Sliced brisket is tender, gristle free and not fat-laden. Note that I called it brisket, not barbecue, since the only smoke you will find is the smell in this hole in the wall restaurant run by a very nice couple. No, this is the last place to go if you want barbecue. Anyone who says this is the best barbecue they have had would have to be a yankee who has never had barbecue.

Maybe I caught them on a bad day, because the reviews I read didn’t match up with my meal. Food was fair at best. I had the brisket, ribs and sausage… none were worth writing home about. Not the best in TX and probably not the best in lufkin.

Pitt Stop is really good homemade food but the prices are getting outragous there… have to weigh your options. Most expensive bbq in town.

Just stopping by for a couple dozen homemade yeast dinner rolls. Ham sliders for dinner tonight! Everyone eating in there loves their BBQ but their sauce us too spicy for a wimp like me.

I accidentally stumbled upon this quaint little bbq place during a road trip with a few friends. Everything about this place was more than I could have hoped for, from the smell of slow cooked bbq to the walls plastered with autographed pictures of country musicians and other celebrities who had dined there. We were immediately greeted by the Ms. Brenda, who welcomed us as if we had been there a million times before. Everything there is home made. I had a hard time deciding what to get, but I finally decided on the beef sandwich with a side of cole slaw, and it did not disappoint. It was absolutely delicious. Brenda then brought some ribs over to table, she gave them to us «on the house so we could go back home to Florida and tell everyone how good they were.» Now let me tell you, I’ve eaten ribs all over, from the famous rendezvous in memphis, as well as all the other top memphis places, dreamland in Atlanta, and various places all over the south. These ribs were some of the best I have ever eaten. They Were fall off the bone tender, absolutely perfect. Anyone looking for a little piece of true Americana and some great barbecue should not pass this place by. I know the next time that I’m passing through lufkin, Texas, I will definitely be stopping by again.

I’ve never had BBQ this good, nor have I tasted such flavorful, interesting BBQ — Everything is handmade, down to the iced tea, the sausage is made by them, by hand, and everything is smoked out back. Rolls are baked daily by their granddaughter. Wonderful, awesome place. Be warned: Applebee’s is not my idea of a good«dining experience». That would be places such as Lutece, or Peter Luger, or Pitt Stop BBQ. See the similarity? Food, service, ambiance, experience, probably I’m that order. If you’re looking for mozzarella sticks and faux Tiffany hanging lamps, go down to the Olive Garden. As the proprietor-Mom put it, «we make it all ourselves, and we don’t serve anything we wouldn’t eat». In NYC it’d be called«artisanal locally sourced handcrafted» BBQ or something similarly absurd. I tried to eat everything in the place. I had a 3-meat platter with beans and potato salad, pork ribs, spicy sausage, sliced beef, iced tea and left with a complementary slice of apple cake after sampling the«butt bits» –head-spinningly delicious little bombs of some sort of Texas/New Orleans fusion of flavor. There just are not many places like this anymore, and in NY they’re either stupid expensive or just few and far between. after traveling for 12 hours with no food I actually resisted the urge to hit Micky Ds or something on the way. I’m so glad I did, and glad I Unilocaled local BBQ places…

Asked a local’s advice on a good bbq place and they recommended this place. The restaurant has a home country feel and the food was excellent. Ordered the sliced beef and the meat was tender and well cooked. Would definitely come back next time I’m in town.

