Delicious German wurst, beer garden, and pub food, with a good beer selection. The inside is pretty small and they have wooden picnic tables for group style seating, but the two times I’ve been that hasn’t been an issue. The manager is friendly and gave good advice on what to order. I’ll be going back here in the future.

Without any exaggeration: This is most probably the best German restaurant I’ve been to in the US in a long time! I’m German myself and have been looking for a nice spot to grab some food with my wife after a day at the beach. Service was awesome and we had a nice chat with the super-likable owner and the chef, both Germans themselves. We had the«Obazda» and truth to tell, I’ve never had a better one when I was back in Munich. Their Currywurst tastes like the one you get at those have-to-spots in Berlin. I had a 4 on their spicyness-scale and… well… it was HOT, just like you would expect it. Go there with your friends or family if you want to have REAL German food.

My wife and I(who is German) went here yesterday after a day at the beach, and were more than pleasantly surprised. She had been here once before and had the curry wurst and thought is was worth coming back to try again. This time we both got the Weisswurst and it was amazing. It came in a little bowl of broth with an amazing pretzel and we ended up taking food home because it was so much. The potato salad was solid, and the cucumber salad was out least favorite. Fresh but not pickle-y enough for my taste. All in all, this is worth the trip from the city just for the outstanding sausages. Sehr Lecker!

Finding this place on my way to the beach was a golden find. The beer selection will appease most German beer lovers and the pear cider was a nice, refreshing drink for that companion that doesn’t necessarily want to have a beer. The wild boar currywurst was fresh, tender and delicious. They have 6 levels of spice intensity. I tried #4 — a good day to die hard — it was just right, not too spicy with a bite that makes you want more. The KISS pretzel is like a cheese and garlic pretzel sandwich. It was very cheesy and garlicky. The ‘hear attack’ was a bratwurst wrapped in bacon with a side of sauerkraut and potato salad and fries. The waitresses were attentive, friendly and very sweet. Seeing some German tourists in here that enjoyed the food and beer was an added surprise. All in all, it was a great meal, at a great location but I need to come back to try the schnitzel before I elevate them to a 5.

Very nice German restaurant few blocks away from the beach. They have a huge selection of fine German beers to chose from. Also great selection of German food like Bratwurst and Sauerkraut and Schnitzels not to mention the pretzels! Fries were a bit salty yet great at the same time. I highly recommend this place due to its large beer selection. Try it out you won’t regret it !!

Went here as a group of 4. Started off with a Bavarian Pretzel which was really nice. 3 of us ordered the Currywurst(2 Chicken and 1 Traditional). all really good. Spice level 5 is super spicy… we are Indians and we couldn’t handle it to begin with(just to be clear, this isn’t a complaint. just to give an idea and since we are always stereotyped for eating spicy food)! My wife wasn’t a fan of their curry. she felt like it’s basically Tomato Ketchup with Spices mixed in it. However, the owner was nice enough to clarify that it actually is made from scratch using German Spices. The curry could contain some nice brown onions to actually make it a true curry; however I did some research to find out that German Curries are a bit different. The invention of currywurst is attributed to Herta Heuwer in Berlin in 1949 after she obtained ketchup(or possibly Worcestershire sauce) and curry powder from British soldiers in Germany. She mixed these ingredients with other spices and poured it over grilled pork sausage. None the less, sausage and curry is a very interesting combination and I thoroughly enjoyed the Currywurst! Service was excellent and so was the hostess!

Being(part) German, I had high hopes for some real home-style comfort food close to home when I saw the Unilocal reviews for Currywurst. Maybe I went on an «off» night, but the food just didn’t do it for me. I ordered takeaway, as the restaurant is a bit small, and the weather wasn’t doing anyone favors. We ordered 2 potato soups, 1 pretzel, 1 pfeffer schnitzel, 1 kässler, and 1 apple strudel. The potato soups were good, but the pretzel is massively doughy and tasted undercooked. While the underlying schnitzel was good, the(thankfully on the side) pepper sauce had a thickly oily consistency, and left quite a bit of heartburn. The kässler to me also seemed undercooked, and I wound up putting it back in the oven for a bit at home to get it a little more well done. Lastly though, the strudel was magnificent, and huge. Throw a dollop of ice cream on top of it and revel! I’d had the opportunity to chat with Lothar, and wished my fellow German success, and hope he does well. The location can’t be beat, but the food left quite a bit to be desired. I’m game to come back and give it another go, but at the moment, Zum Schneider in NYC has nothing to be scared of.

Great selection of German beers! The sausage was a tad underwhelming. The«spicy’ curry wasn’t spicy at all and my German friend also noted that the sauerkraut portion was too tiny to be German.

So glad to try something new in LB! Great location as right near train station. Had the pretzel and a German Riesling to start both really good! Then had the traditional currywurst and it was excellent. Good service, great little place! Prices were very reasonable for the quantity and quality of food or drink received! Will be back!

This place is amazing! The food is beyond incredible. Sauerkraut is out of this world. I’ve never had bratwurst; I can’t believe how many different kinds there are!!! The elk brat was delicious!!! Definitely worth the trip from Bay Shore! Can’t wait to come back! If you ring the bell you buy beer for everyone! Service was great.

