I loooooooove sul lung tang from Han Bat so decided to give this place a try since some people seemed to compare the two. The sul lung tang here is definitely nothing to write home about. Meat was very tasteless and tough, broth was milky but bland. Portion was small too. I had to put soooo much salt and chili paste in there to make it actually decent. Kimchi was pretty good but the kkakdoogi was too fermented and tasted off. Service was very meh… They told me to sit anywhere I want and proceeded to ignore me for the rest of the time. I had a really tough time flagging them down because the two waitresses there were in a very deep conversation and would not for the love of God look in my direction when I was just 7 feet away. When I finally did get their attention after 10 minutes, they looked extremely annoyed. I was extremely polite and friendly but they still did not look happy. I was finally able to order and it took literally 25 minutes for my food to come out which is way too long for some soup. There was only one other table besides me so it wasn’t like they were busy either. Took another 10 minutes to get my check. I basically spent nearly an hour in this restaurant to eat a bland meal. All in all, I will come back since it’s only a block from my house but only to try the other dishes on their menu and ONLY to-go cause I don’t want to be glared at while I eat. P. S. They do NOTTTTT open at 7:30AM like someone said in an earlier review. I just came back from there 5 minutes before writing this review. They were closed and when I called them, they said they actually open at 10:30 am.

CLOSED! E-Jo made the best sullungtang in ktown. But they’ve been bought out by O Jang Dong, a chain that specializes in naeng myun and sullungtang. I’m afraid it’s not as good.

Located in the neighborhood of Little Bangladesh, I came to find the next best sul lung tang after reading about it on Unilocal.By definition, sul lung tang is a Korean bone marrow soup commonly characterized by a milky soup base filled with beef and/or innards served with strands of clear noodles. The soup requires seasoning at the table with salt, pepper, green onions, and a thick chili paste. Sul lung tang has been one of my go-to comfort foods this winter, and I often dunk my bowl of steamed rice into the simmering soup to make the experience worthwhile. E-Jo is a restaurant opened a year ago but for some reason it’s been overlooked and under-reviewed. The facility is spacious with two large screen TVs, clean and airy wooden décor, and a semi-open kitchen located behind the register. The place is well lit during the day and I had the chance to enjoy watching the Korean version of American Idol while dining discreetly from the far corner. I ordered the Special Sul Lung Tang($ 7.99) that came with a creamy broth stemming from beef bone marrow that was served with briskets, beef tongue, tripe, tendon, clear noodles, and Korean rice cake. The order came with steamed rice on the side along with kimchi and pickled radishes. The steamed rice and thin slices of beef briskets were noticeably dry, but I enjoyed the generous servings of tongue, tripe and thick chunky tendon. The pieces of Korean rice cake were nice additions to the equation, and when combined with my bowl of steamed rice the experience was comforting and delicious. Fans of sul lung tang must wonder how this restaurant compares with Han Bat, a popular sul lung tang specialist in Koreatown. The things to like about E-Jo is the variety of dishes they offer on the menu that includes, but not limited to, Galbi Tang($ 9.99), Soon Dubu($ 7.99), Dol Sot Bibimbap($ 7.99) and a nice listing of Sul Lung Tang of which the customers can choose between thick, regular, or clear broths. Many of their sul lung tang options are $ 2 cheaper than Han Bat, and the amount of meat included are far more generous. On the downside, interested diners should be aware that the broth at E-Jo is not as robust with bone marrow flavor as a place like Han Bat. As a show of authenticity, there were tiny shreds of bone marrow at the bottom of my bowl, so unless you’re 100% dogmatic about the broth the trade off is noticeable but minimal at best. Service was very brief but warm, expedient, and friendly. The restaurant offers free parking in the back and also accepts credit cards for payment. This restaurant is open from 7:30am to 10pm and the venue is large enough for groups. Here’s to another great discovery that comes at less than $ 10. Unilocal has done it again in pointing me to the most unlikely places for a spicy culinary fare. I would absolutely love to return to try their other dishes, especially Galbi Tang, a Korean short rib soup with egg.

My brother loves this place. we were arguing about Korean restaurants with the best sul lung tangs and this was his place. and Han Bat was my fave. but decided to try this place out to prove him wrong! $ 6.99(+tax) E-jo sul lung tang vs. $ 9(tax included) Han Bat sul lung tang Okay. Price — he wins Sure they are about $ 1.30 cheaper. but nuh uh! Sul Lung Tang — I win The broth was good but their meats were a bit tough and dry and the intestines in the mixed one was a bit too chewy and tasted weird. Kimchi — a tie Their kkakdoogi(daicon kimchi) was perfectly fermented and went so well with the soup :] but their gutjuhlee(cabbage kimchi) was whateverrrs. :P There’s a little coffee machine by the counter 25 cents a cup for milk coffee or tea. you know. those powder ones that you mix with hot water? Not the greatest but good to have after a meal with lotsa meat. :] One thing they have that Han Bat doesn’t have? Parking. Lots of ‘em. :]

Just came back from an all-nighter party outing and was in serious need of some old fashioned home cooked meal. First thing that cam into mind? Korean Soup. I had passed E-jo on my way to my apt plenty of times and knew this was the time to try. Me and the hubby drove both our cars and there was plenty of parking. I ordered for us because he, lacking any korean descent, would obviously not know what was good to get. Hehe. 2 Galbi-tangs and three side dishes. The sides were Kimchi, red Moo Kimchi, and sliced, sweet, slightly spicy pickled radish. Not very fermented yet and thats how i like it! I had asked for lots of meet and the nice guys really did give me a lot! Usually never do that at restaurants. So four stars for giving the girl what she wants! And the extra star for just being a very legit korean restaurant. I know that sounds weird but its pretty rare to find a spot that would be just like how it would be in Korea. Love you guys!

Ya know, if you’re gonna open up a Sul Lung Tang restaurant in K-Town, you better dayam will have a kick a$$ cook and be a cut above the rest in other ways cause there’s like 3 of these types of restaurants on every corner, ya know? Anyway, I don’t think this place has what it takes to dethrone the reigning Sul Lung Tang champs like Han Baht and the place on Dewey but I think it could survive for several reasons; 1) Good location with ample free parking; 2) Attentive service; 3) Facilities are über clean However — the food is eh for me; 1) The kimchi and gokdugi are too fresh, sound weird but it’s true — those items are supposed to have that fermented pickled taste but it doesn’t — I don’t like it, but I can see it appealing to others; 2) Sul Lung Tang is sorta small, with sparse pieces of meat, but whatever meat is in there is high quality and the broth is milky white and taste very very very clean. I would come back here to check out the other items, but for SLT I’ll stick to HB on 5th or that place I mentioned on Dewey.

I ordered the Bibimbap in the stone bowl. They also have serve it as a cold dish option. Delicious! Also comes with the normal korean side dishes: kimchi, cucumbers and pickled daikon… all spicy! YUM! Servers were friendly. Restaurant was clean. Parking in back… the parking spaces seem narrow though. I would go again!
