Tides is a modern American restaurant with a California slant located on the bottom level of the Hyatt Regency Long Beach. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch only. We stayed at the Hyatt for a long weekend and had breakfast at Tides three consecutive mornings. I thought the food and service here were very good. They have a breakfast menu, but we went for the buffet. It looked and smelled too tempting as we headed out from the elevators each morning(strategic placement, perhaps?). Breakfast entrees run about $ 13 – 17 each. The all-you-can-eat buffet is $ 19 per person, so it’s a better deal considering the entrée prices. We were lucky enough to have the hotel comp our breakfasts. Thank you, Hyatt! The buffet features two bars and a chef-manned omelet station. Foods I kept coming back to included the bacon, chicken sausage, scrambled eggs, skillet potatoes, quiche, cured meats(salami, pepperoni), smoked salmon with capers, red onion & chopped boiled eggs, cheese(brie), fruit(peaches, honeydew, cantaloupe), pancakes, croissants, toast, granola, yogurt, dried fruit(banana), nuts(cashews), and sunflower seeds. Generally, pretty standard stuff. Everything was delicious. I wasn’t disappointed with a single item. The bacon was lean and naturally cured. The chicken sausages were plump, flavorful, and hearty. The eggs were cage-free. The quiche was terrific — fluffy and savory. The fruits were ripe, juicy, and sweet. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to try everything. My stomach just wouldn’t allow it. If it did, I would’ve tried one of the chef’s omelets as well as the French toast with powdered sugar and perhaps a bagel. They have a nice assortment of cereal, hormone-free milk, and other fruits like apples(red and green) and oranges. The latter handy to take on-the-go. Every table has a cute stand containing an assortment of A. Darbo AG natural preserves in tiny glass jars. I loved the Darbo spreads on my toast with a bit of butter. Servers brought coffee, orange juice, and water to our table. They also took away used plates. During our three visits, the restaurant was moderately busy, mostly with fellow hotel guests. The dining room is spacious enough in case you need to bring your luggage with you. I thought the staff did a great job. They were friendly and polite, from the hostesses to the servers. The servers were speedy. The restaurant itself is located at the bottom of the escalators. The dining room has an open design with high ceilings that actually go up multiple stories. There are numerous columns that form an aesthetically pleasing, symmetrical, grid-like canopy between the restaurant level and the lobby level. The place is well-staffed, clean, and has nice views of both the Hyatt’s oasis-like pool in the foreground and the pier, lighthouse, and Pacific Ocean in the distance. It’s nice. Two-hour free parking is available with restaurant validation. You can self-park in the Hyatt’s on-site parking garage. I don’t think I would come to this restaurant if I wasn’t a guest of the hotel. However, if you are a guest of the hotel, I think this is a terrific spot to have breakfast before starting your day. If the breakfast buffet isn’t included in your hotel package, inquire at the front desk. They might be able to offer you a discount or better yet, comp your meal.

I was staying at the hotel so this was very convenient for breakfast. The service was slow and not that impressive. The food was good but overpriced as you would expect from a hotel restaurant.

The food looked and tasted like it came out of a can I had the crab omelette and it look like they mushed the crab together they also added a cold hollandaise sauce on top of it ugh. I also believe the prices are very high I looked on Unilocal and found other places across the street for half the price for breakfast this used to be one of my favorite places to come and visit when I came down to Long Beach By the way the staff not so friendly they make you feel that you’re inconveniencing them by eating there. And don’t take more than 15 minutes to eat there they will try to push you out

So I gave this hotel restaurant a try while waiting for my room to be ready. Tides is located on the level below the hotel lobby. It is very roomy and has great views of the seaside of Long Beach. The service was top notch. The wait staff was very attentive and took very good care of us. The highlight of our lunch was the chicken tortilla soup which was very good. It has a tomato base and was very delicious. The chicken was a sparse but it did have really tasty tortilla strips. We had the Pulled BBQ pork hamburger with jalapeño bacon. It was supposed to come with habanero chips but they gave is the unflavored ones to our disappointment. The pork BBQ was sparse on the burger which was another let down. They also put the BBQ on the bottom bun which turned it into mush. It should have been on top with the lettuce and tomato on top of it. The burger was good and the bacon was very delicious. We had to discard the bottom bun and cut the burger to bite size pieces. Had the added more pork BBQ and properly placed it I would have been impressed. The prices ate pretty high for what you get but it is a hotel restaurant so that is to be expected.
