Bobbie Oliver is not only a wonderful teacher, but also the most inviting and nurturing teacher you could possibly imagine. Her experience is extensive and she is not afraid to tell you the good, bad and ugly as well as the fulfillment you will get from listening to your authenic voice. She does not try to make her voice yours. Everyone’s life experiences and sense of humour is valued here. She also runs a safe space for women to practice and perform. Her shows are never ‘bringers’ and often the cheapest in LA. 5.00 cover on Saturday nights with great comedians performing 12 – 15 minute sets. Check this place out if you haven’t. The energy is infectious, the space is warm, and totally inviting!

Came here on a Saturday night to watch my friend do stand up. This studio is small but very comfortable and inviting. I love the couches and the little shelf in front of you to put your drinks on. The studio is basically the size of a bedroom. It was five dollars per person to get in and they have no drink minimum. They do offer beverages via donation. They do offer parking in the back but it was hard to figure it out so we just did street metered parking. The studio is on the second floor which is kind of hard to see from the street.

Tao Comedy Studio is my favorite comedy venue in LA. Where else can you go with such a reasonable cover($ 5), no drink minimum, yet a consistently kick-ass show. Bobbie and Chris create opportunities for many aspiring comics and are very funny. Bobbie is one of my favorite comedians and an inspiration. In addition, their open mics are great. Everyone who signs up gets a chance and the crowd that comes out is very supportive. The shows, mics, and classes are always affordable-yet much higher quality than many places that will charge you much more.

Jake Belcher is amazing! We love his comedy. Thanks for adding him to the line-up! This was definitely a cozy setting so be prepared to share a sofa with a stranger. Thanks for the laughs, Tao!

This has to be one of the nicest places I have performed at. I can’t wait to come back and do a ton of open mic’s here.

I’ve taken both the StandUp Academy stand-up comedy and improv classes. Bobbie Oliver is a nurturing teacher of stand-up. She uses immediate, positive feedback to help her students learn how to deliver jokes that are right for their own style. John Fontaine leads the improv classes. His breadth of knowledge is incredible. If you are an actor or other entertainer, you need to take his class. John focuses on creating believable characters using improv. If you are a writer, these classes will help you develop plot and character. Most of all, StandUp Academy workshops and classes are fun! Even if you have no intention of doing comedy for a living, you will gain confidence that goes beyond the stage.

Bobbie is an AMAZING teacher! She inspired me to take the class by her dedication and love for the comedy world. If you have ever been curious what being a stand up comic is all about… take her classes! You won’t be sorry!
