Not sure where to start, but here it goes. My wife and I recently bought a home, and one thing we know needed to go was the stained/​stinky carpet in the bedrooms. I crossed my fingers and ripped up a portion of the carpet and was blessed to see hardwood floors underneath! Being the DIY guy I thought I could research how to resurface and stain my floors. The more I researched, the more I knew I was in over my head. Then Unilocal came in and the search was on. I was drawn to the other reviews that had nothing but great things to say about Ruben so I gave him a call.
We set up an appointment where he came down and thoroughly explained everything step by step in a professional and friendly manner. He’s the owner/​salesman/​AND worker! He truly takes pride in his work. Ruben and his workers came on time everyday, worked their tail off, and did an amazing job. They really came out better than I thought they would. He also communicated as the process went on explaining what he was doing and what the next steps were. He asked me numerous times to look over his work just to get an extra pair of eyes to see if he missed anything…

Interior Flooring Solutions did a incredible job on my floors. My house was built in 1921 and has the original floors. I attempted to refinish the floor in the hallway, which was a huge mistake. It was different stain than the rest of the living areas. Ruben refinished my floors at an affordable price and in two days!!! I shopped around and his prices are the best in LA. He works quickly and is extremely professional. He even fixed my floor moulding and wood around my fireplace at no additional charge.

Ruben and I talked pricing and job specs on the phone. I wanted him to install solid walnut tongue-​and-​groove flooring that I would provide. I explained that the flooring was used. Many planks were split, cracked or marred. I had about 30% extra wood. Given the nature of the wood, Ruben agreed to a tentative price. Ruben’s installer, Marco, was awesome. He had to pick through pieces, cut, smooth, pound and use every trick to lay the used flooring. He created transitions by ripping, cutting and staining to match. He worked long and steady. The result is beautiful.
I had checked out other floorers. One floorer looked at the wood and wouldn’t touch the job. Only a very experienced floorer could have done it. Ruben had made suggestions about the installation that saved me money. Despite the difficulty of the installation, he stuck to his quoted price, and I was very, very pleased. If you have trouble getting your job scheduled, it’s because Ruben and his team are in demand.

I hired Interior Flooring Solutions for the installation of my carpet and refinishing of the hardwood floors in my kitchen. Ruben was really easy to work with and was on time on both of the days that he worked. He took his time and explained the process on the hardwood floors and even recommended a slightly darker stain which turned out great. Ruben and his crew just finished putting our new hardwood floors in today and words can’t describe how my wife and I feel. The house looks GREAT!!! Pair that with the new base boards he installed and you couldn’t tell the house was 70 years old. It feels and looks like a brand new house. Recently purchased a home and went to Unilocal for reviews on carpet installation. Everything I read about Ruben is true. He’s just a genuine good guy. He’s friendly, professional, on time, I can go on and on. He made such a great first impression that I didn’t even bother shopping around for other quotes. I liked the way he came across and also that it’s a local family operated company.

I called this company after reading some great reviews and realizing that it was based in Lynwood. Since my house is in South Gate (a.k.a. Lynwood-​adjacent), I wanted to try and find a local company to do my floor refinishing.
To begin with, Ruben and his company made a very good 1^st impression by arriving ON TIME for our scheduled meeting at my house. After working with a constantly late contractor a few years back for a kitchen and bath reno, I want to do my best to weed out other late workers. Good start Ruben!
Anyway, I showed Ruben my living room and told him there were original hardwood floors under the carpeting (my house was built in 1926). I explained that I didn’t know the condition of the floors throughout the space, but I had pulled up the carpet from the 4 corners and had seen floors in decent condition. He quoted me a price based on what he could see of the floors but said that the price might change if he discovered major damage in the center of room. He gave me a worst case scenario price which I still thought was reasonable so he wrote up the invoice and off we went.
A few days later, Ruben and his crew came back to start ripping out the carpeting. Sure enough, Ruben found major damage to about ¼ of the space after the carpeting was pulled up. I looked at the floors and agreed with Ruben’s judgment. However, since we’d already discussed a possible «worst case» price, there was no sticker shock. They immediately began replacing all the unusable planks of hardwood with same size red oak planks.
Long story short, 3 days later I had beautiful walnut tone hardwood floors where ugly carpeting had once existed. After the job was completed, the guys hauled away the old carpeting and all the other debris. They even helped move some of the bigger pieces of furniture back into the living room.

