Kim Thai Food

I was craving some thai food and decided to Unilocal it. Found kim thai food so I phoned it in. I was shocked to find it inside a swapmeet, but I was more surprised how good the food was. I ordered pork nam-​tok, pork jerky and papaya salad. All of them were amazing!

Too busy. Prices have increased and now they don’t provide vegetables. Horrible service today!

The best papaya salad in CA for me so far and also crispy pork skin with sticky rice good as well.

Wasn’t expecting much from this place being in a swap meet. The guy taking my order recommended Yum #1, I wasn’t in the mood for pork but took his advice and ordered it to go with some sticky rice anyways and I’m glad I did. It was soooo delicious, probably the best I’ve had so far. I can’t wait to come back and try the other items on the menu.

I love this place. I used to live like 5 mins away and even tho now I live close to the downtown area I try to make it there once or twice a month in my day off FYI the mall close every Tuesday.
I like the menu because it’s not pricey. Most of the skewers are $ 2 Papaya Salad was $ 5 but now $ 6 but it’s still ok. Lots of people complain about the taste Yes you’re right. It depends on who makes it for you and if you go there on Saturday and Sunday they have put everything they have to offer you. Fresh vegetables and more stuffs not like on the weekday.
One thing that bugs me the most is Nancy. She looks angry all the time and kinda rude. You have to say Hi first and tell her if it’s for here or Togo. Why’s that? I like the other 2 ladies one is the owner and one is just a worker there. They are sweet and more kind.

My hairdresser told me about this place. I’m glad she told me that it’s in the back of an indoor swapmeet and they don’t have a huge menu.
So one day I decided to drop in and the way I ordered was looking at the pictures on Unilocal.The menu was written in Thai. The cashier was very nice and the stall was small but it was neat to see all the herbs and other stuff they were selling. I ordered the following:
Bamboo Salad — Yum!!! If you love bamboo, this is the perfect dish. It was sour and spicy, the way I like it.
2 sausages and 1 chicken satay — I’m not a fan of these. Maybe I was suppose to get a sauce of something but they were very bland and tough to eat.
Thai Iced Tea — It was good, nothing special.
I don’t know how much each item was since the menu was written in Thai but I spent less than $ 20 for everything.
Next time I’m going to get the Bamboo Salad, Pad Thai and Papaya Salad and it will all be for me!!!

I did not know they had food stalls here. The best Thai food and nice!

If you want legit Thai food, if you’re tired of watered down, mild flavored Thai food, come holla at Kim Thai food. You ain’t had Thai food, if it ain’t spicy, full of spices and flavors that make you wanna say «ooooooooh prajao.» Wash your stanky hands cuz you gotta come correct, use your hands with sticky rice and duck larb, num tok, papaya salad. Come get with the best, please believe.

A hidden gem located in the back of swap meet! Their food taste exactly the same as the food in Thailand with better quality ingredients. Even the music and the way they decorate, feels like i’m in Thailand. Very reasonable price also. And they only accept cash. By far the most authentic Thai food around town.

I love the Papaya Salad here! Definitely authentic taste. If you want something spicy definitely DONT ask for spicy. Ask for medium spicy because that will still give you that spicy burn but it’s barely tolerable. If you are a risk taker try the spicy or Thai spicy, but have plenty of water nearby. This is the only place I will go for papaya salad. And the sticky rice is perfect. Please give this place a shot, you won’t regret it!

I love this place. Little food stall at the back of a NoHo swap meet. Quite possibly the best Papaya Salad and sticky rice I’ve ever tasted, period. Grilled Pork skewers, Thai Pork Sausage, Steamed Fish with Coconut Curry (like a Thai tamale), the unbelievable «Yum #1» (a savory pork «salad» of a sort with mint & crispy pork cracklings) and MUCH more.
Each time I visit, I try something new and each new thing is better even than I’d hoped. Definitely worth a visit.

I came here after reading reviews about how good the papaya is and how it’s much like Laos food. It is definitely not like Laos style food nor that great. The sausage had a weird taste as well as the sticky rice and papaya. I don’t know how to describe the taste but it definitely was off. If you’re looking for Lao style food this is not the place.

Laos food is a staple for me and my family. After not finding any other food places that offer a Lao type cuisine, I decided to go out of my way and stop here.
FIRST, the address on here is completely wrong. I figured it out once I read another reviewers post. It is inside the Swap Meet building located in the way back. You should park on the far left back side of the building theres an entrance there.

SECOND, I ordered the papaya salad laos style but it came out super sour. I thought they made me sour mango papaya for a sec! It was spicy but waaaaay too sour. Did not taste like how Laos ppl make it. I SERIOUSLY DONT KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE RAVING ABOUT. Obviously they haven’t had REAL papaya.
THIRD, I ordered the whole tilipia fish just to find out they didnt even scale the fish and just fried the whole thing. Who wants to eat fish scales? The only thing I enjoyed was the small container of Pik Nam I bought with sticky rice. If anyone else knows of any places that offer Laos food in the L. A area, please message me! Overall, quite disappointed.

It’s called «Thai food» but in reality it is Lao cuisine. Don’t expect the sweet versions most Americans are accustomed to. Lao food is more savory and spicy. Try the steamed catfish with herbs. WOW.

It’s hard to review this place without having my mouth water at the thought of their freshly deep friend pork grinds and Laotian style Papaya Salad. They’re able to incorporate the right amount of fermented fish that it doesn’t over power the whole dish. Ask for medium spicy because the owner, who cooks everything herself can be quite heavy handed with her backyard chilies. We also order Grilled Pork Neck which was nice and tender, but a bit on the dry side. Tom Yum Intestine was spicy and sour just as it should be. The intestines were super tender and not chewy whatsoever.
The only downside about this place is being too far from home… Darn

OMG this place is amazing I was able to get 5 dishes all of which cost me under $ 20 bucks! The stand only accepts CASH so be sure to stop by the ATM before coming here. Thanks to Unilocal,I was able to get some authentic thai style street food. I ordered:
1) Thai sausage — there’s a bite to it, right amount of spices and herbs, and the meat is cured to perfection.
2) Barbecue pork skewers + Sticky Rice — can’t go wrong with this thai street food staple
3) Pad Thai — didn’t get to try this, but got this for the BF who loves pad thai. He said reminds me of this cheap place during his PhD days in Berkeley. It was only $ 6 bucks for a hefty portion.
4) Papaya Salad — wow not for the faint of heart. If you cannot handle spicy food, this dish is not for you. I got the mild and it left me in tears… I think the cook was making big batches and didn’t know to separate spicy vs mild. But it was still good.
I told my mom about this place and she said she gets food from there all the time and never told me about it. Wow. Thanks mom for hiding this wonderful stand from me.

This is my favorite thai restaurant in usa. And only one restaurant that I give a review. The taste is real thai taste. Love it!

Some people mistakenly thought this was closed but it’s actually located inside the Swap Meet building next to El Super market.
My wife and I come here about once a week, they have the best som tum (papaya salad) in Los Angeles. I don’t know where they get the fish sauce they use to make this but it’s AMAZING and as authentic as you’ll get to real Isaan Thai Food.
If you’ve been to Thailand or would love to try traditional Isaan/​Lao food then this is the place for you. It’s good to go with a Thai person because a lot of the dishes are not on the picture menu.

Never knew this place existed until I started working around the area. My mother is northeastern Thai so this place really hits the spot for me. I really liked her Thai Isaan sausage and Kim and the other workers were so nice. Also, the food is so reasonably priced. I look forward to coming here again with my mom and best friend to check out their other dishes.
