This is a cool place to play if you’re a jazz musician. The place holds about 150 people. The food isn’t bad either. A good 30 bucks you can have a nice time.

came here on a Fri night with a couple friends after having drinks at Congregation Ale House next door. it was a great time, drinks, music, dancing, i think there was even a rapper on stage with his stunna shades on! clean — cheap drinks — a fun time! then again, i am easily pleased… maybe i was far too wasted. but nonetheless — FUN CASHONLY

I went to this cool spot back in July of last year; a childhood friend is in a band and was playing that night. I have to say, I really like this place! It’s unique. It’s very roomy and even if the place is packed(as it was that night) there was plenty of move-around room. There was only a couple of things that were off-one was there is zero ventiliation inside the place, but you can go outside, and another was it is a very long room and the stage area is tiny. Seems they left a lot of open space. Drink prices are average/comparable to other bars. I would definitely go again. One kinda weird note-I totally loved the bathroom. For a bar, actually for any business, it has to be one of the coolest bathrooms I’ve ever been in. Cool art on the walls and clean/fresh too!

Is this place still open??? It’s tucked in under Congregation Ale House. Went here for a private party. Nice place actually but kind of small. Theres a small stage for live music as well.

i’ve always wondered what the Cellar is like inside. i never knew it was a functioning venue. i believe Jazz artists often use the venue for performances, but I am not 100% sure. i went to the Cellar last night for a holiday party and was very much impressed. I loved the black booth-style seating and shiny wooden table tops. i loved that it looks like a chic jazz club with a stage low enough to be in the band’s face. There is a full bar and a wait staff. I was a little disappointed by a waitress who had serious attitude and was rude to our table. i am not sure why there was such a disconnect but she made it a point to ignore our table after asking if we would like drinks. i hope you are reading this, blonde girl with the red sequin bolero jacket. I don’t know what crawled up your ass when we responded YES to more drinks… You should have checked your ‘tude at the door before going into work. Other than that, i think i would definitely be back for a night cap and some soothing jazz tunes. I really think this place could add some value to the music scene and nightlife in downtown Long Beach.

Please note* I was born and raised in Long Beach, CA so I am somewhat biased to LBC based businesses. With that said, I love the venues at the Cellar! Last night I went and listened to a band from the beautiful island of Guam called DUB! They rocked it! This place is great for small concerts, inexpensive drinks and down-to-earth people. If you’re ever visiting downtown LBC check this place out!

Went here on a Friday night to hear my uncle and cousins play and sing– The music was great– The venue– ‘intimate’ which is code for small, but they really utilized and were creative with their space. The seating area was great. They have a nice lounge area with leather sofas, a dining area with tables and chairs, and booths against the wall, and bar area with plenty of stools My dad and sis’ never had an Adiós MF– so they were excited and only paid $ 8 which I think is pretty good. I, of course, had a diet coke :) Overall it’s your classy dark bar with great jazz/funk/groove– I’d go back.

Parking was very close and cheap which was definitely a plus on a Saturday night. It was only $ 4! I had to circle the block a couple of times to find it though, because there weren’t any signs directing me there. The crowd was cool. It seemed like there were a lot of females there which is great for the fellas, but not so much for me. This was also a rare night where I DIDNOT get a drink: o My friends did have drinks, but did not seemed impressed. Another important note was that the Cellar is located below street level(duh) and there are stairs and an elevator to get up and down. Finally, the music… I was personally not impressed with the DJ that was there that night. We loving called him«DJ Hot Mess». The music never got to a real«dance-able» level… it was all too mellow for my tastes. And songs were being played multiple times within the hour! I hear«Hey Daddy» by Usher ATLEAST3 times and I was only there for a few hours. No bueno. I was definitely glad I didn’t have to pay a cover since I was on the guestlist. Would I return? Ummm, probably not. Stairs Music

Here is the deal with the Cellar in LB! Food is amazing… good BBQ and delicious sides! Parking can be trying… but where isn’t it in Downtown LB… so those who know the area… already know this! The Bands are FANTASTIC!!! Went there to see an amazing R&B Band called ASIZ… the acoustics was great and the band was off da chain! In fact, I will be going back this weekend… ASIZ is performing again!!! This place really is reminiscent of the old dark clubby places that you used to find Jimmy Hendrix and the like playing… don’t miss out on The Cellar… you will not be disappointed!

