This place is amazing! Only been there twice — amazing both times. Service and food are fantastic. Try the eggplant sandwich — I always take half of it home!

OMG! This is the kind of pizza that you will sacrifice the roof of your mouth for because it is to good to wait. like the old Shakey’s back in the day, where everything is made fresh and to order. The mozzarella pulls away in wonderful hot melty strands and it really is so good. The folks there treat you like family and you really do feel like you are home. When you walk in the door, you can smell the dough and you instantly know coming here was a great idea. While waiting for our pizza, Morat, who is the chef, will toss pepperonies at our eight year old and say funny things to try to make him laugh, which my son loves, and once he even came over and gave my son two quarters to put in the gum ball machine(which actually has little toys instead of gum balls). My son was thrilled. Before we were finished our drinks, refills were there waiting to take their place. Another person below was upset about the joking and other behaviors, but if you’ve been here before, you know, this is part of the charm of the place. She mentioned that there were two tables together, because of a large group that wasn’t really large, but let me tell you what really happened. If the restaurant is not rocking with people, the waiter or waitress will actually pull another table over to put your order on it, so as not to overcrowd your table,. how awesome is that!!! My husband swears by the sandwiches and it’s the only restaurant pizza my son will eat. Give it a try with confidence, you will love every minute.

The pizza is pretty good, but I’ve had better. When I get off work & not feeling like cooking, Mama D’s is our delivery pizza place. Wasn’t impressed with the apple dessert pizza… it tastes like canned apple pie filling on top of pizza crust, there were no «cake crumbles» on top as described on the menu. Very bland & disappointing. Won’t be ordering that again.

Walk in, and after a few minutes of trying to get the attention of an employee, and you are told to seat yourself. After looking around, I picked what I felt like was the cleanest booth not right in front of the restroom, which meant only one booth. The seating area is fairly small, and some people in a booth had also pulled over a table for more seating for their… um…large(!!!) group. The booth in front of the television had two **gentlemen** in it that I were supporting some pretty awesome mullets, salt and pepper hair, I am not sure there was a mouthful of teeth between the two of them, one in control of the remote and no one seemed to notice that he just kept going through the television channels. A strung-out young lady came and asked me if she could go ahead and place her order with me, and seemed to buy my gestures that I was deaf, and spoke to the gentlemen in front of the television. The floor was littered with dirt, sausage, pepperoni, vegetables. The walls could have really used a good scrubbing. When the waitress came to me, I ordered a small chicken alfredo pizza. About 30 minutes later, I got the pizza, and picked the chicken off as it was not warm, and I was afraid. I barely ate, afraid of the taste, paid and left. While preparing to leave, I was offered a young teenage boy to take home if I wanted. I promptly thanked the other customer and left, saying the other boy at home would be jealous. They laughed. When I pulled up and when I left, there were two girls and one guy, out back smoking cigarettes. In a small town like Abita Springs, I am not sure if they were just local kids hanging out or employees of the restaurant. The restaurant could have gone through an actual busy lunch and they might not have been able to give the floor the sweeping that it needed, I’m not sure. *****Please note that I am not deaf, nor am I the skinniest, best looking person in the world. It was just an odd variety of customers, in my opinion.*****

The best oven baked sandwiches I have ever had in my life. The bread was homemade with a ton of meat and cheese on it. I got the chicken parm and I swear I died and went to heaven on that first bite. Definitely will be going back soon and the prices are more than reasonable.

There’s really a lot of good pizza places around, but Mama D’s stands out. Friendly atmosphere, great pizza, dollar beer night, etc. But, do yourself a favor and order one of their sandwiches made in the pizza oven.

Possibly the best garlic bread with cheese I’ve ever had. I’ve tried several different sandwiches here over time and they were all scrumptious. We have the pizza delivered to our house at least once or twice a month and it hits the spot(I’m from the NYC area, originally, so I’m spoiled where pizza’s concerned.) Certainly far better than any of the chains! Quite honestly some of the best food you can get in Abita Springs, at tremendously reasonable prices!

As a Chicago native, this pizza joint was great! Keep up the hard work, for your pizza is super tasty! However, the customer service was a bit deceiving. Our waitress came to our table twice, vi finished my first beverage never got asked if I wanted another one.

Terrible pizza. The pepperoni pizza was sitting in a pool of grease, and it was too salty. The crust was too thick and soggy, and the sauce was too sweet. I thought it was not fit to eat. I like pizza with a home made thin crust, and I think the crust is the most important part of a good pizza. I think they use cheap pepperoni which oozed grease– I don’t plan to order this again.

Pizza was great the wait was a little longer then normal but worth waiting for. The two large special worked for me. Location was easy to find parking was a little tight. Ordered it to go and it took about 45 minutes.

