We moved to Mamaroneck from Williamsburg Brooklyn with average expectations for dining in the area. Restaurant after restaurant we were left satiated but unimpressed. One evening we popped into Massa, conveniently across the street from us. The staff is well versed in the menu, knowledgable, professional and warm. The food… it blew us away. Clearly prepared thoughtfully and with love, the proportions are healthy without being overwhelming. The chef specials are creative and complex, leaving you wanting to try everything on the menu. Dishes that stand out: Polpo Alla Griglia(grilled wild octopus), every pasta(homemade in house), and the lovely Pesce e Crostacei which allows you to customize the preparation and sauce of your choice of fish. The dishes are gorgeous, the lighting romantic, and the music is hip and lounge appropriate. Try the specials as they always knock it out of the park. We have since become regulars here! The owner Francesco greets guests personally and is truly a wonderful host. Definitely a must for fine dining in Westchester county, perhaps the best italian around!

Good food. We came from NJ for a family function and found this place online and the reviews lived up to its reputation. Great food. I ordered the Penne Pasta with Crab and it was delicious.

Caters to snobs who will gladly shell out money to feel«in». Lucky for them there are plenty around! Their food is fine, but funny how they plate mundane dishes(like grilled shrimp) as if they were serving the sea’s royal catch. It was a Sat night and the hostess was all«oh you don’t have a reservation [what peasants!!]… I guess we can try to find you a seat». I was seated in less than 5 minutes, again hilarious. Also our wine didn’t come until we were basically done with the meal(I kept asking for it when they dropped off the appetizers and main). Service is as expected from a place like this, servers run around avoiding eye contact… why would you dare inconvenience your server by stopping him/her?! He will come to you, if and when he feels like it(duh.) This concept is dying in Manhattan because people can see through the bullshit. Yes pay an arm and a leg at Le Bernardin but for semi fresh oysters and pretty good catch of the day slash the margins and tone down the conceited attitude? Oh well as long as people keep going back, the owners(or partners) will be brilliant, rich, and not hurting anyone anyways.

First of all, the physical space is lovely. The décor and the exposed brick coupled with the soft lighting makes this a wonderful setting for an intimate dinner. We were actually there as a group though, including children. The waitstaff was attentive and professional. The bar area is a perfect area for drinks while waiting for a table but also ample enough that one can enjoy a meal with a friend if he or she wanted to. I enjoyed everything I ate but I must especially commend the octopus. I love octopus and I really appreciate when it is properly cooked, which should be par for the course at any restaurant that would serve grilled octopus, but you’d be surprised how many places get it wrong and you end up with a chewy garlicky mess. Not here! Not only is it cooked to perfection, but also it’s playfully served with beans and onions that complement the flavor quite well. I’d go back any time and just sit at the bar with a glass of Sauvignon blanc plus that glorious octopus. I also had penne vodka. Absolutely delicious. At the table we shared a lovely arugula salad. The panna cotta is a must especially if you’re on a date. Flames at the table are always a fun touch. It was my first time there but I definitely want to return because I love seafood and everything on the menu looks fantastic.

The service couldn’t have been better, but that’s what happens when it’s a private party and the host is a regular. The food was ordered in advance so we didn’t have a chance to try other items and a quick peek at the menu seemed to indicate prices on the higher end of the spectrum. All in all a decent experience.

This is one of my favorite restaurants(I was about to say«in Westchester», but then realized that qualifier was completely unnecessary). This is one of my favorite restaurants, period. The food is consistently excellent, as is the service. As someone who lives in NYC, regularly dines out, and considers himself a «foodie», I can be a bit snobbish about restaurants outside of Manhattan, yet Massa’ makes me feel right at home. From the freshest seafood to the beautifully prepared pasta, or the flavorful chicken and beef dishes, I have yet to eat a meal there I have not loved. ONTOPOFTHAT… when I was on a specialized diet, the chef/owner, Francesco Coli, went out of his way to ensure I would still be able to enjoy a wonderful meal while remaining within my dietary restrictions. It’s obvious he’s passionate both about food and his customers. LOVE this place!

The only word I can use to describe our experience was«uneven». We went on a Sunday night. There was no one there, and by the time we left, there was only one other couple. We started with the clams and mussel appetizer. It was good, but a shockingly small portion for the $ 15 that they charge. We weren’t expecting a giant pot of mussels like you get at Italian or French place, but to get a small bowl with 4 tiny clams, and 4 mussels that weren’t even PEI mussels was very disappointing. The bread on the table used to mop up the sauce, was a dry foccacia, that seemed a little stale. In all fairness, the waiter said it was fresh and made in the morning, but it just seemed like it was a day old. For dinner, I had the striped bass, grilled simply, with capers, lemon and olive oil, served over spinach. The fish was cooked beautifully, and was so fresh, but honestly could have used some seasoning with a little salt and pepper. It was worth the $ 34, but I do think it should have been served with some type of starch… I could have ordered basmati rice as an extra, but it just didn’t sound very exciting to me, and wasn’t worth the added cost of $ 7. My husband had the lobster spaghetti fra diavlo. It was good. The sauce was amazing, but it was just TOO saucy. In Italy, when pasta is dressed, especially with fish, it is dressed lightly, so as not to overwhelm the dish. This really took away from the flavor of the lobster, which should have been the star on the plate. Drinks were generous, which was a plus. Overall, I don’t think we’d return. I don’t mind spending more for a good meal, but we honestly left feeling like we were charged Manhattan prices in a restaurant that has a long way to go to get to Manhattan quality. I had such high hopes for this place, because we’re always on the hunt for a great fish place in Westchester, but I guess we’ll have to continue to search.

