Prime rib sandwich absolutely lived up to my expectations! Homemade dressings on salad bar were outstanding. ½ off wine night on Wednesday. Peter the bartender was personable and attentive. Traveling on business and will stop in again.

We have been going to Sam’s for years. Anyone who goes to Okemo, knows Sam’s. It is one of the best restaurants in Ludlow, and you cannot go wrong with the menu selection. I must admit, our family(two kids, two adults) usually gets the prime rib — but that’s because it is so good. Better than just about any other steakhouse I’ve been to. Don’t know how they do it. But many other great items on the menu, and the best salad bar around(though the newly opened Chophouse is giving them some competition on that item). Serving staff is just great, never had a poor experience. Especially Mary(who has been there as long as we’ve been going — over 10 years) and Rob. But all of them are friendly, and great service, no matter how busy it gets. And they started having some live music on weekends, which adds a nice touch.

This is apparently an Okemo institution, and for good reason. My boyfriend took me here for dinner on a weekend and the place was packed with stately older white folk in line for the salad bar and sipping wine whilst glancing at other tables to see what they were partaking in. I must admit I was curious about the other orders too. Everything was fantastic and we left stuffed and barely able to fit in the jeans we came in with. Success!

Sam’s Steakhouse was absolutely incredible! This was one of the best restaurants I have been to in a LONG time. Each dish was perfectly cooked, included local flavors and WOWed us. The Vermont-Style Broiled Sea Scallops was the absolute best, most creatively done scallop dish I’ve ever ordered and the portion of scallops was larger than you’d expect. My husband has the pot roast and it was perfectly tender. My brother-in-law and father-in-law had the chicken teriyaki and they both enjoyed their meals. The ONLY reason I can’t give Sam’s 5 stars is that my mother-in-law found a hair in her scallops. The waitress was very apologetic but it did make the meal not-quite-perfect. Otherwise the service, food and wine selection are all excellent. Sam’s is worth the price. We’ll be back the next time we’re in VT!

Hi hopes… Very high hopes… I mean, we had great food in ludlow, loved it so much we can back 6weeks later… But this place sucked. Our waitress watched my wife and I not eat our«famous» steaks … And when I begin to talk to her about how the cow must have just been shot she quickly took our combined $ 75 steaks and disposed of them and gave us a check… Didn’t even ask if we wanted it wrapped or even wanted desert. We paid — left a tip and left That waitress absolutely owned my ass. That’s why she gets one star I’m going to try to post a photo of this famous steak… Hahahaha I wrote this while on the toilet giving a better looking heap of diarrhea that looks better than our food tonight

I didn’t try the food but had a drink at the bar. The atmosphere was great and the bartender was very attentive. They had great wine selection. Will definitely come back and try it for dinner.

A top-notch meal last evening. Between the three of us we had the Bone-In Rib-eye with gorgonzola butter, the Hanger Steak, and the King Crab legs — all three were excellent. Salad bar has a large variety of fresh ingredients. Mud Pie for dessert was also very tasty. Mary our waitress couldn’t have been better. And kudos to Sam’s for using real wine glasses on the tables, not the usual generic restaurant wine glasses.

The hostess was very nice and got the table quickly. The salad bar is fantastic! The service is horrible. the waitress would not replace the fries with steamed vegetables as a side… Forced me to pay the extra. Sage, the«bus girl» was fantastic, refilling water and cleaning the table. My stark, bone-in rib eye was fantastic, cooked just right. Deserts were just ok — bread pudding, apple crisp was good and mud pie is actually a frozen cake.

Made a reservation for New Years Eve and enjoyed a family dinner. The staff was very courteous and professional and attentive to our table. We sat in the section of the Bar butt it was a separate dining area. It was nice but odd that it was carpeted with grey plushy carpet. Especially after they had updated the bathroom to look current and clean. The prime rib was very good as all of us ate this for dinner. Side potato and bread were good as was the salad bar. Salad bar was good but no crumbled bacon. We are in a steak house right? I asked and was told they discontinued the bacon. Odd right? I would come back but it wasn’t the best steakhouse I’ve eaten at.

Great place —food is consistent.. My parents favorite when they are in town. Can’t go wrong with the prime rib or the short ribs. Awesome salad bar too. If you go ask for Mary the waitress she is great!

