Delightful café – fantastic pastries, nice staff and a comfortable environment.

The Iced Caramel Latte was so amazing that I ordered a second one before leaving. The slightly burnt caramel taste was perfect and very much enjoyable. We also ordered the Avocado Tartine and the Egg Salad Sandwich. Both of which were delicious! The Tartine had the perfect amount of dill and lemon flavor to be both savory and refreshing. The Egg Salad Sandwich is probably one of the best egg salad sandwiches I’ve ever had and the baguette it was served on was crunchy and fresh. The ambience was very casual but very cute. It took a lot of self control to prevent myself from taking pictures of everything(though I did take a picture of every single thing I ate). The inside seating was tiny and homey and the outside patio was adorable. The reason this review gets 5 stars is due to the service. The staff were warm and friendly and very patient with all of our questions. They were also very accommodating in regards to all my allergies. I’ll definitely be returning!

This place is adorable and has a great aesthetic. However, I’m always so disappointed with the lack of vegan options. To their credit, they do have a vegan banana bread of some sort most of the time. Still– that’s usually it. And they only have almond milk — not soy milk, which makes a huge difference in lattes for me. I wish I could have more options here, because they have tons of other food and baked goods! But I just always go to Chango which is a block away, where they have lots of vegan food and treats, and soy milk. The service is also always friendly though!

Came across this coffee shop while strolling before my Sunday morning yoga class. It immediately grabbed my attention because of the«Tea House» text written on the outside wall. I love love love coffee and tolerate tea but am desperately trying to hand over one of my loves from coffee and give it to tea. Theirs selection of tea is pretty diverse. Black, green, white, and a few others. Of course the names are fancier than that but I forgot the actual names so the simple one will due. Anyway, while I stopped in for tea I ended up getting coffee. And it was amazing! Amazing! Perfectly roasted. Not too acidic. Worth the $ 3 and some odd cents. Even better than the coffee was the bite size sample plate of raspberries coffee cake left by the register. The cake was delish. Moist, sweet, sugary, basically amazing !! I’ll defiantly stop by again when I am in the area.

My new favorite place for lunch! I have only had take out but this is the best! The salmon sand which is a wonderful concoction. Most of the menu is delightful and fresh. So glad they are in the neighborhood!

The service here is excellent and the Petits Fours are very good. The display case had tons to choose from(makes it harder not to try all of them at one time). The price point is very reasonable for how long they take to make them.

While the service was nice and the desserts beautiful, i can’t help but feel that $ 4 for a petite four is pricey, its two bites, half that would be better or if they offered a deal when buying a dozen or half dozen. I got 5 different ones($ 20!!) and while they were very pretty and perfect for gifts, I was not a fan of the floral ones, the chocolate was much better. I will have to be back and try something else next time, they have a great menu of small plates here as well. Tiny location, parking can be tricky as well.

This place is neighborhood gem. The tartines are amazing and they have the best leafy salads as sides with a simple but very fresh citrus dressing. The smoked salmon tartine is one of my favorites but the avocado with the orange confiture is amazing as well. I also recommend the curried chicken sandwich it’s very different, light but filling at the same time. Valerie is famous for her chocolates, I prefer the dark ones. She also does fantastic autumn fruit tart. I’ve ordered her cakes before too, recommend the rose petal passion fruit cake, it is out of this world! I wish it was a bit bigger and you could sit a large party. It’s only good for up to 4 people if you ask me, the tables are small. If you live in the neighborhood they also sell bread lounge bread. Hope this helps

I love coming to this place on weekdays. Though their menu for non-pastry food is limited, what they do have is very good and unique spins on a lot of French-café classics. Their coffee has to be some of my favorite coffee I have ever had, period. I always seem to gravitate towards the Iced Caramel Latte, I think they use Dulce de Leche to flavor it, as it’s pretty thick, but not overbearingly ‘syrupy’. Good service too, which is rare in these parts. P. S.: They were playing Youth Lagoon the last 4 times I went in on the speakers, which pretty much meant they’ll have my business for life.

Really pricey at about $ 4 – 5 for a bite size matcha petit four, but it IS good! I loved the white chocolate and matcha combo… yum! They also had samples of the durango cookie, which was tasty as well!

It’s been years since I last had the petit fours and wanted to visit their second location. Street parking in a squishy neighborhood. The interior retail area is still tiny but it looked like they have a larger space at the side of the building for outdoor seating. SERVICE: Good HERBEDGOATCHEESESCONE: Fresh, soft, and yummy. Good to take on a picnic. PETITFOURS: Champagne, Rose, Lavender, Chocolate. They didn’t have berry flavors that day. I still think they are TOO sweet which probably has to do with the frosting and cake ratio in these tiny cakes. It’s more like a candy than a cake. It would be nice if they offered these as regular size cakes. The flavors were good, except for the lavender — it reminded me too much of potpourri or soap. Rose was my favorite — the rose flavor is very subtle. The petit fours would make nice gift, an alternative to chocolates. They didn’t have the vaunted salted caramel bread pudding, which I’d like to try next time.

