If I’m going for pizza from a chain and not a local place, I usually order from Domino’s – so I’ll be doing a lot of comparing between my usual experience with them. But I got a Pizza Hut coupon in the mail for a large 2-topping pizza for $ 8(carry-out only) and I was feeling lazy, so I went for an impulse pie. I called ahead, and they told me it would be 15 minutes, which I thought was really impressive. I noticed their toppings list is pretty limited compared to Domino’s, who offers different types of cheese while Pizza Hut only has the default cheese that comes on top of the pie. I settled on my favorite – a double topping of mushrooms. I arrived right on the 15 minute mark. There was one guy waiting to pick up his pizza, and the guy working behind the counter was talking on the phone. He didn’t even look at me when I came in, just kept talking on the phone, and at one point disappeared in the back. I tried to make eye contact with employees who were working in the back, but they would look at me and then look away and return to whatever they were doing. When the counter guy came back, he was holding a pizza box and then called out the order and the name. The guy who had been waiting walked up to take it. Again, the person behind the counter didn’t even acknowledge me as he rang up the other customer. When the guy was done, it was only then that he turned to me and asked whether I was ordering or picking up. I gave him my name, and he found the receipt and rang me up. Once that was done, he automatically started helping the next person in line without getting my pizza or telling me where it was. I figured someone else was getting it, so I kept waiting… and waiting… At this point it was over the 25 min mark, and I was surprised they weren’t better at communicating the delay. Just when I was about to ask what was happening with my pizza, they brought it to the front. In terms of the pizza itself, I still prefer Domino’s to Pizza Hut. Their new hand-tossed pizza is supposed to have a «lighter, airier crust with a delicious buttery garlic flavor»(or so it says on the box). Instead of light and airy, I get the sense that the outer crust has almost been deep-fried, and I get a lot of grease and not very much garlic flavor. Compared to Domino’s, they also skimped on the toppings. I ordered two toppings’ worth of mushrooms, and they only had enough for if I had ordered one topping’s worth. So I wouldn’t really recommend Pizza Hut pizza, but I would especially not recommend this particular place. It’s not like the employees are actively trying to be impolite, but they seem very apathetic about their jobs to the point of borderline rudeness. I’m sticking with Domino’s for better pizza and a more pleasant experience.
