Fun menu and great drinks! The bartender is clearly passionate about creating great and different drinks which made dinner for us really enjoyable. He made quite a few great suggestions and all of our drinks were delicious. Food was good too– I had the zucchini linguini with seafood which was light, flavorful and overall very good. A few of the others at the table weren’t as satisfied with their dinners but we’d definitely come back for the drinks!

I met a girlfriend here for a Tuesday night«date night» dinner. Everything was delicious! We shared a terrific blue cheese pear salad that was perfectly dressed. I had the salmon, also perfect, although it was supposed to have fennel in it and I couldn’t detect any. My friend had the pork, which smelled great-I didn’t taste it. The service was fast and very polite and the chef himself, Matt, came out to greet us! The space seems a little old but only from the outside. Inside it is warm and inviting. My one complaint was that my drink, a lime Rickey with gin, didn’t have much gin in it. But one mention to the server and the next drink was much much better. they also allowed us to substitute another round for the bottle of wine that usually comes with the special. Love this place!

New Owners! We have been going ever since new owners. and it’s really good! I love the meatballs… they have great flavor and sauce taste good. they come in a little pot, nice and hot. about 6 meatballs good to share with someone! Dumplings are also very good! Bf likes the Salmon… he likes it medium rare and it comes out medium rare! I’ve had the chicken dish as well as the chopped salad with chicken strips and the chicken was tender and flavorful… dressing on salad was also very good! We also had the sugookie for dessert and it was delicious… hot chocolate chip cookie in a pan with vanilla ice cream on top and little syrup… LOVEDIT! Mixed drinks and wine… good. Sit as their nice little bar. then go have a nice dinner. I recommend this place for a nice date night and a group of people!

Relatively quiet on a Sunday at 6:40 — apparently Sunday’s are also Family Dinner Night — so kids eat free. Ordered baked clams which were good. The warm spinach salad(special) was ok — asked for dressing on the side, but clearly there was oil still marinating the spinach leaves in. Zucchini linguini was decent — needed a touch more salt. A word that comes to mind that refers to our experience in general is lackluster. I doubt we’ll come back here. Tried the winter sangria — way too bitter — overwhelming nutmeg/Christmas spices for my taste. Crème brûlée was cold underneath the caramelized layer. Less than desirable. It’s nice that the chef comes out to greet customers — would’ve been nicer if she came and talked to us. Then maybe she would’ve actually listened to my request for no dressing(or oil) on my salad. Ladies toilet is broken and there is no indication that it may be malfunctioning — would’ve appreciated a heads’ up. Best part of the meal was the cappuccino — which they make the bus boy seems to man with expertise.

Not a bad bar, every other place was packed with sports idiots, this was quite, beer selection was not great.

Good food probably the best in Long Beach, they need more staff, especially a bartender and less of the obnoxious waiter I seem to get every time I’d go. I’ve since stopped going because of him.

We were a little disappointed. The atmosphere was nice, the drinks were great, but thats where the complments stop. The waitress was working hard, but they were understaffed and we felt neglected. The only other server, a guy, spent most of the night bullshitting with the customers while the girl ran around. We couldn’t get a second drink. The pan seared scallops we had were good but it was served on a bed of Israeli cous cous, which was loaded with rock hard asparagus stalks that had the consistency of hard wood. The skirt steak was okay, the dessert menue looked nice but after being treated like an afterthought all night we opted to go somewhere else for dessert and drinks. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

Foodie Menu & Crafty Cocktails — a step up from many Long Beach fried food and beer menus. Casual but trendy atmosphere with three different seating areas– private tables in the back, bar stools in the middle, and a couple tables near the font and on the sidewalk. Make a reservation in advance if you want a specific spot, otherwise we were easily seated at 5:30pm with no waiting or advance notice. Happy hour specials are for bar seating, but our server graciously offered us the Sangria & oyster special because we had a long wait before she could get to the table. A great way to let us know she cared right up front and it led to us ordering more than we might have otherwise. The chopped salad was definitely tasty, though I think some reviewers over-sold it just a bit, but it was large enough for two to share as an appetizer or one as an entrée. The husband lllllllloved the oysters, especially the picked onions along with the cocktail sauce. He was going nuts over them. I love the Zuccini Linguini with Shrimp, Calamari & Muscles– it was exactly what I had been looking for– something light but filling and satisfying. Everything was flavorful and well-balanced. I’d definitely be back!

Service, food, and décor… lets judge those. Comfortable place with a great ambience especially for a date. There are two tables outside so you can be a bit more intimate with the passerbys. I love the look of this place! The food was great, very tasty to me. My friend wasn’t to fond of her skirt steak but my salmon was amazing! The fried oysters are good but it’s about 65% batter. The margherita pizza with chicken sausage was delicious. We also had the cookie dessert which was worth every single added calorie on earth. Service could’ve been better from our WAITRESS. I emphasize waitress because everyone else came by to ask us how we were doing which was a great way to compensate for her absence. All in all, great food but I would recommend a more extensive dinner menu.

