By far my favorite dining experience to date. Every course built on the last– each bite was a gift. The baked raspberry Brie was to die for, the perfectly cooked steak was delish, and to end the meal with a chocolate soufflé.well it was simply orgasmic. Why did you close Lashers?! Why!!! Please let us know if you decide to open another restaurant. One of your many fans ;)

Thanks for the great times Ray and Lynne! We loved celebrating special times at Lashers. We had some tougher financial years — so we only would come on a major anniverisary or birthday, loved sitting on the patio so we could laugh and carry on. Their clam chowder is the standard which I measure all. Farewell — our very best to your Keith & Pam

We loved this restaurant, which is within walking distance from where we live. I learned the sad news today when I tried calling to make a reservation for our wedding anniversary that the restaurant is no longer in business. Farewell, Lasher’s. It has been a nice ten years.

I love this place. My fiancé and I are actually heading there for dinner tonight! We have a Groupon that we’ll be using for our grub. Unfortunately, Lasher’s will be closing soon. Groupon emailed me and told me to hurry up and use my deal, because after next week, they’d be closing their doors! I guess they just couldn’t get enough business to keep things going. :( Lashers — it was nice knowing you, and I wish you the best with your future endeavors!

Amahzing. Went here on a Thursday for my birthday. Everything was perfect from the host(who was our waitress) to the food to the décor. Yes, I eat early, like a retiree, so it was probably less crowded but that’s how i like it. All the entrees looked amazing but i got the seafood stew and it was huge and fantastic. chunks of fish, lots of clams and shrimp. Was probably the most filling seafood dish i’ve had. Dont forget dessert — trust me! it’s not pricey if you either 1) get a bottle or 2) bring your own! free corkage on thursdays!

One of the cutest restaurants in LB. The bungalow home and the old fashioned table settings make this a really nice place for dinner. The food and service are good too. My wife and I started out with the crab cakes, which were delicious. I also got theexcellent clam chowder. In my book, it’s better than the clam chowder at Los Alamitos Fish Company, but I’d need to do a side-by-side taste test. Both are creamy and rich, but Lasher’s clam chowder has an extra bit of smokiness that gives it a more unique taste. The waiter, who was also friendly and attentive, told me that the smokiness come from the bacon. For entrees, my wife got the shrimp and bowtie pasta, which was creamy and light. The shrimp were fresh and firm. I’m not a huge pasta fan, but I thought this dish was pretty good. I got a half rack of lamb with risotto, which was very good. The lamb was cooked perfectly, and the risotto was very rich and decadent. So rich, that I wasn’t able to finish it. I wasn’t such a fan of the sauteed spinach, but it was ok. My wife and I shared the bread pudding for dessert. It was good too, with apples and cinnamon. But, I’m such a chocolate fiend, I wish it had some chocolate in it.(My sister makes a really good bread pudding with bananas and chocolate.) In any case, Lasher’s is definitely one of the best restaurants in LB. It’s a bit pricey, dinner for two about $ 140. But the setting, service(the waiters even wear vests), and food make it a great place for special occassions.

I live literally two blocks away(for over 6 years) and I finally made it here. Part of it was the price… do I really want to pay so much to dine in a house blocks from me when I could go somewhere with an amazing view and pay a similar amount?! With that said, it truly is in a former house and it smells like my grandma’s house used to– a bit musty– but it’s expected in a house built a hundred years ago, I guess. I’m not sure what’s up with the reviews of bad service. The people may not be oozing with personality but everyone was courteous, the service was very good, and I can’t see how you could complain about it. As for the food, we started with the goat cheese dip, which I didn’t really want but my wife did. It was way too rich for my taste and I think we ended up leaving half of it behind. I ordered the ‘coast to coast’, which was a NY Strip, a crab stuffed pepper, and NZ prawns. The steak was prepared perfectly and was good, the pepper was spicy as promised and good as well. The prawns were grilled and were, well, prawns. This was all served with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I can’t say I was wowed with my dish and I certainly do feel I overpaid but that was expected upfront. We did finish everything off with a Key Lime Pie… I’m not sure why, as we probably didn’t need it, but that’s beside the point. It was creamier than most similar pies and I didn’t really find anything spectacular about it. It was good, yes, but nothing memorable. I gave this place four stars because I felt the food was prepared well and had a great flavor. The atmosphere was cozy and it felt like you were dining, well, at your grandma’s house. And the service was really good. Unlike other four star reviews, I probably won’t come back partially because of the cost and the value. It’s worth trying out once.