First visit here back in June, for Latin Guitar Fest Nite for SoCal members.(see photos: ) Major dig the dark, clubby, slick beatnik vibe when descending down to almost secret-underground, bat-cave, lair-like feel. Reminds me of La Cave of Costa Mesa or The Crocker of L.A. Excellent acoustics for music & good southern BBQ on top patio. Drinks though, yike-zees…reg. Heinken $ 5/bottle. Stick to standard tasty cosmo $ 8/glass — takes a little more effort to make. Plus sweet Joe bartender/owner? hooked our table up w/plenty more house shots — WEWUVMR. J!!! Awesome fun crowd; came here w/2best gfs & made more on the way out! ;)

If the Cellar went with a 1920’s Gangster theme, this place would be perfect. There is no storefront and it makes me feel like Michael Jackson in Smooth Criminal. I can’t help but half dance down the metal stairs and go for a crotch grab at the landing. OWWW! I think the New Age feel decorations feel a little bit off, Clean white lines in a brick basement? Black lights and a stage that makes every artist cramped? I’m biased though because i think the place should take a cue from the Video so i could live out my Smooth Criminal Fantasies. I’ve been here primarily for fundraisers and other community events so + to management for supporting the community. — For placing the bathroom access RIGHTBYTHESTAGE. Every time someone needs to use the Jon, they have to walk in front of the artists. «attention everyone, I need to pee.» Average priced drinks, nothing special about the bar. For the heavy drinkers who can’t see too good, watch out for the darkly lit poles. This place has a lot of potential if they change the things that don’t work, and play up it’s unique attributes.

Came here yesterday for the Tour De Artistes Benefit show and had a pretty decent time. We watched some great bands and ate some good food. The venue is pretty big and has ample sound(ok really loud mind blowing speakers) The drinks were a lil pricey and I wasn’t impressed with the bartenders. Didn’t offer an orange with my Hef and didn’t know how to make an Old Fashion… 2 strikes for that but in consolation they were very friendly. All the staff was extremely friendly. I also think that this place is great for being so involved for the 2nd time with the tour de artiste event. A nice place to hide on a hot summer day.

Parking sucked. We parked behind the place thru an alley for $ 4. The food smelled good though there was nothing on the menu for me and I was most definitely not hungry so it doesn’t matter. The food just smelled great. I went there to hear some friends play some music. It was a nice venue. Id definitely come back. There was not too many people there but I like the dance floor for myself so a gay time was had :) I forgot how many drinks I ordered but I spent more money than I wanted to. Too many people bought me drinks too. I became overwhelmed and a tad bit hung over. *if you decide yo purchase a drink for someone out of the kindness of your heart — why not ask them what they’re drinking before you order? That tequila put me where I didn’t want to go. All night I was sipping vodka(ok i was gulping) and then I have three tequila shots in my face with salt. ugh — my life is so hard FML* I remember singing all the way to LA. I think I remember liking that place. I definitely had fun.

We were here on a Tuesday night for a friend’s b-day. We liked that the bar/club is one level, underground. It really makes you feel like you’re walking into a cellar… it’s a laid back spot! It wasn’t super packed, but there was a good crowd for a Tuesday night. There was live music and it was open mic night. There was plenty of good talent and energy! The MC did a really good job of keeping the energy alive and interacting well w/the crowd. The food was good… average price was about $ 10 for appetizers. The appetizer plates were pretty big. We definitely recommend the BBQ chicken wings and quesadillas. We parked across the street for $ 5, but if you’re lucky, you might find street parking. It’s a cool place if you’re looking to have some drinks and listen to good music on a boring Tuesday night. — Reviewed by: Marcia & Alfonso

