In town on business, staying at a hotel on Pacific Coast Highway, I was looking for a restaurant within walking distance when I stumbled onto The Crooked Duck. After a long work day, you’ll immediately feel at home here. Friendly staff, family atmosphere, great service, quality fare, and reasonable prices. I had fish tacos and a side of sautéed spinach that was nicely prepared, flavorful and just what the doctor ordered. Many of the clientele seem to know the staff and that helps to make the Crooked Duck seems every more homey. I’d love to try their breakfast, but alas am departing early tomorrow. I’ll definitely return the next time I’m in LB!

Such a small place with a lot of delicious food! I had the Breakfast Burger with a side of breakfast potatoes, and I just loved the presentation and the flavor of the food overall! The servers were very social and provided excellent customer service. I’ll definitely be coming back here!

First time there today and won’t be my last. Owner Joseph hands on deck and very attentive to detail and quality service. Energetic atmosphere for a Sunday morning. Mango Mimosas, Kentucky Biscuit & Egg Breakfast recommend.

While the food here is good and the servers are nice and attentive the upcharges and smaller portions is what will keep me from coming back. Long Beach is full of great breakfast places with well sized portions and amazing food so I’m not hard pressed for a breakfast place for sure. Great example, I ordered a breakfast burger but wanted to switch the meat with a veggie patty. Of course they wanted to upcharge to the veggie option which is cheaper for them. By BF ordered the huevos rancheros and it was at least half size of any other portion we have seen. It was good but didn’t even include the traditional tortillas or toast, only upcharge if you wanted them.

Hello Hazlenut coffee! Great breakfast spot. The coffee here is excellent and you can purchase it to brew at home. The Dos Huevos Rancheros and the Western Omelet are both really good! Personally I dig the classic and alt rock that is usually playing. It’s not too loud though if it’s not your thing. Get here early as the wait gets longer the later you arrive. Limited parking. Very small free lot or street parking.

The Bloody Mary was amazing. We ordered Cobb salad, BLT sandwich, caprese sandwich, sweet potato fries. And all of them were YUMMY!!! Great happy hour menu and price!

My wife and I finally got a chance to check this place out. The staffs were polite and nice. At the time that we went there was no wait. I had the Reuben and my wife had the Monte Cristo sandwich. After reading all the great reviews on Unilocal about this restaurant I could not wait to dig in and eat my sandwich. The Reuben’s corn beef was tender and moist, but it was a little disappointing that the bread was hard and the flavors were a little bland. I only ordered it because everyone was hyping it up so much. My wife had her sandwich the Monte Cristo, which was also a favorite on Unilocal postings only to find it soaking in oil and not much flavor. Yes, I know that fried equates oil, but I have had fried sandwiches before and they were not as GREASY. The preserve berry jam that came with the sandwich didn’t even mask the oiliness of the sandwich. Maybe the breakfast is much better, but the lunch was surely not worth the price and time.

Enjoyed my first visit to this small yet unique establishment offering great service, great breakfast and delicious bfast drinks on a Wednesday morning. My daughter, 2 toddler granddaughters and I were very well treated with a warm welcome by a nice gentleman(who is probably a Manager/Owner) and an awesome server. We had their delicious bfast special, an authentic Mexican chorizo scramble. The girls gobbled down their French toast with bacon and enjoyed their diluted OJ which was all recommended by our server so was so very attentive and personable. We also enjoyed their amazing Mango Mimosa and Spicy Bloody Mary. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you and keep up the fantastic work!

Great stop for breakfast and brunch! The place is medium size, with a big and long side patio. The décor is very nice, with a waterski theme. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. It was delicious! The gravy is a sausage gravy, and the eggs very good size, not the standard one you get a a chain dinner. The sourdough toast was really good and with tons of butter! $ 14.00 for a Chicken Fried Steak and two eggs may sound a bit too much, but the portions are worth the price. My only con would be their Arnold Palmer: weak and made with pink lemonade. Other than that, really good food, decent prices and the service was good too, but figure out the daily specials on your own, because nobody told me what they were!

This would have been easily a 4.5 stars place if it was t for server –Alyssa – . The last 3 times i have been here she has –sadly– been my waitress. Terrible service by her, for some reasons this treatment seems to be directly to me. What do i mean by «terrible» service? She takes me to my table, offers me coffee and thats it! She doesn’t tell me the daily specials that this place offers, shes doesn’t ask if everything is ok, she doesn’t offer me some water, i never get a coffee refill offered by her, she doesn’t get me additional napkins, she doesn’t even look at me to see if i might need something!!! Did i mentioned that this last time 1÷6÷15 all of this happened while she was having a nice conversation with the guys in the table behind me? There is no excuses like«she didn’t saw me» etc!!! Food is good, coffee is better and the rest of the staff is cool. I have come here enough times to know what I’m saying. IF i ever come back and she is the one that is going to be my waitress i will ask her to move me elsewhere that i don’t have to deal with her. Get rid of ALYSSA and this review will turn into a 4.5 stars!

Got a joeys Italian sausage egg white scramble and hibiscus mimosa. Mimosa was on point and food was superbly portioned. Scramble was warm not hot but country potatoes and biscuits and gravy were fabulous! Definitely a worthwhile stop for breakfast.