I came here for a celebration dinner and it was a lot of fun! Lasher’s is set in this Long Beach craftsman house with a huge cursive L on the front of the house. It’s on the corner of Redondo and Broadway. Drive a little faster than 40 mph and you’ll miss it. The food is American. I chose the Seafood linguine which was this monster plate with sausages, shrimp, chunks of fish, spicy linguine sauce and lotsa noodles. I couldn’t even finsh half of it! Very flavorful if you’re looking for a spicy dish. My friends got the fish of the day with the coconut risotto. The fish was slightly fried with batter and had that soft, flaky texture. The coconut risotto was a bit overpowering for the fish, but served alone, it would have been fine. Service was good, as the waiters/waitresses kept checking in on us for more water refills and to clear out plates. They gave us plenty of time in between courses and didn’t rush us out. Ambience was pretty relaxed, as the house is not super fancy, but is created to evoke a nostalgic, upscale appearance. We were seated in the«golf» room with pictures of old magazine covers with pro golfers and equipment. It wasn’t cheesy though… it felt like I was having dinner in someone’s living room. 3.5 stars because compared to other places that serve American cuisine, there are better places. I did like the cozy, peaceful craftsman house/theme and I suppose this would be nice place for a date in Long Beach. Not a bad place. Probably an even better place if you have a gift certificate/groupon/restaurant.com certificate though.

I had high hopes for this place. Reading the reviews, I was pretty psyched to make my way out to Long Beach. Staged in a homely setting I was ready to ping this place as a brag about spot. So here is what went wrong — Waiter: We only interacted with him and he sucked. First he was a downer. Second he didn’t get us the appropriate utensils. Third he never came by and the place was not busy. We had to flag him down every single time. Even when he was serving the tables next to us, he never looked our way. And when he did, I guess he couldn’t see my arm straight up in the air trying to flag him down. Fourth, when we asked for a suggestion he recommended what ever I think is good on the menu. — Food: blah. Nothing special. I would give it a 2 at best. Got the lamb rack and Beef rib. Both were dry and poorly flavored. I didn’t even finish my food. — Expensive: I don’t mind paying. But the value was not there… total rip off. Sorry Unilocalers. I don’t like giving bad reviews especially when everyone raves about this place.

This place was awesome! Little inland from the ocean it is a quaint looking restaurant remodeled from a house; it’s got incredible character. The front porch is very inviting and has great curb appeal. The inside is decorated very nicely and gives a sense of welcome. There was a really cool 6-top table in a back room with a golf theme that was a real looker. We sat for brunch on the quite garden patio that wraps around the building. It was slow that afternoon so we had it to ourselves. In sum, the ambiance was bed and breakfast type laid-back cool. Owner Ray greeted us — nice guy. He gets it. Waiter Brenden rocked our table — he was knowledgeable, cool, sophisticated but not stuffy. Job well done. Food was the highlight. The adults had the brunch options which gives you a starter and choice of menu item. I had NE Clam Chowder that was one of the best I’ve ever eaten and I lived Back East for 8 years. Incredible buttery flavor. I then had the Crab Cakes Benedict — the eggs wee cooked perfect, you know when you put a fork through it and it has juts the right amount of golden goo to be sopped up wih the muffin. Crab was very tasty too. Home potatoes were incredible and tasted liek they were sauteed in bacon fat and garlic. mmmm good. Wash it down with a fresh squeezed champagne mimosa — can’t beat that.

