I love their French Toast bagel. This place is very good, especially for a bagel place outside of a city. The service is pretty good, coffee is ok.

Best bagels this side of New York! We love the cheddar, French Toast, and bacon/cheddar/hot pepper ones the best. Their cream cheese floors are all amazing too. They have lunch too! Great sandwich creations and soup! The normal gal behind the counter is so nice and even recognized my voice when I call to order now. I feel bad that I don’t recall her name right now. My only Disappointment is the extra charges for slicing bagels and costly pastries.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I’m a bit of a bagel snob. I grew up in the Tri-State area and I’ve lived in New York City. I hold my bagels and breakfast sandwiches to the highest of standards. But if you find yourself a little distance from the city and you’re near Madison, CT, I HIGHLY recommend getting yourself to Cohen’s. From what I gather, Cohen’s used to be a chain(there was also one in Branford, CT… but I’d be surprised to learn if they went out of business seeing as they’re so delish). Nowadays, the only one I’m familiar with is in Madison. However, this little bagel shop can hold its own against the stiff soup/salad/sandwich competition along the shoreline. Cohen’s is a well kept local secret. It’s located in a small plaza on the side of Boston Post Rd and if you’re driving pretty fast(let’s face it most of us do), you may miss it. After you turn around in the nearest parking lot and finally arrive at Cohen’s, you’ll be greeted with the warmest, coziest, breadiest smell your nostrils ever did experience. Seriously, Cohen’s could sell me on the way it smells alone. While the ambience isn’t necessarily 5-star, it doesn’t matter because it’s a bagel place and most people take their bagels to go. Plus, this place is kid-friendly and anyone who’s ever been in contact with a human under the age of 7 knows these creatures can be a bit messy. So why get frilly and make this place posh? Cohen’s sticks to what they know best: bagels. So back to the bagels. I’ve tried a variety of sandwiches here… two I highly recommend are the lox sandwich( Unilocaler rule #481: any self-respecting bagel establishment HAS to serve a good lox sandwich) and the turkey, lettuce, mayo, tomato combo on an assiago bagel. YUMMERS. Both are classic sandwiches but the ingredients are so fresh and bursting with flavors I swear it’ll be like nothing you’ve ever tasted before. The bagels themselves are so warm and soft; they pull apart with the gentlest of touch and they steam in the most satisfying of ways. I’m hungry just writing about this. Cohen’s coffee is also pretty good… you can never go wrong pairing a cup of java with your bagel. So next time you’re in the area and hankering for a flavorful sandwich, pop into Cohen’s. You won’t be disappointed.

Finally checked out the Madison Flagship location and OMG! If you are going to eat a bagel, and live within 25 miles of this place, come here. Real bagels just like Bubbe used to bring me from Queens. Chewy, boiled, and in a fun variety of shapes and sizes only handmade can achieve. Carbs are so good! Had a western breakfast sandwich, $ 4, loaded with ham egg and cheese, and, if I lived in this town I’d eat this daily. Daily special bagels rotate and today was BACONCHEESE Jalepeno!!! Ahhhhhhh!

Yum. Went to NYC to get some real city bagels and couldn’t find one to match the chewy freshness of Cohen’s. Great bagel doesn’t need cream cheese or the white fish. Great bagel wants to eaten ripped open to release that doughy breath. Outside is golden chewy goodness. Cohen’s Swiss cheese bagel is our favorite. This one can really fly solo even on day 2. If the ones at the self service baskets are not warm anymore — ask if there are more everything bagel in the back and hand the friendly staff person a brown bag. Might be lucky enough to get a whole bakers’ dozen straight off the cooling rack to take home.

Best bagel shop on the shoreline. I can’t get enough of there bagels. The french toast bagel has some intense flavor that is so enjoyable. All bagels are unique and abundant. I never had one problem when I came here and always really enjoyed a. Soft fresh made bagel. I enjoy the lox bagel in a French toast bagel.