My uncle is a long time blues artist who’s been performing in clubs, backyards, and everything in between for over 45 years. The cellar presented an event with bringing him and the best of southern style blues artist in the Los Angeles area to perform live under one roof. The Cellar is located in downtown Long Beach next to the Blue Café and adjacent to Cohibas Cigar Lounge. Parking is not good near the facility for $ 10 a car, but I found a non secured $ 4 parking lot one block away on Long Beach Blvd/Broadway. The door fee was $ 15 that night, and the place was packed with not enough chairs or space to accommodate the amount of people there. The drinks were amazingly strong from 2 out of 3 bartenders, and the crowd this night were the old schoolers(people 40 and up), which is cool with me because they never let me down as far as being an entertaining bunch of people. The BBQ chef had the BBQ pit going and serving up some Memphis style BBQ, and the chairs, tables, floor, and bathroom was clean. The staff is very cool and accommodating especially the old lb state PBSigma homeboy. Overall the Cellar is a cool spot for small groups and couples with similar music interest, great for alcoholics, and great for BBQ lovers. I don’t see myself frequenting the cellar, but for the right event, i would definitely come back.

More Burlesque… I’ve seen a lot more lady-skin than man-skin these days! No, I’m not batting for the same team. I still like the cock. This is a new speakeasy in Long Beach, offering live music, a RAD dj that played songs from Siouxsie to Danzig to the Smiths to Chromeo(he also dj’s at the Beauty Bar on Sundays), damn-strong drinks filled to the rim with the liquor of your choice and a splash of mixer… all for the low price of $ 5 – 6(3 – 4 drinks could easily be equivalent to 5 – 6 by the Cellar standards with as much liquor they pour — trust me I learned my lesson that night!)!!, cool ass bartenders and patrons and last but definitely not least, hot burlesque dancers! Parking structure next door for 10 bones or street parking if you get lucky. NOTE: watch the liquor intake otherwise you might have your friend Amy stop every mile so you can puke out of the car and more when you get home and stay in bed hungover all the next day and flake out on all your friends… Hypothetically speaking of course… ehem… .

The only good thing about the cellar is that I met the awesome bouncer from St. Louis, and he cooked me fucking awesome wings. No sauce, just spice. I like spice. The chicken wings were so good I thought about letting him be my baby daddy. But, I don’t want a trip to the Maury show. Minus a few points for the creepy old dudes hitting on Andrya and I, how hot it was, the bitchy barmaid, and some dude telling us to «Wrap it up» at 1am. Eff you. It’s a bar. You should close at 2am. Andrya, thanks for paying my cover and getting me a drink.

I really like this place. Like Janie S. said, the bar and security staff are friendly. I really like the seating — how you can choose from booths along the wall, tall tables or the more intimate little tables around the stage. I don’t drink so as usual, I can’t judge or rate the drinks but my cranberry juice with lots of lime was tasty. I think the only thing that would make this place better would nbe if the bathroom could be moved. It’s awkward for people to always have to walk right by the stage to go to the restroom.

There are differences between a cellar and a basement in a house, and there are definitely differences between the Basement and the Cellar(both clubs in Long Beach). While both establishments require you to go down a somewhat steep flight of stairs to enter, the Cellar is more like the DIY job your dad did in refinishing the basement into a place where you could hang out with your friends after school and not make your mother crazy. It’s nice, but not too nice: lots of tables, concrete floors that have been painted & sealed, a good dance floor and stage. Drink prices are reasonable, and apparently this place was selling Pabst Blue Ribbon for $ 4.50 for a hot minute, then had the presence of mind to drop it to $ 3.50. If I drank PBR, this would make me very happy. I got a well gin & tonic here for $ 5.50 and that made me fairly happy, so it all balances out. As for the bathroom, this has got to be one of the nicer bathrooms in a Long Beach club. Clean, big, smelled good when I was there. Caryl will love it.

Im not really a down town kind of girl, but if I were, this would be my new favorite spot… I like it better than the Blue Café, AND the basement, even though to me, the concept is similar. I like how spread out it was… plenty of booths and seating against the wall, small tables in the middle, a long bar, and still plenty standing room in front of the stage… OH and the stage… It was very nice… I could see the bands no matter where I was standing… The sound was excellent… The outside patio was huge, similar to blue café, and you CAN bring your drinks in and out… And last but not least, you filthy alcoholics… Well drinks are $ 5.50…Higher then what my broke as is used to, BUT cheaper then Blue café and the basement. I will def. be taking more walks to downtown for this place.