Good seafood. Lobster-octopus stuffed avocado were great, so were the mussels. My gf liked her mixed drinks. Food came out fast.. Friendly staff.

Visited Sugo the day after Valentines. Although it wasn’t our first visit, we will certainly dine there a lot more frequently. We started with mushroom soup and the chicken meatballs in pomodoro sauce. I couldn’t stop eating the meatballs. They were excellent. Though I was craving a steak and it wasn’t on the menu that evening, I went for the short ribs and my wife ordered the bronzino. They were both flawlessly prepared. My short ribs were perfectly braised, tender but intact and the bronzino had the crispy slightly charred skin but was moist and tasty beneath. We are fans!

Great food, great beer /wine, great service, great specials… and probably the coolest vibe of any restaurant in LB. Only minor downside is that it’s a bit pricey… but you get what you pay for in this life! Highly recommend.

Long Beach has a lot of restaurants. SUGO is my favorite. I like to sit at the bar. The bartender here is very nice and not intrusive. The things I have eaten here have all been very tasty. The dumplings, chicken meatballs, calamari, chopped salad, any kind of pizza, and fish tacos are my favorite. My only negative comment is regarding the decorating. I know it’s cool to be Bohemian, but the decorating needs sprucing up. It should be in par with the food, which is appealing. If you’re sitting at the bar and drinking some of their super potent cocktails, you may not notice, but Alan, heed some of our suggestions and have a decorator come in! The location is great, the servers have always been good when I’ve gone and the food is memorable in a good way. I recommend you try SUGO, even if it’s just to sample the appetizers or grab a quick burger and a beer!

One of my favorite places in Long Beach! I have never had a bad meal here. Actually I’ve only had outstanding meals here. The décor is great — it’s red and kind of dark, kind of cozy but in a racy sort of way. The art in the restaurant is fun and you can tell that Alan(owner) has put his heart into this place. As far as the food goes, I can come here for their chopped salad alone — it’s sooooo good. My favorite item on the menu. Warning: it’s filling. Regarding entrees, I take the specials a lot because he gets the freshest(often locally sourced) items that day — the chef does great with seafood. The best part about the restaurant is that Alan aims to please so much that he will alter a meal to suit your palate and even make something that is not on the menu if that is what you would like. The chef never goes wrong. So why one star off: I don’t like their special nights — like diva bingo, and I am not a fan of the drinks menu or the way the drinks are made. They are just decent. If you want a nice somewhat quiet dinner, go in the beginning of the week. If you have any problems or issues, find Daniel — she’s the manager and is very attentive to her job. Highly recommended for the food. PS — find their food truck on Riverside and Shore by the boardwalk. The fish tacos are great(but small… they are $ 3 worth).

If you visit Long Beach, you have to visit Alan’s Sugo Café too! There is a lunch special where you can choose from different meals plus house/caesar salad for only 12 $ and its really really good(Pizza)! Alan(the owner) is one of the greatest guys we’ve ever met and all in all the service was absolutely perfect! P. S.: For appetizer we really recommend the dumplings!!!

Sugo might have been one of the most interesting dinners I’ve had this year. Let me start by saying the food was solid and I would 100% return here. Def a step up from the typical LB eateries. Also, whoever owns this place seemed to have listened to previous reviews, as they now have a standard menu along side their daily specials. Here’s the rundown… Hits: –Chopped salad was excellent –Caprese salad had tomatoes that were ‘made in a lab’ to contain more lycopene. Well, call up Dr Frankenstein and order up some more ‘matoes bc those babies were good! The fresh mozz was delish as well. –An app came after our main dish and the staff was cool and took it off of the bill, no questions asked. –Solid pour of Basil Hayden’s and ginger beer for $ 8 Misses: –Décor. What. Goes. On. In. Here. There’s an egg chair from the 70’s taking up way too much room, a teeny sushi bar, family photos, bizarre chotchkies all over the place. –The napkin set up is just f’n ridiculous(check the borderline porn pic) –Some dude walked into the bathroom while I was in there and showed me his hernia scars(true story) Somewhere in the middle: –This chicken parm story… Me «We’ll have the chicken parm.» Waiter«We have that?» Me «Yep, it’s right here on the menu» Waiter«Oh» Me «Uh oh. Should I still get it?» Waiter«Yes, it’s excellent» lol

Sugo! Where have you been all my life?!! I have finally tried Sugo! First of all, great wine and beer selection. The food knocks it out of the park each and every time. And… each time, you have different food to choose from because the menu changes daily! You can go online and see what they are serving before you go if you’d like, too! Each time I go, I cannot help but to order whatever scallops they’re serving. Always a-ma-zing. New favorite dessert? Well, it’s served here of course! They bake a cookie in a small personal pan, serve it a la mode while the cookie part is still warm, soft and just plain delicious. Of course, I can’t have this each time I come just because of calories, but boy was I glad that I tried it! The servers are always super friendly and attentive. Décor is fun and very often there is live music playing! Thank you, Sugo!
