Delicious fresh lunch food. And now they deliver. Wow. They’re great about food allergies. The only reason I left out a star is because I’d love to see some bread-free dining options.

Damn, these are tasty sandwiches. And very shocked to see only around 75 reviews of this place. There was only one other customer that came in during the duration of my meal. I love the inclusion of artichoke, makes it taste so much better. The baguettes they use here are quite hard and crunchy; don’t be surprised if you walk away from your meal with a scuffed up palate or gums. Onto the food: #11THEMEATBALL: A sandwich composed of meatballs, burrata, tomato sauce, mayo, red onions, and parmesano reggiano. Probably one of the best meatball sandwiches I’ve ever eaten. They didn’t go overboard with the tomato sauce so I was able to eat it without making a large mess. The mayo adds an interesting flavor profile to the sandwich as well; I’m glad they they overdo the mayo like they do at Jimmy John’s. #99SOPRESSATA: Consists of sopressata, provolone, olive oil, mayo, balsamic, red onions, artichokes, and arugula. SIMPLYDELICIOUS. You can definitely taste the saltiness/savoriness from the salami and the sweetness from the balsamic. Their pickled vegetables help complement the sandwich as well. Can’t go wrong with their signature sandwich. #88ITALIANMEATS: similar to the #99 Sopressata but includes a variety of cold cuts like capocollo and mortadella. I say you can’t go wrong with either the Sopressata or the Italian Meats. My only wish is that the sandwiches had a bit more content to them; I agree with some of the other Unilocalers when they say that they were a bit skimpy. And I also wish that they were open longer than 11am-4pm. Only open for 5 hours a day? What a tease… Metered parking in the vicinity.

Pretty sure I just had the best sandwich of my life. I had the Fontina and Provolone and added avocado. I was depressed the restaurant was closed but good lord, this was delicious and they’re on Eat24!

I read about this place in. Facebook group for locals in the echo park/silverlake area. The group taunted this as the best sandwich place in the area so I gave it a try today for the first time. I got the Italian meats sandwich. This was not a disappointment! It was a truly splendid sandwich. It was Fresh and full of wonderful flavor, I was so happy with it I cannot imagine getting a sandwich any place else now. This may have ruined all other sandwich joints for me! Thank you for making lunch great!

Literally the best meatball sandwich ever… Period. I don’t even like meatball sammys because one… I’m Italian. Two… They usually are sloppy and annoying but this one is money and delicious and on a baguette. So so good.

How are there only ~70 reviews for Sopressata here?! You guysssss, get IN here. The genius behind Black Hogg opened up a super accessible sandwich shop that is perfect for an afternoon beer and nosh. Not a huge fan of large messy sandwiches — so, for me, these are the perfect size. Crispy light bread(we we’re talking about how much we LOVE Larchmont Wine & Cheese, owner overhears us, and tells us that’s what inspired his shop and that he sources same bread!!), good beer selection, simply delicious flavors. Go in. Get a Sopressata! Get the Turkey & Avocado! Get the Meatball! Deng, get it all!

Ordered the Sopressata. Bread, check. Arugula, check. Meat, hardly. Cheese, even less. Artichoke, nonexistent, at least on this half. The flavor is there but I expected something a little more hearty and not so much filler. The ingredients are quality. Nice try? Nope. We also ordered the Chopped Salad, which was anything but chopped. I even went back to check the menu to see if I had misread. Nope, it clearly states: «CHOPPED Vegetarian Salad». How do you get that one wrong? The service was friendly but the meal was a disappointment overall.

Trendy little sandwich shop in the heart of silver lake. While is hangs on the pricey side I definitely enjoyed both of my sandwiches! Paid about 22 dollars for 1 tuna and olive oil sandwich and 1 sopressata sandwich. Both were large and delicious! If you’re super hungry you can finish a whole one in one sitting but If you’re down for a drink and a half sandwich you’ll leave with a tasty meal to take home for later. The bread they use is hard and crunchy which is actually something I love because I love a good crunch in my sammie. However I know some may prefer bread on the softer side. The crunch complimented the tuna and the olive oil/balsamic combo really brought out the flavor in the sandwich. Tasty overall. The sopressata was my favorite. The meat was savory and paired great with the cheese. A perfect picnic sandwich. I still think the place is a little overpriced but what do you expect from a small shop in trendy silverlake. Service was good and the place was clean. I would come back, but only if I was in a really specific mood(for that sopressata probably)

The best tuna sandwich ever! The other sandwiches are great too! It’s nice to have a local spot that does one thing very well at fairly reasonable price. They also serve beer on tap which gets brownie points with me.

The Black Hogg lunch concept is brilliant! The trusty dinner menu has been tucked away for a couple of hours to make room for the new luncheon transition by way of sandwiches & salads. My original variety is as follows: #55 Olive-Oil Tuna Sandwich /Brown Rice + Market Veggie Salad /Cap’n Crunch Cookie & a bottle of Bundaberg on ice. Magnifique! A quick description for the sandwich — The baguette has a nice crispy exterior crunch with a light fluffy interior, dressed in aged balsamic, EVOO, mayo, red onion + wild arugula, all of which makes for an already great experience, but Noooo, they had to make it even better. The star of the show, besides the Tuna is the Medium-Boiled Organic Egg. It transcends decadence. TMI? I apologize.

Good bread, yummy flavors(still a big fan of the olive oil tuna with balsamic sando), delicious spicy peppers on the side, and now they have salads too! I wish they were open on Sundays! Big fan.

