So good to find a running store in St. Louis. I recently moved to the area and my current kicks had seen their last mile… I scoped out Big River Running Company on my trusty Unilocal app to see what this place really had to offer. As always, my Unilocalers delivered again. Walked in on a Sunday with my run down Nike’s in hand and was immediately greeted by a salesperson. All I had to do was hold up my current Nike’s from across the room and ask for the newest model of what I had in my hand. She didn’t miss a beat and returned with the perfect newest model. It took me years to find a good running shoe and to know now that I can walk in and be in and out in a matter of minutes with another perfect shoe is great. They didn’t try to up-sell or make me try on another pair and only talked about the differences in the newer model of the one I was interested in. There’s some sort of rewards program that is attached to your email(I really wasn’t listening, but that’s my fault)

This place is wonderful! With a recent PF diagnosis, I needed new shoes and a knowledgeable person to help me pick. I had a great experience with the first woman(name?) who helped me pick out some shoes and when I came back about a minor issues about the shoes, I talked with Kaitlyn who was super understanding and kind and had tons of suggestions and knowledge about shoes and running. she took great care of me and was super pleasant while doing so! will be back!

First lets just say I’m not a runner! I’m a Jazzerciser, hoping to complete a 5k before I’m 65, which is in the very near future! I felt a little stupid going into a ‘running’ store, but I was by no means treated like I was stupid! Amy asked what I was looking for, observed me walking, doing a couple of knee bends/squats. She carefully measured my feet and made suggestions on the type a shoe that would fit my feet and my needs! I picked out a few styles, she brought out my selections and a few of her own. After I put the first pair on, she told me to go outside and walk up and down the sidewalk. I was sold on the first pair! She gave me information for a training session for a Couch to 5k… made me feel pretty good! Amy was very helpful, knowledgable and patient! Definitely check out Big River Running and if you have Amy help you, it will be a bonus! Pricey, but I’m worth it! And more reasonable than Amazon… go figure!

I came here seeking advice for reducing my underpronation without going into a heavy rigid motion control shoe. I left with a brand-new pair of Brooks Adrenaline that I can’t wait to try out! The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful and the selection of accessories was excellent. I would definitely recommend this store for inexperienced as well as seasoned runners.

Always helpful. Always knowledgeable. Always setting up some great group runs and planning races that are friendly neighborhood events. I usually buy my shoes here even though I find the clothing a little too expensive for my taste. I still enjoy looking and checking out the clearance racks.

Stopped at Big River in order to meet a last minute running need. I was impressed with the kindness of their staff and their knowledgeable suggestions for dealing with my nagging IT Band issue… I would absolutely suggest checking Big River out for all of your running needs.

I’m just now trying to get into running and am a super novice. Not just someone that runs occasionally and just decided to take it seriously. No, up until this past winter, I had never straight up ran an entire mile without stopping to walk. Chalk it up to childhood asthma or just plain olé laziness, it’s the truth. You can imagine my worries heading into a running store intending to purchase my first pair of running shoes. No worry was necessary. I arrived at Big River after work on a Friday and was the only customer. I was greeted quickly by a woman(Julie maybe??? My memory could be completely failing me right now.) and asked if I could be helped. I explained to her that I was new to running and was told by my personal trainer that I needed to get a pair of shoes if I were going to take my new goal of running a 5k seriously. She was very helpful, analyzed my walk, and started breaking out shoes for me to try. I tried about 8 different pairs on ranging from $ 60 – 150 with which I was comfortable. She never tried to sell me on a more expensive pair or any pair at all really. I’d try a pair and tell her what I did and didn’t like about them, and she’d remind me that the best pair was probably the ones I noticed the least about. I ended up with a pair of Brook’s that gave me some nice cushion and great arch support, and so far they’ve been great. She said if I used them inside on a treadmill and didn’t like them, I could return them within 30 days. I thought that was pretty cool and put this newbie at ease. I also picked up a pair of toe socks(suggested to me for the blister I sometimes get between my big and second toe), and I’m looking forward to giving them a whirl. If this running thing continues to work out, I’ll be sure to return!

Bought my first pair of running shoes at Big River Running in West County today! I didn’t know what I was shopping for, which is why I went to a running store. After doing some online research, I decided to give Big River a try. Located in a strip mall near Manchester and 141, this is a small store front focused solely on running shoes and gear. The store was incredibly busy with runners picking up t-shirts and numbers for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day run. However, Ben was very helpful in selecting the best pair of shoes for me! I went in just looking for some advice and suggestions about which shoes I should consider getting. I hadn’t planned on buying, but I ended up walking out with a pair that feel great! I guess I don’t have any more excuses for not running on a regular basis now ;)

I was extremely pleased with my experience at Big River Running Company. They really are great at giving you personalized attention and really know what they are talking about. They weren’t really pushy into making me buy anything(though I did buy a pair of shoes). They seemed really focused on finding the best possible shoes for my feet. Like the previous reviewer said, if you are into running you probably already know about this place. If you’re not, but want to start, go check them out. You won’t regret it. Read on for a more detailed synopsis of my experience. When I walked into Big River, I was immediately greeted and I told them I was looking to buy my first pair of running shoes. They took the time to look over my old tennis shoes, evaluate the way I walked and jogged and my feet in general. The salesman pulled a few pairs of shoes and had me try them on and jog for just a little bit outside. Based on my feedback of the shoes, he’d go grab other pairs. He definitely knew what he was doing because it felt like a progression of shoes that felt more and more comfortable on my feet. After about 5 or 6 pairs, I finally picked out a pair that seemed perfect. Although the shoes weren’t cheap,(I didn’t expect them to be) the service I received was amazing. Once I got home, I checked how much the shoes were online, and I was quite surprised that the price I paid at Big River was competitive to anyplace that had the same shoes online.

If you are a runner, than you probably already know about this place. If your not a runner, but looking to start running or walking. this is a great place to start. The two guys that own this store are young, but they know thier stuff-I believe they both are fomer pro. runners. They will not just try to sell you a shoe to make a sale. I came here prior to training for my first half marathon. I needed a new pair of shoes. One of the owners was working and helped me out. I tried on about 6 pairs and he encouraged me to go outside and run and walk around in each pair for a few minutes to see which pair I wanted. He actually talked me out of buying the shoe that looked cooler-which I really wanted. I actually ended up with the cheapest pair out of the bunch(who would have though?) He also told me that if i was not happy with them after a few runs to come back in. However, i did not have to and I still love those shoes. This place is not only a running store, but more of a running resource, the website offers all kinds of local running event information. They also have all kinds of running accesories in the store… look out for thes sales. I have purchased some great gear on clearence. Also, if Manchester is to far for all the city dwellers… they just opened a South City location. I have not been yet, but I hope to visit this store soon.
