This review is based on pharmacy efficiency, not friendliness of staff. Friendliness of staff is average, efficiency is below par. I used to work at the Osco Drug in Elburn, and I think that has made me overeducated about the workings of pharmacies. I loved working at the pharmacy and only quit because I began PA school. I really want to like the pharmacy because i have such great ties to Osco Drug in Elburn. The staff in Elburn are fantastic and well-trained. I want to support Jewel-Osco because I know so many great pharmacists and techs that work for the company. However, I do not feel that way about this particular pharmacy. I’ve only had 2 interactions, but neither has been positive. The first was picking up a prescription. It took 15 minutes. There were only 2 people working in the pharmacy and only 2 people in front of me. 3 people in line is usually ok if there is only one pharmacy tech working. Except the first person in line was having insurance complications. However, the pharmacist never came over to help, so the rest of us just stood in line and waited. I realize 15 minutes isn’t so great in the grand scheme of things(I probably would’ve wasted it on Facebook or elsewhere, but whatever). When I finally got up to the counter, it was quick, though. The second interaction was on the phone. The tech seemed friendly, though not well-trained. I was on the phone for 10 minutes just to transfer 2 prescriptions. She should’ve just taken down my prescription number and my phone number in case there were any problems. It should’ve only taken 3 minutes max. Instead, I sat on the phone(not on hold, I could hear shuffling of papers and her talking to the pharmacist) for 10 minutes while she figured it out. She did finally put me on hold to ask the pharmacist a question. The pharmacist called me back stating that they would need to order it for the next day. I’m not surprised and the pharmacist seemed very friendly and knowledgable, to be expected. I guess it’s just a toss up of who you get.

Osco’s staff is so friendly, and they pretend they don’t know me even though I pick up prescriptions at least once a week. That is FINE by me. There is not much I hate more than when someone recongnizes me and tries be funny by saying something like«Back again!» or if I’m paying by credit card, they’ll remember my name and give me a «Hey Leslie.» These seemingly small social interactions really bother me and usually deter me from ever going to the same place again. This happened at Panera, one of my favorite places, and I had to switch to a different location. I know I know, I have a problem. I’m well aware. Somehow, Osco pharmacy knows me very well(maybe from all the drugs I’m on) and never try to be cute and funny. Thank God. I’ll never get a «Hey how is your respiratory system?» Or, «Leslie, is it time again to shed your uterine lining?» They just somehow understand this isn’t acceptable.
