Beautiful on the outside, comfortable and welcoming on the inside. They play music videos at a good sound level, the crowd is friendly and welcoming and the bartenders(except for one) are super friendly. This is a great place to go have an adult beverage and relax, chat with people –or not– and enjoy it. I’m new to the area and this was the third place I visited, I’ve gone back several times and will be back.

Strong drinks, Fun Karaōke on Sundays. Naked jello shot waiter and a furry wolf that hosts Karaōke, YES.

My favorite bar in Long Beach. Chill for Friday happy hour. John is one of the best bartenders around. Love his dirty martinis.

This is a great place to kick back and have a few with a group of friends. Beer selection is limited but it’s a full bar. Fair prices. Open space to dance if the mood strikes. Big patio area. Bartenders are friendly and helpful– something I don’t always get in gay bars since I’m a girl. It’s divey and I think only has one bathroom, unless a second one is hiding from me. Good neighborhood bar for our area.

Great atmosphere! It’s mostly more mature men but still fun. The staff are very friendly drinks are cheap, but strong. I usually stop here for a couple drinks, especially if you want to have a conversation with those who are with you. Music volume is perfect. Felix is the best and so handsome. :)

I would say 3 stars only because the restroom is disgusting. The two for one Tursfays is badass though.

Wow. I forgot that I even went here(that’s a testament to how memorable an experience it was). This encounter transpired eons ago and just when I thought I’d erased it from my mental Rolodex, I’m prompted by Unilocal to review it since I checked in. Grrrrr! This oughta be easy. What do you get when you cross the Abbey of West Hollywood with uhm… say, Hunters(on Bear Night) in Palm Springs? Taaa Dahhh! You get The Silver Fox! Located on Redondo in a fairly decent area of Long Beach lies this hole in the wall of a hookup spot perfect for retirees and the twinks looking to milk them of their SSI. While everyone including the bartenders are friendly, this is kinda’ more or less one of those spots you go to when you’re flat broke, the Golden Girls aren’t airing repeat episodes and you’ve wallowing in a pill induced /Vicodin filled and comatosed stage of self regret. That… or your Jack’d account is disabled. The drinks here don’t disappoint by any means –YET – , I can’t at all see anyone traveling for them. The only upside to any such experiences I’ve had here would be accompanied by the drinks being free(if not drastically reduced in price) upon successful completion of one’s karaōke performance; a definite incentive. There is plenty of street parking and a private lot across the street however an additional bummer would be that despite having a patio, drinks are prohibited there. #WTFisthepoint Seating is a joke as most chairs possess no backs and of course the bar is always inundated with begging booze bottoms in search of a stiff drink or an even stiffer alternative. I suppose a visit here depends on your taste. As a result of my having been here previously, I’d much rather dehydrate.

Cancelled First Fridays at Silver Fox jazz nights without any notice. Wow. I had a group of people ready to. come out and enjoy a nice evening. Their replacement of music videos doesn’t cut it. Not coming back until there is First Friday Jazz again.

First time at this bar last night and first gay bar I’ve been to in LB. Guys were really nice and the bartenders weren’t pretentious douchebags. Not a lot of dancing, but more of a mingling crowd. Nice patio out back for some fresh air. Mixed crowd and interesting people. Drink prices were half the price of Weho! Will be visiting again :)

Ah, the Silver Fox. With its glamours Art Deco façade it looks like it’d be a really fancy joint inside too, but it’s not, lol. That said, it doesn’t mean it’s all shabby or anything inside – it’s clean and quite roomy. I’ve been several times and it’s a fun place to hang out. The last time I was there there was quite a dance party in effect! The bartenders are always friendly, and as with most bars in Long Beach, the drinks are stiff. If you need to get yo gay bar on on the corner of Redondo of 4th, this is the place for you :)

I love this bar… doesn’t matter if you are gay or straight everyone is so friendly and awesome. Also the bartenders sure know how to pour a stiff one.

This is in response to jennifer p’s comment. Let me start by saying that I have been a regular at the Silver Fox for the past 10 years. It is simply my favorite spot for drinks, music, and conversation. I was also there the night jennifer p had her incident. When the other customer discovered her wallet was missing we ALL were asked if we had seen it. Jennifer P had walked out front and the bartender went to ask her about it. She then exploded. We could hear her yelling inside the bar. The girl who’s wallet was missing told the bartender to let it go and everyone returned inside. About a minute later jennifer p came back into the bar to confront the other girl. The bartender asked her to leave while she continued to scream expletives. She refused to leave and then slapped the bartender across the face. Nobody chased her out. When you assault someone, you will be escorted out. No questions. And yes, she should be embarrassed by her actions. That said, this was not a normal night at the Silver Fox. It usually goes like this: daily happy hour prices are cheap and the drinks are stiffer than anything you’ll find in Weho. There’s a birthday jackpot drawing at 7pm every night. I’ve won it once and got almost $ 300! Karaōke on Sundays & Wednesdays can get quite packed. Tuesdays are the best day for drinks because they are 2-for-1 all night long. DJs on Friday & Saturday and dancing sometimes happens when the right group of people are there. Holiday parties are always busy especially Halloween & Christmas. For Christmas there is a huge(free) buffet for all customers that donate toys to Toys 4 Tots. And unlike many other LB bars, parking is available in the lot across the street. I find it funny that a lot of reviews say this is a bar for older men. I guess if most of those Unilocalers are 21 – 25 then yes, there are«older» men here. I’ve been a customer since my early 30s and have made many friends here. Yes the carpet is «colorful», yes the bathrooms are ready for an update, and yes sometimes the A/C needs to be turned on full blast. More importantly, for me, the people there are good people. People from all walks of life. People of all ages. People who know my name. And isn’t that where everybody wants to go? Cue the«Cheers» opening music …

We ended up here on a Sunday night before Christmas. It was karaōke night. It was festively decorated. Although it was primarily gay males here, everyone was fun and welcoming to 3 girls. The doorman was fun to chat with. The TVs had kitschy music videos playing. The drinks are very affordable. Only down vote was that it was super warm inside. But the patio gave good relief.

