This is the best BBQ in Lubbock! Hands down. Add a glass of Moose Drool and your in heaven. Whether it be Beef, pig, or bird they do barbecue right!

Amazingly great BBQ at this little place away from the normal restaurants. I only had the sliced brisket sandwich but it was excellent. Service was quick(my food was ready before I finished getting my sweet tea) and friendly. My only regret is I didn’t try more as we were passing through. But this is a definite must-stop and I WILL return.

Visiting from California and all I wanted from Texas was some authentic bbq. I found it and then some with this place. Best ribs, brisket and sauce I’ve ever had. It’s even topped with a great atmosphere and really good service. Wish I could bring this back with me on the plane…

Best BBQ in Lubbock by far. Looks tiny on the outside but big and roomy inside and very professionally appointed inside. Food is outstanding, fall of the bone ribs. The owners are great people and the staff make sure everything is done perfect. Save room for their Banana Pudding!

I found this place on Unilocal and since it had already had over 4 stars, we decided to give it a shot. Dont let the pictures of the outside slow you down, it is quite clean inside and smells amazing! The first night we went, it was later in day, close to closing and they were out of just about everything except for chicken. They were even out of Mac and Cheese. We were a little bummed but the place smelled so good we planned on going the next night, just earlier. Well I am sure glad we did! I had the sliced brisket and regular sausage with a double order of mac and cheese. The brisket was so tender, smoky and delicious! The sausage was more of the same. I ended up trying some other stuff off of the other people in my parties’ plate. I had the chopped brisket which was damn good, the jalapeño sausage which was not as good as the regular sausage but good none the less and the pulled pork-yummylicious! I’ve had better mac and cheese but it was still very good. I mixed in a little bbq sauce in it to spice it up. All of the sauces we had were perfect. We didnt try the extreme though. The staff were just as great, very friendly and helpful. If you are in Lubbock and enjoy BBQ, make the trek to The Shack! You will not be disappointed! I will be coming back when I am in Lubbock again some day!

Been searching for some good bbq after moving to Lubbock. Extremely good brisket, with many different side options. I would totally recommend coming here if you are a bbq fan!

ALERT. THEREISGOODBBQINLUBBOCK. I’ve lived here in the Hub City for about seven years now, and I’ve always been underimpressed by the BBQ options. Triple J can be meh, Tom and Bingo’s tends to be a bit overpriced and under-good IMHO, J+M is just okay as well. Since the arrival of The Shack and Evie Mae’s I have hope for West Texas Barbecue again. These guys do it the right way. The ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, and the brisket is stop-eating-and-stare-wistfully-at-your-wife-across-the-table-because-you-have-to-revel-in-all-the-good-things-in-the-world-for-just-a-second good. Their spicy sauce is, as the teens say these days, «on fleek. «Get the cobbler too.

Excellent food. I had the brisket, jalapeño cheese sausage, and ribs. Everything had so much flavor and tender. My sides were the loaded potato salad and Mac and cheese. Both were simply delicious and complimented my meats. Finally for dessert I had the apple pie cheesecake which I must say it is to did for. One of the best desserts I’ve ever tried.

It’s really gratifying to have a couple of joints in Lubbock serving BBQ that deserves to be compared to the legendary places in Central Texas. The Shack is one of those joints, and I think I might like it better than Evie Mae’s because The Shack is actually open five days a week instead of three, and I don’t have to stand in the cold to eat there. The Shack is a restaurant being run as a full-time business — Evie Mae’s, while very good, is a food trailer being run as a part-time hobby(hopefully that will change once they open in their new location). Today at The Shack I had a 2-meat combo with two sides, plus a couple of spare ribs. The moist brisket was served in two generous slices that were indeed moist without being too fatty, and had a deep smoky flavor. The sausage was a jalapeño cheddar link that was snappy with a spicy bite and an easily discernible cheddar flavor. My mac-n-cheese side was rich and gooey and the loaded potato salad was pretty good, too. The star of lunch, though, was the pork spares — fall-off-the-bone tender with a great smoky-spicy-sweet flavor. I’m already looking forward to leftovers for dinner!

I’ve used the term fall of the bone tender, and now realize how blasphemous that was when compared to real BBQ. Here you put the ribs in your mouth and spit out the bones like sunflower seeds, because that’s the only way to eat it. You try to pick up the sliced brisket only to realize, that’s not brisket that’s butter crafted to look and taste like brisket, because thats the only logical explanation for meat the melts the way it did. With four BBQ sauces(regular, sweet, spicy, and extreme) everyone will find something they love here. I wish only one thing different, craft a Mac and cheese that doesn’t take like corn starch and you’ll strike the jackpot.

