S & S is usually pretty good in the dining room. The carry-out area is usually crowded and the food isn’t fresh. I have to wait about 30 minutes to get through the carry-out section. When I speak to management, they say that this isn’t true, so I attached a picture at 5 pm today. When I ask for beets or some other item, I am told they don’t have it. If the dining room is open and I step over there, I see it on the serving line.

It seems that when it comes to cafeterias, you either«get it,» or you don’t. On vacation Northwards from Florida, we stopped in Macon for the night, tired and hungry. Wow… What a blessing it was to find«S and S» by accident! Sadly, places like this don’t exist where I live. We used to have the«Driftwood» and«Morrison’s,» but they are long gone. It’s sort of sad the 30-and-younger FL crowd will never know what they missed out on! So for me, just entering the place was sort of a time-warp back to happy dining memories of my youth. Expect excellent Southern cooking, affordable prices, and generous portions. I had the fried fish, mac ‘n cheese, green beans, and garlic toast. For dessert? An apple dumpling to share. All were top-notch! So was their polished and friendly service! I chuckle when I see reviews about the salt and fat? You do realize these Southern recipes came from days when people got up before dawn, mostly did back-breaking, sweaty manual labor all day, right? The fare at S and S is meant as a TREAT, sort of like Sunday supper, not daily dining for our modern, mostly sedentary folk! And WOW, what a treat it is!(Even I know better than to eat like this every day, silly!) There are plenty of other choices out there for the culinary-Puritanical«food police.» I mourn the loss of this sort of dining place from where I live. A true glorious, gastronomical snapshot of decades past. I fell in love with S and S on my first visit! So if the word«quinoa» is part of your regular vocabulary, you should eat elsewhere. But for me? I will make sure my next road trip to points North will be passing by at least one S and S Cafeteria location! Many thanks! I WILL be back!

I miss the old cafeteria Styles like Morrisons, this is just as good as Morrisons maybe even a bit better on some of the desserts. Well worth the stop especially for a large group

Best food I’ve ever had in my whole life. I’m not joking. I’m from Tallahassee, and I contemplate driving here on the weekend.

S&S is a Macon institution. I have been eating here all my life. Now when I bring the boys back home for a visit, family takes us here to eat. And it makes sense because kids eat for $.99. Can’t beat that. Sadly the food is very mediocre. Most things just taste like salt and fat.

Great place for affordable southern style food. Grew up on this place and although I’m no longer a resident in Macon, I always try to stop by on my way through town. Love the chop steak, mac n cheese, turnip greens, and cracklin bread.

This was my second time here and I have to say I hope I’m never gong back. This place is my boyfriends favorite place to stop and eat at when we drive through Macon. The food is cafeteria style and the first time it was ok, this time the food was cold and lacked any flavor whatsoever ever. My boyfriend who loved this place was even disappointed.

I normally try to go to S & S every time I go to Macon. I went today and it usually good. The food today was bland, dry, and in general, disappointing. The service was nice, though.

The S & S Cafeteria is a Macon, Georgia staple. I have always enjoyed eating here when we go to Macon to visit with my Dad. I can remember eating at the S & S on Cherry Street with my Grandparrents. They have a wide a variety of meats, vegatables, deserts and breads.

This is a cafeteria. I thought I was done with those after grade school. The food is dry and bland. Old folks seem to love it, though. Maybe in about 50 years, I’ll give it another try.

kept driving by this place… couldn’t help but notice that they always had a crowd… and on sunday it was jam packed. i think this cafeteria style thing is a super southern thing, which i find amusing, but woooo wee, the food was good. it is super dated on the inside, you sorta feel like you’re in a time warp, but pay no mind. unfortunately, i had a regular behind me who was pushing me waaaay too fast through the line(they have so many options) but everything looked good and my selections, as well as my friend’s were great. i’m actually wishing i had picked up a couple of extra portions of the squash casserole to go. it was super savory and delish. my lemon meringue pie was sub par, but they have enough dessert options to keep me hooked. if you are in the mood for some cheap southern treats and wonderful iced tea… s&s is your place.

S&S was always my family’s Sunday after church lunch spot growing up! I had not been back in a while, but was pleasantly surprised that not much has changed. They still have a great selection of meats and veggies, plus a million deserts. I like my fried chicken crispy and here they always deliver! You can dine-in, or carry out. The service is still wonderful and your glass will never be empty! The locations are convenient and the old country style is very welcoming. I am so happy to have rediscovered this gem!
