UFC Gym

I really liked the atmosphere in this gym. You definitely get an amazing workout. I was dripping sweat. It’s a small gym but everything you need for a great work out is available. I did the kickboxing class today and it kicked my butt, Julio really makes you work. Raul was very helpful from the moment I walked in. He’s very nice and makes you feel comfortable right away.

The women’s shower was out of order and they have no intention of fixing it. It was obvious this circumstance has been this way for awhile. The men’s shower was unkempt and unsanitary. There was mold/​mildew on the ceiling. Picture is attached for reference. This is a health hazard. I’m not expecting luxurious gym, this is a basic necessity.
I tried to bring this to the attention of the General Manager Raul, but he brushed off my concern. The coaches are great, it’s a shame UFC gym has poor management that does not care for the facility.

My children are in the kids class and they love it. Not to mention, it’s cute to watch them try their best. The instructors are very professional and kind.

Called in from out of town trying to get information about the gym and the guy on the phone was unpleasant and unhelpful. I am aware UFC gym is a franchise business and I have learned after 4 years as a loyal customer that each location varies, thus the reason for my call. He seemed insulted that I was concerned about showers, an arm bar smoothie bar and other amenities that my home UFC gym offers. He continued to answer my questions with an attitude and defensively rather than informatively. Highly considering cancelling my membership because unfortunately Long Beach may be my only option in the near future and I was not impressed.

Now that Kevin is gone, the gym is no longer plagued with such a horrible General Manager. I can finally update my review to give this gym the rating it deserves. I’ll admit, I’m very disappointed that they took so long to get rid of Kevin, resulting in a drastic change of atmosphere at the gym. However, the new GM, Raul, is such a fantastic change compare to Kevin. I have talked with him on several occasions and its obvious that he cares about the gym, its members, and he actually knows how to run a gym.
While the gym itself is still recovering from the mess that Kevin created, it is still an excellent place to train. Its small, but very comforting as you never have to deal with such large crowds or egos. Its the best place to come if you want to lift weights as the equipment is not hogged like in big, commercial gyms. The group classes are a fun way to workout and get results, and the advanced classes have excellent instructors that are willing to teach you proper technique and sparring.
I honestly think that Raul will turn this place back into the great gym that it once was, I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a better alternative to your typical commercial gym.

I have been a member of this gym for more than 2 years now. I started with one long term contract and recently entered into another long term contract because I like it that much.
Much of my customer loyalty has to do with the current General Manager, Kevin, who is the fifth GM I have met there.
Kevin has consistently treated me with the utmost respect, as well as the other members and staff in all of my observations.
Before I first joined, I shopped every boxing gym I could find in Long Beach. UFC Gym had the most competitive pricing, and the most membership options including access to fewer clubs versus more, long term contract versus month to month, and so on.
I also found no other boxing gym with a shower, which has proven to be a valuable convenience when I have somewhere I need to be right after my workout.
Furthermore, the classes are structured in such a way that even though participants’ fitness levels may vary, each member seems to find it challenging but doable. The variety of class times and formats is nice too… I usually stick with an evening Boxing, Kickboxing, or DUT (stands for Daily Ultimate Training, comparable to a boot camp fitness class combining resistance and cardio exercises).
Although it’s a smaller gym, there is normally ample room and equipment when I’m in a class or working out on my own, which I’ve started to do more of as I train for an upcoming Spartan Race.
I actually find it big enough to vary up workouts, but small enough that it feels like a neighborhood gym where the members are there to work out and the instructors are committed, but people are generally friendly and not above cracking good-​natured jokes or having fun in the process.
Furthermore, I’ve never had issues of property theft, even when I accidentally left something behind before leaving.
On those occasions, I called and the front desk staff went out of their way to check around the gym. Then, they held it for me until my next visit. I’ve found that the front desk staff is consistently cordial in person too.
There is always ample free parking with no time limit in the lot, which is right by the gym entrance.
The workout area, restrooms, and shower are kept generally clean and orderly.
The instructors each bring their own personality and style to a class, but generally they make use of a variety of equipment and movements. Also, I find they aren’t overly pushy about selling personal training packages but still let you know it’s an option, which I like. I bought one so far, and it’s working out well.

TL;DR: Don’t join. They have shady financial practices. The gym is good though.
Don’t initiate a membership. The GM, I think his name is Kevin, is a dumbass. I went on a long trip over the summer with my family and we were supposed to have our membership fees suspended for about three months because we weren’t going to be in town. For some reason, (probably negligence or willful malevolence) we have still been charged over and over again. Attempts to get a refund have met with resistance and the assurance that they would «fix» the problem. Since the only person who can do anything with accounts is the GM, I assume that that means a new GM. Until then, we aren’t coming back.