There’s something very satisfying about grabbing one of the Sopressata sandwiches on a warm afternoon. Sitting there in their restaurant and watching people walking their dogs outside while calmly chewing away at their wonderful and perfectly crispy sandwiches just hits some very special spot for me. I wouldn’t say that it’s the best sandwich I’ve ever had, but it really is something I come back to regularly to enjoy.

This is the BEST spot in LA to get a lunch sandwich. I have no hesitation in saying the following statement: Sopressata has the best tuna sandwich I’ve ever had. It’s perfect. Add a side of chips, and you’re set. They have a great classic Italian, too. Recently they ventured out with 2 non-sandwich dishes. I tried one, a noodle dish with a fried egg. 10 out of 10. They also have a small, but awesome beer selection, Stump town coffee, and some great cookies in their rotation. Especially the captain crunch cookie. Wow Prices are cheap, considering the quality of the ingredients. There is never a long line. I would get in my car, call and place my order, drive there(less than 1 mile away) go in, pay, and get my sandwich. In and out within 3 minutes. Home in 5 minutes.

Sometimes you just want a good italian sandwich without wanting to drive all the way to bay cities. I had this place bookmarked for ages but never made it out until today. Came her around 1230pm on a thursday afternoon for a lunch meeting. I got the #88(italian meats) which had the extra coppa and mortadella otherwise it was the same as the #99(sopressata). Same price($ 9) so it is worth getting a taste of the extra stuff. Washed it down with allagash white(good pairing). I was generously treated to lunch so everything tasted that much better. It is def different from bay cities(and almost 2x’s the price) and I wonder if it is even fair comparing them. The bread here is smaller and the filling isn’t as hefty but I loved the aged balsamic, the artichokes, and the wild arugula which elevated the taste for me(reminiscent to what the father’s office did to the traditional burger). Also there is great seating here and the ambiance is much more enjoyable than the craziness that is bay cities. I haven’t yet tried eagle rock deli or mario’s deli, which from the looks of their photos, are closer to what bay cuties offers anyway. There is street parking and a good, chill vibe with great chillaxing music. You can def have conversations and long meetings here as it isn’t as hectic here as I had imagined with all the hype surrounding black hogg. No changing table in the single stall bathroom so I doubt I will bring my baby here unless it is for a quick bite or for take out. Otherwise, I will definitely be back to try out some of the other offerings!

Far and away the best east side sandwich shop that I’ve been to. All sandwiches are fairly priced, the sweet aged balsamic and the crispy bread makes for one hell of a sandwich. I’m going to finish knocking off their menu but so far the highlights are the Turkey and Avocado, Italian Meats, and Olive Oil Tuna. I always come near the end of lunch at around 2PM and it’s always quiet. I should try to come earlier, I feel like it’d be a great place to get some work done, enjoy a good sandwich, and have a peaceful east side afternoon.

Going against the grain, but I wasn’t blown away by Sopressata. I swung by to get take-out on a lazy Saturday afternoon last month. Craig P. had tried their sandwiches once before and suggested it for a quick lunch. With the help of staff, I got two of their most popular sandwiches: Italian Meats and Tuna & Olive Oil, as well as Bundaberg ginger beer and sparkling pink grapefruit drink(altogether $ 30). The waiting time was short and the entire take-out process was relatively fast. I thought both sandwiches were okay, nothing mind-blowing. I hadn’t taken any notes(since it was take-out) and I barely remember what the contents of the sandwiches were. The most memorable thing is that the bread was on the hard side so it scuffed up the roof of my mouth pretty badly. We did save half of the Tuna & Olive Oil and it strangely tasted better later in the evening. Decent sandwiches but if you must choose, I’d say skip Sopressata and go to Black Hogg for dinner instead.

One of my favorite parts from the movie Back to the Future is when Marty McFly(played by Michael J. Fox) is playing the guitar at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance. While, stumbling and looking at the photo of himself, Marty notices that he’s disappearing in the picture. In the background, you hear the song«Earth Angel» by Marvin Berry And The Starlighters, as his mom and dad finally kiss for the first time. He sprouts back to life, realizing that his parents have certainly fallen in love. Fast forward almost 30 years after that scene was shot and I’m sitting inside Sopressata at Black Hogg on a Friday afternoon, waiting for my sandwich to arrive at the table. That very song«Earth Angel» plays over the speaker and I’m reminiscing the past. Comfortable as I can be, I notice that the restaurant menu carries a very easy lunch selection from 11am to 3pm, Tuesday thru Saturday. Word around the Unilocal water cooler is that their simple yet tasty sandwiches are worth every bite. #99SOPRESSATA(Italian Dry Salami) Molinari & Sons Sopressata, Provolone Piccante DOP, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Aged Balsamic, Mayo, Artichokes, Red Onion, Wild Arugula. More proof as to why I heart sandwiches. So straight forward and clean, you can really taste that salami, with a burst of mildly sweet and salty flavor. #66TURKEYANDAVOCADO Roast Turkey Breast(Whole Muscle), California Avocado, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Aged Balsamic, Mayo, Red Onion, Wild Arugula. Filled with creamy avocado and fresh ingredients, that turkey is something else. The bread used here reminds me of the French baguette, very much like Banh Mi. It’s tough and resilient, so be careful against the roof of your mouth. The venue doesn’t look like much from the outside. It could use a good makeover, but you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. It’s what’s inside that counts. Yet, the interior of the eatery is so bare and plain. Several tables and an ordinary counter to place your order. Just sandwiches, chips, and drinks(including beer and wine). You get a small side of carrot, jalapeños, and cauliflower. Not much to notice and somehow compliments the hoagie well. If you know the Silverlake area, meter parking is a must. Don’t be fooled by the scenery. Just take a stab at Black Hogg’s version of the midday meal. You can thank me later.