«I saw my definition of virtue. To be good, to love, to father, to mother, to nurture, to heal. I saw it in its shining simplicity. «What can you do, you fool?» I asked myself. «Except keep your family safe, give them the means to live on their own, strong and healthy and good. Give them the conscience and protect them from evil.» –A quote from the Anne Rice novel«Lasher» I really think Hazel is cool but she needs to revisit Lasher’s again. I give this one a strong four stars, and if it wasn’t for the mediocre bread and a wine list not adventuresome enough for the food; they could be knocking on the door of five stars. Lasher’s is known for featuring regional american cuisine with seasonal dishes. Using a groupon coupon(so sad I missed the Gyu-Kaku groupon), KW and I visited on Sunday night. Per the website: «Our restaurant is in a completely renovated Craftsman-style home originally built in 1920. The structure and interior have been left in the original style save for the kitchen and restrooms. The small interior rooms combine with an expansive patio to provide a variety of atmosphere choices. The restaurant was singled out by the Long Beach Heritage Foundation in 1997 and awarded a Neighborhood Preservation Award» I love to support local businesses making the extra effort(Yeah, yeah… I know I just gave a Macaroni Grille 4 stars) so I was excited to try this restaurant. The wine list indeed was a small disappointment… fairly standard choices, mostly American, although I started with a Champagne split that was quite lovely. The best of the white choices by the glass was a Byron Chardonnay overpriced at $ 12.00. The bread was also a disappointment… just a slightly stale sourdough that, however, made for a good dipping accompaniment with the lovely starter of Cream of Asparagus soup. The soup was subtle, but substantial… with a nice texture but not an overpowering flavor and seasoned perfectly. They even gave KW a taster portion as I had ordered this solo. We shared our entrees which were a lovely roasted free range chicken and three sausage grilled combination. The chicken was cooked perfectly… so juicy and tender. The sausages were also outstanding with the highlight being the pineapple bacon sausage(Mmmm…bacon) and the Spicy Andouille Sausage. The sides were great too… especially the mac n cheese, garlic mashed potatoes and fresh asparagus. We ended with vanilla ice cream with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Service was very good although the busser really, really, really wanted to clear off a plate we were still muching on. A lovely end to a nice evening… we even exited to fireworks in the distance from some local festival :)

Got a Groupon deal and happy I did. We popped in for the Sunday champagne brunch and I was kind of surprised how quiet it was. There were just a few tables occupied both in and out. We started off sitting outside, but a neighboring table was being bothered by flies, and we started noticing it too. So the staff was so very accomodating and helped us move inside. The staff was attentive and strangely, you can see a division of labor btw the 3 wait staff(ie, we only got pours from one guy, the other guy took our orders and acted as main server, but didn’t server us anything really, the other was the cleaner. Whatever works, I suppose.) BERRYMUFFINS: served as an alternative to bread. There were still warm and fresh! Love it! MIMOSAS: bottomless!!! And generous pours. LOVELOVELOVE. BABYGREENSALAD: i wish i had more!!! the portion was small but appropriate. because by the end, the tangy dressing is enough to whett your appetite for the main dish. Yummy greens complimented by the crunch of the walnuts. A must have. THREEMUSHROOMSOUP: i wish i could eat mushrooms, but can’t so my son ate most of it. It was described as cream of mushroom soup. It wasn’t thick and chunky where you have to eat it with a fork, but slightly more watered down, which I happen to perfer. SAUSAGEMIXEDBREAKFAST: served with egg whites, and two sausages in different flavors. one spicy and one mild. they were so good. the cubes of potatoes where delish. best I’ve ever had. I loved the butteriness, with the mild crunchy outer and soft inner. I wish I asked them on the herbs they used, cuz I happens to have some spuds in the fridge this week. Copying is the greatest form of flattery right? :) SALMON&SPINACHBENEDICT: I thought the salmon would be dry, but the combo of the spinach, the perfectly poached egg and hollondaise sauce was just perfect. and this dish included the cubed potatoes wish I lavishly praised above. Shall I repeat? So why not 5-stars? This should really be 4.5 or 4.75…but I had brought my 2yr old. This place isn’t so kiddie friendly. Sure they have a kids menu, but in my case, the food wouldn’t have worked for him. Too rich, too high in flavors, and I suspect pretty big portions. And the pricing for the kids menus run from $ 7-$ 10, high in my mind for something my kid won’t eat. It would have been great if I could have gotten a stack of paper napkins. Love the cloth napkins, but not appropriate for messy kids. Could have used kid friendly utensils(ie plastic), but that would have ruined the fanciness of the whole place. There’s a private parking lot, that maybe fits 10 cars, but there’s street parking too. I love the«whole restaurant in a house»…intimate and cozy. Keep in mind… because it is a house originally, the floors creak and rol with heavy steps. So sit near the kitchen or the bathroom and you’ll feel the steps of those walking by. Today was cooler than it has been these last few days, but I still felt pretty warm in there.//could have been the light sweater I wore. Not sure if they had AC on, but whenever the door opened, I welcomed the breeze that came in too. I will come back when I want my hubby to wine and dine me. And this will be sans baby.