I am a real estate broker and I was working with a seller that inherited a house in Downey. it was a home built in the mid 50’s and actually had a nice open layout but had carpet that was about 2 years old. The carpet was in decent condition and the seller didnt want to spend any money on the home as all of her money was tied up in the inheritance of that property.
This was the home that the seller grew up in and she mentioned that it had the original hardwood floors throughout. Since the property wasn’t selling at the price she was holding out for, I suggested that we rip out the carpet and restore the flooring but with a modern marketable feel.
I called a few places on Unilocal and spoke to Ruben Camarillo. I gave him the square footage of the area needed to re-​surface and he was able to give me an accurate estimate over the phone. When we ripped up the flooring we found a few slats that were obviously damaged and needed to be replaced, but Ruben was excessive with his charge for replacing those.
It took his crew 3 days to rip out the carpet, sand, stain a few times (we went with a dark walnut color), and seal the flooring.

I even suggested raising the price of the home $ 10,000 when we re-​listed it. The feedback we got was tremendous and we ended up selling it for $ 14,000 above the appraised value with the buyer paying the difference.
Ruben was accurate with his quote, professional with adhering to his time frames, and meticulous with his service. I whole-​heartedly recommend using him.

Ruben didn’t mind doing a small job and he did it well and neatly. We had him replace the wood trim on a floor in one room. He moved the furniture and put it back exactly where is belonged. The next project we are planning is to refinish the floors and will call him for the job.

Installing hardwood flooring isn’t cheap but if it’s done well, it can transform your home. After Mr. Camarillo was finished with my house, I hardly recognized it! It was so beautiful– clean, modern and elegant. I could not have imagined how amazing it would look. His craftsmanship is impeccable.
Now the details…
What sets Mr. Camarillo apart from the other installers I received quotes from was the following: (1) his prices (2) his professionalism and (3) his communication skills. I’ve been slowly remodeling my home for 3 years and I would place communication and professionalism at the top of my ‘must have’ list. Price is important but that doesn’t matter if the contractor is unprofessional and treats you like an ATM.
First. He gave the best quote, hands down. He beat other installers by upwards of $ 800-​$ 1000. (I increased the sq footage at the last minute). Typically, I don’t go for the least expensive quote because you don’t know what you’ll get but I found Ruben through a glowing referral. Lucky me. (By the way, it’s still a lot of $$$ but I always felt it was fair).
Second. His work is thorough. He tells you what he wants to accomplish within the given day and, barring any unexpected issues (of which I had plenty), he meets them. Oh, and he answers the phone when you call– or will return your call within a couple hours. This is so simple yet so great! I can’t believe how many #$%&* contractors can’t return a simple phone call. Ugh.
But I digress.
Lastly, communication. Ruben explains what he’s doing! He is actually trying to educate you… just a little bit so you kind of understand what’s being done (and how you’re spending your money). Perhaps I’m the one who asked extra questions but he was always so friendly and accommodating– and I always felt like I knew what was going on. This is important to me.
Look, when I’m dropping several thousand dollars on a project– I want to be kept in the loop. Don’t you? Ruben is great about this… and very patient!
Oh, did I mention that my floors look freakin’ awesome? Anyone who has seen them absolutely loves it– the casing, the base moulding, the wood– it all looks amazing.
I can’t gush enough about Ruben. I’m not just writing this review about his work– I’m writing this review about him and how he conducts his business. He’s a wonderful, trustworthy person and an excellent businessman.