Best pizza on the Northshore! And it is locally owned and operated. Murat,(forgive the spelling of his name) the chef, is funny, friendly, and is good with the kids. My favorite is the artichoke pizza with anchovies, and their hot sandwiches, especially the meatball are great! It is a dive, but aren’t most of the best eateries a dive? Bottled beer only, $ 2.00 each and no wine but who cares, it is that good!

Great pizza. Plan in trying another dish in the future, but their combo with pesto sauce is so good!

Pizza too oily! Ordered the kens pasta special and was highly disappointed. No flavor as if they just boiled pasta and threw the vegetables on with no salt, pepper, or any kind of seasoning or sauce. My 10 year old could do better. Never will waste my money on their food again.

As a US Soldier I have been a partaker of unique and fabulous delicacies at some of the most exotic places on earth: Iraqi Goat Meat on top of a parking garage in Saudi Arabia(Desert Storm), MREs at a place called Jabal Hamrin Ridge in Iraq(Iraqi Freedom 1), Mystery Meat(God only knows what that was) in Bagram, Afghanistan(Enduring Freedom), and the long list goes on. I have ALSO been lucky enough to have been stationed in Europe(Germany) twice. I was also stationed in Alaska and have visited Hawaii several times. I am ALSO a native of New Orleans(best food in the world). The moral of the story is this: I have eaten good food and BAD food all over the world. I know good food. ANYTHINKINGPERSON from New Orleans knows good food. I am 48 years old and Mama D’s Pizza is hands down THEBESTPIZZA I have eaten — ever — period. It is better than any pizza I’ve had in New York City, Europe, Hawaii or anywhere else on planet earth. A good friend of mine took us there this past Saturday Night. It is a bit of a hole in the wall joint, but the people are nice and the food is unparallelled. ALL the ingredients are FRESH. The manager is fun loving; the staff is attentive and again, the food is absolutely phenomenal. When I asked for a Meat Lover’s pizza I did not expect salami on my pizza. I am not at all a fan of salami. BUTTHISSALAMI was GREAT. EVERYTHINGWASGREAT, and BESTOFALL, the manager/chef will let you direct him as to how much cheese, sauce, etc. you want on your pizza. You want the best pizza in the world? It is right here on the North Shore, in Abita Springs at Mama D’s.

Oh Mama! How did I only recently learn of your existence? I have truly been missing out. This is a very small hole in the wall restaurant. I think they have 8 or so booths, the table cloths are old and very worn out, the outside is not attractive and you may not expect much from this place, but don’t judge until you try it. The pizza here is Fantastic! They offer a variety of gourmet pizzas including garlic chicken, Abita shrimp pizza, eggplant, Texas grand BBQ chicken and many more. You can also of course build your own which is what I did. They also have a wide variety of sandwiches which you can have turned into a calzone! Appetizers, salads, homemade pasta… they have it all. In my quest to find the best pizza in the area, Mama’s is close to the top and I’ll be a regular. Just thinking about it is starting to make my mouth water. Dinner tonight?

Oh my goodness, I have lost my desire to eat any other pizza but here. What am I to do? It’s a good thing I live close… haha. There’s no reason to eat anyone else’s pizza. This is the best. Do not waste your time going to any of those franchise pizza joints. Not sure, but call if you want delivery. The pizzas are the best. Everything here is overall good. Give them a try.

Does the D stand for delicious? Maybe delightful? Dieeeevine? OK, so despite this looking like a corner slice joint, it’s not. You buy the pizza by the whole, small or large. There’s a dude who’s up there when you walk making each pie with lot’s o’ love(maybe he’s Papa D?) A quick view of the menu and we decided on a spinach pie, to which Papa D asked, «You want gourmet?» As in, a white pizza with spinach, feta. I kind of make it my «thing» to get the standard pie when I’m checking out a pizza place for the first time, so my friend and I just got a regular pie with spinach on top. And I’m glad I did! The thing I *love* about this pizza besides the sauce being just right and plentiful and the crust(not thick nor thin) being tasty is that they brown the cheese on top! And the crust is brown, too. It may seem like a little thing, but most pizza shops don’t do it. And yes, it causes a flavor sensation. In fact, I’m getting hungry just thinking about it and could even see myself driving over the damn Causeway to get my hands on another one of these pies again. So you will believe me when I give the simple praise: «This is some damn good pizza.» And oh, the spinach is fresh baby spinach. This gives me great hope for the other ingredients(as in, no canned crap). I’ll tell you what, on a good day, I could see myself yearning to eat the whole dang small pie(but of course I’d have to be crazy hungry and overall foolish). Really, for lunch you’ll want to share the small with a friend.