I cannot even describe the amazing experience my boyfriend and I had at this restaurant. If you want a true dining experience without an uptight, cold atmosphere, Massa’ is the place to go! This restaurant runs a seamless operation — Vinny being the manager, and our server, couldn’t have been better! He was polite, accommodating and basically recommended everything we ate — and we couldn’t have been happier with his recommendations. We started with a few appetizers. the fish was SO fresh, and the burrata is to die for! For dinner we had the big eye tuna and the branzino… both were out of this world(and Vinny’s recommendations) Of course we ordered dessert — Cannoli Chips & Zeppole’s…the two of us wanted to lick our plates by the end of the night! You will not leave this restaurant hungry, that’s for sure! This restaurant will not disappoint and we cannot wait to go back!!!

Massa’s fish was so wonderful last night: whole branzino expertly flavored, with provincial sauce, carpaccio of wild salmon, shrimp and swordfish belly skewered over great Gnocchi. Even the new focacchia was special. And the owner picked out a fine 2009 Montepulchiano which went with the meal. I feel so fortunate that this NYC quality restaurant is in our neighborhood

We really enjoyed our dinner at Massa. The specials were great and they even customized a few orders and drinks for us. The executive chef was very attentive.

We’ve dined at Massa before and it was never exceptional but, it was good enough to go back. «A restaurant is only as good as your last meal» This will be our last meal at Massa Our meal took WAY too long to come out. A runner noticed and came to acknowledge our empty table our waiter barely payed attention to us. We waited 3x as long as other tables around us. some items are unbelievably over priced(some reasonable) and nothing stands out as delicious

Overpriced food The same that I cook at home, the restaurant is filthy, poor service, waiters take for ever to take orders and another two hours to take dessert order, I won’t come back again

Don’t miss this restaurant! The food spoke louder than the service as there was only one waiter working the entire restaurant the night we dined there. And given the white tablecloth I was expecting our table have the crumbs removed before presenting the dessert menu. Overall I would like to give it a 2nd try and I encourage everyone to try it at least once.

Massa is a MUST try for anyone looking for amazing Italian food. Massa has a well deserved reputation for high quality food and service and they absolutely lived up to their reputation. The service was impeccable and the staff catered to our every need. The menu was spectacular and the cocktails were creative. The blueberry infused vodka was smooth and packed a punch. For appetizers, the grilled octopus marinated with onions and capers was tender and cooked to perfection. The tuna sashimi was fresh and the portion was plentiful. The oysters with red herb vinaigrette were mouth-watering and the Burrata was an outrageous creamy surprise. The artichoke hearts could have easily been an entrée the way it is served(garlic and bread crumbs). For dinner, the lighter(and healthier) side — the branzino with julienne vegetables and salmon were extraordinary and full of flavor. On the heavier side — the veal chop was pounded thin with fresh parm and mozz…(insane and stole the show). For dessert, I recommend a few things to share. The cannolis and profiteroles were a great, but the zeppole takes the ‘cake’, served hot with powdered sugar and nutella. Overall, Massa delivered with great ambiance, staff, food and drink. The dining experience exceeded expectations and managed to bring coastal Italy to Westchester.

For all of the Catholics out there, you’ll love this Italian seafood spot for Lenten Fridays. This place is exceptional. The tuna crudo is a must try, and the branzino was delicious. Don’t forget the zepole for desert. The service was top notch as well. We will be back!

Plenty of lavish reviews here. This is great Italian cuisine. I’m poor, but I’m a foodie. If this place had a lunch that was 10% larger portioned, and 10% less expensive, my wife and I would eat here for lunch at least once a week. One thing you can’t argue with though is they have great service and everything they make is fantastic. It’s a shame they took the burrata off the pre-fix lunch menu, and now the only seafood option is salmon.(not that I’m complaining about the veal or chicken dishes on the pre-fix. wow) Their food is so good, they can probably afford to charge more and have fewer customers piling in there, but it’s a shame, because now I can’t eat Italian anywhere else in larchmont/mamaroneck.

Ok, I see why this place gets high marks. The food is delicious and the space is elegant and modern. I had the burrata appetizer and linguini with clams, while my friend had the chicken dish. We both decided our meals were tasty and fresh. Definitely no major complaints, except maybe the service was a tad slow and we had to gently remind staff when we were ready to order, ready for dessert or pick up the check, etc. The place definitely goes at an unhurried pace, or maybe it was the Monday night doldrums. Either way, it was a fine experience.

My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with two of the owners. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff goes out of their way to make sure you have the best experience possible. The food was delicious. We enjoyed the eggplant, prawns, baked clams, artichokes, and veal. Everything was cooked perfectly and the chef paired our lunch with a perfectly crisp bottle of white wine. If you come, make sure you try the zeppoles with nutella for dessert! A great experience!