Glad I tried this out. Came here with a few friends for dinner on a weeknight. There are a few long tables so if you’re coming alone or in a small group, you may be sharing. I ordered the brats. They were pretty small, so I ordered 2. Blueberry something and Mac n cheese something. Both very good. Comes with sauerkraut! The staff was very nice — attentive, personable, and professional. Street parking, which can be challenging in Long Beach but it’s in a pretty central location. Bottom line: I’d come back!

Outstanding food at decent prices. Only a couple beers on tap. All good but the rest are bottled. Great selection but I found them out of things time to time. I’ve find several times since stumbling upon this places. Love it. Even had great conversations with other guests, the chef and owner. Great people! The place is small so beware on busy nights but during week isn’t too bad. Garden style seating so don’t be afraid to sit right down next to others and start chatting. I had several bratwurst and currywurst and they were all great. The alligator was unusual, the elk and Kobe beef ones were amazing. Even the giant pretzel was damn tasty. The chef prepares a special weekly I believe so always something difference on top of their regular menu This German wonder will keep me coming back whenever I’m in long beach. Oh be warned about one thing… You can lay with credit but they can’t add tip to the card. They need to get this changed and they need to put a sign up. Its not just a glitch evidently it’s been like that since they opened.

Excellent German restaurant with authentic food. Very good service. The sausages especially are quite good as well as the vienerschnitzel. Not a large restaurant but it is quite airy and nice. Large selection of beer served in gigantic glasses. The price to value ratio is about average for this type of restaurant. All in all this was an excellent experience and I look forward to returning in the near future.

I’ve been wanting to check this place out since they opened but my wife was less eager. I finally convinced her last weekend and we both really enjoyed it! Come on, who doesn’t love sausage and beer? The sausage selection is really great, with some very exotic choices like venison and alligator. We had the wild boar and the classic with medium spiced curry. The wild boar was perfectly cooked and served with a sweet sauerkraut and mustard. The classic with medium spiced curry was a very interesting flavor combo that I loved. We also got some fries which were crispy and perfect. They have a few beers on tap and a bunch of bottles. I had the dark beer and my wife had the light. Both beers paired perfectly with the sausage. Next time I think we’ll try the spicier currywurst, they have a bunch of heat levels available. This is really a classic german beer garden right here in Long Beach! I hope the rest of Long Beach discovers this place, it is exactly what Long Beach needs. My only complaint would be that I wish they had more beers on tap. Did I mention the prices are pretty reasonable? It did not break the bank.

Great German food! Terrific beers! Even better service!!! What will make us return is they were so good to my allergy sensitive child. It’s very rare that a kitchen offers to make an allergy free meal, even more rare was that the meal had not been cross contaminated!!! We’re definitely fans

If you know and love German food, don’t go here. Currywurst truly is the WORST German food I’ve ever had in my life. My husband and I come from German heritage, we’ve been to Germany, and we’ve eaten at several Long Island German restaurants… all of which are head & shoulders above this place. AVOIDTHISPLACE! Apparently they got a new chef and wow, he does NOT know how to cook anything except to heat up brats & pretzels. And they told us he was German? that’s just sad if it’s true. Those 2 food items are OK. You want anything else that tastes good? Go elsewhere. Seriously. You’ll get bigger portions, authentic German cuisine, and all at less money(or better value for your money). FOOD: Jaegerschnitzel: AWFUL. I took 2 bites of what looked like a reheated Lean Cuisine pale piece of meat(not breaded, not fried) and refused to eat the rest of it. Not that there was much of it. For $ 19.00 this was a total rip-off: one TINY piece of pathetic meat, prepared incorrectly, with a watery sauce that had grease blobs on it and was separating, a few mushrooms and regular spaetzle. Kaesespaetzle: BLECH. So boring, and even the people who were sitting next to us said«we were here a couple of months ago and this is nothing like what we had before… last time it was like Mac & Cheese. This is just noodles with some cheese broiled over it.». Exactly. This is not kaesespaetzle as it’s supposed to be… Also, it’s a little skillet of it — for $ 15. Ouch. We had this fee taken off of our bill because I had ordered the above-mentioned Jaegerschnitzel with kaesespaetzle, not regular spaetzle. but the staff didn’t listen and so we got 2 helpings of it; regular and with cheese. Tour of Germany for 2: SAD. One piece of rye bread with a thin slice of ham on it, topped with a fried egg and some ordinary pickles on the side. Really? Also, 3 pieces of «German Bruschetta»: crostini with Liebekase(like bologna), melted gruyère, caramelized onions and literally drowning in their curry sauce. The curry killed any other flavor. 2 brats which were good(but small). And a bowl filled half with cold German potato salad that was sludgy on the bottom, and other half was shredded cukes. No way was this a meal for 2(thank goodness i ordered the schnitzel. no wait, i take that back.) Also, the server sold us on the German Bruschetta appetizer but failed to tell us that it was also included in the Tour — so we ate the same thing twice. and paid double. Gee, thanks. Note that everything(except the brats) came with halved grape tomatoes and parsley on top. EVERYTHING. very odd. BEER: large selection but it’s mosly in bottles. Only 3 or 4 on tap. SERVICE: seemed confused, uneducated and overwhelmed. They take the order on iPads but needed my husband to find his own item and hit the button(??). Then they overcharged us & blamed the iPads. It was so awful we couldn’t wait to get out of there! Needless to say, we won’t be back. Neither will the strangers who were our table neighbors who had been there before & said they’re never coming back — service and food went downhill.

