I hate to say this, but the good people here make the worst Japaneses-American food. Raw vegetables and cilantro in ramen? Luke warm soup base? Spoiled runny eggs? Overly salted miso soup? Stick seaweed wrap? You may be trying to be creative, but first of all you need to guarantee the quality.

This place definitely deserves more stars. Their staff is very friendly and helpful. The Mazeman Ramen is must try! And the rolls are very fresh and tasty! Yum!

Went here with my boyfriend and his dad. I got the crackle which I thought would be like a crunchy roll… I was wrong. It had bright green rice cracker on the outside and basil on the inside with shrimp and crab. Atlesst the crab was real but other than that it was not good. The only thing our group had that was descent was the curry with ramen noodles. Which we only found after seeing someone else eat it, even though we asked about noodles and the waiter said they didn’t have any. Still hungry and disappointed. The service is good but they are just trying too hard to make up for its lack of substance.

Great environment, everyone that was working was very friendly. The wait wasn’t too long and the service was prompt. I will definitely return next trip up here

Back at our favorite restaurant and very happy to be with leo our favorite server! Enjoyed some lovely specialty rolls and fresh nigiri. Everything tasted great as always! Haley was very helpful towards us too and kind! She had great recommendations on fun activities for our family. The staff here has really made our vacation special! Cant wait to be back:)

Came here with my son. Had a draconian experience. Don’t ever talk to me or my son again.

I experienced some very innovative sushi here… I had no idea you could get a medium grain, non-sushi rice to stick together on a roll. Also, the sushi chef accomplished the structural feat without using rice vinegar(if rice vinegar was used, I couldn’t taste it). They should have named the roll Uncle Ben’s spicy tuna. The service was good, the environment was adequate. If I went again, I’d stick to light beer and go somewhere else for food. P.S. For those taking note of the fact that my review was posted outside of Sushi Rei’s operating hours; I dined the night before and slept on it before I wrote my review.

Best. Meal. Ever. The sushi chefs are not only friendly, but incredibly talented. The artwork they could create from wasabi alone left my mouth watering. I will come back, and continue to come for as long as I can.

Foods pretty good but the service is the worst I have ever seen. I might not ever go again because of the service.

I went in and asked John Dissel the sushi check to make up something for me and my friend. HOLYAMAZEBALLS !!! His homemade sauces are EPIC !!! one of the best sushi experiences I have had! I’m kind of a sushi snob too. Props to the staff Alex, & Tatiana to for their friendly and amazing customer service. Looking forward to coming here every time I visit Mammoth to snowboard. AYCE Wednesday is $ 30 but it doesn’t include ANY sushi. Its a few apps(edamame, miso soup, shitty salad, potstickers/gyoza they name dumplings, etc), about 6 or 7 rolls(calif, spicy calif, salmon, spicy tuna, etc), chicken and another salad. Any sushi/sashimi is extra and reg price, not included. There are rules: only 2 items can be ordered at a time, and you cant order more until you get served those items. My Asian buddy laughed at the so-called AYCE menu, as did I, because every single spot in LA/OC has a bigger and better menu, for $ 5 – 8 less. Lastly, we both got the shits within 90 minutes after dinner. #fucked

Sub par service. Server rolled his eyes when we asked for more ginger. Very slow. Food tasted fairly good, but very small portions. Skip this one.

I so enjoyed my night. I was surprised how great sushi was despite how far we are from port. Learned they ship fresh from southern cal several times and week. They keep it cold and fresh for us. So the food was great, but frankly the service was the best. We had a bar tender slash waiter helping us. We sat in front of the many jars of sake. We tried a few & prefer good old fashion warm sake. Either way he was wonderful and overly helpful. Saturday– you need a reservation or you’ll sit at bar.

Love this place. First off let me say this… SITATTHEBAR with chef DEESEL. He took such great care of us and our après ride appetites. Deesel started us off with his spicy tuna atop of crunchy rice. Super tasty. But, where he really shone was with a sashimi assortment of his choice. All so fresh and beautifully plated in a big bowl with flowers and all. The quality of fish and the specialty drinks were next level as well. Thanks to master chef Deesel, we will be back next trip up.

Came here for HHr. My tummy & I were very happy. It was very tasty & fresh. Had a couple of the hand rolls, yummy, with not too much rice. The spicy Ahi Tostadas really generous portions. Service was friendly & they are on top of it. Will be back soon.

Went here with friends for dinner Saturday night. We did not have a reservation and were seated within 20 mins. I left my phone number and was called when the table was ready. Service was good. We had to ask a couple of time for water, wasabi, and our beer. The food was delicious! Everything we orders was tasty. Our appetizers came out very quickly. I would definitely eat here again.

Sushi Rei is probably the most lax sushi bar I’ve ever been to in my life. Keep in mind, I’m Asian. Sushi chefs, waiters, and pretty much everyone was wearing hats and beanies. Felt like a college town sushi restaurant. Everyone and our waiter was super chill, we found some hair in one of our two small house sake bottles, so he took it one back and brought us a large one! I like the décor but the fish is a pretty average. Feel like this place is more bar than sushi. I’ll probably be back, but order more drinks than food next time.

Mid to upscale fare. Excellent food and excellent décor and seating. They can handle bigger groups of 8 – 10 and have some round booths as well. I saw a lot of classy people here with a lot of plastic surgery and fancy jewelry. The prices are a little steep at almost 50 $ per person including sake but I think mammoth is a pricey place in general. The service was ok but a tad on the slow aloof side. Certainly not up to the price’s standards I think.
