Best clam Chowder in Washington. The bread bowl was fantastic. This place gets a 10 out of 10. It’s a small place and really has limited seating but you can sit in the little park next door. The fish is very very good and very large portions. The Cole slaw was fantastic also!

Had a cup of clam chowder and a crab roll. Both were great, and I lived in Boston for a time, so I know my chowda’! My husband had a fish sandwich with fries. Fries were just plain, boring fries, but the fried fish sandwich was a star. So many times fried fish is too oily. This fish was perfect — not oily at all, but with good flavor. Batter was also flavorful. Not many places to sit, and limited menu, but the 8 – 10 items on the menu have obviously been honed over time to be the best of a small selection instead of a large, mediocre selection. Other reviewers remarked they thought it was unsanitary. I didn’t see this. Everything looked clean. The kitchen has no walls to divide from the seating area, so you’d really notice if anything dirty was happening. Gloves were worn when making food and removed to handle money. Staff was chipper and helpful.

We were going to try the chowder and fish and fish, but as we got there, either the owner or worker was sitting outside smoking. A big big turn off, so we passed. Too bad, since the reviews seem positive! But we did find a nice place later. Updated to 3 stars just to be neutral since we got a response from the manager. She didn’t say anything about changing their smoking policy for workers tho. We really wanted to go in but the smoker turned us off! Stinky clothes, stinky hands… Ugh.

I had a pretty good idea of what Captain Bobs Chowder would be based on the pictures and their website. However upon arriving I found they had extended their menu and raised their prices. I was expecting a small, coastal restaurant that was low budget and low priced. $ 7 for chowder in a bread bowl sounded like a great deal, but seemed right for the plastic spoon I would be eating it with. Once there the price for breadbowl was $ 8.95, not a huge difference but the entire menu had increased, and now what was supposed to be a cheap quick lunch ended up as only quick. The staff was friendly, and the chowder was pretty good. It was likely the thickest chowder I have ever had, even accounting for the breadbowl.

We shared a 2pc cod and chips and it was plenty for the wife and I. And it tasted so good. Wish I could have tried the clam chowder. Don’t let the fact the place is small deter you. Get it to go and walk to the beach or back to the hotel. And the owners are super friendly and fast.

Another example of unbelievably poor service. Long Beach seems to be full of restaurants with poor customer service. This place has A waitress who puts on one servers glove and then uses her bare hand to put food on your plate and pick up silverware for you! All you can say is «See ya!» They weren’t even busy. But clearly over their head as restaurant owners

Best clam chowder I think I’ve ever had! It seemed a little salty on the first taste but that went away fast and the balance of flavors was perfect, as was the consistency — clam chowder is usually super thick and gooey or too thin, but this was just right, and lots of clam chunks. The crab rolls were good too but had a much more subtle flavor. The place is tiny, very simple, and everything is cooked about 4 feet away from you. It’s located in a mini mall mostly consisting of a super tacky souvenir store(just like half of all the other stores up and down the street in town).

We get chowder & a crab roll from here whenever we’re in town. Yummy chowder & food. I also really liked the coleslaw — not too creamy & with a little fruit in it. Thanks for a great lunch!

Fresh seafood at reasonable prices. Oh did I mention the crab cake is yummy. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday and closes at 5 so get your seafood on.

Delicious clam chowder properly seasoned(so many chowders these days are undersalted) and the crab roll was tasty and refreshing. Coconut shrimp were fresh and tasty as well. They know what they are doing here. We’ll be back.

Delicious food– had the crab roll, the chowder and a hot dog. All of it was really good! It’s a small business ran by really nice people, and I will recommend it to anyone I know headed to the coast.

Stopped by and picked up chowder. Favor is good, but I tend to like more of a richer flavor. Perhaps it was the missing potatoes or not enough onion and pepper, celery, because it seemed to be more of a thin milky flavor broth. Clams were a bit chewy. Ut that was ok. Maybe not my cup of chowder but plan to go back and try other items on the menu this summer. Very nice people, that in itself is hard to find.

The food is simple, fresh and delicious, but it was the personal service that makes Capt Bob’s deserving of 5 stars. Don’t let the small, greasy spoon appearance turn you away. The chowder was perfect — not too salty, runny or thickened by cornstarch. The halibut was fresh and the portions generous. The crab roll was divine — not drowned in butter or mayo. Bob and his wife made us feel at home and treated our kids to homemade chocolate chip cookies. Since Long Beach is a family favorite, we will be back!

