Ate taco lunch special today and it was not edible. The only flavor the taco meat had was grease. Not good.

About what you’d expect for Mexican in Lubbock. Pretty on par with other places. Tamales are great, but smothered in hot chili sauce which takes away from the flavor of the tamales. Chips are served cold, which to me is odd. Salsa is flavorful, but a bit on the hot side. Kids chicken strips are pretty good, not frozen crappy fast food style like most restaraunts. Rice is a bit dry, butvtastes okay.

If you stick with the basics… taco, burrito, enchiladas then it’s pretty decent.

Visiting Lubbock, took a chance on this place. I would say we made the wrong choice. Our server was attentive, but there was a lot of time between her visits to our table. I had the carne guisado plate. It was disappointing. The pork had almost as much fat as meat and the sauce was fairly flavorless. I’m always excited to see this item on a menu at Mexican restaurants… I was not excited after trying it at Gordito’s. I don’t know if we caught the place on a bad night, but nothing was clicking for them. They were not terribly busy(there were a few open tables), even though it was a Friday night. Our queso took about 20 minutes to get to the table. My daughter’s soft taco came out as a hard shell taco. The wife’s chimichanga contained a piece of unshredded chicken the size of a tennis ball. We won’t be visiting this place again.

It’s consistently good. Never had a bad experience or a bad meal here. I will continue to spend my money here and recommend it to all my friends. Try the Monterey Queso and the Carne Guisada. Highly recommend both.

Had the Carne Guisado lunch plate again and it was delicious. The server was very prompt and attentive. She brought chips and the drinks out within a few minutes of ordering.

The carnitas were the worst carnitas I have ever eaten. Tough, stringy, no taste and overdone. The carnita sauce was cold(they informed me this is how they serve their sauce — more like a salsa) and the pieces of carnitas were literally the size of ping pong balls. Chips are thin and crispy and good; salsa is good. Queso is average at best. Waitress seemed in left field but worked hard. I live right down the street and come maybe once a year when I don’t have time to go anywhere else. Nachos were good and refried beans good as well but the rice was a yellowy blob of mess. Frozen margarita was a nice addition to an other wise sub par meal. I’m sure they have other items on their menu that are great!

Ok it’s not the worst mexican food I’ve ever had but it’s also not the best either. I don’t believe that this place would do well in a neighborhood that was predominantly Mexican. Not a bad deal as far as portions vs. price go. For my family of 5 to have lunch I paid less than $ 50(not including top). The chips and salsa were good and they kept our table full of them until our food showed up. The food cake out quickly so it’s not made to order(I don’t know if many mexican restaurants that do). My ground beef Gorditas had a good flavor and had plenty of green leaf lettuce and tomatoes with shredded Monterrey cheese. My wife had a combo plate that had a chile verde Gordita red cheese enchilada and a taco, both plates served with beans and rice. The taco shells were of the store bought variety(not authentic). The corn meal pockets for the Gorditas had a flavor like they had been made a while back and stored in a fridge for a while. One of my kids had a chicken strip meal served with beans and rice(weird, no fries). Strips were fresh and looked tasty. She’s a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to chicken strips and she said they were good. The rice was strange. It had a bright yellow look to it. Almost like ramen noodles. I don’t know what it was but it didn’t have a good flavor. All in all, mediocre food, decent service, decent price.

I came here based off of previous Unilocal reviews my boyfriend and I had read. Based on the one $. I assumed we were in for a good cheap and delicious meal. What I was met with was something completely different. I ordered the chimichanga which when I got to the center was blistering hot, an indication it had been in a microwave. Then when the check arrived, the total was $ 38. I ordered a chimichanga, my boyfriend ordered the Saltillo. We shared a cup of queso and each had an iced tea. Who charges $ 2.69 for a glass of iced tea!!! Needless to say it was both our first and last time to visit this establishment.

Excellent authentic Mexican food. Came in from Austin looking for something similar to home. Great place, gorditas and enchiladas were great!

Good, consistent Mexican food. Enchilada plate is spot on for the taste, portion size, and the money. I don’t like their calabacitas-the zucchini is bitter in it. Good salsa.

The service was good but the queso was very weird. It looked and tasted like nacho cheese from a football game and the rice had a very odd taste. But, the enchiladas and beans were very tasty.

We were looking for a place to eat during a crazy busy weekend in Lubbock and decided the further we could get from campus the better. Our group of 6 of quickly seated and served which was a pleasant surprise on a Saturday night. Half of us had fajitas of some kind(I had beef) and they were pretty good. The meat was a just a little bit tough but it tasted good. The chips, tortillas, and the sopapillas were also pretty good. The only reason I don’t rate Gorditos any higher was because the service. The guy was helpful but not very attentive. It was frustrating having to ask for silverware and every time I wanted a refill. If we had a different server then it is entirely likely they would get a four or even five stars.