4 stars awarded for a decent bagel this far from NYC. Coffee and fresh selection of bagels and sandwiches. Pleasant seating area and close to Hammonassett Beach to take it on the run weather permitting. Very busy, but line moves fast and staff knows what they’re doing.

I was actually completely SHOCKED by the substance of rubbery chicken-like product that I was served disguised as a «grilled chicken breast». I was clearly some sort of composite chicken and was stark white/grey in color. I’ve had their bagels before and they were good so I was HORRIBLY disappointed. If I had chosen to eat in vs take out I would have definitely sent it back. Do yourself a favor… stick to bagels ONLY there.

The set up is weird! There is one line, which can get super backed up on a weekend morning. Some people are ordering sandwiches, others a waiting to get bagels to carry out. People can get a little pushy. For that reason, I’ll give it 4 stars. The bagels themselves are very good. And the sandwiches are also very good, they are packaged in a styrofoam container with a pickle and bagel chips. Quite perfect for a picnic across the street at Hamo!

They have the best bagels and sandwiches and everything. The only thing I don’t love about this place is the seating area is not great, but who cares. Every time I leave New England I buy a baker’s dozen of Cohen’s to show people what a real bagel tastes like. I highly recommend the blueberry bagel, any of the cheese bagels, and(if you have a sweet tooth) the sweet bagels are fantastic.

So good. Got the lox sandwich, weighed like a pound, perfect amount of ingredients. The everything bagel wasn’t overly salty like some places make them. Sandwich came with the yummiest pickle and assorted bagel chips. They have these cheesy ones that are amazing. Improvements could be made with the coffee.

Awesome bagels and service! The best bagel on the Connecticut shoreline and beyond. I’ve heard people drive from Stamford and West Hartford to get Cohen’s bagels.

Closest. 2 a NYBAGEL! If you want a dozen or 2 go early. They usually have a few left 4’U 2 purchase 2: take home & for breakfast & eat there or on the go. To make an egg sandwich or deli sandwiches. Even @‘cloning time have a few left but usually the undesirable ot just plain. BUT. If you go in and ask or call they will make whatever you want like we always order a dozen pumpernickel bagels they seem to sell quickly and once they’re gone they don’t usually make them again. so they’ll make them hold them you never have to leave a deposit or pay ahead and then go pick up. If there’s an issue and you can get there they will just add them to the ones made for sale. they have to cheese bagels that are delicious they’re like plain bagels but one has Swiss cheese the other has Cheddar. Basically a plain bagel that they put slices of cheese on top of & put into the oven 2 melt. REHEAT… If you got a test today you can throw it in microwave /toaster oven. They do not need any butter or cream cheese. they are being gross freeze & defrost wonderfully .

Cohen’s has the best bagel I’ve eaten in over a decade on the Connecticut shore. We stopped in for a late Monday breakfast, around noon, and there were still many bagels. I got egg and bacon on an onion bagel. It was prepared in less than ten minutes and the flavors really came together on a toasty, slightly chewy bagel. These bagels are made with good water!

Tasty bagels! So good that I’m not docking them points for being a bit pricey(well, it’s Madison), a little sassy and/or the counters & tables aren’t maintained(can be a little crummy). It’s so good you don’t care about any faults & their cheese bagel selection is great! French toast bagel rules! Sundried tomato with onion & chive spread… Heaven!

Unfortunately living near the shoreline moving from a town close to NYC I have been missing bagels tremendously, as they were a staple of my every morning. I found this place on Unilocal and decided to drive down there one Saturday morning. They are getting 3 stars solely on the availability of salt bagels, my absolute favorite and not a common bagel. However, the owner/manager was incredibly surly and we stood at the counter for a good 2 minutes after we were next in line as he walked away to talk to his coworkers. When he finally came back his demeanor was terrible. I get it, it’s early. But in actuality this will keep me from coming back, even in a pinch. Bagels were so-so, not the best but I would come back if the craving struck if not for the owner.
