Recently stopped by to order take-out. The lade that took the order was friendly. The wait and menu prices are reasonable. The place was packed on the Sunday evening that I visited, I guess that’s a good sign. Food was delicious. Took off a star because like some other reviewers have mentioned, the furnishings are dated.

I’ve been coming here for over 10 years for serious home cooked Cantonese food. My wife and father in law are chinese chefs and even they like to eat here often. Staff are very friendly and make you feel at home. My family and I have many different food allergies and they have always accomodated to our unfortunate circumstances. It is hard to find an asian restaurant that can accomodate to our challenges without being charged an arm and a leg. So you could imagine this place is a big part in our family’s lives. Here are some of my favorites: fresh daily vegetables stir fry, orange chicken, house special tofu(they make their own tofu), Singapore style noodles(combination of vermicelli noodles, shrimp, BBQ pork, and curry), Malaysian style noodle(seafood chowfun with gravy), Haam U Jing Yok Bang!(steamed pork patty with salted fish), salty and spicy fried squid or fish, and homemade ginger chicken(chinese spiced steamed free range chicken), egg foo-young(chinese omelet with gravy), and shanghai spare ribs.

Good home made food. Obviously it’s not home made but it tastes like it. I like it alot, and they can make a vegetarian tofu dish as a substitute to the house dish which has minced pork. The server speaks english and is really nice. The veggies… that’s my biggest gripe about chinese food– it’s always oily, or bland or just not done well. This place does a great mixed veggie dish– light, not oily, cruncy, so good you can just eat that on its own without other dishes!

My friend brought me to eat here a while ago. She highly recommended the special house tofu, so we ordered it. WOWWWWW. It was love at first bite!!! All the order dishes were also delicious. The prices are affordable and delicious. However, I have noticed a price jump over the past couple years. But this place is still good. I wouldn’t say the food is a typical Chinese restaurant quality, but still good enough to fill you up. I’d come here if I am hungry and don’t want to spend that much on lunch.

Great service! Super food! The place is bare bones aesthetically but feels very authentic. My 1 star deduction is for not having as many veggie options as I would like and ordering my dish spicy and it not being so spicy. Oh and cash only thing is a little bit of a bummer.

House Special Tofu is the best! We always order that every time. Good neighbor Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. Staff is always friendly and hard working. We go there often after church.

This place is as bad as it can get. I found hair in my food and asked for an exchange but they said the hair belongs to me. I asked for an exchange and this waiter tells me we can’t exchange since it is not our fault. Are you serious? Ever since ownership changed, the food is trash, service is trash and owner is trash. Avoid this place at all cost because there are way better options near by.

We’ve been coming here for over a decade. The owners had a Chinese restaurant in Frankfurt before they came to Los Angeles. Wonderful people and great food for the price. Our favorites are the kung pao shrimp, home made bean curd, spare ribs and eggplant schezuan style.

Went here on our visit to China town with my girl. The service was great and the staff was extremely friendly. There food was good, but didn’t seem much better than most other Chinese spots I’ve eaten… Two things I’m going to knock them for are… 1) My girl ordered soup for our son and while eating it with him she found a tiny baby roach in it. We aren’t sure if it was in the tiny bowl before we poured the soup in or cooked into the soup. But either way it’s a baby roach, which means there are more. 2) They served us rice that was a bit burned, which means it was from the bottom of the rice cooker. As a restaurant I get you try to cut back on waste, but rice is cheap!!! Make a new batch and don’t sacrifice service!!! Otherwise this place was ok. I would have given them a higher rating if not for the roach. Can’t get over the roach.

A solid go-to option for Chinese food in Chinatown. This is definitely one of those places that aren’t going to get high reviews on Unilocal(small, sort of hard to find, doesn’t look like much, not much hype) but offers great value and variety. I think a good place to bring a group of friends. My go-to dishes for Jade Wok are usually the House Bean Curd Tofu, the Shanghai Ribs, and Salt and Pepper Pork. The menu is pretty vast so depending on your taste for Chinese food(this is not a dumpling place, sorry… not that kind of Chinese food) this place could serve you well.

Love this place! One of the best bang for buck deals for Chinese food in Chinatown. Been here so many times I’ve lost track. Open for lunch and dinner. Go to dishes here are House Special tofu and Shanghai style spare ribs. Other dishes I enjoy are chicken and string beans, king pao 3 flavors and salt pepper pork chops. It’s pretty hard to find any other sit down establishment with dishes that average $ 7 a dish and foods good.

Not bad, about a step above a chinese fast food place. The inside of the restaurant is very traditional, not«americanized». A big sign behind the register states that they only take cash. We ordered the shrimp and broccoli, orange chicken, pork fried rice and egg flower soup. Everything tasted good, nothing special or spectacular, though. Everything was a good size portion, except for the shrimp and broccoli, which was smaller than you get at most chinese places. Overall, I would eat here again.

