This place was the historic Jewels Catch One. A beacon of freedom for a marginalized group in a part of the city that was less than understanding. It has now become«The Union». This new owner, also owns the night club«Los Globos». I attended an event here on Saturday the 16th of January. After waiting about an hour to get in, my party and I reached the interior of the venue. Within 30 minutes of being inside the venue, a little white man in a cowboy hat came in and began screaming for all patrons to leave. Then they cut the power. The venue was pitch black, and devoid of saftey lights. Patrons in wheel chairs and crutches were yelled at by the security team to hurry and leave. The security, displaying no insignias of who they were, who they worked for, or any patches, all had guns. One had his gun concealed under a baggy shirt, and only became visable when he was yelling at patrons to leave. While armed security is understandable due to the seedy neighborhood this club is in, gun laws were not followed, and security were essentially just goons, devoid of any professionalism. Im Not surprised given the mentality of the security team at Los Globos, but at least they don’t have hidden guns. All in all be aware when you go to this club. Be aware of who you are supporting, and watch your back, no one else is.

What a dive and a poor excuse for a nightclub. The N. Y. Eve — D. J’s must be desperate for gig.

My review is based on an event called NAKEDNEON that took place Sunday May 24, 2015. This place is a hidden gem. I had never heard of the place and absolutely loved it! Every review seems to be based on the event, so all I can say is blame the Event/Promoters not the Venue. The location itself was awesome. You could hear the second/side room from outside. The Main Room was great. Sound and lighting was perfect. Love the mirrored walls, the set up, and the vibe was awesome. Leave it to the Ravers to bring on good vibes right? Definitely hoping more events like NAKEDNEON take place at this location!

I freaking love this place! I honestly wish we had a place like this in SD. Very similar to Spin nightclub in San Diego. I love the griminess and underground basement feel. Many people complain about how dirty it is but it is not as bad as people make it seem. The dance floor in the upstairs main room is huge with lots of seating around the walls. Went here for a FadeToMind event(garage, UK, house, R&B) to see Kelela, Kingdom, and Nguzunguzu and the sound system was perfect for the music. I can’t say it would be the same for live bands. I wasn’t a fan of the slightly overpriced drinks and the somewhat unorganized security. Either way I had an amazing time and will definitely be making a trip back. Good vibes here. *Please note this venue is definitely not for the bougie types. From the outside it looks pretty old and run down and the inside is a bit grimy compared to more mainstream clubs, but like I said this is not for those types of shows and is part of the charm of this place.

Shittiest venue I ever been. Do not come here, they charge you extra money to get in besides whatever fees you paid for your ticket.

i honestly never leave reviews. but felt the need after coming here for a show. i’ve been attending shows for about 20 years(sure.i’m old) but this has to be the worst venue i’ve ever been to in my life… i understand it’s cheaper for the promoter to book shows here. but i’ll never be coming back. i don’t care how much i like the band. it’s too god dam hot. the line took forever to move. it’s too crowded. you can’t move… it’s not a fun experience. maybe if i was under 25. i’d be ok with it. probably not. this venue really sucks! came here for king khan/sheer mag

This place is the absolute worst. It’s hot and gross. The door people didn’t know what was going on and were telling people who bought tickets online that they weren’t getting in. Then, when people were finally let in, the place filled to capacity and they kept letting people inside. There was no room for anyone to move. There was a band playing next door and you could hear it over the band that was on the stage at Jewel’s. You couldn’t see the band on stage because of the beer bottles that were lined up at the bar/counter. We left before the band we were there to see even played 1 song. It was miserable and a complete waste of money. If the band you want to see even has a moderate following, just wait and go see them somewhere else

I am writing this review solely based on the concert I attended last weekend, not the disco nights. The space was adequate and there was a lot of seating around the edges of the room. That was great since sometimes standing the whole time gets tiring. The security at the door was nice but very slow. It started raining very hard and there was a long line in front of us and behind us. The stage itself was very small and the huge speakers on either side of it made it difficult to see the performers. The drinks were VERY expensive but they had a good selection of beers and other drinks. There is a downstairs rooms and an upstairs room. I was in the upstairs room. The bathrooms were old and rundown but they worked for what you needed to do. I’m not sure how this place is when it is disco night but on this night it was just ok. Would I come back and see another show here? Maybe. PS. They did have a designated lot for parking but it cost $ 5. But hey, way better than $ 10-$ 15 in other places. There was also street parking but you have to search.

The noise shows they book here are terrible and pricy — I dread when someone I want to see play live is on a flier for this venue. I guess it’s an OK place to have conversations and wander around but to watch an actual set — I’ll pass. Feels forced, and like whoever is booking the shows is in it only to make some money, and/or doesn’t have genuine sense of taste or interest in the actual music.

Wow I hate this place. I’ve never had a good time here. The only thing going for it is the neon and the gazebo. If you like a sound system that sounds like it’s drowning underwater and if you think standing in a room full of people who aren’t dancing is fun then this is your spot. Also the door person tried to skim five extra bux off me on two occasions. He was like«15 bucks» and I was like«I thought it was ten» then he had the audacity to be all like«Oh I’m sorry, forgot.» You have one job, only one easy job and that is to remember how much your already overpriced dance spot is. I’m not paying five more dollars for your lame venue dude. Then he tried to pull the same move on my friend! So low. Note to self: never return.