PERFECTFORDATES. This bungalow/actual residence turned entrepreneuring family style restaurant is cozy, intimate, has good food, is pricy but relatively worth it, and has an innovative menu featuring creations such as «Fried Green Tomatoes w/Andouille Sausages» and«Cajun seafood linguini». If you go, be sure to converse with the maitre’d…it was the owner himself! He’s chock full of great suggestions for what to get, knows all about the history of the restaurant, and he’ll make sure you have a great dining experience. And for goodness sake please get the clam chowder! Its pricy but I dare say it’s the best I’ve ever had… I ordered the NY steak which I thought was just okay. My friend Tim L. got the ribeye which was a little better. Next time I go I might opt for something non-steaky.

This place is located down the street from where we live and we have always wanted to try it. We finally got the opportunity when a Groupon appeared, so we took advantage. The inside is very cool, they did a nice job converting an old Craftman house into a fine restaurant. A little cramped though and you can easily follow the conversations of the party sitting next to you. We started off with wine, which is more on the expensive side. We noticed that a number of tables had brought their own wine and their server corked it for them. We tried the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer which was phenomenal. Nothing what I expected and it was served with sausage and creamy topping. I had the Ripeye Steak which was good and tender. It was served with mashed potoatoes and brocolli which were both very good. We were lucky to have one of the owners as our server. It gives the experience more of a personal feel. She was very pleasant and we were well taken of.

The restaurant is a quaint house with a porch and all. We had reservations on a Friday night at 8 pm and we didn’t have to wait long before our table was ready. We’ve heard good things about the fried green tomatoes and the award winning clam chowder, so I started off with that. One of the specials for the night was the barracuda with rice pilaf and vegetables, which I ordered for my entrée. Andrew got the prime rib(Friday is prime rib night) fixed set, which came with salad, 12 oz. prime rib and dessert for $ 39. The fried green tomatoes were so good that none was left at the end of the night. The clam chowder was pretty decent too, not too much potatoes and too little clams. Thumbs up. My barracuda was very tender and fresh and I purposely saved half to take home to enjoy the next day as lunch. Dessert, chocolate soufflé, was pretty darn yummy too. The food was great and the location very unique. The company was a bit strange. Andrew remarked that when we walked in, we got weird stares from the other patrons.(Not sure why…) Perhaps it’s due to the population of the customers. *Shrugs* Parking is a bit limited in the lot behind the house. We took the last spot when we got in and the streets look a bit crowded, so give yourself some extra time to get situated with parking.

Had a groupon that had expired back when Thomas Jefferson was in town…(story of my life NOTETOSELF: STOPBUYINGSOMANYGROUPONS!!) Jeez talk about the turmoil of a boyfriend living out of town ={ hehehe Anyhoo called in advance spoke with the Owner who had a «no nonsense-no-time-for-chit-chat» demeanor on the phone he told me as I started to explain my dilema over the expired Groupon that I had 3 days to use it Tues, Wed or Thurs of this week — that was IT! So Jeanette bday is on Wednesday and I only had one evening this week actually open I call her up Lucky Me she is available! Quaint setting, great place for a romantic dinner(tables are close together so not necessarily private) but atmosphere is romantic in a craftsman cottage setting. Parking is complimentary and in the rear of the establishment. Service was outstanding very attentive and well informed. Server brought out bread and butter… 1st downer that evening our bread SUCKED! it was hard and just didn’t taste good :(Then we chose to start the meal out with 2 appetizers(they offer happy hour specials from 5:00pm-7:00pm) Fried Green Tomatoes with Andouille Sausage and Goat Cheese and Roasted Garlic on a delicious Rustic Parmesan Bread…(obviously not the same as served with the meal) J tried a glass of the Petit Sirah by Bogle(she didn’t like it) it had a real bitter after taste so she ended up with something else which she only liked slightly better =/I had a glass of Fume Blanc — no bells and whistles just a dry white wine. For entrée J got the Braised Short Ribs with Mashed Potatoes — presentation gorgeous and the mashed potatoes were really smooth YUM! Here is where my review takes a bad turn… I ordered the daily special«Barracuda» marinated in Lime and Citrus juices served with a Herb Honey Polenta — first off I LOVE polenta it is mecca from the kitchen Gods but that Barracude naahhh dawg that was some strange mess the smell made me sick and I TRIED to eat it, I wanted to like it the presentation was beautiful so I dove into it but by like the 3rd attempt I knew it was mos def not agreeing with me. So much so that we told the server to please remove it from the table. It took away my appetite I couldn’t even muster any enthusiasm for dessert =[ My palate AND stomache was cursing me OUT! Jeanette ordered Bread Pudding to go for her Birthday sweet treat and I sat there bummed. BTW Restrooms were cute and clean. With the exception of the unremarkable bread and the drasted Barracuda I liked everything about this location so I will be back. I must also point out that the table beside us ordered the fish just before we were leaving… want to know how I knew this??? I was getting sick again and was like OMG is the smell of the fish on my hands? NO the guy behind me had a lovely plate of it in front of him and we didn’t stick around long enough to see if he enjoyed the dish but I am guessing that he probably did. Bottom line is if you are daring and enjoy ALLSORTS of Fish dishes and they have this as a special again GOFORIT if however you tend to stick to the safe fishes like Salmon, Swordfish or Halibut I’m not sure you will like this one. I was a bit disappointed with Lasher’s, it had a lot of potential. It’s different, because they converted a cute little house into this restaurant. I had the pleasure of sitting at the corner table next to the fireplace in the living room. It was nice and cozy and I like the concept. I tried the DineLA menu and had the mushroom soup, seafood cajun linguini and ended with the key lime pie. The soup was good, but nothing special. The pasta was just okay… lacking a bit in flavor and way overpriced if you ordered it off the menu. The key lime pie was the lifesaver of the dish, but then I’m partial to key lime pie. I did get to try some of the braised short ribs and found it to be way salty! So the food wasn’t consistent not impressed. But the service was excellent and it really gives a local feel, a lot of locals dining! Small parking lot in the back for customers but if its full, there is always street parking.