Finally ate here! It’s a small restaurant and parking is a bitch! Surprisingly I got parking in the neighborhood during Xmass Week. Everything looked delicious! I ordered the waffles but they came out I bit too crispy. My boyfriend order the crooked duck special and he devoured it! Im definitely coming back again for breakfast, if I can find parking.

After hearing about this place for years, I finally got the chance to dine at The Crooked Duck with a friend on Christmas Eve. We got there around 9am, and had no wait. I got a hazelnut coffee and the Italian scramble with an English muffin. My friend tried their malted waffle with cinnamon bananas. The scramble was tasty &the potatoes were cooked just right(just needed a dash of salt), but the biscuit was just alright. It kinda tasted like a biscuit from KFC. My friends waffle was also just alright. Unfortunately she put a lot of the banana compote on top of her waffle, which made it soggy. I was also unable to taste any malt? Or maybe my expectations were just off. Service was quick and friendly. Coffee was refilled often. I would love to come back and try their duck dishes. Until next time, Ducky…

Stopped in an early morning — had to drop Sadie off for surgery. Got a basic breakfast of eggs over medium, potatoes, and bacon with toast. It was just that basic. I had my coffee from Starbucks, so didn’t try that. The table was pretty sticky and the flies were out. I really was having a hard time enjoying breakfast, as I love a basic breakfast, the arse sitting next to me kept using fu@$ and fu@#ing every other word. I curse and call, but really, the entire patio kept looking at him. Then, when he left, he lit up his cigar, right in front of the patio. I get that you’re on the side walk, but we’re in your path… but anywho, that arse isn’t driving my review… it was just basic overall. I will have to go back and try one of their specials. But would go again, even if it were just for eggs and bacon.

The food was great, but our service was horrible. Out of 7 tables, it took over 20 minutes to get our food boxes and get our check delivered to us. Service started out great, but when it was time to leave she just vanished. It was getting very frustrating.

High quality food with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Love their signature hazelnut coffee! Last time, I got Joe’s Italian sausage plate and this time, I got the veggie omelet. Generous portions! You will leave stuffed as a duck :)

Atmosphere: small warm house packed with tables and excellent staff Ordered items: michelades, Avocado joe and a monte cristo I can not get over this great hole in the wall in long beach. When I say small I mean tiny, but the wait and being crammed into a small table on the back porch of this house is worth it all! The staff was first off extremely nice and helpful with everything and gave us a mysterious red Christmas envelope, so we’re forced to come back by January(oh darn)! I decided I would stick with breakfast and the Manfriend got lunch so we got to try the best of both sides of the menu. The avocado joe was a perfect sized omelette with spinach, mushrooms and cheese with a whole avocado and sour cream to top and served with country potatoes. The Manfriend got the monte cristo which was almost as good as the the one from Disneyland but non the less a perfect deep fried ham sandwich served with what seemed to be homemade jam. It’s safe to say I can not wait to go back!

Really tasty quality brunch in long beach! Small restaurant tucked in a residential corner on PCH. 1.Order the bottle of champagne with mango juice($ 18) 2.Get the Kentucky biscuits and gravy with poached eggs so it’s basically a Benedict with country gravy 3. Share a monte cristo among friends so you don’t die of a heart attack but have a tasty sweet and salty treat along with your giant plate of breakfast

In a nutshell: Breakfast spot on PCH in Long Beach. Have only been here twice, but I loved this place from the get-go. The Crooked Duck is on PCH a couple blocks from the traffic circle. Small place, and it seems like it was a house that got converted into a restaurant. They offer Sunday mimosa specials after 10 or 10:30 as well… dangerous. I’ve only eaten here for breakfast/brunch, but their lunch and dinner menus look awesome. They only serve lunch/dinner items after 11:00AMFYI. Parking 2⁄5 Sucks!!! REALLY small lot(more like a driveway) in front of the restaurant, and street parking is really hard to come by. Worth the trouble, though. Ambience 4⁄5 Very cozy. When you walk into the front entrance, you’re greeted by the bar. There is a corridor and nook for indoor seating, but most seating is in the patio. Wait times can very because of limited seating. Service 5⁄5 Awesome. The owner comes by and brings out orders on occasion, and servers come by frequently for any requests like refills and the like. Food 5⁄5 Here’s what we got: Crooked Duck Omelet( ) — A– I’m not a huge fan of beans, but the duck chili here is nice and hearty. People have been known to take home cups and bowls of this goodness. Side of biscuits and gravy(also hazelnut coffee) — A( ) Biscuits were really buttery and tasty. The gravy was also quite savory. I NEVER order coffee at restaurants or in general, but I LOVE their hazelnut coffee. I think the sweetness/nuttiness of the hazelnut helps conceal the bitterness that I do not like about most coffees. Definitely worth trying. Corned Beer & Swiss Omelet( ) — A Solid. Nice thick chunks of Corned Beef, and the swiss rounded out the omelet. I personally liked the flavor of this over the crooked duck omelet… but that’s just me. Overall 5⁄5 Great service, great food, and the food comes out fairly quick. Next time, I have to try their lunch and dinner menus.
