Gold’s Gym

4−16−16− still battling my membership with Golds gym in Lorton Va. Another payment taken from my bank account. This is so sad!

I’ve been working out here for 2 – 3 years. The gym has all the essential equipment for cardio and weight training workouts. And the staff are very nice.
But its the other things that keep Golds from getting 3 or more stars. Problems with hot water in the men’s shower room, sauna has had a board missing for a year – even after reporting it numerous times, now its taking time to switch from cable to Direct TV given that analog doesn’t work now. Still going because its close to home and that’s important to me.
Rates are competitive I believe.

This gym needs an update. its old and smelly… Join Fairfax station it is worth the drive. The gym owner is a robot just read his feed back… so glad I left this location !!!

1 star for continuing to bill us months after cancelling membership and after apologies from the Lorton VA Golds gym manager and promises to apply refund to credit card. Filed a complaint with Fairfax County consumer relations and will have to dispute charges with credit card agency — never had to dispute a charge before. Go elsewhere, not to Gold’s.

Aaand disappointed. When I had asked for the no-​contract deal, figured out a few months later that I had been given the 2-​year contract to sign. I’ll be stuck until I provide proof of moving over 25 miles.
It also doesn’t help that the front desk people started giving me looks instead of just ignoring me like they used to.
If you’re going to come here, make sure to be very clear to whoever’s signing you up about which plan you want, and double-​check because apparently they’ll still give you what you don’t want. Note: they make you sign electronically so it’s hard to even read what the contract says. Either way, when I get out of the contract, I’m not coming back.

I joined this gym as it’s the closest to my house, but it could use some updating! The cardio equipment is clearly out of date and I’ve had times where I changed machines several times b/​c the piece I was using wasn’t operating properly. The cardio equipment do not have TV’s attached and most don’t have the ability to hook up to the main TV’s. It gets crowded but nothing like LA Fitness at the Springfield Mall. I may jump to the new LA Fitness off of Beulah!

Women’s locker rooms are disgusting. Staff sends out surveys asking how the gym is doing and when I mentioned the condition of the locker rooms I received an email back saying that their locker rooms are clean. Umm… so am I making up the fact that I saw a bloody tampon in the shower??? There’s hair all over the floors?
Some of the exercise equipment don’t work properly… and yet they don’t replace them. They constantly send out surveys wanting to know how they can improve the gym, and yet they do NOTHING about it. As you can see the owner only replies to positive comments on Unilocal

The amount of members and money this gym has, it is time to do some updating. The staff is friendly, but the equipment is starting to show its age. Some of the machines are always broke or needs some sort of attention. The cable systems sucks as it isn’t free flowing as it should at time. The wifi is just as bad as the equipment. It’s never connected and when you finally do, it’s always buffering because its painstakingly slow. That’s terrible as far as a «service» rendered.
Now the biggest update needed is the bathrooms and locker rooms as there are unsatisfactory. There is no reason why the bathrooms should look the way it does. Toilets, gross, tiles on the floors and showers are GROSS, Locker rooms are gross. It makes me not want to use the bathroom facilities or take a shower. It’s really terrible for a gym of this size. Upgrade the bathroom and locker rooms already.
One water fountain station in this entire facility is ridiculous also. Not to mention, one is always broke or the water is always hot.
Fix these things and the gym will be a better place. You have competition coming to your area soon in L.A. Fitness at Hilltop. I advise you approach the customers complaints or suggestions accordingly or else you’re going to see a wave of people leaving for the brand new Bells and Whistles.

I recently came in to inquire about a gym membership. I’m new to the area and wasn’t sure which gym to join. SCOTT in memberships answered all my questions! He was so helpful and very friendly. I signed up right then as I knew this Golds Gym is where I belong. Scott is simply amazing and will get you the best deal! Make sure to ask for him when you go in!

Love.This.Gym! The manager Marc Rice is personable, friendly, and really cares about his clients. The instructors are friendly and thoughtful, and also really motivating and fun so you want to keep coming back and working hard. They are great at explaining and tailoring moves so each class member can get a great workout at their fitness level. It’s everything you want/​need in a gym.

