My girlfriends and I had a fabulous time at the Pop-up Coloring Party last night! It was the perfect mid-week break we all needed. Wine and beer were supplied by Art Life and we were able to bring in Brick’s pizzas and salads to nosh on while we chatted and colored to our hearts content. I’ve been to other BYOB paint nights at other establishments previously but really enjoyed that Art Life supplied tasty wine and that it was less messy to color with markers, colored pencils, or gel pens. An added bonus — they had hilarious«sweary» coloring pages to choose from so it really felt like a form of therapy to sit and color while letting out a little aggression. I didn’t have a chance to really peruse the real art that was on display but from what I saw, there were cool, original pieces made by local artists. I know I’ll be back soon so I will definitely be checking these out in more detail.

After receiving a gift of a gorgeous hand-painted wine glass from this relatively new gallery & studio in Lombard, I was curious to see what it all entailed. Run by artist and director, Emily, she arranges group parties with everything from the paint, the wine, the food and instruction. It’s a cool idea, and while a similar type gig has been popping up all over Chicago and burbs, this gallery also offers some artistic items for the home, for sale, along with organized classes and parties. Since I’m classically inartistic, I think I’ll remain an owner of other people’s art, as the wine glass I received(from a friend who is artistically trained well before venturing into this gallery) is lovely and artistic. For all those who can draw a straight line and doodle properly, this place has all the fixings to make a cool piece of art!