I recently decided to go through my 200+ Unilocal bookmarks and begin organizing them in a more effective manner. I have no idea exactly WHEN I bookmarked Jade Wok, but I found it sitting there in my «to try» category. The other day I decided to give it a shot with my good friend/coworker/classmate, as we had some time after range qualifications and before our night class started. Jade Wok is located in a pretty nondescript medical center just up the hill from Hill street. It is on your righthand side, and very easy to miss, as you will have to scan between the treeline and the medical signs and signs in Chinese catch your eyes first. There is a parking lot located directly behind the plaza, with a sign saying to make sure you leave your parking ticket visible. Beyond that fenceline, but at the start of another(larger) parking lot, there is a parking booth, which is where I assume you meet the attendant for the parking slip. I wasn’t sure if this was all interconnected though(and they had a charge of .50c every 20 minutes) so I was able to make a U-turn and find a meter right in front of Jade Wok(1 hour max; but it was easy to run out and feed if necessary). As soon as we entered we were greeted by a woman who invited us to sit anywhere. While Jade Wok doesn’t have the most impressive dining room(it’s all kind of mis-matchy and slightly older looking) it was a CLEAN dining room(always a plus), and they did boast an A-rating on the door. As soon as we sat down we were given some complementary tea by the waitress, which really hit the spot on the cold(and very rainy!) day. Their $ 5.95 lunch special boasts an impressive choice of selection and runs from 1030am-8pm. Based on hours alone that has to be one of the best lunch specials I’ve ever seen. I chose the orange chicken, and my friend chose one of the beef options(the name escapes me). The lunch special was also served(dine in only) with a complementary soup, which was corn based had a few small pieces of tofu floating in it, and very nice. The one negative(and the reason for the lack of a 5th star in my opinion) is that while the lunch special states that it is also served with steamed rice no steamed rice actually ever arrived to our table. We probably could have asked, but at this point we didn’t have the menus anymore, and as the meat was served family style we couldn’t exactly remember if rice was supposed to be included, or as an add on. Also as the restaurant was slow all the members of the staff were over in a table in the corner enjoying their own meal, and honestly it seemed rude to interrupt. Minus the lack of rice however for the price the quality of the meat, and the tastiness of the meal, was an extremely pleasant surprise. Normally with such a cheap lunch option I am sometimes weary of the food that I am about to eat, but I found myself scooping up second and third helpings of both the chicken and the beef(with the chicken being my overall favorite). Service wasn’t the best, but was standard for a Chinese restaurant. When we needed them(and made it known by calling them) they came. The bill was delivered before we asked for it, however after all of the plates on our table were scraped clean, so it was safe to assume they knew we were done with our meal(also while browsing the menu I’m not sure I noted any desert options). For a lot of meat, 2 cokes, 2 complementary soups and tea(and *hmph* no rice) the total came to $ 21 which my friend and I both considered to be an excellent price. All in all, I have no idea when or why I bookmarked Jade Wok, but I am happy that I did. The food was fresh and tasty(and importantly for a «hole in the wall» joint did not make either of us feel ‘funny’ afterwards) and the price point was excellent. I will be back!

Great little hole in the wall, or medical plaza as it is. I’ve only been for lunch and rightfully so — all lunch special items are just under $ 6 before tax/tip and runs from 10:30am — 8pm. Don’t fret at the price, the food is legit, plus it includes a soup of the day, rice and tea. A few highlights: House Special Beef — grilled beef & onions that has a great flavor. Very flavorful. House Special Seafood Curry — Yellow curry, with a hint of kick to it. I was pleasantly surprised — shrimp, imatation crab, fish, and squid. Good overall portions of seafood to veggies. Black Bean Short Ribs — pork ribs in a tasty black bean sauce. Thick, rich, and a little salty, the portion is freaking huge. Shanghai Ribs. Ribs covered in a sweet & sour like sauce. More sweet than sour, almost honey-ish in flavor. Decent, but not quite as succulent as the black bean ribs. House Bean Curd Tofu — Not your typical tofu. Warmed up and smothered in a delicious black bean sauce. Coming from someone not big on tofu, this is pretty good. The lunch special menu has about 40 items and I’ve only had about quarter of them and I’ve yet to be disappointed. Consistently good and super cheap, this is the best lunch special I’ve come across in town.

For the price, Jade Wok is a solid four. There’s better Chinese food out there, but Jade Wok ain’t bad. The special tofu isn’t THAT delicious, but it is unique and pretty tasty. The service can be spotty, given the typical understaffing of a Chinese restaurant. Cash only.

Everyone keeps saying how the best Chinese restaurants are now only in SGV – well it might be true but Jade Wok is definitely a place to check out in China. Their lunch special is sooo affordable and it’s a lot of portion too. YOUHAVETOGETTHESPECIALTOFU – No it’s not vegetarian. I like ordering from this place because they deliver only down side is they are cash only place.