I’ve been working out here for almost 2 years. The gym has all the essential equipment for cardio and weight training workouts however, it lacks bathroom cleanliness, convenience, and professionalism (front desk). The water fountains seem to only have warm-​hot water.
Every time I’ve went here, the women’s bathroom room has been a mess. There are always empty toilet rolls on the floor, new rolls laying on the floor, or no toilet paper at all. I complained twice about this. I complained to the Hispanic lady that works in the bathroom (not exactly sure what she does there besides talk on the phone) about it once and she looked at me and didn’t even respond (no interpersonal skills whatsoever). The second was in a survey in which a manager emailed me telling me he wanted to discuss my complaints. I provided him with my phone number and he said he would call me. That was in May. It’s now August. No call. No follow up email.
Spin classes USED to be my thing until I joined this gym. You have to sign up for it here. Now who in the hell has time to sign up for a class? So inconvenient.
Two individuals working the front desk staff are unprofessional and incompetent. I was waiting patiently for a female staff worker to assist me so I could get setup in the tanning bed however, she was busy talking to her friend about her evening plans. She continues to ignore me even though I know she knows I’m staring at her. She asks me rudely «Do you need something?» In which I replied «Oh I’m sorry did you think I was just standing here staring at you for nothing? Of course I need something.»
Second unprofessional incident: I work out every Sunday evening. The gym closes at 8:00pm on weekends. The lights cut out at 7:45pm. Not only did this happen once, but it happened multiple times. Once I was using the restroom when the lights dimmed. I felt bad for the women using the shower who were struggling to see in the dark. Another instance occurred when I was on the treadmill running. I almost tripped when the lights cut out at 7:45pm but thankfully I caught myself. My husband accidentally bumped his shoulder on a machine because it was PITCH BLACK in there. There have been many more instances like this. I asked her to stop doing that and warned her that someone could get seriously injured. Of course she blamed it on some emergency switch. No apology. No assurance that she would fix it. Of course I asked her why she cuts out the lights so early EVERY TIME she was working. She replies incompetently with a blank stare «I cut the lights out 10 minutes before closing.» Her airhead reply didn’t even answer my question of «Why». I told her I would talk to the manager about this (which I personally didn’t get a chance to since my husband did). Her lack of unprofessionalism is appalling in which she replied «That’s fine I don’t care.» I forget her name but she’s the orange chubby chic with brown hair.
My husband and I will be going to LA Fitness at Hilltop Village once it opens. I don’t even care to pay early termination fees. Le sigh…

I may have enjoyed being a member, but I’ll never know because I was SO turned off by the crazy spiel covering all potential costs.
So, HOW was I was given all the pricing breakdowns and options? On a brochure or even a nicely printed sheet of paper with details and prices nicely organized so I could make a fully-​formed decision? HA! Try frantic scribbles on an index card (see photo) while furiously talking. I tried to make notes after the fact while it was still fresh but an hour later I was confused. JUST GIVE ME THE DAMN PRICES ON A HANDOUT.
I decided to buy a treadmill instead.
I was going to only give them one star, but the facility seems nice, I liked that the women’s locker room had its own exercise area, the A/​C was pumping, and I like that they offer childcare… so I added a star.

This gym can be affordable if you get the right contract. I pay $ 35 monthly on a contract with a year commitment which I think is about the median price. I know people paying higher and lower for the same contract.
I feel like the atmosphere is pretty dreadful. Midday during non peak hours the gym is filled with elitist who nearly scoff at you and during peak hours the gym is so packed that it’s difficult to get to the equipment you’d want to use.
I’ve heard decent things about the classes and personal training but have never tried either. I would highly recommend trying a few other gyms in the area before committing to this one.

I love this gym! I have been coming here since 2009, its small but it has everything you need. AMAZING classes and trainers. It is definitely not the fanciest gym out there but Ive tried a ton of other gyms and nothing compares :) I always come back!

I have been coming to this gym with my wife for a bout six weeks now. I like it even better than when I first started coming. A key to the success of coming to a gym like Gold’s is to get a good personal trainer when you start out. Only about one third of the people who signed up for memberships actually come on a regular basis to the gym. The regulars are very friendly and will help New beginners.

