people think and he or she talks to the customers. The food is always good but very overpriced and not enough quantity! There’s just not much food to fill your tummy! If you have the big money and a small appetite. This place s for you!