While I love the concept of Lashers – a craftsman house converted into a cozy restaurant – there’s something missing from the overall experience that I can’t put my finger on. Or maybe I can… I admit I haven’t been to Lasher’s in 3 – 4 years. Maybe I thought absence would make the heart grow fonder. The truth is that the food there is perfectly fine(and a bit overpriced if I do say so) but lacks the WOW factor you expect at an establishment this pricey. Example; I had the scallops. They were seasoned appropriately and seared just so slightly. But the side dishes were totally uninspiring: the rice pilaf and green beans could have easily been found at a restaurant with much lower standards. The presentation was(*yawn*) Bor-ing! All in all, we had a nice evening but I would attribute that to the ambience and not necessarily the food. Oh, and yes, the fried green tomatoes were good(but again, not earth-shattering). When I pay this type of $$ for a meal, I kind of expect to be impressed. Instead I left thinking«This place could be so much better…»

I’ve had a ticket burning a hole in my pocket. It seems few great places participate, and the few that do have all sorts of stipulations that end up being more restrictive than beneficial. [Offer only good on a Full Moon, during an eclipse, in the month of Smarch, with a party no greater than 3 and a half, but no less than 3 and a quarter.] But Lasher’s wasn’t like that, and it was a good reason to finally pay them a visit for brunch. It was a quiet morning, prolly cuz of Football Sunday(the silver lining to my usually-televised football game being blacked out). There were only a handful of other folks there at the time, so it was a nice relaxing vibe. But wouldn’t you know, despite having been open only an hour, and having only a smattering of customers, they had already run out of prime rib. Apparently every soul ahead of us had ordered it that morning. A testament to its popularity I suppose. Their prefix brunch comes with a starter(salad/soup/fruit), an entrée, and OJ or a Mimosa. We ended up with a baked brie appetizer with fig and almond compote, steak and eggs, and the crab cakes benedict. They were all pretty good. So at the end of the day, 2 prefix brunches, an appetizer and drinks put us in the sweet spot for the certificate. We ordered close to the actual retail price without overbidding, and came away with a good meal at a good price. Now I just gotta reserve a Prime rib dinner.

Tasty fried green tomatoes, and an excellent value in the«discovery menu» on Friday night. The baked brie pastry is a-maz-ing, while the hearts of romaine salad was slightly overdressed and enough to feed two people! My hunk of meat was fine, and the cremee brulee had an excellent crème but was not burnt enough. Some aspects of the meal were excellent(baked brie pastry), while others could use work(the salad and cremee brulee). The excellent ambience and location in a craftsman house in Long Beach tip the scales so Lasher’s gets a four star rating in my book! In the summer, I would love to sit outside with a glass of red wine and some appetizers to share. The twinkly lights on small round trees are an excellent touch for an already fantastic dining experience.