Let’s start by saying I’m a really nice guy but not the friendliest until I’m comfortable with people. That being said, I really enjoy the UFC Long Beach. Excellent group of trainers. Hosea, Terra, Mike, Chris, Hung and Chuck are all good. My favorites are Hosea for his vast knowledge of boxing and he being a little older than me gives me a fitness goal to shoot for. Mike for his varied sessions. Comes up with new stuff all the time. Terra because she pushes you to compete with yourself and that the competition is with yourself. Everyone is at a different level health wise and we all need to be reminded.
Kevin and the coaches have created a friendly, healthy
Atmosphere.
ONLY draw back is the size of the gym. Hopefully over time and more membership will drive them to create or purchase a bigger place.
Also, going to the gym, any gym is what you make it. Chances are if you had a crappie time you created it.

Great experience from the start. GM Kevin explains the sign up process in detail and makes sure you understand the contract and what the gym has to offer. The coaches are exceptional; they will always take time to correct technique and answer any questions you may have. It really feels like a family atmosphere here. I’ve been here 3 months and it has been a worthwhile decision to join!

I became a member of UFC Gym last year because I was looking for a way to switch up my workout routine. In the beginning, it was great. I loved the challenging classes and the instructors were awesome (Jason and John were the best)! However, since I commute from Long Beach to LA on a daily basis, it became difficult for me to get home in time for the classes. It had gotten to the point where I wasn’t using the membership anymore and couldn’t justify spending $ 79/​month. I had contacted Kevin, the current manager about cancelling my membership. I came into the gym and filled out the paperwork. Since I was cancelling around the same time that my dues would come out of my account, I was advised that I wouldn’t need to pay anything extra. However, my account has been charged once again even though I did what I needed to do to cancel my membership nearly a month ago. Since Kevin started as GM the professionalism of the staff and the overall vibe of the place has changed, and not in a good way. I’m definitely content with my decision to move on to another gym.
P. S. If anyone knows what UFC Gym location Joshua Exeter is the GM at, please let me know! I would consider re-​joining at whatever location he’s at. He was the GM at the Long Beach location when I originally signed up last year.

Last week I went to the ufc gym in Long Beach and had a experience I was not expecting. When I was speaking with the manager he came off very rude with a careless approach towards me due to not wanting to sign up since I wanted to try the gym out before I made a decision. His careless attitude towards me not getting a membership was very upsetting especially since I planned to sign up. besides that the gym was very nice just need better people who cares about the members not just looking for numbers.

These guys are thieves I went there once to check it out it was supposed to be a free trial they charge me 80 dollars for one day I never even went back there and now few months later they are harassing me every week saying I owe them money wen I haven’t even been to the gym since the one time I went there I tell them to close the account they say they can’t close it till they get paid… Get paid for what!!! Biggest thieves iv ever met iv trained in a number of gyms iv never had a place try to charge me for something I don’t even use the staff here are the biggest pieces of sh*t I have ever met don’t go anywhere near this place unless you want money stolen and harassing phone calls. Worst gym I have ever been to!!! Don’t waste your time! BIGGEST MISTAKE!!!

Wow I’ve never had so much trouble with a gym before in my life. I canceled my membership in January. I checked my bank statements to find out there still charging me and while I was a member they double charged me monthly $ 60 and $ 70 payments on top on that late fees $ 20 here and there. I went in to get my money back and see what the problem is apparently nobody can help you at all if it’s not Kevin the store manager. He’s nice in person but to ignore me for months? I haven’t seen a dime, recieved any follow up on anything. This is the worst experience I’ve had with a gym in my life. It’s a scam they try and fuck people over and get there money. It happened to two of my coworkers as we’ll.

So you know the good upfront, GM Kevin was overly helpful, and made sure to correct the issues I had there. He was diligent and thorough in resolving my issue. I waited to post my review until a month went by, to be sure his assistance went through. The problem was before Kevin arrived. I was being charged monthly for my membership still, even four months after I cancelled, and had called in to ask them to remove me. After no changes, and being ignored, I personally went in. Kevin worked with me to ensure I would no longer be charged and refunded the months I had previously requested to be cancelled multiple times. He was calm, polite, and respectful at all times. While I left the gym, because I was too busy with work and life, I would happily rejoin if both service and members were always dealt with in the manner Kevin helped me.

I recently moved into the area and was looking around for a gym. After a few visits at various places I thought I would check out UFC. It was a great decision. The staff is genuinely interested in helping me get back in shape. I didn’t get the feeling that once they got my cash, you are then just another body. Hats off to the manager Kevin for running a smooth ship.

I recommend this gym to anyone trying to get into something new, get a good work out or for any health/​fitness goals. The GM Kevin Roccia is very professional and will make sure you are taken care of when you sign up. He is also personable and excellent on the mitts. I felt he gave me a good deal and always makes me feel welcomed. They have some very good instructors that are good at what they do. Sebastian and John always go out of their way to push you and work on your technique during the classes. The other instructors, Daving and Hung are good too. I consider myself to be out of shape, but these guys know how to support you the right way so you won’t quit! I also like that they switch up the schedule throughout the week.
The members here are friendly as well and no one makes me feel like if I’m in competition. Everyone seems to be here for different reasons and they all seem to always enjoy themselves. I heard they were going to make some remodeling changes next month so I’m looking forward to the new renovations.
The gym is a good size and it is never too overcrowded. If you come during times that classes are not offered you sometimes feel like you have the whole gym to yourself to hit the bag, lift some weights, or work on your cardio. I will provide an update in a few months!