The dining room(if you can even call it that) looked like the makings of a garage sale, or possibly an episode of Hoarding: Buried Alive. Clearly ambiance was not a priority, so I hoped they were instead focusing on the meat. The aging Ma and Pa who run this joint were a tad grizzled, but were both very nice. Good service goes a long way in my book. Their Thursday«Blazin’ Butts» lunch special was understandably gone by 4:00pm, so I settled for a 2 Meat Plate of brisket and ribs, with potato salad and beans on the side. When I unboxed my order, the first thing I noticed was the giant glob of very yellow potato salad. There was a moderate crunch, though not enough to improve the texture. It was ok, but I couldn’t get my palate past all the mustard. The beans had some definite kick to them, which was nicely tempered by equal amounts of sweetness. They also had a really great flavor and were clearly homemade. Sadly, my brisket looked pretty lifeless. There was no crust and no smoky hue. The razor-thin slices fell apart at the slightest touch, suggesting that it was severely overcooked. The brisket was really greasy and had no smoke flavor. All in all, this«meat» was probably better suited for a chopped beef sandwich, but even that might be a stretch. The completely mangled ribs didn’t look any better than the brisket. Half of the meat was already separated from the bones. The crust was rock hard and lacked any seasoning besides salt. I only found minimal smoke at best. I managed to choke down one rib, but couldn’t bring myself to eat the other three. I realize that late afternoon isn’t the ideal time for fresh barbecue, but Pitt Stop’s food had problems that went way beyond timing. The owners were so nice that I really wanted to like this place, it just wasn’t in the cards.

BESTBBQAROUND!!! We were visiting from Los Angeles and everyone in our family said to come to Pitt Stop Bar-B-Que. The homemade BBQ was wonderful. We had the following: — Sliced Beef Sandwich — Ribs — Hot Sausage — Chipped Beef Sandwich — Homemade Peach Cobbler — Sweet Tea Everything was amazing. Definitely cannot get BBQ this good in LA. The owner was so charming and sweet. You don’t get service like that in LA! Great food, Great price, and Great Customer Service. This place is a MUST!

Pros: The food was good My wife enjoyed the nostalgia factor Ok: Not too many things on the menu, so hopefully you like what they have Cons: Not cheap We were charged for cups of ice so we could get water to drink — If I had known we would have just used our water bottles The restaurant is pretty close to being a dump I was completely disappointed that despite the no smoking sign on the front door, we reeked of stale cigarette smoke upon leaving the restaurant, we weren’t even here all that long

Best bbq in texas. He makes a jerk sauce that is sublime. Really unlike anything I have ever tasted. Do NOT be put off by the interior, it felt like being back in my grandfather’s kitchen and if there’s a little crumb still on the table, wipe it off! Then sit down and enjoy some of the best vittles you will ever eat for a very very cheap price. We sampled the Sliced beef, the Chipped beef and the homemade HOT sausage. All super. All 4.50 a sandwich. You can’t do that anywhere. Also had the potato salad and cole slaw, not the best but worth the colour alone! They must have used Colman’s powder for that yellow! Lastly, they have a plethora of hot sauces, including the usual suspects and my favourite Melinda’s Hot Sauces. Their favourite as well, I heard. They carry one I never had and one drop was enough to stop me eating for 5 minutes. VERYHOT. It’s a ghost pepper from India and the sauce is called Melinda’s Naga Jolokia. DONOTATTEMPT if you do not order at least a 3 at your local Thai. Seriously, this is not for the weak. The owner, his wife and daughter must be amongst the friendliest people in Texas and if we had not had an appt. at SFA in Nagodoches, we would have settled in for the day just to listen to their stories. Wonderful experience overall and even though it’s a good 90 miles from my house, I WILLBEBACK and OFTEN!

I was in Lufkin for two days recently and was fortunate enough to be there for the Pitt Stop BBQ, Blazin Butts special. I asked Charles behind the counter for a plate of all of the meats they served, which included, ribs, brisket and sausage. Of course it came with the all the fixins, beans, slaw, bread. The food was great, I ate enough for three and enjoyed every morsel. I wouldn’t say that one thing stood out, but across the board it was really enjoyable. However after I ate the entire plate of food, I realized that they had not given me the Blazin Butts, disaster. Somehow I was able to go back, get a ¼lb and eat every last tasty morsel. I am still not sure what cut the Blazin Butt is, but I can’t wait to go back the next Thursday I am in Lufkin!