Horrible. «Manager» Dale kept trying to charge us for more even though we were paying upfront for two years. He is extremely rude and disrespectful. Never going there again.

Good gym I guess. Don’t use one of those week free gym passes unless you want them emailing you and calling you bothering you to get a membership. Won’t get a membership just because they bothered me.

This place is small. One of the smallest gyms I’ve ever been to. The front desk attendant (don’t know her name, and if I did I probably wouldn’t tell you) is attitudinal with a touch of negligence. I went in to get a free pass (because honestly, it way too expensive here) and was directed to a trainer/​new account assistant. He was friendly enough (with a tough man persona). He did the usual one-​two-​step of wheeling and dealing. I ended up with a 10 day pass and free training session.
Over all, it’s a gym, and a gym is a gym is a gym. Over crowed with muscle head and half naked women looking for dates. I’m probably never going to enroll. But love the free passes.

Although it doesn’t seem like it, I’ve been a member of Gold’s Gym Lorton for years. Almost a decade. (Stop looking at my picture! I’ve had some off years!) The bathrooms are always clean, it has all the weights and equipment you need, without all the fancy bells and whistles. They have a sauna, 3 different rooms for fitness classes, and trainers that are ACTUALLY in incredible shape. I’ve been guests at other gyms, (keep in mind I’m NO SPRING CHICKEN BUT I’m not the one who is paid to look good), where the trainers were not that healthy looking. We also have the most unique members you will ever see. Here are a few of my favorites I’ve seen over the years.
–The guy using the hula-​hoop while looking at himself in the mirror.
–The guy who does the same workout as me, right next to me, in an empty gym, with DOUBLE the weights.
–The Ogre at night who can lift more weight than any human should be able to but tends to scream at the top of his lungs ergo scaring me while I’m doing my cute little set in the corner.
–To the guy who tried to kick the heavy bag at the gym, missed, and fell: «I’m sorry I laughed… then Unilocaled»
–The hilarious black guy who took one step into the rest room, saw a naked elderly man, and YELLED «g**DAMN!!!» then walked RIGHT OUT. Thank you sir, I for real never laughed harder.
–Finally lets not forget the unbelievable women that, I’m sorry, put all of us men to shame with their CRAZY lunge squat «with more weights than my regular squats» insane workouts.
My only complaint is the 10pm close time. I wish they would close at 11. Some of us who work or go to school real late could really benefit from the extra hour. I would love a vote to see if members would rather keep the hours OR open one hour later so that you can close one hour later. I’ve been there at 430 in the morning when the gym opens and in my opinion more people would appreciate coming at 10pm.
AND WHY IS THERE A MCDONALD’S RIGHT NEXT TO IT!!!
I’ve pathetically gotten dressed to go to the gym, went to the drive through, ate in the parking spot in front of Gold’s, and driven home!

I disagree with Leelee. I don’t know what the atmosphere is like later in the day but I’m normally there around 630 AM and I love it. I feel the folks that come here, are here for a reason and that is to get in a GOOD WORKOUT. I’m not here to make friends.
The trainers that are there in the morning, are very well trained. Jason Urbanski is probably the best trainer I’ve ever worked with. It’s all in what you want. Do you want results and be injury free? Or do you just want to come to the gym for the social aspect of it and just chit chat. There’s mothing wrong with that if that’s your thing and it motivates you to workout.
And I disagree with his/​her comment about the non positive energy. I’ve been working out here for a yr now and folks have told me that I’ve inspired them. They’ve watched me train with Jason and have said to themselves, if she can do this, I can. They didn’t have to tell me but it was very nice of them to take the time out of their day to stop and say something to me. If you find a trainer that isn’t suitable for you, ask for someone else. Not every trainer’s style is suitable for everyone.
I don’t know what the classes are like at the Lorton location but I’ve heard good things about them. Expecially, the Kangoo class. I mostly take spinning at the Lake Ridge location but I look forward to trying out the MOI Cycle classes that are now being offered. The facility is clean when I’m there. And believe me, there’s a lot of folks there around 4:30 & 5:30 AM.
The reason I’m not fiving it a 5 is because the locker room could use some updating.
