The Stave Bar

If I could give TEN stars made of gold I would for this place, for the following reasons:
1)They have my beer
2)They have an awesome jukebox
3)They have food from Michael’s down the road; also cheese and crackers and deli meats but GOOD cheese and crackers and deli meats.
4)If you come, you’ll meet the most interesting people ever, and that’s saying a lot from someone from LA. Seriously, from politicians to airline pilots.
5)Best of all-​THE STAFF!!! I’ve never been to a bar that has had such a cool crowd as that group. They’re genuine.
Overall, excellent service, fun and funny servers who know exactly what their doing, and a really cool atmosphere. Truly, the best bar on the West Coast if not the nation. What more would one want?

Chill bar with an array of drinks! I love the marble tables in the back where I sat with my friends. My friend order us the whiskey sours here since he said they make it really good and actually use egg whites instead of a mix of some sort. Presentation was on point with an abstract design made from cayenne? paprika? on top of the foam from the drink. It was a nice refreshing drink with a nice tart finish in the end. Don’t try to down it! It’s a good sip-​sip type of cocktail. Also, there was a candle burning in the women’s bathroom that made the bathroom smell nice which you don’t see in the restrooms.

Love this place! Tania, Tobie, and Karen always make me feel welcome and provide perfect service!
Come here for the best whiskey sour in town

I’m a man who likes his whisky neat. However, whenever I come here I always get their whiskey sour. I never drink mixed at other bars but I am not only quick to order one here, I have told everyone I know about the best whiskey sour I’ve ever had from The Stave. It’s a classy place which obviously comes at a higher price. I highly recommend this place if you are into having a fine drink with a fine atmosphere that does not breathe heavily of cheap alcohol and tastes. I just came back from drinking here and Brian was especially awesome. He shared with me the recipe for their whiskey sour. I’ll definitely attempt to make my own, but I will continue to attend this bar.

Great place for whiskey!!! We met some friends and enjoyed drinks for a few hours. The drinks were really strong and the ingredients and herbs tasted wonderful!
The staff was very nice and helpful. Explaining about all the different herbs and spices and and natural juices combined with the whiskeys.
Not the typical young crowd. Mix of ages and cool people into classical cocktails…

This place is awesome. I been coming here since it open a few years ago. The bartenders and waitresses are also awsome and down earth. Drinksbare made great and a good staff. Must try grape fruit old fashion. Btw let Zack the door man Morgan said wutsup!

Let me start by saying that I am a creature of habit. You give me good service, good drinks/​food and good atmosphere and I will keep coming back. I found this place after moving to Long Beach over a year ago. I have started my night here many many times. And in August, I had my pre-​Birthday party here. I loved this place!
Tonight, I came with a few friends for an after performance (at Harvelles) drink. It was busy but not crowded. We found a seat and waited for the waitress. We waited and waited. Finally the waitress came by but only took halfway of the tables drinks. Being over waiting until she came back, I decided to go to the bar. When she did come back with the ordered drinks, she told them that I could just stay at the bar to order. Really?
We all had one drink and were getting ready to leave when my friend spotted a guy with his back to us dressed up in an awesome holiday outfit. We instantly decided we had to take a photo with him. My other friend noticed that the tag on the outfit was out and reached over to fix it. Then she adjusted her flash to take the photo. And out of no where, the «waitress» starts yelling at us about taking a photo of a special needs person. Wait how are we suppose to know this information? Before we could respond, she walked away. We all were clearly upset at being yelled so I asked for a manager. He came and we all explained what had happened. As we finished our accounts, the bouncer (who is always there every time I’ve come) tells us we have to leave due to complaints. Mind you, we had one drink each. As we reluctantly leave, the people on the patio started telling us how mess up it was that we put a sticker on the back of a special needs person. WE DID WHAT!!! This «waitress» in no time flat had made up an insane story about is to get us kicked out. This is such a sad event. Like I said before, I loved this place but after tonight — I just can’t. I believe in Karma so this «waitress» will get her come upings.
In my opinion, this bizarrely pathetic and angry blonde woman — «waitress» — should be watched very carefully. You too could be yelled at and kicked out of The Stave for her lies. Beware…
But I hope your time at this would be wonderful establishment is better than ours was. It was good while it lasted.

I really like this bar usually my to go bar. I would say they have good brands of alcohol. Has a sophisticated vibe to it nothing crazy what so ever. Bartenders are amazing. Specially this older gentlemen who is a bartender always makes my cosmos amazing …

We came here for drinks with friends while we were in town for a few days. The atmosphere was cool, and they had a great upscale drink selection. Lots of whiskey choices, and a decent array of craft beers as well. We sat in the outside patio area, which was nice. There was a fire going to keep us warm from the cool night air, and we had 2 very attentive servers who made sure to take care of us throughout the night.

