Excellent food and desserts with a great cozy atmosphere. Worth a stop if you are traveling up 101 or in the Eureka area.

Loleta Bakery has closed down. I just wanted to save people a drive down there and disappointment.

Still stop here every time I pass through. It is about one minute off of highway 101 and totally worth the diversion. Coffee and pastries taste great, but are actually healthy. We like to pick up loaves of bread wrapped in parchment, tied with string to take to friends in the Bay Area. Great food and gift. Chocolate bread is over-the-top, but the other breads are among the best.

Stopped by with my girlfriend on a whim and glad we did. I had the turkey sandwich which I thought was a bit expensive but when it came it was huge and amazing with an excellent side salad. My girlfriend got the quiche which was very good as well. Desserts were fabulous too. The servers were polite and attentive. Definitely going back!

Loleta is not what you would call a «destination town.» I’m not even sure you can call it a «town.» But if you’ve skipped Loleta because, well, it’s Loleta, you are a fool: the Loleta Cheese Factory *alone* is worth your trip. But now Loleta has sprouted ANOTHER sign of life(no offense to the many cows): the Loleta Bakery. The baking here is FANtastic, and they have a variety of amazingly yummy baked goods– their desserts are second-to-none(my mother swears by – and about – their lemon tart), and their bread is the highest quality. They also have a wide selection of teas, etc., making it a great place to stop for a snack/coffee/etc. They also have lunch food, but I can’t be bothered: I’m stuffing my mouth with croissants, muffins, pie, and tarts.

I’m beyond impressed. This is by far the best bakery I’ve been in. The staff, coffee, tea, pastries and lunch! It’s so perfect.

My husband and I stopped by Loleta on our way out of Ferndale last Sunday morning to share a coffee with some friends of ours that live up there. I got a zebra mocha and the hubby got a hot chocolate with a shot of vanilla. Our drinks were delicious, and they were cheap! Service was a little to be desired, but what can you expect from such a tiny city with laid back cashiers not used to serving patrons of the daily Starbucks grind? I forgive them for that. My only regret is that I did not order a chocolate croissant. When we head up next Thanksgiving, I’m going to order everyone in the family a pastry so they may experience this place, too.

Just got back from lunch here… and it was great! They hand write their menu(daily, I think) and you can see that everything they make was made fresh. I had their roast beef sandwich with the creamy tomato soup… delicious! Everything was packed with flavor and even the little portion of salad that it came with, was freshly tossed and tasted terrific. I’m so glad that I got to stop by and eat here. Other people that I have talked to tells me that they have never been dissapointed eating here, and I totally can see why. Everyone at the restaurant was super friendly and you really feel welcomed and almost if you were at grandma’s house… you know that kind of feeling? I took home a slice of blueberry pie and I can’t wait to try it later. Hey! Maybe you guys can come to L.A. and open up a shop too! Good job on doing food right! Keep up the great work! P.S…on a side note… your neighbor’s dog is REALLYLOUD. Maybe this isn’t so good for the diners sitting outside.

Unilocal and their website say they open at 7 on Sunday. I thought that was odd for a Sunday, but if they are a decent bakery they are probably there early every day they are open. We drove up at 8 am this morning(Sunday). All the lights are off. Sign says closed. Very disapointed as I am not in the area often. Wanted to try the coffee, breakfast and buy bread to take home and share…

I’m addicted to the Chocolate Bread from Loleta Bakery(which shows up in my town, at Chautauqua Natural Foods in Garberville, sometimes).(not often enough to make me gain the hundred pounds I would gain if I were to subsist on this delicious bread). So yesterday, hooray, I made it to the actual bakery in the actual(very tiny) town of Loleta. There was no chocolate bread. They make chocolate bread on Friday. The very nice guy at the counter said that if I knew I’d be in town on a Friday I could call ahead and they would reserve a loaf for me(or, presumably, twenty loaves). We were on a pretty strict schedule so I couldn’t dally for tea or coffee and munchies, but I am sure that such things are delicious. What there was on hand was a pile of day old bread(oh, there were also very delicious looking things in the bakery case. I probably should have taken the last piece of chocolate cake). The two sorts were a multigrain healthy seeming bread and… Portuguese Sweet Bread. Well, hey, when I’m away from home I do not believe in being all strict and healthy. Not in the least. So of course I bought a loaf(a round, pillowy, flour dusted loaf) of the sweet bread. It cost me 3.00. What you have to know is that I am willing to pay the asking price of that chocolate bread in town(something close to 8 or 9 dollars for a loaf). Three Dollars. Still soft, sweet, delicious. It reminds me a bit of the bread Brio used to bake that had candied fruit in it(something or another holiday bread; haven’t seen it for years). But without those glacé chunks. Sweet, a mild lemon flavor(I think). So nice. For the rest of our trip my son and I just pulled handfuls of bread off the loaf and stuffed our happy drooling mouths.

