We went there just last weekend, and they are in the process of turning over new ownership. The food was excellent! The owner was way cool! So, we definitely plan on going again. Only problem is the restaurant is only on the way to the beach. so, when we surf up by that way, will be the only chance we get to eat there. I can’t wait for them to open up the roof top bar/dining area.

For some reason, Beaurivage reminds me of the old classic film Sunset Blvd. «You’re Norma Desmond. You used to be in silent pictures. You used to be big.» «I am big. It’s the pictures that got small.» Maybe it’s because the setting is beautiful but noticeably dated. Or maybe it’s because the clientele are obviously well healed but primarily past their expiration date. It could even be the traditional French plates that are classic but without a hint of ingenuity or whimsy. Whatever it is, it still feels like Old Hollywood in the time of the Kardashians. The rooms are pretty enough, though if you look too closely you can see the cracks under the caked on makeup. Still, even in the afternoon it has great bones and by night the shadows cover up the wrinkles. There’s a lovely bar area, nice fireplace and a beautiful view of the Pacific. I could happily grow old sitting there drinking some wine and watching the sun go down every night if I lived in the area. There’s old jazz and standards music and pretty singers(voices not faces), and maybe I’m getting close to their target clientele myself, but no matter what the unimpressed twenty something’s say, it is romantic. There are aging hairless rock stars and embalmed wild wigged Mae Wests, one of whom winked and undressed me with her cataracts as we left. I wasn’t sure if it was funny or disconcerting, but now I know where to go to find a sugar mama should the need ever arise. The food was solid if somewhat uninspiring. An excellent French Onion Soup was the highlight, followed by a nice appetizer of escargot. Smoked salmon on a bagel was simple but fresh. Clams though we’re a disappointment. Seriously the smallest clams I’ve ever seen served, like the kitchen had kidnapped an entire preschool of baby clams. Service was painfully slow, and somewhat disinterested. Prices are fairly high especially on the entrees. Though you could eat more clever food elsewhere for equal or less money, where else could you get hit on by an old dead movie star? Best Plates: French Onion Soup, Escargot, Smoked Salmon on Bagel Palate: mainstream Food — B+ Ambience — A– Service — B– Value — C+

What a great little french resturant in Malibu. Reminds me of Europe. We had the steak one time and it was great. The pastries are very authentic french tasting.

We celebrated our anniversary/Valentine’s day here. David Minkin had a magic show here and we booked the show and along with it included 2 white and 2 red wine tasting and different appetizers. First starts out with getting some appetizers and wine tasting. They were really good. We liked the first white wine which is a dryer version of Moscat. However we prefer the sweeter ones. Nice blend of Merlot, not so dry which is tolerable to my bf who is not a red wine person. The Magic show was held in the wine cellar. Because of the dim lights it created a perfect ambiance for magic to happen. All the audiences were astonished with David Minkin’s mind-blowing talents! There is a brief intermission and you may go up to the dinning tables and ask for more wine and eat more food as well. We were very happy with their service as well! The place is right in front of the beach as well, such a romantic restaurant to see sunset with your loved ones while eating delicious food. I definitely recommend this place to others who would also want to have their wedding venue set up here as well. Yes they do wedding venues!!!

Was looking for a nice romantic dinner for my anniversary, and was very disappointed with my selection of restaurants! Ambience was nice & the service was good, but the food had no flavor whatsoever! Escargot was a waste of money. I’ve had better lobster bisque from a can of Campbell’s soup. And the white sea bass? … I swear it was another piece of fish I was served. I’ve never tasted(nor seen) sea bass like that in my life! For over $ 200 for a dinner for two, I will not go back. One more thing, with such an extensive wine list, we ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc, and they had none! Not one bottle in the house?

Romantic, lovely place for older clientele Not for the hip, the cool, or the young! When I went 20 years ago, I was young(& hip & cool, I think)…and I had an amazing time. Recently, I found it to age with time along with the clientele. Not that there is anything wrong with that! Just know going in! It has a lovely setting. A fountain, lush green plants, and lots of glass windows. It is on the hill side, so there is just a little glimpse of the ocean. At night, it’s dark inside with lots of little lights. Therefore, let the romance begin! They have an extensive wine menu, and tons of seafood, pasta, and steak dishes. Desserts are good, too. I don’t think you can go wrong here.