Some of the best bars/lounges/clubs I’ve been to in LA are the discreetly located hole-in-the-wall type venues. And for me, Catch One Disco has resembling features that I like. Located in Arlington Heights but what feels more like the crossroads between Crenshaw and K-Town, located on Pico Blvd. is Catch One Disco. MYEXPERIENCE: I haven’t really come here to necessarily ‘club’ — I’ve been here to catch live music performances. Most recently I came to see ILOVEMAKONNEN and Kingdom, both acts on separate dates. Each time I arrived I would notice an extremely long line outside the spot, which got me the thinkin’ …how do I bypass this mess?! Luckily for me, the entrance for my shows have always been around the corner, down the alley, through(what I believe is) the back entrance. Where there is absolutely no wait line! The space is dimly lit and pretty spacious. One big room split into two: * One side — is very lounge-esq equipped with couches, tables and chairs to enjoy drinks and conversations comfortably. * Otherside — the main stage and Dance floor area. Pretty wide open space to boogie and get loose. Stage is not that elevated so performances feel like they’re happening right in your face. Behind the stage is an upstairs area to the VIP. I haven’t had a moment to mosey on up there but it looks like a standard VIP section from my POV. The one plus about the VIP is that it looks directly over the stage and gives a feel like you are also part of the performance(I saw several more than thrilled participants in the section acting as if they were in a music video). If it gets too hot for you inside and you need a breath of fresh air. Make your way to the outdoor patio section. iTools more like a gazebo but it’s incredibly spacious with plenty seating. Feel free to smoke a cigarette outside if you wish. Be prepared for them to hover over you endlessly(security) if you choose to spark something else… OHYEAH! Almost forgot… they make their own chicken wings here! Yeah, you heard me right. Their. Own. Chicken. Wings. And surprisingly, they are extremely tasty! Next time there’s a musical act I wanna see and they’re playing here… I’ll be in there fa sho!

I LOVE this place. It never lets me down on a Saturday night. I’ve been coming here for 3 years now. Every time I introduce this club to one of my friends they end up loving it! It’s always a party Saturday nights! There are goo goo dancers male and female that dance when the music videos go off. There’s usually a dancing competition when I go on the stage. It’s great entertainment for someone who isn’t into dancing at clubs lol. I always find parking in the parking lot and the outside patio is great for getting air. If you haven’t done your research on this place already, then I’m here to tell you… it is a gay club. Thursdays are das bunker! There’s something for everybody at this club which is why I love it.

I recently celebrated my bday here and the staff was wonderful. They gave me time in the daytime to go and set up. They took care of my cake while i went home to get ready. When my friends amd I got to club it was all nicely set on my table and right away a staff member came to let me know if I needed anything to let her know right away. She then after an hour or so came and brought over the bottle service and were so friendly amd accomidating to me and my guest. We all had a great time. I recommend this place. Everyone was great and made my bday extra special.

I had the unfortunate experience of being here during the day… It shines some(unwanted) light as to how dirty this place is. Literally! Dust… Everywhere! There were no locks on some of the bathroom stalls. The ‘disco’ room had a dated bar, and couches all around the outside… Couches, you’d think, that you could sit on… Only if you want cockroaches in your socks though. There were tons of bugs crawling around. Rarely do you see a bar in the daytime, and i now know why people keep the clubs so dark! This place needs TLC and an update!

I went to this night club on a Saturday looking for a good time. Being from out of town, a local recommend this lesbian venue. As my friends and I walked up, a group of run down, obnoxious girls were leaving, loudly complaining about what was waiting inside(first hint). After walking up a full flight upstairs a paying a very affordable 10 dollars we were smacked by a disturbing smell(pissy like mildew). But we ignored it hoping for a good time. We immediately bought drinks hoping for some liquid courage to lighten our mood. After spending 28 bucks for two way over poured liquor cups we noticed the bartender throwing back shots. Then the go-go dancers, then some other random people claiming to «work» there. No wonder they charge so much. The actual venue has awesome potential with 3 separate special areas and an outside(wedding like) smoking gazebo. Clearly this place had no dress code because the 70% of underage kids were wearing tennis shoes or flip flops… even though the sign said no one under 21 I did not check out the bathroom… for fear of catching some unwanted disease. All in all this place needs a bar rescue before its completely taken over by cockroaches. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone unless my issues listed above appeal to you.

Respect Drum and Bass promoters found another hidden gem of a place to throw their parties on Thursdays nights! They lost their last location at the Echoplex a couple of months ago, and with that, many cherishable memories for us Junglist. Not sure if this new location is permanent, but it was definitely packed on it’s opening night for Respect. I took some photos with my Blackberry, but it’s too dark inside for any of them to be presentable. Jewel’s Catch One’s location of Pico/Arlington is not the most desirable of neighborhoods and the place really looks shoddy from the outside. The parking lot is small and can accommodate only about a 120 cars, and parking on the streets is scare, but you’ll manage somehow, trooper. When you walk upstairs and approach the front entrance though, looks are deceiving. The place is huge! It can accommodate at least 500 – 600 people comfortably. There is a stage for the DJ and MC’s, which is pretty much mandatory for a Respect promotion. If you ever do attend an event, you’ll understand why — entertainment at its finest! Bathrooms are clean and drinks are priced just right. NEWCASTLEBEERFOR $ 4! The Jaggermiester is ice cold on tap as well. Respect promotions are my favorite parties to go to on a Thursday night. Hope to party with you guys sometime soon!