Situated in the adorable, quaint town of Loleta this bustling bakery is worth paying a visit. The Texas pecan bar was good. I’d love to visit this town again and try more of the baked goods!

I love everything about this place except that its a bit far from where I live… although perhaps even that is good, as it prevents me for overdoing it! Best Macaroon on the planet… best pot of tea in Humboldt County… excellent sandwiches, soup, etc. A great place to spend a rainy day… or take a date… or pretend you’re living in the movie Pride and Prejudice.

The only bakery to go to in the state of california. Starting with organic ingredients, then some expertise, and finally wonderful atmosphere & fabulous customer service. Lemon Tarts — on wednesday, but only and unless she has enough fresh eggs — these are to die for, last meal must, absolutely a bucket list item. There’s no overstating this understated little bakery hiding in the hills of Loleta — none. There’s no competition, either. Must Have — Must Go

I had lunch at the Loleta Bakery while visiting my mother over Thanksgiving. She raves about the place, and, holy cow, now I know why. When we arrived, everyone was so welcoming and gracious(although I should note that my mother tends to know everyone by name wherever she goes… and they all love her. How could they not?). Madalenne(Mom) knows to beat the rush, so we were there in time to snag a lovely table by the window. She got the open-faced egg salad on toast, and I got the quiche, which that day had, to the best of my recollection, sweet potato and onion as primary ingredients; it was served with a nice green side salad. Now, I love quiche, and will generally order it if it’s on the menu and doesn’t have something in it that I find repellent. Until the day I visited the Loleta Bakery, my favorite quiche was at the late, great Bistro 110 in Chicago. Loleta Bakery’s quiche is my new #1. The veggies were properly cooked, the texture nicely custard-y, the crust light and flaky. I was in quiche heaven. Suffice it to say that I ate that same quiche for brekkie for the next two days.(Two pieces to go for $ 10…best value EVER.) The egg salad plate is so generous that Mom couldn’t finish it, but guess what? I could. Finely chopped egg, just the right amount of mayo, on nice crispy toast. It was unusually delicious for a dish that I’ve had many times. I can see why Mom orders this regularly. On the way out, in addition to picking up my extra quiche, I got a chocolate chip cookie. As is the case with quiche, I will humbly declare myself an EXPERT on chocolate chip cookies, and I am unspeakably particular. I ate the cookie later at Mom’s house, and savored every last bite. SOGOOD. And while I can understand the bakery being closed the day after Thanksgiving, I was saddened because I reallllllly wanted more cookies to take on my trip home on Saturday. I wanted to order everything: Texas pecan bars, orange chocolate chip scones, Bourbon Pecan pie, Chocolate Cream pie, every single type of bread. I love my Mom, but I’m pretty sure the next time I drive down from Seattle, it will mostly be to eat at the Loleta Bakery. Just don’t tell Madalenne, ok?

You must try this bakery. You won’t be disappointed. A friend of mine and I decided to meet up in Eureka, CA. for a weekend. Both being from Montana and both just happened to be in the same area. The next morning we were looking for a bakery/café to get something for breakfast and something we could take to the beach with us later that day. We were dumbfounded that we found this bakery and so grateful. Not only did we get food that day, we came back the next day as well. Once you find something you enjoy, it’s hard to go anywhere else. The one tough thing was seating. Just not enough room for all your loyal customers and new fans.

And for my 900th review, a little slice of home… We dropped into the Bakery after our much-enjoyed visit to the Cheese Factory. I ordered a roll because their bread smelled fantastic and got a little cup of butter to go with which was incredibly delicious. The little one got a small hot chocolate which they adorned with a straw for her drinking pleasure. Fabulous little shop and definitely worth the childhood reminder as we walked past the meat shop a few doors down my mother used for all her meat buys. Mmm, home.

We stopped in here whilst visiting Loleta primarily for the cheese factory across the street. We only ordered a couple of small things — cookies, macaroons, etc. The food was good. The place was packed when we arrived, with no empty seats available. It seemed like there were a lot of locals there enjoying coffee and brunch at the time. There were 4 Highway Patrol officers eating around a table outside, which made me happy because that was 4 less Highway Patrol officers for me to encounter on the highway. Loleta is a tiny town with only a handful of businesses on the main street, but it has a cozy, relaxed, very laid-back feel. There was also a 3-legged dog hopping around Main St, which appeared to be a member of the community without having an actual owner. My only complaint about the Loleta Bakery was that the owner/server seemed irritated that we were only ordering a handful of small items. I am willing to accept a little upselling, but she wouldn’t stop. She was quite insistant that we needed to buy something else. I don’t need to be asked«are you sure?» six times before being allowed to pay for my purchase. If you come to Loleta, don’t miss the cheese factory!

OMG, the bread pudding. I would dire without this place. Can they make a gluten free option? They should. But, for now, who cares cause this one is super good.
