tl;dr — Fraudulent business. They inflated a co-pay price by 800%($ 45 instead of $ 5) and tried to charge me shipping of $ 70 on top of that. DONOTGOHERE! The full story: I found this pharmacy through my insurance’s website and was happy to support a local, family-owned pharmacy. For the first few prescriptions I had no problems — the copays were standard and the service was efficient. In early December I got a prescription for a C2 controlled medication that is not commonly stocked. They said it would take a week — no problem. Then they couldn’t fill the prescription because my doctor had not written out exact amounts. That’s my doctor’s fault; the pharmacy was doing the right and legal thing with a controlled substance. I got a second prescription from my doc — there was another problem with the way she wrote it. Again, I didn’t and don’t fault the pharmacy for the delay. All of this is to say that the pharmacy was aware I would be needing this medication in early December and that I always brought them the script. My doctor was away Christmas week until after New Years(Dec. 21 — Jan. 4), so I had to wait until early January to get the correct prescription. When I got the correct script I dropped it off with them. Third time’s a charm, or so I thought. The next day I received a call from Century Pharmacy to let me know the co-pay is $ 45. I thought it a little odd, since co-pays are either $ 5 for generic or $ 25 for brand, but I knew the medication is expensive and so assumed that it has an exceptionally high co-pay. 10 minutes later CP called again, this time to tell me that the supplier they would have ordered it from previously was now out of this medication and they have to order it from out of state.(Really? No one else in the tiny state of California carries this drug?!) This would add a shipping cost of $ 70. I said, no way. That’s not my responsibility. The man on the phone said it’s not him, it’s his boss. Then he offered that I should pay $ 70 total, for both co-pay and shipping. Yes, he was haggling with me over the price of a prescription med covered by my insurance. Unbelievable. I called him out on it and said I would pick up my prescription and take it elsewhere. When I got there, the same man told me he got into trouble with his boss for offering me that«deal» of $ 70 total. What a chutzpah. I took the prescription to CVS: $ 5 co-pay, no shipping. Trying to charge $ 45 co-pay on what should be $ 5 is fraud, and I will report this business. Trying to scam me out of an additional $ 70 is just chutzpah. And stupid, frankly, because that’s what drove me to look elsewhere. Post-script: Today I get a call from Century Pharmacy that my prescription is ready. What prescription? He names a drug — not the C2 from above — that I was prescribed once, long ago, not by my current doctor. I tell him that I have not brought in any prescription to them since they tried to fraudulently overcharge me for my other prescription and that they better not be trying to charge my insurance company for this. He tells me that my doctor(same as above) called it in Dec. 27 — which she couldn’t have because she was out of town. I tell him that’s not possible — he got the name of my doctor right, but that’s about it. I say I have no intention of doing any business with them since they tried charging me $ 45 for a $ 5 copay. He gets defensive(«Why are you yelling at me? I’m being nice and calling to let you know your prescription is ready,» and adds, «we were only making $ 20 off of you for that last prescription; that doesn’t even cover the employees.» Wow. I feel for small pharmacies that have to compete with the big chains. Don’t like how my insurance reimburses you — renegotiate or don’t work with them. Trying to screw over your loyal customers is not the way to do it. Customers beware!
