Finally! They renovated this dilapidated Roy Rogers. It has been years since they have done some major renovations. Eating inside is like stepping back in the 80’s to 90’s, the place smells like fried oil and they don’t accept credit/debit cards. But that does not matter they still have the best fried chicken and create your own toppings for the burgers. Without the fried chicken and the burgers this place closed years ago. It just shows the resiliency, hopefully they will open in Reston/Herndon area as well as Fairfax in the future.

I ordered lunch there today, a 2 piece and sides, and the chicken was pretty ok, but once I opened the baked beans I ordered, I found a hair stuck to the inside wall of the container swimming in the bean juice. That is such a good way to turn me off to food. Called the manager, as I had ordered through the drive through, and He stated he would replace the meal and toss the baked beans. Its just I CANTSTAND finding hair in my food. It was nice of him to offer to replace the meal. But I don’t know if I can ever eat there after this.

Had a ultra delicious and nutritious roast beef sandwich with a medium Dr. Pepper drink. For dessert, I had a super small strawberry shortcake. The dining room is clean and well organized but most of the seating backs needs to be reupholstered By The Way. :)

Love their biscuits and gravy. This is a great place to people-watch. Lots of older folks shootin’ the breeze in the morning on weekends. The parking lot is 50% Crown Victorias, if that tells you anything. It’s a nice change of pace — somehow life seems to slow down. Basically you disappear from Northern Virginia for a while.

The pits. Over-processed food, served slightly warm, tough to chew. Yuck. I only came here because I thought it was a Hardees

That moment when you go through your list of awaiting next reviews and find a place that you could have sworn on a stack of holy tomes that you had already reviewed … So Roy Rogers … it’s definitely above McDonald’s, Wendy’s, and Burger King in my hierarchy of fast food burger/breakfast chains. But I’d have to give them 3.5 stars … I can’t quite put them at the 4-star level of my guilty pleasure Checkers or Hardee’s. Actually, this Roy Rogers has quite a bit of carry over from the«old Hardee’s», when Hardee’s bought Roy Rogers.(When Carl Jr’s bought Hardee’s, Hardee’s basically became Carl’s East, and the Roy Rogers brand nearly died off. Incidentally, this location used to be a Hardee’s.) The sourdough breakfast sandwiches are much like the«Frisco» sandwiches from the Hardee’s days, and they’re my go to for breakfast. But only when I’m taking breakfast home and eating it … I put a lot of mayo, salt, and pepper on the sausage, egg, and cheese sourdough sandwich and it reminds me of my Saturday breakfasts as a kid. The fried chicken is a carry-over from the Hardee’s days as well, but the burgers are pure old school Roy Rogers, complete with the legendary«Fixin’s Bar» The burgers are good, but when you order them to go, you get a plain burger with no toppings. And, oddly, the cheese melted on the bottom side of the bun. They have«fixin’s cups» for the to-go burgers, but if you don’t ask for them they almost never give them to you, which is plain wrong. And as others have noted, service here in general is uneven. But on the plus side, it’s nice to be able to get a side of mashed potatoes with your burger. And this location does have hand-dipped Hershey’s Ice Cream on site, and will make REAL milkshakes. It’s definitely a nice option for fast food outside of the usual suspects.

I no longer live in VA so I don’t get Roy Rogers often so I had to grab a bacon cheeseburger. Is it the best? No. Is it going to fill your belly? Yes.

I love the roast beef there. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because the inside is old looking. The food is great! Thank you for keeping Roy Rogers alive!

I love Roy Rogers… the gold rush chicken sandwich is my absolute favorite«fast food» item ever! Its salty sweet yummy goodness wrapped up in a little gift box to go! I’m a fan of the fries here too! My only issue with this place is that my last infrequent visit took about 16 minutes to complete. Sitting in the drive thru for that long is a little bit insane. I’ll be back… because I freaking love that sandwich!!!

These are the best roast beef sandwiches i’ve ever had. I’d rate 5 stars on that alone. But there’s a ton of other good items on the menu too. The Gold Rush sandwich is delicious and unique.(chicken, honey, bacon and cheese) and the fried chicken is really good too just mind the grease. You will need napkins. Lots. Great dessert. Real ice cream shakes. A decent variety of flavors. You can also get just ice cream. Super friendly employees. My only issue: i miss your iced raisin biscuts at breakfast time. Please bring them back!!!

Roy’s was the place that invented the fixin’s bar where they lay out various toppings and you can select whatever toppings and how much to put on your burger. That is a great feature if you’re particular about what want on your burger and how much. Speaking as someone who likes to hear the crunch of fresh sliced onions while biting into a burger, I can’t stress enough how much I appreciate the fixin’s bar. The fries are good too. They’re old style unapologetically cooked in grease with just the right amount of salt added. You don’t go to fast food for health food. But we rarely order from the lunch/dinner menu. The breakfast menu has the Sourdough Ham Egg & Cheese sandwich, and this is by far the best breakfast sandwich available better than the egg mcmuffin, better than anything at Panera’s or IHOP or Denny’s or Shoneys or Bob Frickin’ Evans. The Sourdough Ham Egg & Cheese is exactly what the name implies. They use two types of cheese, and they use just the right amount so some of it melts onto the inside of the wrapper so you can lick it off. They also use unique potatoes with breakfast. They’re not hash browns; they’re not french fries; they’re kind of like small steak fries with just the right amount of salt added. They’re not so thin that they’re crispy. They’re not so thick that they’re mushy. They’re just right. Another thing that Roy’s has is ice cream cones. I know what you’re thinking: «Big Deal». Right? The chocolate is made with Hershey’s chocolate, and it has a very strong chocolately taste but not too strong: just right. It’s ten times better than anything you can get at Nathan’s or Kline’s. One thing I like about Roy’s in the morning is that a group of old-timers congregate there every morning. If you drive by you can see them through the window just sitting there drinking coffee and hanging out. It adds a little folksy flavor to the place. They’re nice fellows too.

Ordered the gold rush chicken sandwich combo. Very tasty. The bacon was nice and crispy unlike most places where the bacon is greasy and raw. The cheese was also nice and melted. Fries were ok but nothing special. Cashier was friendly, accurate, and fast.

They have the best roast beef sandwich around. It tops Arby’s any day. This is one place that I can say has NEVER gotten my order wrong! The employees are always friendly and its been even easier to go to since they started taking credit cards.

The Double-R-Bar Burger is one of my all time fast food favorites! I finally had the chance to stop in for one at the Roy’s in Manassas Park today. Ordered the combo meal — with a small order of fries and a lemonade. Food came up quickly. I like to add the horseradish sauce to the inside of the top bun, then lettuce, sliced onions, and then mustard on the ham in the burger. Scrumptious! Fries were good, hot and crisp. Service was good, pretty busy at lunch time and they were keeping the lines moving.
