This a great sneaky place. Not always too busy and a multi level or 3 dimensional menu style.

Just not a good time. Waited forever for food almost 30 minutes when there was only 4 other tables, which already had food. Food was greasy and flavorless. Also. it’s a BYOB with a name that sounds like a bar. Misleading and disappointing. Just don’t go, which u hate to say about any restaurant but it wasn’t worth the $ 32, we spent. We contemplated leaving several times and we should’ve.

This place is terribly managed with a completely untrained staffed, which is unfortunate because the food is actually quite good. The flautas were cooked perfectly, the chorizo dip was decent, and I really enjoyed their rice and beans. For an entrée, I had the Combo Tropical(a bunch of grilled proteins served in a pineapple) and it was very flavorful. The dingy(and empty) room didn’t exactly make me eager to take my chances with the ceviche(one of the few choices on a very limited app menu) and for some reason they refuse to serve any red salsa. This place deserves to close but I really hope the cooks land on their feet.

Horrible experience. We went to this restaurant for the first time the other night. We had high hopes since the reviews were decent. Nice looking place, and the chips and sauces were good. We ordered tamales for starters and when they came out, we couldn’t believe how small they were. They were about 1⁄3 of the size we normally got at other restaurants. Then for the main course. I ordered the fajitas. I asked the waiter how much would it be for a combination of chicken and beef.(Chicken was about 15.99, beef $ 16.99 or shrimp $ 18.99.) The waiter said $ 18.99. I figured it should be about $ 16.99 considering there weren’t any shrimp in it… and asked why so much? The waiter said that you actually get an extra 1⁄3 of a portion when you get a combo. I thought — okay… that’s cool. I watched other people get their fajitas, and theirs seemed a bit small portion wise… but smelled good and came out sizzling. When mine came out, it was not sizzling, and I was absolutely horrified when I looked at what was in the skillet. Small chunks of dried out meat and chicken. Looked like about 10 small chunks all hidden under onions and peppers. All the chunks could have easily fit in my palm. I called the waiter over, and told him I wasn’t happy about this at all — especially for $ 18.99! Instead of being gracious, and apologetic, he became defensive. I told him I wanted to return the fajitas, as they were nothing at all what I expected, and looked barely edible. He went inside to speak to the«owners» and came back and told me that there was nothing they could do. I said I wanted something else — maybe a chimichanga. He said that would be okay… but that they would be putting the dried out chunks of meat from the fajitas and using that for the chimichanga! And that I would still be charged full price for the fajitas! Huh? My husband paid for the chimichanga that he ordered and had already eaten by this point(which sucked by the way and was very small as well) and we left. NEVERAGAIN!

I’m only giving two stars because I didn’t actually try the food but we got there after a long miserable drive, so we get there and were seated and we literally waited 10 mins for anyone to even notice or pay attention but than when someone decided to come over they told us we have no menus available??? The place wasn’t even fill how do you not have enough menus for your patrons honestly if They came over over when they sat us like hey no menus but we’ll take your drink orders for now, and we didn’t even realize it was a BYOB obviously figured they had a bar if the place was named tequila… but I was annoyed and I’m not one to complain and I have never walked out of a restaurant but I did first time here. But that’s just the service can’t comment on the food.

I went here for dinner with 3 friends because we love Mexican restaurants, and we bought a Groupon and decided to try out this place. This is the only way that I would go to this place again — with a discount because to pay full price here is totally not worth it. The service was horrible! The first waiter that came to take our drink acted like we were speaking a foreign language when we asked for iced tea — you would think that he had never heard of it before! And, he claimed that they don’t make iced tea, but he could give us flavored water that was mixed with strawberry powder — those were his words. They dropped chips on the table with a green dip, which was ok. We asked for«regular» salsa, and the waiter said, «Red salsa???», again, like he never heard of this before. He came back with red sauce that was hot(temperature — not taste), which is the sauce that goes on enchiladas. We asked a different waitress for salsa, and her response was, «We are an authentic Mexican restaurant and only serve authentic Mexican food. Red salsa is not authentic.» Ok, we didn’t know that, but what was baffling was that if they are«authentic» and only serve Mexican cuisine, how come we ordered buffalo wings? And, the nachos that came were loaded with canned cheese-wiz sauce. Is that authentic? The entrees were tasty, and the portions of the entrees were large, so there are no complaints there. No one ever came back to check if the food was ok or if we wanted refills on drinks. We had to keep flagging down different waiters to get what we needed. Instead of paying attention to customers, the wait staff was behind the«bar» that doesn’t serve alcohol taking selfies with their cell phones instead of tending to customers. Also, something that was unappetizing was watching the wait staff wash glasses as the bar with a sponge that kept getting dipped in a bucket of soapy water. I really hope that this isn’t how they clean their glasses because I highly doubt that is sanitary! And, customers shouldn’t have to watch the wait staff do dishes right out in the dining room while we are eating dinner.