We arrived and were immediately seated in the bar dining area. I probably would have preferred to have sat in the dining room but this was ok. Patty was our waitress and she was full of energy and knowledge. I had asked about prime rib vs hangar steak and her honest response won me over. She said that I could probably get a good prime rib at any Ludlow restaurant but the Prime Hangar was one of the best cuts available. It was fantastic. My son had the ribs and the meat was perfectly seasoned and just fell off the bone. We shared the seared tuna appetizer which was full of flavor and very nicely served. The salad bar, included with the meal, was full of fresh tasty items and the bleu cheese dressing was thick and chunky. Great place to have a filling tasty meal. I would like to be in the dining room next time as the only drawback was the dark lighting and noise level of the bar area. The dining room looked much more civilized.

The beacon and hanger steak were perfect. This is the best meal I have ever had in Vermont! The staff was gracious and kind to my friends and family. I highly recommend Sams.

I have now frequented Sam’s several times. Each experience has been equally wonderful. To start, the host/owner is warm and friendly. With a big smile, we were led to a comfortable table. The wait staff is charming, efficient and makes the dining experience even more special. The salad and bread bar included with each entrée is large with many choices including three different lettuce choices in addition to baby spinach. The dressings are delicious and making a second trip to the salad bar is hard to resist. I began my meal with the French Onion soup. The broth had just the right proportions of salt, onions, broth and cheese. I love the prime rib which is a generous portion no matter what the size. The end cuts have been available on each visit and the fresh horseradish or creamy horseradish sauce are both available. The mashed potatoes were creamy and flavorful. My dinner companion ordered a fish dish which he said was perfectly cooked and almost creamy in texture. I have been so full on each visit that I have never had room for desert so I can’t comment on that part. They sure looked delicious though. I have passed by Sam’s for years on my trips from Connecticut to Vermont but never stopped until recently. The prices are reasonable and I will now make Sam’s a part of my travels. Bravo!!!

This is a nice restaurant. Nice atmosphere, decent staff. The food is what earns three stars. I actually would give it an extra half star if I could. I got the crab cakes, my wife got the french onion soup and salad. The crab cakes were described as jumbo, but they were medium-sized at best. Taste was good, not great. The french onion soup was good enough but not any different from lesser restaurants. All entrees earn a trip to the salad bar for salad and bread. The salad bar was very ordinary. Just like any other restaurant. i would praise them for having beets. And the beets were very good. The bread from the bread bar was fresh but not particularly good. Just okay. I am impressed that they could accommodate our large group. I gather this is one of the better/nicer restaurants in Ludlow. Worth a visit but keep in mind it’s pricey.

Great people, service and food! We went on a Friday night to celebrate my son’s birthday. They couldn’t have been nicer — allowed us to bring in a few little decorations, used our birthday plates and napkins for dessert… Made it so special. Service couldn’t have been better — Mary rocked everything and provided great advice. We had great wine at a good value. Food ranged from: oysters(so fresh) to prime rib, hangar, filet, and strip, with veggies on the side. Kids and adults loved the salad bar. Everything was cooked perfectly. Two years in a row having our son’s birthday at Sam’s…looking forward to next year.

I’m from the area and used my dining card to try the restaurant., we’ll I have to say I’m glad we went. Although we’re both not big steak eaters my husband had the salmon special and I had the scrod special. Both we’re excellent and cooked just right not dry. Salad bar really good a lot of choices very clean. Waitstaff excellent. Would definetly go back again. Anita from Wallingford.

I had dinner here last Saturday night with a small group of people. The ambiance was nice and our server was attentive and friendly. We started out with the bacon and calamari appetizer. Both were very good. I had the stuffed shrimp dish as my entrée. It was delicious. All three others got steaks and were happy with their entrees as well. You get the salad bar with any entrée, and it is the best salad bar that I have had in a long time. For dessert we shared the brownie sundae and cheesecake. The cheesecake was just ok, but the brownie sundae was amazing!

There are not a lot of great places to eat in the area. If you want a low risk meat and potatoes kind of place, this will work. The service is decent though not the type of place where your tea glass will never be empty. But they are pleasant enough. I had the dry aged bone in ribeye, theoretically medium rare. The meat had nice flavor but was noticeably over cooked. The highlight of the meal was the salad and bread bar. Fresh salad items laid out for your enjoyment, if you are a big fans of salad bars, you shouldn’t be disappointed here.