My boyfriend and I were vacationing in the area, using his family’s beach house, and wanted to try a chowder place. We’d never heard of it before setting foot inside, but it was small, cozy, and immediately inviting. We both ordered clam chowder bread bowls, and were served generous portions of food as one of the two owners chatted with us about a variety of things as we sat and ate. The food was absolutely delicious, abundant with flavors galore, with perfectly tender clams. I have to lay constant praise upon the level of customer service I received. It was just so wonderfully inviting and she sat down and chatted with us for the entirety of our meal, as we visited in the off season and she had few customers. Very pleasant conversation. She even gave us free samples of the lobster chowder! We didn’t ask for this: she just offered it, and we tried it, finding it utterly superb. I only have one complaint about my visit: I didn’t have more of an appetite so I couldn’t try more of the food! Oh my goodness it was easily the best chowderhouse I’ve ever been to, and I will happily visit it again the next time we’re in the area.

This is a famous place for locals and visitors to Long Beach area. It is a small size restaurant but there are plenty of optional outdoor seats. when I visited, I enjoyed their food. However, I was not impressed with their service. * Service: Below average * Price: Average — however, how they prepare and cook their dishes, I can also see it as above average as well. * Atmosphere: Average but customers can certainly enjoy outside though * Food Quality: It is good and delicious! The owners make their dishes with the great deal of care and pride. * Parking: limited parking space right outside but there are plenty of parking spaces on the street nearby(both of them are free of charge) * Recommendation: Their special clam chowder is must have

Having tried multiple chowder houses across the Oregon/Washington coastline I do have to say bob’s will stand out as a clear favorite in my mind. So much so I feel a need to review our experience. Right off the bat we noticed the open kitchen, bob himself at the fryer, and a well cleaned small yet cozy place to eat. It was also nice to eat chowder from modern, clean well kept chowder pots rather than the old degraded and corroded kettles we were served from in Seattle. Chowder was on point,(for me at least, Chowder can be served a million different ways however bob keeps it traditional) my girlfriend had the coconut shrimp. Absolutely amazing. Served over a bed of steak fries.(Fries not fried in same grease as seafood so they tasted great) We could have not been more satisfied. For authentic chowder and seafood at an incredibly reasonable price,

Leaving the Antique Mall ‘I noticed a little hole in the wall’ next door. Very small place with 3 tables. Nothing fancy. Bob was by himself. I’m not sure if that is always the case, but he has it down. The place is open so you can see your food being prepared. He was very friendly and moving quite quickly to get orders out and acknowledging the young couple that walked in as he was helping a family. We ordered couple of clam chowders and crab cakes. The clam chowder was good. It could used more potatoes and clams. Maybe an off day? It was not too thick which was nice. Many places think thick is better but then it looses flavor. I am picky about chowder so I will leave it at good. The bread sticks are par baked. Which means partially baked and suppose to be baked off. They are served just as they come which is frozen so they are just thawed. The breadsticks would of not lost one star for this review if they were served as intended. Baked and warm… not… thawed and cold. The crab cakes… way more then good. Exclamation point. These did not have a lot of filler but just enough to bind them together. The flavor was outstanding. They were moist without being greasy. To my surprise, the coleslaw, my husband never eats at restaurants… was gone in no time. I also thought the flavor was great. When we ordered I ask what the crab roll has in it… as he got busy Bob did not forget my question and took a few seconds to bring us a sample… it was a good crab mixture but I am glad we ordered the crab cakes. Highly recommend them.

Captain bobs was great! We arrived at 3pm on a Sunday afternoon. Place was all but deserted except for the owner. Each of us ordered a cup of chowder, two clam chowders and a smoked salmon chowder– it was excellent. Two of us also ordered crab cakes. You get two in a side with a small slaw(excellent!) and sauce of your choice. The sweet chili sauce was amazing as was the tarter. Plus drinks and breadsticks, total came out to $ 36 for lunch. We loved it. It was so local with residents coming in to place to go orders for family and friends. Cozy seating on the inside and a few chairs outside. Plus after you’ve had your fill of chowder go over and see Jake next door at Marsh’s free museum.