Be careful and use caution if you want to join this gym. It use to be real simple and easy to join a gym, but things have changed a lot now days.
Carefully read their contract! You will see why it takes up to 20 minutes in paperwork and signatures to join, and they make you sign 6 different times. Once you join and sign, THEY OWN YOU for 2 years with no way out! If at a later time you decide you don’t like this gym and want to cancel, you are out of luck. They will not allow you to cancel, there is NO way out, which is NOT the way you want to do business at all! If you want to cancel, they will force you to pay your monthly fee x the remaining months of the contract. NO business should EVER try to force its customers to remain their customer, they are keeping you hostage until you pay the 24 months.
I signed up for membership at this place last year for 2 of my children, and they did not like it and never went back. I paid a total of $ 490 for the monthly fee, deposit, and equipment and my kids went there 2 times. I told the manager that they already profited off us big time as my kids used their gym 2 times only, so just allow us to cancel and they can keep the money. The manager would not even budge and wanted all his money.
This company is acting unconscionably by employing unfair
and overly aggressive membership billing and contract tactics! We decided not to pay and cancel their monthly charges, and when they were unable to bill you for the month, this is what will happen to you:
1. They will send you an EMAIL each day telling you to pay
2. They will send you TEXT messages on your cell phone each day telling you to pay.
3. Their corporate billing office will CALL you each day telling you to pay.
4. They will mail you letters each week telling you to pay up.
THEY WILL ANNOY YOU AND TREAT YOU WITH DISRESPECT IF YOUR MONTHLY BILLING DOES NOT GO THROUGH AND THEY DISRUPTED MY BUSINESS AT MY WORK EVERY DAY WITH PHONE CALLS, TEXTS ON MY CELL PHONE, AND EMAILS DEMANDING I PAY.
IF YOU DECIDE TO JOIN, ASK THEM WHAT THEY WILL USE YOUR EMAIL AND CELL PHONE FOR ANF HOW OFTEN THEY WILL USE IT.
No customer should ever be treated with such disrespect and overzealous collection activity, even if you are still going to the gym and your billing did not go through, this is the treatment they will put you through.
So here we are 1 year after, and this company is still sending letters from collection agencies to pay up.
I already asked them that my son did not want to continue and to just cancel our membership, and they don’t care. They already profited $ 490 from me and we used the gym 2 times only. Why cant we just cancel in PEACE!

TRY REQUESTING THEY ALLOW YOU TO JOIN ON MONTH TO MONTH TERMS ONLY, WITH A WAY TO QUICKLY AND EASILY CANCEL AT ANY TIME.
IF NOT, THEY WILL UNLEASH EVERY TOOL IN THEIR COLLECTION ARSONAL ON A DAILY BASIS AT YOU TO GET YOU TO PAY FOR 24 MONTHS OF MEMBERSHIP YOU WILL NEVER USE.

I’ve been a member for just over a year. If you’re intimidated to come in, don’t be. The classes are tough but they’re very encouraging and friendly. You’ll get a great work out and the time will fly by. The classes aren’t over crowded either.
They made some great changes recently and they’re very responsive. Any time I’ve had an issue, they’ve responded and corrected the issue. They’re interested in creating a better experience for members and I appreciate that.

This place is doing a 180. Since my last update a lot of changes have come. The new manager Josh is taking the gym to better places. However it comes just on the heels of all the hard work from Blaine and Barry.
First off things I like.
The new PT with Adam. It’s called matrix or something like that. Basically some sort of Pilates on steroids. Adam works out your upper body without you even realizing it. He is new and the training is new and it’s a great addition.
The music has gotten a lot better. No more crazy extreme rock or rap music. In fact the training has gotten so much better with the new trainers that you don’t even realize there’s music playing.
The new equipment that they have is great. The row machine all the new weights and they finally replaced the carabiners for the bags. No more worrying about the bag falling off. The new green carpet is great.
There is a lot more selection on things you can buy such as protein bars and shakes.
They finally are stocking the bathroom with plenty of paper towels and soap! Also I have not had a problem getting a sanitation wipe!
Over all cleanliness has also improved. There is a noticeable difference in how clean the carpet is. It used to be when you do Burpee’s all you got was a shirt covered in hair and dirt. Now it’s pretty much clean.
Things that still need some improvement
More and MMA classes. There just aren’t enough classes. Most people such as myself either can’t make the schedule or classes are too full.
That is really it. This club is getting better and better. It’s not only affordable but very competitive with its class schedule. Try spending upwards of $ 50 at a local Gracie barra gym and get the amount of classes available there. Granted there just isn’t enough jujitsu classes here but I already spoke about that.
Over all the energy has really gotten better. From enthusiastic instructors such as Jason and Adam this gym is getting fun.