This place is NOT romantic!!! Don’t be fooled! I read the reviews and chose to go here for my birthday dinner last week(only a few months late!). It was 8pm but the crowd was… well, OLDER. By about 30 years. They first sat us near the fountain, which is outside(they have a covered roof though). It was FREEZING! So they moved us inside near the piano player and fire. The piano player was fine until a «singer» joined him. My ear bled. Seriously, bleeding. Our waiter was non-existent. After getting my cocktail, I was ready for wine, but he didn’t come back until he was serving our dinner, and as soon as he dropped the plates he ran for it. The food? Yikes. I had the worst lamb in the world and the boy had the worst steak in the world. Since neither of us ate much of our meals, we decided to get dessert. HUGE mistake. I’m not sure how, but the lemon meringue tasted just like wet dog. I’m not kidding. Order it and tell me it’s not wet dog. I’m sad. I wanted more and got so so SO much less(at a huge price). Skip it. Maybe in the past Beau Rivage was a romantic place with wonderful food, but no more.

It’s hard for me to give Beau Rivage less than a five star review. We’ve been coming for 17 years, were married there 16 years ago, and return at least once a year to rekindle our fondest memories. In all that time, Beau Rivage has served consistently excellent meals, and the wine choices have always been voluminous. And the desserts — OHMY — made fresh onsite. The service has had its ups and downs, as has the condition of the dining room and garden, but overall the experience has always been positive. Daniel & Luciana Forge are a lovely couple, though I don’t believe they are the owners anymore… but it’s great to see them there year after year as it’s part of Beau Rivage’s all-around charm. And the location — gorgeous. It’s an Old World villa dropped in Malibu, complete with wine cellar. We love it.

They have a very old world European setting with views of the ocean and romantic fireplace tables. My advice though is get a good waiter. How can you do this? Go early for your reservation, have a drink at the bar and ask the locals or the bartender which waiter is good then request that waiter with the maitre’d. Then when you talk to your waiter ASK what is good on the menu. =]

Good food. Great location. It is a shame that they don’t use the outdoor seating often. We were the only group outside eating, the tables cloths were put out just for us and they were dirty. I would return, decent value for Malibu.

4 Stars It’s been a ling time since my last visit here. I was meeting a friend for whom this place holds a lot of great memories. It was Saturday brunch and we were the first to arrive. We browsed the brunch menu and there were several delicious options. The meal started with a freshly baked strawberry croissant. We ordered steamed clams to start, then for entrees we ordered the Scallop, Shrimp and Mushroom Gratin and my friend ordered the Eggs Beaurivage. The meal was delicious. Everything was fresh and perfectly cooked, the scallops in my gratin were so tender and fresh. Unfortunately while we were there very few customers came in. As we chatted with the owner, we found out that the business just wasn’t doing very well. I recommend everyone try this place if you haven’t or go back if it’s been awhile. With summer around the corner this is a great option on the coast.

A classic, beautiful place ran by a lovely couple. It’s nice to sit near the fireplace, while the ocean is right in front of you. They also have a patio, and serves brunch. Private lot. Been here several times, and have always had an enjoyable, spot on, meal. If your ever passing thru Malibu, I would highly recommend a stop in.

You’ll find Beau Rivage off the Pacific Coast Highway and it’s totally unexpected — or at least I didn’t expect it. Just one look at the little bistro tables and real linen table cloths and you know this place will have a 4-star wine list. Eating at Beaurivage is like eating in Provence. The food is fresh and enhanced with fresh herbs and olives. This is because the owners are the real deal. Owner Daniel Forge is from France and wife Luciana is from Italy and was a professional opera singer from Rome. And there is no mistaking that they know food and have brought back some of the good stuff from the Riviera. Beaurivage does have a Sunday brunch where they have a classical guitarist, but because I was having lunch at 3 p.m. I didn’t get to see that. Still, my late lunch was incredible. Even though I was not dressed for eating in a fancy restaurant and had absolutely no make up on(I did just come off the beach), Daniel was a gracious host and treated me like I was a millionaire. He recommended a pan-seared sea bass with a light sauce — which was incredible. It melted in my mouth and was the perfect way to end my Malibu beach trip. Sadly, I didn’t get any wine as I still had a 5 hour drive ahead of me. But next time, I’m going here first and will just watch the waves from their big bay windows.

