Great ice cream! Been going here for years. Seasonal pumpkin is amazing. Always crowded.

The razzle dazzle is magical !! I love the dark chocolate truffles with raspberry filling for an added treat throughout the ice cream! It’s like the dark chocolate and raspberry Gods came down from heaven and gave me a big hug! I’ve been adding the chocolate crunchies for added hugs, yummy! which was a server recommendation! Good service always and good portion size(most of the time). I’ve had this combination of dark chocolate with raspberry from the competing ice creameries in the area and I have to say that this one at Sundaes is by far the best one out there!

Really upset to get home last night with a take-out cup of chocolate-peanut butter to find it inedible because chocolate cake crumbles had been added to it, with no disclosure that it contained them(which are made with flour). I have celiac disease and if it’s not chocolate-peanut butter but rather chocolate-peanut butter-cake sprinkles, just say so. Lost $(as we didn’t feel like driving back) and lost the opportunity to eat what is traditionally Sundae’s great ice cream. Yes, I am sensitive to this type of thing, as I have to live with a disease where I have to watch everything I eat. Who would even ask if something like this is added to choc peanut butter? Bummed. Please make sure scoopers or your freezer case label disclose this for future guests. Thanks. Great ice cream. This is just not good practice. If I was rating for ice cream and typical service, I would give Sundae’s 4 stars. This is a hiccup that needs to be addressed.

We were cruising along to a friends house who lived in the area when we remembered we were on the hook for dessert. Have no fear, Unilocal app to the rescue. We really didn’t want supermarket ice cream and weren’t feeling baked goods. So we came across this place. Your typical jersey shore ice cream place minus the long lines since it wasn’t in season. They had several ridiculous flavors and making a decision on which ones was near impossible(chocolate overload, dark side of the moon, fluffernutter and sticky fingers to name a few). They also had pre-made ice cream sandwiches, cakes and logs. This is not your grandparents ice cream shop. The staff was very friendly and having some samples to try is always a good thing. Their prices are relatively normal. The ice cream is super creamy and sweet… exactly like I love it! You will get zero complaints from me. ENJOY!

I searched for Sundaes and was super sad to see that it only had received one star. That said, I have rated places one star based on bad service, and it looks like bad service is what that reviewer received, so I understand. I happened to have an excellent experience there when I went last Wednesday. I would say this was probably the best ice cream I have ever eaten. My server was very patient(I have a hard time choosing) and let me have several samples. The ice cream was not cheap($ 11 for a medium cup and a humongous dipped waffle cone), but the portions were HUGE and the quality of the homemade product made it totally worth it. They also have rather unique flavors, which is worth a lot to me, because I always like to try something off the beaten path(scoop?). I got one of the peanut butter varieties. It was vanilla ice cream with PB and fudge swirls, and chocolate cake crunchies. Kinda like Friendly’s Hunka Bunka PB Fudge, but so much fresher and creamier and better(and no ice chunks. Yay!). I also got Devil Dog, which was outstanding and different. The base was what they called light chocolate(imagine chocolatey ness of a milkshake) — loved it, because I am not a fan of rich chocolate ice cream — with chocolate cake and a creamy, whipped topping folded in. It was really different and superb. My bf also got Devil Dog and Dark Side of the Moon, I believe it was called. He does like really rich, dark chocolate, and this flavor was right up his alley. *For anyone with lactose issues — this ice cream must have a high cream content(as opposed to milk) because soft serve and a lot of commercial hard ice cream really bothers my stomach, but this had pretty much no effect at all. I have had Hoffman’s and liked it, but this really stood out to me, and I will make sure to visit any time I am down the shore within a 20 minute drive.

Sundaes is an institution at the shore. The Point Pleasant location was the first Tom’s River the second and this one the third. It is family owned and run. Here are some of the awards they have recieved. * 9 Time Winner at the Annual New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival in Toms River, NJ * Voted Reader’s Choice Award Winner for Best Ice Cream Shop in Ocean County in the Asbury Park Press * Voted Reader’s Choice Award Winner for Best Ice Cream Shop in Ocean County in the Observer. * There are many other awards for their special flavors from the Jersey state ice cream festival. * More awards from the Huddy Park ice cream festivalhttp://www.downtowntomsriver.com/ * Asbury Park pres best of ice cream In addition there is a helpful link at their web site with many ice cream related links. I took the which flavor are you test on one of the links and it came up French vanilla twice even though I changed the answers. hmmmmm? Anyway fun links! Having said all of that, we went to the Manasquan, NJ location. I remember years ago going here and this was a Cones ice cream and at that time Cones was very popular all over the shore. Since this is family owned and operated I assume the person who was behind the counter was a family member or at least approved by them and she did act like a boss or better said she was bossy. The Manasquan location is on the edge of Sea Girt. Sea Girt is a closed community to an extent. Maybe this counter person is not used to New Yorkers or Chinese people(my husband is Chinese) I don’t know what her problem was but she had the nerve to say to us «are you going to buy something or just look?» If you look at my ice cream list you see that I don’t just look. She did not give me time to look at the flavors and refused to answer my questions about the flavors. I was asking the teenage girl behind the counter questions and the older lady kind of took over. I was asking questions about the flavors because on their site it said it had a Cannoli cream flavor but the girl said they were out. The girl was nice. But this older lady was rude and wanted to hurry us out. She rushed me so I did not get a chance to look at all of the flavors so I just ordered the first thing I saw. I should not have ordered anything. My husband changed his mind due to the rudeness of the older counter lady. He had asked the girl if they had banana and she said yes. He was getting ready to order it when the older woman pushed her aside. I will not be returning. We were shocked as most ice cream shops on the Jersey shore are super friendly and wholesome. I did not enjoy my ice cream because I was too upset. I could have been a life long customer as I am with other ice cream shops on the shore but I can’t recommend this one especially if you are not a townie. Really I suggest Strollo’s which is consistantly fantastic and with friendly service in near by Belmar!