Good beer selection. Lots of whiskey and scotch. Just snacks, no kitchen, but you can order pizza from a nearby joint.
Happy hour doesn’t include the good draft beers.

Being from Chicago, I was missing my whiskey bars when I moved to California. I went to this place an immediately fell in love. BEST old fashioneds in Long Beach. I’ve been here several times and never had anything but great drinks and good service. And by «good» I do not mean fast. They take their time to make their drinks right so you will wait, but when you get your drinks they are great.
There’s always room outside by the fire tables (however you call them). One or two times me and my group were turned away because they were too busy. But, I always come back. Last time I was there I ordered the artichoke dip and pita chips. Delicious as well. Can’t beat this place.

MADE ME SICK
So I drove down to long beach go meet a friend for dinner or something small to eat. We walked around a bit looking for something but everything just seemed unreasonable. We finally came across The Stave which looked like a cool whiskey place and I’m a whiskey guy so what the heck and they had some small plate stuff.
To make it short, we order a cheese plate and the spinach artichoke dip with jalapeño. The artichoke dip came out and I was immediately concerned as they dip spilled out the side of the glass dish. It was obviously microwaved minutes before. We were hungry so we started to eat it, the dip was maybe luke warm to say the least, mostly cold. I immediately started to feel uncomfortable. The cheese and meat platter that we ordered came out after. The platter was fine except the description on the menu didn’t really coincide with the cheese that we received so it was even questionable if we got what we ordered. Now my friend is a big cheese guy and explained that the platter itself wasn’t even set up correctly as a cheese platter should be. I told him in sure the guy in the back hasn’t a clue about how to get it up cause it sure didn’t look like it.
By this point my stomach is just feeling horrible, I told my friend I had to leave cause I’m feeling really sick, I started sweating and getting a migraine, I had to drive another 25 minutes back to Hermosa and immediately was over the toilet throwing up… puked my guts out.
Come on guys, have a better food menu and take pride in it. Made me sick

5 stars for atmosphere, but 1 star for service, but only from one particular bartender in general. I’m a bartender and understand how some managers really take to Unilocal,so I don’t want to call anyone out to get them In trouble… But this particular guy was a complete ass. A different bartender, a Latino gentleman, was so nice and accommodating. Thank you for making me consider coming back.
Also, the guy working the front checking IDs was so nice and polite and should be given a raise.

Roomies and I go here often for a draaank and it’s a cool place. Located in downtown Long Beach and right across from Wockano. Great location, very cool vibe and décor inside. Staff has always one of the big reasons we come here, bartender and waitresses are always friendly and give us good pours.
Outdoor area is way cool with a fire table and lots of seating. We usually post up there and can easily kill a couple hours and a couple drinks here. Whiskey selection is really deep and the bartenders know all about the different types and can help you select what’s right for your taste. One complaint, food is limited to pizza delivery from the place a few doors down but it looks like they have room for a kitchen. They probably would stay more busy if they came up with a small menu.

Awesome spot! Service was on point and the drinks were great. We went on a Thursday and their special is 20% off a certain section of drinks. YESSSS!
Try the «Gold Rush» if you ever visit! definitely a gem.

I really enjoyed this place. With a cool atmosphere (half indoors, half out) and a large variety of drinks, I was definitely not disappointed.
Drinks are slightly pricey, but I suppose that’s to be expected in the area.
You can also order pizza, which I guess they then get from a nearby pizzeria — though it didn’t feel like it took a long time.
We got the margherita pizza, which was decent enough.
I’ll definitely be coming back when in Long Beach!

Thought this place is a wine bar, it turns out to have more choices in liqueur than wine. Not so much choices of food. But I am fine with snacking through my lunch little by little. I had the spinach, artichoke and Parmesan dip. One kind of soft/​sweet goat cheese, the other one is a close specie to a Parmesan cheese.
I have never thought that I could get full just by sampling the food. Well, the meet and boards are a healthy amount :)

I like this place. It’s coo and has a slight more mature crowd than some of the other bars in the area. If you’re a whiskey fan then this is the place. Their menu doubles as guide on the definitions of whiskey and bourbons etc. They also have a pretty good selection of Sake and beers too. They have a great out door patio space with heaters and fancy stone fire heater for those chilly beach nights. I like this place and look forward to coming back soon.

This spot here is my sh**!*(be aware i am a couple bourbons in.) From specialty coctails, to traditional favorites. They have everything. Specializing in bourbons and whiskeys they still have a good selections of vodkas and gins.
I’ve been here a handful of times and can say service is far beyond great. Everyone goes out their way to ensure you as a guest are satisfied. Highly recommend if in the neighborhood. My favorites include buffalo trace and Blantons! Drink them how you will (preferably on the rocks, neat, or manhattan) enjoy!

Nice place. I was incredibly impressed by the whiskey selection. I mean, it is a whiskey bar after all.
One of the things I enjoyed the must was the big communal tables which forced to you to share and meet people.