Been going there for years! Nothing changes. It’s a mediterrranean villa where time stands still. The food! Everything is excellent. I would always try the chef’s special. The rissoto and lobster dishes are always guaranteed excellent. I go there for dinner but love the brunch with their deck seating looking over the Pacific Ocean. You might get lucky one day and see celebs who, in addition to the local Malibu residents drop in for a great dinner.

Absolutely favorite place for French Mediterranean. The atmosphere is great. Looks like a cute castle outside! And live piano music. Service is very good and staff is attentive. The dips are soooo good. Liver and olives. Yummy. Anything on the menu is very good. Risotto, ravioli, pasta, seafood, chicken, even thanksgiving dinner! My favorites are ravioli, and lobster dishes.

The place has a charm reminiscent of old European setting, Our table is probably one of the best tables in the restaurant, with a view of the pacific ocean, on an early evening dinner-almost before the sunset, it is a very romantic place. We started with appetizers, I ordered the Escargots à la Bourguignonne, my friend ordered the Prosciutto. The Escargot was very nice, the Prosciutto was good but we’ve had better. The Fillet Mignon was excellent, perfectly cooked and seasoned just right. The lamb — not so memorable — we’ve had better luck at papa cristo’s. To summarize, a very nice place on a date night if you want to splurge a bit, the ambiance is very romantic. The place doesn’t seem to get overly crowded which is also nice. The servers are very cordial, lovely personality. The food is good but not spectacular, would probably eat again but definitely not a first consideration for another date night.

I didn’t enjoy my food here nor did I enjoy the scenery. I came here for a bridal shower, and we rented the room upstairs. It was really disapointing after reading the glowing reviews on Unilocal. The food was unmemorable which means it was neither delicious nor horrendous. The interior décor was outdated and tacky in the sunlight. I’m sure this place is charming and romantic in the cloak of night, but it’s pretty much an eyesore during the day.

I came here for brunch with a friend before heading to the Getty Villa. Elizabeth was our waitress, and both of us really liked her! Ireally like this place. It’s just a very quaint and old fashioned looking restaurant. There’s a main dining room inside that is very elegant. There’s also a nice little area outside with a running water rock type structure with plants. You also can’t beat the ability to see the Pacific Ocean while eating =). The complimentary croissants were absolutely amazing. They were very crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. There was a type of light jam filling, but i don’t know what type of fruit it was. We ordered the Eggs Beaurivage and Eggs benedict. Both were served with potatoes and a vegetable medley. My eggs beaurivage was absolutely amazing. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and they use eggs with lots of yolk. The sauce is very interesting, i didn’t read the description of it, but it was very tangy and tasty. The eggs benedict was also delicious, particularly because the hollandaise sauce was much lighter than it is in most places.

Very romantic location. We sat next to some running water, which was very peaceful. Sadly, we were pretty much the only people in the place. The food was decent, but slightly short of expectations & the service was the same. Our waitress was super nice, just not very on top of things. Highlights, the pâté and olive spreads. The prosciutto, phenomenal. The owner came by to ensure that we enjoyed that dish, so it must be one he’s proud of. The lamb was just okay as was the escargot. Neither was bad, but neither were all that good. Would I come back? Not sure.

Marrow! OMG, I bloody love marrow. I pushed out that bit of stuff and pondered if I should hoist that hunk of bone to sip the sweet juices. Oh wait, I’m surrounded by thousands(okay, nearly 160 wedding guests), I guess I should just eat the bit of marrow that I managed to eke out. Oh, and the osso buco was pretty damn good too. Tender and just the right amount of fattiness. But it was incredibly rich so there was no way I could finish it. The carrots were pretty tasty too. And I hate damn carrots. To make me want more carrots is such a feat. That deserves a star alone. The site itself for a wedding is pretty cool though service was very placid. After the bartender warmed up to me, he made pretty stiff drinks that I heartily approved of. Totally worth the $ 5000 bar bill. Overall, it’s a lovely place to have a wedding… if you have less guests than the bridal couple had. Everyone had to squeeze in and there were definitely not enough chairs for everyone. I would say if you had about 100 guests, this would be a great choice. I do have to note it was recently sold so even though the old owners have promised to stay on to manage, from reading the other reviews, it sounds like the place is already changing.