Service was bad but I’ll cut the guy a break because it was his second day. He really did try although he forgot to put our appetizer in so it arrived after our meal. The buffalo wings were average at best. The chicken burritos however were awesome! We will be back, hoping the server has figured things out.

Just okay. Waitress very pleasant and accomodating. But, Guacamole pretty bland and disappointing. Enchilada mole just okay. Beef burrito just okay. It was also rather chilly in the dining room. The waitress tried to help by turning on a heater. Maybe we will go back maybe and try something else maybe not. BYOB

My wife and I went for dinner here the other night and were blown away by the food. Everything was so fresh and delicious. We got each of the variations of tamales they offer and they were so awesome you could tell they made them fresh at the restaurant. I tried the mole enchaladas and my wife had the steak chimichonga for our entrees. Everything was excellent and tasted like they really care about the flavors that their food has while they were cooking it. We will be going back and the frequent dinner card they gave to us is a nice bonus. You get a free dinner for every five you buy. They also deliver, it will be a nice change from the local pizza and chinese options that you can usually find in the area.

The service was just ok. They really try. Half way through my meal they take my empty glass of water and don’t ask or refill it. The chicken on my toastados were as dry as leather. No salsa or guacamole. Just some type of dip with chips.

I don’t normally review restaurants on Unilocal, but wanted to review this place. The food is fantastic. I highly recommend it. They seem to be aware of the complaints about the service as it is improving every time we go. Just be patient. Its well worth the wait. I bring extra beers to enjoy while waiting. If you’re unfamiliar with Central American cuisine, don’t worry. There are plenty of familiar choices on the menu. Try to experiment, tho. Some of the dishes you won’t recognize are what make Azul Tequila special. I’ve been to every Mexican Restaurant in the area, and only one, in Red Bank can compare with the food quality. In all reality, Azul Tequila deserves 4 stars. They tend to use more salt than I prefer(they will use less when asked). The service, tho improving, is still not 5 star quality, as well. I just feel they get a bum rap for the service. Dining out is an evening event, if done correctly. If you’re in a hurry, then go somewhere with faster service and poorer quality food. If not, then go to Azul Tequila and bring a few extra drinks.

I LIVE for Mexican food. Growing up in CA it’s my absolute favorite food. I can say, hands down… This place has some of the best guacamole I’ve had in a lonnnng time. It’s a BYOB, which we didn’t know… So we went and bought some Coronas and the supplied lime and a bucket of ice. They per warned us the kitchen was backed up due to them being super busy, but we weren’t in a rush so it was fine. Once we got the food it was really tasty. Fresh salsa, very flavorful. The rice was my least favorite. Sorta bland. But not awful. I’ll defs go back. Realllllly enjoyed it.

I really liked this place. It had authentic Latin American food, a bit salty, but nonetheless tasty. They do not have a liquor license and you can BYOB. Also, they will get a guy to ‘deliver’ alcohol if you request it. That was generous of them. The guacamole was excellent and a bit on the lime-y side. No complaints from me on that one. The service was sweet and nice. The interior design is a bit lacking in typical Mexican flair, but gets the job done. Pricing is average at about $ 10−15/plate of a sizeable portion of food. Seriously, if you like Mexican food this feels like being out on the campo.

I ordered a catered meal for 25 and the folks at Azul Tequila went above and beyond. They even brought a sombrero and Mexican blanket to lay the food out on! The food was plentiful and delicious(and so affordable!) Everyone seemed really happy and wanted to take leftovers home with them. Really great for catering. Just make sure you call a couple of days in advance, so they can prepare.

Nice atmosphere but the food and kitchen speed need work. I was disappointed that the tortilla chips weren’t warm; the red spicier salsa they came with was better than the green salsa, which tasted like doctored ranch dressing. Food took forever to come out, even though the restaurant was only half full, and my entrée arrived quite a bit before my husband’s. My husband ordered the brochetas with steak, chicken and shrimp, which came with rice and a ramekin of sauce he described as «very spicy Russian dressing.» He said everything was good though. My fajitas were another story, however. The chicken was overcooked and a bit dry; most disappointing of all was the accompanying platter of pico de gallo made from underripe pale tomatoes, lettuce that had seen better days, and literally a tablespoon each of slightly curdled sour cream and overly citrusy guacamole. Not very appealing. Maybe it was just an off night, but I don’t think I will go back.

Vibrantly decorated with beautiful inviting colors representative of the Mexican culture. Artwork portrayed Mexican prints which fit nicely with the décor. I was a little disappointed that they did not have liquor license as I had a taste for a Corona but was satisfied with the mango bastido. Had seafood tacos for dinner which were delicious with hints of the sweet taste with the fruit marinated a top the fish. This entrée was light but filling. When in town again I will visit this authentic Mexican restaurant.
