Have dined there twice — great interesting pizza, great outside seating, a bit noisy inside but fun

My wife took me here. Can’t believe someone hadn’t thought of this before! This is a must try place. Don’t forget to add the balsamic sauce!

Was recommended by a friend to go here and definitely did not regret it. I came here expecting it to be another pieology-like place, but I can see why this was unique. The dough they used for the pizza was way better than normal pizza places — it stayed crunchy the whole time(and I’m normally a slow eater). The restaurant gave off a very home-y vibe and you could tell it was a family-run business. I got the Hawaiian pizza and my boyfriend made his own pizza with pretty much everything on it. Both were delish. The only downside was that it was very noisy and slightly unkempt and messy but that could’ve just been that day because the whole place was crowded with kids. And the other thing was that sauce was unlimited on the pizza, but not after. Which didn’t make that much sense to me. But all in all, great pizza place!

I love Smack Pie Pizza. I get what I want and my husband gets what he wants. I’ve tried several of their signature pizzas and they are yummy. You can customize your pizza however you want it. The ingredients are fresh and the crust is crispy but not hard. We hit Smack Pie every time we go to Lodi now. A definite yes!

This place was super delicious. We got the build your own pizza. I love that I can choose all the veggies I want. They were out of spinach so I was sad about that. But the best part was the choose a finishing sauce at the end. Great variety, like Chipotle, balsamic, garlic, ranch… so many more. They squeeze a little over your pizza. Just the right touch. The greatest part about this place was the customer service. Everyone was really friendly and kind and made a point to talk to you. I really like the wall they had that says«take a little of what you need» and it has baskets full of things like courage, hope, love, patience etc. Really a nice gesture.

We’ve been going to Smack Pie since it opened, and the last few times I’ve been terribly disappointed, mostly with the poor customer service. I keep giving it another shot because my 4-year old daughter really likes the food, but after tonight it’ll be a while before we go back again. It wasn’t super busy when we got there, but with just her, I couldn’t leave her at a table by herself. So we had major issues getting a table, to the point that our pizza was ready and we’d been buzzed on our pager several times and the girl was shouting for us several times. So I finally walked over to tell her we were waiting for a table to sit down at(with my hands already full of our salad and drinks) and she could stop shouting for us, the table we were waiting for cleared out, and someone else from the line jumped on it. Every time we go on a Friday evening or without an extra person, we have this problem. One time the owner told me to bring a blanket to reserve a table. Tonight she seemed to pretend she didn’t see me watching and waiting for an open table. And tonight one table was marked«Reserved» the entire time we were there, so nobody could use it, and absolutely nobody sat there the entire time. I’m not sure how you get to reserve a table, but I’d love to find out. Then there’s the issue of the rude staff. Most of them are not very friendly, including the owner who could care less if you have a problem. A few visits ago I talked to her on the phone about an issue with the Smack Pack and manager I’d had the night before, and she was just as rude as her manager was the night before when I was in. She doesn’t seem to care about pleasing the customers. The other annoying factor more recently is the amount of ingredients they put on your pizzas. It used to be a pretty good amount of the toppings, but tonight I ordered a kids pizza with 2 toppings and a build your own regular pizza. My daughter wanted salami and pineapple. I know they charge extra for more than 1 topping on the kids pizza, but literally she got 2 pieces of salami(that were cut in ½ to make 4 pieces) and maybe 3 little chunks of pineapple per piece of pizza. The 8″ pizza was maybe 6″ max, where the 8″ used to be a true 8″ pizza when we first started going there. And lastly, when my 4-year old looks at me about 20 mins into eating and says, «Mommy I want to go home and finish eating there; it’s too loud in here,» and I couldn’t agree more, we were done. By the time we were ready to leave, it was pretty busy, so there was a lot going on, but then the music should be turned down a bit. It seemed as though people were talking louder than usual to compete with the music playing on the speakers or other people being loud. It is disappointing because we really do like the food, but the service and seating is terrible.

The create your own pie option is great! I order the same pizza every time. Red sauce. Cheese. Pepperoni. Sausage. Bacon. Pineapples! I’m never afraid to ask for a little extra on the toppings because sometimes they won’t give you much. But the taste is phenomenal! I’ve never had an issue going there! I would recommend for people to at least give it a try! Btw I always found it weird that they charge extra for ranch on the side but it’s free too add it on top but it forces me to eat the whole pizza right then and sometimes I want to save it but I can’t

I havnt been here in a while and it sure has changed for the worse. The prices are already somewhat high for what you get. Today I came here and my pizza had a small handful of cheese that was so small it didnt even cover the pizza. Obviously I asked for more cheese but was told it would be another $ 1.are you kidding me!!! I almost snapped and walked out but I didnt. Price gouging on stupid things like this is what pisses people off enough to never come back… see you never smack pie.

Beware if you ask for everything on your pizza. They get quite rude and lecture you that it may not cook right. I also got the guy shrugging his shoulders at me over it and he was throwing stuff around after that. I was very polite. An appropriate response to that would of been; «We have to go light on the toppings so it will cook all the way». I called in and the manager was very rude as well. I love this place. I will still return because I love it. I would like a response on the issue. Please.

Good taste, but the sizes are all over the place! And they are VERY skimpy with their toppings! I ordered 3 adult build your own &1 Child pepperoni… The child size was about 5″ NOT8″ & one of our adult 11“s was about 8″ & our other two were about 9−10″… They are skimping BIG time and charge more than other comparable restaurants…

All good except they charge 50 cents for a small side of ranch! I could understand if it was more than one!