The barbecue is on par with Franklin’s in Austin! The atmosphere and bar are a blend of down home panhandle with a Dallas liquor selection and a bartender who knows his business. Get there or call early(4:00−4:30) if you want the brisket. They sell out fast.

Ate there for the first time tonight. Please note the two stars are for the entire place… food and the restaurant itself. Parking lot is not that great. If it’s rainy, there are mud holes. Be careful. Not doesn’t keep up ground repairs. The jalapeño /cheese sausage has way too much cheese in it. There were 6 of us and I was not the only one who thought that. The ribs have a sweet rub on them. Not necessarily my cup of tea, but they were so very tender and fell right off the bone. I would not get them again. The brisket was outstanding. I would definitely get it again. The portions are generous. We all left hurting as we ate too much. Overall okay food, but not OUTSTANDING like everyone says. It was cold and rainy today. They had a fireplace going inside. My eyes burned while I was eating. I couldn’t tell if the smokiness was from their BBQ pits or the fireplace. I thought it was just me, but several others wanted to hurry and get out. When we got out and into the cars, all of us stank like bbq smoke. Sweaters, clothes all have to be washed to get smell out. I’m sorry, but you shouldn’t smell this strong when you leave an inside restaurant. Overall not a great experience. Sorry everyone, not sure how this place got so many 5 stars.

The atmosphere is typical Texas country, but the food is great. The brisket is tender, flavorful, and moist, and doesn’t really need the barbecue sauce(however they do have four types). The loaded baked potato salad and beans are good. Also, save room for the apple pie cheesecake. The ribs are also very flavorful and tender. Get there early because they do run out.

Being a farm girl from TX, I grew up on good BBQ. I’ve had BBQ from all over TX and I’m not kidding when I say this is the best in TX. I now live in NM, so when I visit Lubbock I have to visit The Shack. Everyone is very friendly and all of the food is amazing.

I can’t believe I’ve lived in Lubbock for 3 years and I have never been to The Shack! Well that changed tonight as I stopped by to pick up some dinner for me and my lovely wife. I wanted to buy enough of a selection to get a flavor of their dinners so I ordered the brisket, sausage, beans, and what I think they are somewhat famous for, their loaded potato salad. I have to say everything was fantastic! Only one place in Texas that I have been to I think has better barbecue, a little place in Luling TX called the General Store. Anyway, the brisket and sausage were fantastic, the beans were full of flavor, and the loaded potato salad was great. I would highly recommend The Shack for anyone looking for some great barbecue while in Lubbock Texas.

For many years I have been dogging Lubbock for not having good BBQ. When I was a child, this was certainly the case. Compared to Central Texas, Lubbock just paled in comparison. Then came The Shack. This is a wonderful setting for BBQ, and the name appropriately describes the venue, which I could only describe as what seems to be someone’s attempt at piecing together what were previously three different metal sheds/barns coupled with an outdoor patio. The bar is tucked away towards the back of this meandering structure, which makes it both unique(most bars are at the front) and cozy. Then there is the food, which is absolutely the most tender and smoke-filled flavor that one can find in these parts. My particular choice when trying a new BBQ joint is always to opt for the sliced brisket sandwich and beans. The Shack’s version of this BBQ place staple was just as I described above. It was clear that the meat had been recently smoked by its warmth, and the flavor and tenderness was a clear indication that it had been smoked in the right manner: long and on low heat. I like to claim, with perhaps only a smidgen of lack of moderation, that having lived in central Texas, Kansas City and a frequent traveler to Memphis that I know my BBQ. Trust me that this is the best place that I have found in town. I admit that I need to still try Eddies and Wileys and will report my findings, but it is certainly a giant step above all the other places in Lubbock that I have tried and on par with good BBQ in other parts of the country more known for it.

This is 5 stars in the category of killer brisket I pulled up to the Shack and the first thing I saw was a huge pile of neatly stacked mesquite logs. Walking into the shack, the smell was incredible. We all knew we were in for a treat. I ordered all three meats. The ribs were outstanding!!! The brisket is the best I’ve had, perfectly smoked with a nice hump of fat perfectly rendered.