German food isn’t a cuisine that I am really familiar with, so when this place opened around the corner from me, I wasn’t super excited. After trying it, however, I am thrilled to have it in such close proximity. The $ 15 for $ 25 Unilocal deal is what got me through the door initially. We ordered Wiener schnitzel with potato dumplings, a buffalo bison Currywurst with fries, and a kasspatzle(I totally spelled that wrong, I do not sprechen sie deutsche) which is like macaroni and cheese on steroids. Wiener schnitzel was delicious and tender. Potato dumplings were great. Currywurst was spicy and interesting. Fries were crispy and good portion. And the Kasspatzle, out of this world. Gruyère Mac and cheese with sautéed onions and bacon. :Homer Simpson drooling sound: They serve a wide variety of good German beers, in sizes varying from a .21 liter cup to a 4 liter boot. Yes. You read that right. They serve beer in giant glass boots. Why did I take so long to try this place?! Currywurst … This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

I was so happy to see this place, so nicely located on the way to Long Beach as you head out the train station(it’a across the street, to the right of Five Guys burgers). So nice to take a little box of curry wurst and fries with you to the beach! I lived in Germany for over 15 years, and never thought I’d see a good curry wurst again. This one was not as greasy as I remembered, but the pork sausage is organic so it gets an A+. The curry sauce is very close to what I remember, they have different levels of curry heat and I would recommend you get a higher level-I asked for level 2 and it really wasn’t spicy at all. Their menu goes far beyond curry wurst, offerring everything from Wiener schnitzel to Belgian beer bratwurst, plus a fantastic selection of authentic German beer.

Went here on a recommendation from a friend. There are 3 big tables and some bar space along the walls. From the outside, you would never think the inside looked the way it did. I was pleasantly surprised. The wait staff don’t come over and take your order, but they do bring the food out to you. Checking in on Unilocal gave me 10% off just for checking in, or I was able to purchase a $ 25 gift card for $ 15, so I went with that. The menu was a little overwhelming, not really knowing what kind of German food I enjoyed but my friends and I split the BIGSAUSAGESPECIAL Choose three sausages. Served with our homemade sauerkraut and fries. 19.95 We got: 1. MAC N’ CHEESEBRATWURST For the kid in you. 7.49(came with 3) 2. BELGIUMBEERBRATWURST Rich pork flavoring with a hint of Belgium beer. 4.99(my favorite of the 3. Pretty basic brat. Kinda what I would think of when I’d think German Brat) 3. BUFFALO/BISON BRATWURST* Chipotle flavors, paired w/smoked jalapeños and bacon. 6.50(very juicy) As an app we got GERMANBRUSCHETTA Olive oil crostinis with Fleischkäse, caramelized onions and melted Gruyère cheese. Served with our signature sauce on the side. 11.49 If you like caramelized onions, I would DEF. Recommend this. It came with A LOT of curry sauce, but I put mustard on it instead. Lastly, they offer a boot challenge,(DASBOOT!), which my friends and I heavily discussed. You purchase a 4L boot of beer, and if you finish it in one sitting, you earn your name on their chalk board and a picture on their wall. I think 4L would be around 12 beers. No girl has done it yet. Myself or my friends may be the first!(the owner did say, the first girl to accomplish this would get the beer for free!) CHALLENGEACCEPTED!

This was a weak 5 stars, but with a little improvement it could be a STRONG5 stars. The place is small and cozy, the menu is very interesting and the staff is very friendly. My wife had the potato soup which was not what she was expecting, but definitely did not disappoint her. Instead of being your typical thick potato soup, this was more like a cross between a potato soup and a French onion soup. Was very tasty! Next we had the Chorizo chips. On a very minor down note, the menu claimed that the chorizo is served on crunch chips. The chips we had were good, but absolutely not crunchy. If you want a true 5 stars your menu has to match what you are serving. Still, a very good appetizer! I had the buffalo bratwurst with the sweet mustard and the sauerkraut on the sandwich. The bratwurst, the mustard and the sauerkraut were all very excellent! When I sampled the sweet mustard before ordering I thought it may be too sweet, but it paired very well with the excellent homemade sauerkraut! The weak point(also helped bring down my opinion) was the roll. It was too much bread and too spongy. It should not be hard to get a better roll to serve the bratwurst on and that would help elevate Currywurst tremendously. My only other complaint was that this was an early afternoon lunch with too much to do afterwards to sample their great looking beer options. I would love to come back here when I can sample a few of their interesting looking offerings!