I’ve never had a bad experience here. I’d recommend it to anyone who wants to drink & have a good time. It’s simple, friendly, & there to get you going! I lived very close to this bar, so I enjoyed frequenting it for a while. If you are a regular customer & get to know the bartenders, they warm up to you quickly. I enjoy the atmosphere because it’s a great place to get to know people. It just depends on what you’re looking for. Drinks: 7⁄10 The drinks are mixed well. I haven’t had a Long Island or AMF that was too sweet. The well-drinks(e.g., Vodka Tonic, Jack & Coke) are great – but you can’t really screw those up! Service: 7⁄10 When it’s a Friday/Saturday night, you’ve got to be patient. They try their best but there’s usually only 2 bartenders back there. There are a few bartenders who cater to certain types of customers, so just be ready for that, and they’re there on Fridays/Saturdays with the younger crowds. That being said, I haven’t had any problems getting them to make a drink for me in 5 minutes or less. And, on top of it, they’re very friendly. Parking is very tough around this area. It’s downtown Long Beach, so expect to walk a little bit to get here from your spot. Ambiance: 6⁄10 They could stand to update the décor a little bit; yet, a lot of patrons have been coming here for decades so they prefer it to remain the way it is. I, personally, wish it had a cleaner look – it kind of reminds me of how a bowling alley used to look in the early ’90’s. Still, it’s got plenty of seating and it’s not super-loud on the weeknights; weeknights are great nights for a «happy hour.» The only thing I’d criticize is the theme of the bar. It is attracting a younger crowd from the outside, but shining them on from the inside. Younger crowds are expecting a «chill» place to meet eye-candy & hear modern music – you don’t get this at the Silver Fox(unless it’s a Friday/Saturday night, and even then, it’s not guaranteed). Instead, it’s a Hodge-podge of 80’s music with the occasional Top-40 hit here & there. If this is your scene, you will feel right at home.

My friends and I were down there for a friends’ going-away celebration and had quite a bad experience at this place. The bartenders were very rude, and 1 of them completely ignored us and just leaned against the bar watching TV, and had to wait to be tended by another. I got an attitude for requesting a V. Pina Colada, which they didn’t even have«enough ingredients to make», and my friend tried ordering something, and they«don’t make that drink their either». So I ended up settling for Pineapple Juice. Atmosphere there is mainly older men. They’re really nice, and couldn’t keep their eyes off younger folk. This is the place to go if you’re seeking out an older man. Possibly age range 55−60s. The main karaōke songs you’ll find are mainly outdated ones. But then again, this is a bar focused mainly on older crowd.(I didn’t know until we arrived.) I personally recommend this place only if you’re going there to find someone, not for a drink or service.

I love me some karaōke, but for some reason karaōke at The Fox doesn’t really ring my bell. But, I do enjoy a good happy hour at The Silver Fox. I mean, first of all, drinks are dirt-cheap, and on Tuesdays they are buy one, get one for $.25. You really can’t find a better deal than that in all of Long Beach. The bartenders are always quite jolly and friendly. And if you’re behind on your pop music, there’s no shortage of all the pop music(along with videos) that you’ve been missing. Like I said, I’m not much for the karaōke nights, but if you are willing to sing you do get a discount on your drinks that night too. Looking for a decent and cheap happy hour though and up for being the odd woman out in a gay bar for an afternoon? Well, then the Fox is your place.

WTF was I thinking. Strike One: It’s in Long Beach«the New Jersey of the West Coast.» Strike Two: Videos from 1997. 1987 is nostalgia. 1977 is classic. 1997 is tragic. Strike Three: A clientèle from 1997. See Strike Two. So I don’t mind a dive bar. In fact, I LOVE dive bars. But a dive bar with pretensions to be anything other than a dive bar is insufferable. And large screen videos are just such a pretension. And I don’t mind neighborhood bars, as long as they’re in my neighboorhood. Because the only reason you go to a neighborhood bar is so you can walk home if you’re too trashed to drive. But a LONGBEACH neighborhood bar? Double oy. My friend SWORE to me that there would be hot guys here. It was only later that I discovered the last time he was here, he was on his third Manhattan. I was definitely the hottest guy there which is pretty sad considering I’m WAYYY past my prime, but hey, at least I don’t smell like formaldehyde and grecian formula. I haven’t seen so many pleated Dockers in one place since I mistakenly wandered into the break room of the local Mercury Auto Insurance brokerage. And yeah, the Czech bartender isn’t bad looking, but the poor guy literally had his chin in both hands, elbows resting on the bar, with a look on this face that I could see the little cartoon bubble rising from his brain that said«You mean to tell me I left Prague for THISPLACE.» You know it’s gotta be bad when I can’t even finish my drink before leaving. Oh, and this was at 11pm on a Friday night.