Best spot for brunch or lunch in Echo park! Fresh ingredients and to die for simple flavors. There portions are big but not tooooo big. I love their drinks and tea selection as well! I have a bunch of food allergies and everyone is always so kind and informative with helping me make my order quick. The ambiance is simple and cozy at the same time. Maybe because it smells so damn good every time Im there. You can sit inside or outside on the patio. It’s right on Echo park Blvd but still quiet and cute.

The best pastries & coffee in the neighborhood, and maybe in the city. Tyler makes my favorite latte.

I came here because I love the Valerie location in DTLA in Grand Central Market. The lattes here are no less amazing! I ordered the iced latte — perfectly strong and flavorful enough for that mandatory morning cup! FYI — Parking may be tough as it’s all street parking.

The staff here is very kind and friendly. The food here is also divine! Perfect for a small snack or light lunch, with a gorgeous open air patio tucked away on a cozy, street corner. I had a delicious tea, a Ginger Mate Latte with Almond Milk, and a wonderful Rose Petit Four, that was scrumptious.

Skipped all the fuss you’ll find at GCM on a Saturday and just came to the Echo Park location. Much more tranquil and relaxed feeling at this location. It’s almost as if they turned one of the neighborhood homes into a small kitchen. Despite having ate so much at an event prior to our arrival, my girlfriend and I were in the mood for some dessert. We could have gone with their ever so popular petit fours but we saw this strawberry panna cotta and instantly decided that would be the thing to satiate our sweet tooth. This Italian dessert is a light custard, and here they top it off with a delicious strawberry jam; which perfectly compliments the yogurt-like taste. I also had a goodnight rose kombucha from Better Booch which was so helpful in settling my stomach after all the food I had just ate. I think Valerie Confections is a miniature getaway from all the commotion you’ll find in LA almost everyday of the week. If it’s sweets, something savory, or simply a cup of coffee you want, but want to skip all the fuss, this is a decent substitute. BTW, they serve Verve coffee, one of my personal favorites!

Nice little gentrified place with a variety of confections as well as meals. Indoor and patio seating. Petit Four pack a lot of calories and sweetness, nice for treat. Bread pudding, cookies, quiche, meat pies and sweet breads. Salads and sandwiches on what look like home made bread. Verve coffee. No artificial sweetener, variety of natural additives for coffee and tea. Some souvenirs of Echo Park area as well as tea pots and cook books. Pretty nice people and New York prices!

I came to this location expecting to the coffee crunch cake with honeycomb after I had seen it on «Unique Sweets,» but unfortunately they only serve that at the Grand Central Market location. I did however try their bacon potato hand pie which was amazing! As well as a crème fraîche scone, also great. Great texture, amazing taste, and not too dry. I also opted for 2 orange petit fours which were very delicate and delicious, as well as a iced matcha(which by the way is very easy to mess up) but it was very smooth and creamy! Friendly staff, parking on streets, cute place to sit outside an enjoy some pastries or food that they also serve.

This updated review is way overdue but here it is! A few days after I posted my review I exchanged messages back and forth with one of the owners that explained to me the reasons why they didn’t get back at me when I first messaged the business. Also, he assured to me that he called all the Valerie’s locations once he read my first message to let them know about the moldy petit fours. I tried coming to the place many times during my pm communications with the owner, but due to short staff they were closing earlier than its closing hours posted here on Unilocal that week. So I came back a couple of weeks ago earlier. I’m pretty sure they were just opened as they were busy cooking, preparing ingredients etc in the open kitchen. I was with a friend that I needed to catch up with as I had long time to not talk to her so it was the perfect occasion to give this place a second try. Let me start by telling you that they absolutely redeemed themselves with me and my mom who finally tried fresh and yummy petit fours. At first she was hesistant to eat them but she ended up loving this fresh batch of petit fours I took her home. Also, there IS a restroom through the wooden left hand side door of the main entrance. Well, my friend and I had a great time catching up over some great milk oolong tea, freshly cooked scrambled eggs with added prosciutto(comes with the house salad or toast and your choice of preserve), delightful durango cookie(this one of a kind chocolate chip with cocoa nibs and salted cookie is pure deliciousness!) Being served by the amiable and hospitable old server of the place. I wish I remember his name to give him a shout out. Flies aren’t there as crazy as they were on my first visit during summer. To wrap this up, in my first review I was so pissed off that I said I would never come back here again but after the owner explained to me the reasons(parents duties’ kind of reasons) why he couldn’t do it and give the place a second successful try I would definitely keep coming back whenever I can.