Great customer service, great food, and great atmosphere. My favorite place out of both Lodi and Stockton to eat pizza! I recommend the smack pack, comes with pizza salad and drink for like $ 12. I share with my husband and it’s enough. Plus-building your own pizza is so much fun!!!

I’ve been frequently coming here since this location opened back in 2013. I remember when it first opened, there were lines out the door in the evenings for the first few months. Everyone in town was giving this place a try. I didn’t leave disappointed either. I was hooked the moment I tried it out. I like they have the Pieology/Blaze concept. I’m not driving 45 – 55 miles out to visit a Pielogy or a Blaze Pizza when I can get a custom pie here in the next town over. I have taken so many photos over my visits of the pizzas made here. There’s rarely a consistency on how it looks, but the flavor is pretty much consistent all around the board. It’s given to you and cut immediately out of the oven. The pizza comes out steaming hot and your wait inline combined with you having wait to sink your teeth into it ups your level of anticipation and expectation of the taste. Don’t worry, won’t disappoint. I remember being fearful in Smack Pie’s early days. It was all about a matter of timing the pizza to be perfectly cooked. The employees timing the pizza trying to find a good baseline of when to pull it out failed a couple times and we ended up getting semi-undercooked food, or the bottom would be burned to hell. These guys have perfected their cooking times to where the pizza is never undercooked, or overcooked. Haven’t really had any terrible experiences here with the staff. You may run into 1 or 2 that look exhausted or bored doing the same all day toward the end of their shift. I haven’t had anyone disrespect me or make me feel unwelcome either. If I had to complain at all(I can hear people saying, ‘oh you don’t have to), the wait times on a busy day get pretty crazy. The end of the line gets to a point where everyones crowded around the entrance to the place and the line won’t move for 5 – 10 minutes. It makes sense that there’d be a long line though because the food here is good. Everyone is just as hungry as you and it’s worth the wait. Very happy to see this place growing and expanding how they do business. They’ve added a Reward System that can be redeemed at checkout. Every 10th Pizza is free(give them your phone #). They’ve also added pagers/buzzers, which are modern enough when you’re waiting for your name to be called at a place. They even have an online ordering option if you want to skip waiting and order + pay ahead a time. They’ve always offered a local wine list which is great. Even if I hear from my girl that they need to top the glass off(haha). This place stays up to date on their social media pages which is likely headed by their high school staff they have hired here. I can’t wait for this place to expand outward. I’m not going to argue they open one here in Stockton. I’m sure the owners know better than that. It’s risky & competitive expanding to the Sacramento Area where Pieology and Blaze pizza have been well established as go to build your own pizza joints. If you guys have any plans on expanding I can tell if it can produce the same quality of the food, it’ll do good. This place is something special in my eyes!

Love it here! We really like that we can pick your own toppings, the brick oven always makes the pizza taste so good & is just fun to come here. When they first opened they were very generous on their portions for toppings, but now, it’s hit or miss with which worker you get. Example — I just love jalapeños and I know it’s not the most expensive topping. so I admit, sometimes I give that look of, «are you serious, that’s it?!» Lol it’s not like I’m asking for extra artichoke or steak. I just want jalapeños! My family always gets different things from the build your own, buffalo to the bbq pizzas. We’re always happy with how pizzas turn out and it doesn’t break the bank. It’s a fun place to hang out with family and/or frienda. It’s nice that it’s on school and I enjoy the patio area too. I’m always going to be a repeating customer!

We were wandering around downtown Lodi looking to grab a little chow and a cold brew. Group decided on Smack Pie. I like the build your own concept but they must cringe when people lean over the glass to point at the ingredients. Seriously, don’t you think you can say tomato and they will know what you mean… must you point… Any way, the staff was quite friendly and helpful. Ordered a pizza to split with most everything on it. They have several beers on tap including Blue Moon. We grabbed an outside table and shortly our pagers went off signaling our pizza was ready. Pizza was cooked perfectly and tasty. Went perfect with the ice cold Blue Moon. Process seemed organized and efficient. If you are on your first visit, pause to survey your surroundings, the process and the ingredients. Choose your crust, sauce, cheese, meat and toppings. You will find pretty much everything you would ever like to see on a pizza available. The process is not unlike Chipotle except for pizza. You can choose as much or little as you want. Take a couple deep breaths and go for it. Enjoy.

Very clean and fun store. Upon entrance is where you order either a custom pizza or an already designed one. Lots of choices from sauces, meats, and toppings. The pizza is a size big enough for two people to share. The crust comes out semi thin and super crunchy, just how I like it! There’s both inside and outside seating and it’s very spacious.

I love the concept of all these chipotle style pizza places and had smack pie bookmarked for quite some time now. I made the effort to come here for lunch today. My bf really wanted Lodi beer company but, since we haven’t tried any build your own pizza places, I thought smack pie sounded like such a great idea. To my surprise, they weren’t packed for lunch time. According to Unilocal, they’re usually packed for lunch and are very good at accommodating first timers. Reading that they’re great at accommodating first timers gave me some sort of expectation that their customer service was going to be great. I was wrong. We weren’t greeted like everyone else who walked in after us, we weren’t asked what kind of crust we’d like, after telling them we were first timers they just ignored us and didn’t explain how things worked, and some employees were extremely rude when we asked questions. I wanted to give this place at least 4 stars since the pizza was delicious, however the cons outweighed the one pro. I’m hoping the customer service improves, if not then I won’t be back especially since they’re are so many new build your own pizza places opening up closer to home.
