We used to love this place, but not so much anymore!!! Went in and were told to sit anywhere. Then we were ignored by the two waitresses for at least 10 minutes. They proceeded to serve chips, drinks, and even food to people that came in after us. We left and they never said a thing.

This first time I ate El Maguey was at an afternoon luncheon at a friends home. It was their tamales and they were very good with a nice green sauce. The beans and rice were also good. Since we are always looking for a good Mexican food restaurant I thought I’d take the hubby here… well it was just OK. No flavor in the dishes we ordered. I thought the spinach enchilada was good but it just seemed everything tasted the same. We may be back to try the tamales and see if it gets a little better, maybe we were there on a «off» night because everyone else seems to love it there… we may give it another try in the future but try something else… oh no beer, just non alcohol drinks. We like beer with our Mexican dinner :-(the staff was extremely nice and helpful and it’s very clean.

The BEST fresh, consistently good Mexican food. Not much on atmosphere but huge on flavor and freshness. Crazy good chicken soup, soft tacos and burritos

I saw some good reviews on Unilocal and decided to try it out. Long story short. maybe we were there at a wrong time but the service was pretty bad. Seriously. it was my first time there and I probably won’t go back as there is enough decent mexican food in Lodi. Their Mexico city tacos were ok but even on Cherokee lane in Lodi you will find similar food with better service and a nicer ambiance. Not really worth my time or money… as it was quite expensive for what it was.

My favorite place to go for tacos! The Mexico City tacos are amazing! I came here 2 – 3 times a week for a few months when I first found this place.

At first I was skeptical to try this place, and I was pleasantly surprised, the food is delicious! The chips are super good and fresh, they bring two different types of salsa, both are fresh and they make themselves I think! I get the chimichanga with shredded beef, I was impressed with how tender the beef was! The staff and very friendly as well! Def give it a try!!! Worth it!

This used to be my favorite place. Last night I had Chilie Verde with exactly 10 small cubes of meat for a lot of money. Brought the wrong tortillas, & when I got the right ones, the top one had old guacamole smeared on it & a corner had been dipped in boiling oil, or something. The bathroom had a sign that said Do Not Flush Toilet Paper & a big wastebasket filled with it.

Love this place. Great for quick lunch if needed, but go before the rush. Food is always great, salsa is wonderful. Taco salads are huge. It’s a small place so there isn’t a big staff on hand, so when busy it can take an extra few min, but the staff is fast and friendly. I come by often!

Tried this place on the fly once & loved it! Mexican food is our fall back when we don’t agree on something else. This place has some extremely yummy tacos. The portion sizes are perfect for me. Service is usually good but if they get busy, they sometimes forget to bring the bill. The atmosphere is cozy but when the air conditioner is running, it can be loud. All & all… a great little place to eat.

It’s a seat where you like, kinda place. Relaxed atmosphere, servers were very friendly. Warm Chips and salsa were the table appetizer and we loved the salsa. Ordered the enchiladas trios with half white and half red sauce. Quite delicious and did not find the white sauce over powering the red. I could do without the cheese enchilada portion as it’s not my normal go to. I enjoyed the beef and chicken though. Overall a very pleasant experience.

You know I love my Mexican food all day every day! Discovered this restaurant randomly since I didn’t want to eat at Panera. Good thing! This place is golden! Great portions, wonderful customer service! In addition, the food is delicious. I had a carnitas taco salad with everything on it and also fish tacos. I was able to eat half my salad and one fish taco. The food was very tasty and they make their own salad dressing which is very yummy! I will definitely be eating here again soon. Happy eating! Toodles~

Pros: Ordered the combo fajitas, comes with rice and beans sour cream and guacamole, would of liked to see more fajita sides other than sour cream and guac. But the flavor was good. Cheese quesadilla dinner is huge! My son loved all the cheese! Child’s quesadilla is a regular size tortilla with cheese and served with fries. All the food was good and service was good. The gravy and cheese is extra but chips come with two types of salsa both good but no heat. Cons: Only 3 tortilla’s brought to the table so we asked for more to go with the fajitas and did not know we would be charged $ 1.29 until the bill came. Also asked for a little bit of cheese to go on the fajitas and again a $ 1.29 added to the bill. Total bill $ 41.00 plus tip for 3 meals, 1 being a kids meal and 2 sodas. Just wish they wouldn’t charge for things you would assume would come with the meal.

Amazing services and great food! Came in and spoke to Gabby about ordering for a party of 10 to-go. Gabby and the staff were so helpful and super sweet. Ordered two dozens of mixed tacos, beef and chicken enchiladas, rice, beans and chips/salsa. Everyone in the office couldn’t believe they’ve never been to this place. The spicy al pastor was very flavorful. The carne asada could have used a lil bit of that spice but still good. I snuck a horchata in there and no regrets. Not an overwhelming cinnamon taste. Just a tad sweet but with diluted ice it was perfect.

Best Mexican food in Lodi. Sometimes the look closed but they are just dimly lit which makes a nice ambiance. The tortilla soup is amazing. Get it every time I go as an appetizer. As for main course: Chile Relleno, chicken enchiladas, or steak fajitas! My goodness… getting hungry. The customer service is the best too. Always a smile and they try to remember you and your meal so they offer it when you come back. Will be back…

I love this place. The salsa is excellent! The chunky looking one is my favorite. The staff is very nice and the food is great. My husband and I love the California Chicken entrée. It is basically rice covered in delicious cheese and chicken with a side of tortillas. The flavor is amazing. The Mexico Tacos are bomb too! I get one taco and the plate is so pretty. The tortillas are perfect. They are the best tacos. I highly recommend this place.

Atmosphere– small location. Employees– dumb as a box of rocks. One rude as waitress spilled salsa on my sons jeans and white shoes. She is lucky I didn’t hit her because she didn’t even apologize! Food– where shall I start? 8 of us dined here and the waitress looked like she saw a ghost when we came in. She didn’t even know what to do. I can only assume she never had waited on a group of 8. We ordered our drinks first. My daughter ordered a strawberry shake and a water. The water was sink tap water– totally gross! And her milkshake was okay. To say the least. Now my son ordered ground beef tacos. The ground beef was more like mushy meat that was boiling for days on ends. He didn’t like it at all. This type of ground beef is not for tacos or enchiladas. My other son ordered the Mexican enchiladas. Same ground beef– nasty. I ordered carnitas. It came in small hard chunks that looked more like dog food. My side of rice and beans were cold and the rice had black hair in it. Food had no flavor. Price– too damn pricey for this gross food! Never again will we be back! We like La Victoria on Hammer Lane next to Michaels! All in all the bill was really high and food was disgusting.

Eh. I had the sombrero taco salad. It was fresh but everything was heavily UNDER seasoned. Virtually zero salt. The dressing was good. It was hotter than dickens I’m there until last minute that they turned on the AC. It was a bit cramped. The ambiance wasn’t all that great. The salsas also weren’t very impressive.

Full disclosure– I’m from Sacramento & have never actually been here however; I was reading my Celebrity Weekly when I came across a story that reads; «VIP Scene *Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis stopping for lunch at El Maguey with Daughter Wyatt, 9 months, while honeymooning in Lodi California.» If this place is good enough for them… & who knew Lodi was a celebrity honeymoon destination.
